Deejay is probably the only character ive ever truly loved everything about in a fighting game, i dont care if hes bottom of the roster or top, him and akuma are my mains till sf7 boy
I completely agree with you I've never played a charge character as a main besides Remy but as soon as I saw Dee Jay in sf6 I knew that's my guy lol
I think Dee jay, while definetly no longer a top tier, should still function. He will just kill you in 10 combos instead of 3 now.
The damage numbers are honestly the biggest nerfs...at worse he'll be mid/high-mid tier.

20% damage scaling for combos after a heavy button is pretty brutal. Ouch.
The utility of that heavy punch is bonkers though. Like way outta pocket
Only for initiating a combo with it, you can still use it in combos no penalty. It was a great whiff punish button, on a heavy, but yeah this was a big pile of nerfs for a cool character.
Honestly as a Deejay main I think the damage nerf is harsh, but fine I get it he hit pretty hard. However the knockback nerfs on hit 1 on back heavy kick I think is to much. He deserved nerfs but all this is over kill. Especially when Ken, Luke, Juri and Marisa got away scott free. That being said that knee shot nerf was definitely deserved. That move was pretty bullshit

If you still haven't learned how to deal with ken by now... I have bad news for you. With that said I didn't like deejay nerds either, I not even play him but never felt he was exactly unfair or anything
You’re a little off with the stand HP change. Initial scaling means that it only applies if you start a combo with it, so using stand HP multiple times in a combo doesn’t cause the scaling to stack. That being said, EX Sway -> Heavy followup has extra combo scaling, and THAT stacks.
He’s still a character that can overwhelm you with stuff like knee, OD fireball, and numerous feints, but he has to be right more often now. Fair trade.
knee being punish counterable on active frames is kind of rough thoough. might deter deejays from even trying to use it outside of safe jump set ups. I need to test it more for sure
I still think dee jay can work for sure, and im still gonna play him. Most of his neutral gameplay remains intact, and so does his sways, fakes and mixups, its just that he will now kill you in 10 combos instead of 3.

Crazy, right? To actually act like a developer instead of an employee of crybabies who don't know how to play your game? C'mon man, Dee Jay nerfs were not cool, I agree with you. But the solution is to assassinate everyone else? They already dealt with Luke op crouching medium, and as a ken player the change in his target combo made him take a lot more risk. But if anything I hope deejay gets buffed back, not the other way around.

@5:42 You can still get the heavy sobat's at the end you just have to do the whole facebreakr (let both kicks hit) and you can still kind of do the same combo for corner carry.

I hate it when any game focuses extra heavy on one particular character for an unexplained reason but leaves similarly characters either alone or buff them for some obscene reason.

5:45 great video! But am I missing something here? You can't connect with a single hit anymore, but you can still do a heavy sobat after the double hit for an extra 100 damage than doing the medium sobat. The timing is super tight though.

Why they get rid of combo routes tho? Like sure nerf his damage and some of the braindead stuff but taking away combo routes just makes him less fun to play
Of all the nerfs, that's the one I totally disagree with. Keep the route and let people deal with the damage reduction.

@Kibster1 that makes sense, but Sobat does the same thing. Maybe Sobat is for carry and the up kick is for damage? Don't know, I'm not an in-depth Dee Jay player.

The numbers feel weird here. They buffed Ken but fried Deejay? Was Deejay winning so much more than Ken? I mean most of these nerfs are warranted, and I can say that as somebody who mindlessly cruised into the master ranks abusing hop knee and his absurd damage, but... if we're gonna hit top tiers this hard, why not hit all of the top tiers this hard?
I would say that deejay is a much more divisive and polarising character. Ken is more consistent but deejay is just so explosive in an unfair sort of way
Deejay is season 1 luke in terms of damage. He has insane normals so he can just punish from everywhere for damage. Everything people complained about that got luke nerfed every patch and more. Ken is pretty fair and I'm saying that as a luke main

Deejay didn’t have better dmg then Marissa or Ryu pple couldn’t stomach him having 3rd place? ok sure but taking his combo routes and dp punishes is and give him yolo level one 😑 and no 1 new meter heavy route and Ken Luke and juri get to run free crazy dude
He was having the best damage output consistently. Not to mention, the best Drive Rush of the game that it is almost ridiculous...

Isn't the st.HP damage scaling nerf only applied once and only if you start the combo with it? (initial scaling)
That's right, you can see off the OD Slasher combo, he did OD Slasher (-20%) and then Drive Rush (-15% of what's left) and then the st.HP did 68% damage which lines up, and then next hit 59% damage which is regular scaling.
People say fg devs hate grapplers but now they hate music/dancing characters more. Dee Jay getting executed right after Azucena
if you do 2nd hit of back HK you can still combo to heavy sobat the corner carry is still there just scaled more and you can still confirm SA3/CA off the heavy sobat

Damn it was so nice playing deejay with the extra damage. Made him like the only other really high damage character outside of Marisa if you exclude grapplers just hitting you with one move throws or supers. He still didn’t do as much damage as Marisa, but he did premium damage compared to the shotos and guile.

A lot misinformation in this video:
They nerf him but your combo demonstration missed on 2 mid screen combos. The first is new and the second you perform it in the video unoptimized:
1) Ex HK jus cool - DR b.HK(2hits) - HK Jus cool - HK Sobat kick (This didn't work before with full b.HK)
2) Ex HK jus cool - DR b.HK(2hits) - M.machine gun upper - HK jackknife kick (you missed the M. machine gun upper)
Ex sway > DR B.HK (1st hit) > sway HK > HK sobat most definitely worked before and it was a bread and butter combo for Deejay. I used to play Deejay as a main for like 4 months and it most certainly worked before and now it doesn't.

So Luke, who was Top 1 character in the game got a slap on the wrist, but Dee Jay who was barely making it in the top 5 sometimes, got big nerfs? Seems legit

You shouldn't be salty, Luke at least got some nerfs whereas the downplayers for Ken are celebrating for all his bs buffs, like wtf they give him more run options with all his broken moves.

I'm pretty sure the first paragraph about 4HK and supers is how much meter it builds on hit vs block, not how much damage it does when canceling to a super. Dee Jay never did 4HK xx super anyway, lvl1 was to end juggles or punish something, lvl2 was out of 2MP or OD machine gun upper, and lvl3 was out of sobat or H machine gun upper.
I will no longer feel bad once people start complaining about shotos in this game.

Glad they did not come for guile but i was planning to pick deejay since he is a charge character but the plan has changed for season 2.
Capcom messed up with these nerfs. I understand the damage, cool, but to nerf his combo routes and Jackknife Maximum was overboard, it's not like Dee Jay players were winning tournaments. In my opinion, I think that for a character to truly be broken, he needs to dominate tournaments, and I haven't seen one tournament that Dee Jay won. Ultimately, being that he's the only top tier black character makes me wonder why they chose to nerf him the most.

I agree with the Dee jay nerfs. He had some of the best buttons and could punish hard. It was everything people complained about luke . So good players could 2 touch with meter. Slugging it out with him in neutral seemed unfair.
He didn't have the best buttons. They weren't cancellable so no cr.mk and the only decent poke he had is medium sobat, which doesn't convert. Everything else is punishable with DI. He has like 2 hit confirms and they have to be set up first.
this is how it should be. he is always safe and a charge character. he shouldnt be doing op damage with crazy corner carry and a non reactable/punishable sweep.
now people has to think when playing deejay, even though they can still spam and be safe all day.

L take, they should have nerfed his damage or his corner carry, not both. Also they added 20% scaling to 2 of the moves used in his main combo route which reduced the damage by a metric ton (Used to hit for 5900 and now hits for about 4900).

I'm not gonna overreact to patch notes, we'll see how these changes pan out in actual gameplay. Yea he's probably worse now, but with so many changes across the board it'll be a while before we can get a full image of where he stands.

DeeJay in particular was always high tier before the patch to begin with and players have been just as equally or even more vocal about characters such as Luke, Ken and JP especially and yet it seems Capcom didn't nerf them as much compared to DeeJay. So this is more really Capcom just seeing they may have made DeeJay too strong and now deciding not to make him as such anymore that's all.

Mura, the most nerfed character in SF6 is HANDDOWN JP.
All his moves got NERFED. SA Level 2 and SA Level 3 are HUGE game changer nerfs for JP.
He got literally nerfed to low mid-tier.
The funny thing is that despite all of the extra scaling, most of the combos you did in this vid still hit as hard or harder than the majority of the cast. His damage was just silly before. Now people will need to get more openings. Maybe people will try making more use of his feints to steal turns, as opposed to just PC fishing with low sway and spinning like a top after b.hk.

Deejay also got affected more by the light attack scaling than other characters since he has the faster DR in the game. He also got nerfed in the previous mini patch. And then there's the fact that the other top tiers got light nerfs while the rest of the cast got buffed.
Deejay is now Freejay.
Good nerfs honestly, DJ has good neutral and really safe gimmicks already so it made no sense that he hit like a truck before.
A lot of the times when you played against DJ it felt like they were just doing gimmicks and hoping to god that you'd mess up so they could delete your health bar.
His gimmicks are still there but now he can't kill you because of a random knee shot lol.

@@specterer cant spam knee shot as much, it gets punish countered, opponents drive reversal can take him out from his normal corner pressure. His changes to Standing Heavy Punch makes him more viable in neutral and links into cr.mp but mostly cr.lp non counter hit pending on space. Has alot of new combos with heavy sobat, level 1 and 2 supers. And can combo from target combos after drive impact into wall. Also for ex sobart you can super cancel into level 3 both hits have to land though used for new combo routes.

Yay deejay can stop stealing rounds now. I love what they did with the character overall but his damage output coupled with his evasiveness, range and utility was absurd. He can keep 3 of the 4 but letting him have everything was nutty

Deejay was egregious in his release state. He had literally zero weaknesses. Great fireballs, great buttons, great rushdown, great mixups, safe on block zero risk 50/50s, high damage, best drive rush in the game etc. He deserves every nerf he gets.
If you ask me, he deserved more nerfs. For one thing, he has no business being a meta character in this game or any other SF game for that matter. He's just a bag of gimmicks whose base model is a that of a poor man's Guile. Capcom went ham you say? Nah, this should have been him in season 1. Why Capcom gave this character a super fast and super long-reaching Drive Rush when it's a universal mechanic is beyond me.
