A fulfilling life is a supremely good thing. To attain it, a person must have vision -- imagination plus granularity -- and a person must have want -- the synthesis of will and desire. In this episode, I will discuss how to cultivate both of these capacities. I also stress the importance of planning for a continuous stream of average Tuesdays, as opposed to a sporadic discontinuity of peak experiences. Finally, I touch on the wisdom of prioritizing the process of becoming, over and above having become.

Now, at age 50, in all my years,so far, I never gave the concepts of a "Fulfilling life", or purpose, or passion, a conscious thought, they literally never occurred to me, I just lived, and went about my daily routine. The first time I heard about these concepts, as concrete, was on RUclips. I suppose, I made conscious decisions for where I wanted to go for holidays, or that I knew early on, that I wouldn't go to college/university, or that I wouldn't get married, and have a family, but no real "plan", or vision. All things considered, life has turned out ok, so I'm not sure why these concepts are so important.

Vision works in Ordered systems no matter how complicated. Vision gives end state from which one can backward plan for forward execution. Such is like a Systems “V” taking a system of systems, breaking into systems, into sub-systems, parts, components, sub-components, then building up sub-components to components to parts… system of systems. But such does not work in Complex systems as the systems change while studying the system and change with interaction with the system. Hence plans cannot be made to the end state or to the vision. Instead, a sense of direction is better. See Dave Snowden with Cynefin and Sense-Making. In the Complex, not only is working on vision likely to be a waste of time, it is likely to be a source of frustration as desired end state often cannot be achieved.

Start reading Objectivism, big time, to understand your issues... and everything else. You need philosophy in your life (good philosophy, not the Kantian filth in school and universities today). Start with the novels "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead" before the non-fiction.

What if the "want" consistently wanes over time, and the lack of fulfillment doesn't come from a lack of will/vision, but from a lack of consistent "want" to drive the achievement to the point where it can actually become fulfilling long-term? Is he/she who does not want (enough) doomed to lead an unfulfilling life? I have had a few "wants" - and I have materially explored all of them - but none of them sustains over a long enough period of time to the point where I can believe it is scalable to my "life". They die out, then reappear, then die out again, as I turn them into realities.

I've always had a difficult time marrying the two.
It's like, I have a clear (medium or long term) vision, and some vague idea of how to get there, and I'm an exceedingly passionate person whose desires I imagine as aligning with the vision, but I'm seemingly unable to sublimate the wants and feel fulfilled while taking most actions that seem or that I deem as towards the vision. It's like there's this disconnect, and I'm left confused and unfulfilled when doing the things I know are supposed to get me where I want.

Great video, really defines the steps in the process of how to get what you actually want in life. I'm a fantastic planner and excel at thinking through and developing the process, or creating the Vision. I struggle with determining my wants though. I'm not unhappy or sad, but I do feel like I'm stuck in a state of constant maintenance mode in life. I've got smaller visions and processes in life in place, but I have no clue what my bigger, long term desires/wants are. If anyone asks me what my goals in life are, beyond the minimal requirements of "saving for retirement" or "paying my house off" etc, I have no other answers. I would love some content on how to find the "Wants" in life.

What worked well for me is ask myself, fast forwarding to the end of this year, or the next one, what would make me very happy and proud to have achieved. The answer to that question should be your main goal.

My comment is that you have to get toxic people out of your life. If that means you ghost your whole family, that’s what you’ve gotta do. I did it 25 years ago and it’s the best decision I ever made. Those people weren’t friends.

So when I look at my life I have both, high want and high vision, but never at the same time :D When the want is high I don’t stick to a vision and when I have a vision there is lack of endurance and distractions. What’s the best way to solve that? I guess building the character traits first that are needed to go further. Thanks for the episode.

Small focused daily increments that serve the higher purpose.
Sometimes prepping the night before and getting to it right of bed can deliver the flow necessary. Then stop before burnout and do some decoupling practices, yoga, meditation, walks, cold showers, nap, breakfast, lunch, whatever. After that give it another go.

Coach Greg Adams saved for *a decade,* to buy his cream car - a Porsche 911 Carrera. *After* he got one - he was *bored* with it after a month! He joking said he should have just leased one for a month, instead.

I just cant seem to win.

I like this episode. IT is well thought out. I would like to hear one on how to stop masterbating. To what extent? Never experience release from sexual tension? The physiolocal people say that a certain amount of ejaculation is much Heather over time than none at all. Toxins build up in the Male system that need occasional flushing by ejacultion. The health risk in total abstinence is prostate cancer. I am willing to bet any amount of money that you ejaculate from time to time.

    • @jakelesnake4927
      @jakelesnake4927 7 месяцев назад

The problem is in the prostate, and I believe there are ways to release these toxins by massage, or even learning to stand on your head for long periods of time. But I prefer to have sex occasionally. I believe sex even with a prostitute with whom you have a respectful relationship offers spiritual benefits. There are still challenges not to get sucked into it as a lifestyle though, nothing is risk free.

that's just what you tell yourself because you can't control the addiction, or you just have an insanely high sex drive. But nutting increases prolactin and decreases testosterone which makes you lethargic and reduces that hunger / want to put in effort to things

Im sure we can find many successful people who fap/sex regularly. There's no hard data that supports the hypothesis. Just seperate/related scientific facts connected together such as your prolactin fact.

    • @905words9

@@Victor-it6bv theres been plenty of studies that show that testosterone makes effort feel good. Its definitely linked to that. Also if you think about it, the male sex drive is our life force in a way. Everything we do is for women indirectly, the fancy cars, the status chase, the flexing, the wealth. Its all connected to access to pussy in a way, it would make sense that our sex drive is our life force and if you keep fapping and taking it out it’s probably not ideal. That’s just my take on it, whatever works for you.
