    Post independence, everytime we got attacked we got zero help from the western world. Only Russia stood by our side. So , yes we will not destroy or backstab Russia over a war which is not ours. If its a matter of principle that the west is so proud of, there are a million instances of this principle being very selectively chosen when convenient. So no India wont suddenly give up on Russia because the untrustworthy west suddenly wants us to. Wont happen, doesn't matter which government comes to power.

    • @johnstanczyk4030
      @johnstanczyk4030 2 месяца назад +2

      India chose to be alone. The Non-Aligned Movement was the main foreign policy pillar of Nehru, who chose not to join SEATO.
      Yes, SEATO did aid Pakistan in a primarily diplomatic manner during the '71 war, the support was so lacklustre that Pakistan left the organisation in 1973 and took the PRC as a patron. I do not know if you could really call that Western support.
      But India is a democracy. Desis can choose India's international alliances: Either
      - join with the West, which it largely has given India joining the Quad, the diversifying of its Military equipment, and the American soldiers stationed with Indian soldiers up at the Line of Actual Control. The problem is that the government seems reluctant to put into its messaging that it is doing these things.
      - vaguely support Russia and hope that Russia will side with India in a Indian-Chinese conflict. Given how indebted Russia is to the PRC, it seems unlikely that Russia would desire or even be able to do much to assist India.

    Put bluntly, this currently means that India, under the rule of a (another 73 years old mini diktak wannabe), is being managed by an old guy looking at a VERY short term notion of that "strategic autonomy" rather than a long term position on the international scene.
    Bottom line is this: India (the Country and its people) have here a major chance of putting their foot onto the international scene as a main player in the long term. Not sure if these are Modi's goals.

    Modi has always been a manipulative wanna-be autocrat, much like Orban in Hungary. India is large and diverse, but the Indian government/military isn't all powerful like China or Russia. If it were, he would be very much like Xi or Putin. Unfortunately, the country is being molded so that the Hindi parts that support Modi get all the development, while the rest is left to complain but have no power to do anything about it. Modi is sitting pretty smug in his Hindi cocoon and feels he doesn't need to accommodate proper democracy or the rest of the world. India is likely to be the next hotspot. While there may be perennial squabbles with China over some arbitrary lines across the Himalayas, it will be the religious tensions to the West that will likely be the more problematic. Modi is counting on the Islamists keeping themselves busy in the ME or turning on each other. Maybe...?!? These autocrats like to take risks, ...but only with the lives of millions of ordinary people.

      @@suryanshsagar2677I think you are parrot phrasing the words of the indian minister who was conveniently looking for an excuse.. Indian refineries paid an average $85.90 a barrel for Russian crude, according to a Bloomberg analysis of government data, just above the $85.70 offered by Iraq, and over $25 higher than the G7's price cap...China is currently purchasing more than india. None of this addresses the circumvention of sanctions by the uk petrochemical industries..who are deliberately purchasing cheaper imports from russia via india and not passing the profit on to the end user in the form of lower energy bills.

However as an individual I stand for non violence and peace and wish world leaders would cooperate together to make the world safe for everyone and prevent wars, beat poverty, tackle climate change and collaborate on beating illness. However, I am realistic enough to know this will never happe. Greed, power and egos will prevent it.
