  • This online course focuses on the Micro-CT characterization tool which uses x-rays to visualize internal details of a wide variety of samples. Three sections in this video outline the Basic Function, Sample Preparation, and Measurement features of the Micro-CT at Duke University's Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility (SMIF -- smif.pratt.duke.edu/)
For the entire "Nanotechnology: A Maker's Course" playlist go to www.coursera.org/learn/nanote... .
This course has been developed by faculty and staff experts in nano-fabrication, electron beam microscopy, and nano-characterization through the Research Triangle Nanotechnology Network (RTNN -- www.rtnn.ncsu.edu/). The RTNN offers training and use of the tools demonstrated in this course to schools and industry through the United States National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure program. The tools demonstrated in this course are available to the public through the RTNN.

Fantastic information. Thank you. Do you have a open library with raw u-CT Z-stack data?

Yes! A wonderful resource for open-access CT data was created by the same Duke Faculty member who was instrumental in the original purchase of our CT. It is called Morphosource.org, and its collection focuses mainly on biological specimens (largely skeletal material of modern and fossil critters).

Is anywhere a database of this micro ct images?

Generally No. The database is huge, e.g. more than 10Gb for one bird.

One place to look for open access MicroCT data is Morphosource.org -- the images in this presentation may not be available there, but it is a growing online repository for this sort of CT data.
