I've found I personally learn best in a classroom setting and when I'm reverse-engineering/studying existing material. I had the survival kit for a while but didn't even touch it until I took my first animation class, because I didn't know where to start... Now that I have a little experience under my belt, it's a great resource for I want to understand basic principles, theories and methods. Starting from scratch with it is hard though and I don't recommend it haha

Videos in this length and is well-structured really brings out the many points and thoughts young aspiring animators have running in their minds currently. Serving as a reminder that approaching this career path (or small time gig why not) has its ups and downs and there is no perfect way to go about it. I'm glad I invested myself into learning and understanding these well-thought-out and consistent lessons about the many ways you can learn animation. Initially I saw myself having to go through the traditional post high school pathway, but in fact many people follow different options in their own respective environments to get to the level where they want to be which broadened my perspective on the many options. As long as there people who are driven by the wonders of animation and in other creative, visual artistic fields. Then we would see more awesome works of art to come, the result from watching others grow and develop as artists.
This does sound like an earful if said out loud, but I'm just here to appreciate, careful, naturally thorough, videos and its lessons from animators of the animation industry.

I never understood one thing: why analysis of references is so rarely mentioned in animation learning. While how to draw books are built on observing the reality, animation ones mostly feature drawn cartoons. And even the simplest examples such as bouncing ball and pendulum are most oftenly created by the animator and not shown using an actual video recording.

I originally wanted to get a degree in character animation, but because I didn’t have the exceptional artistic skills and there’s a very limited class capacity for animation courses, I decided to go for a Studio Art major with a focus in illustration instead. I thought I was falling behind in my career in hopes to because a 2D animator. But now I realize it really was for the best because I more than likely would’ve been very miserable and overwhelmed, paying for the tuition, not knowing the fundamentals, working with tight deadlines, and more than likely not learning what I want to do. In my last few years in various art classes, I really learned a lot not just in my artistic techniques but also who I want to be as an artist. I learned multiple different mediums and saw what works for me and what doesn’t, I learned that I don’t have to have a certain degree to get to where I want, I can learn animation on my own time, doing my own research and avoiding all the pressure I would have in a classroom.

Give it to me straight doc... As a 30 year old with little to no experience with creating art in a professional manner, you think it's possible to make it in ze business it if I put the work in? I mean, I've taken up art and animation during the pandemic and I've made some heavy progress (at least in the art part) and I feel really passionate about it. I also understand that it's a really competitive field and there's a metric crap ton of stuff for me to still learn and refine till I would even consider myself a competent artist. I have no connections, no friends that are into the same thing. Kinda feel like it's almost futile to even try.
Do you think there's a chance? ... I mean I'd still do it anyway but getting paid for it wouldn't go amiss :P
