I'm 38 and I remember watching this movie for the first time on home video when I was a kid with my parents. I didn't get all the jokes at the time, but I remember really enjoying the movie. Having watched it many years later, I am amazed at the collection of talent in this movie. When people ask me what my #1 favorite movie is, I tell them It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. 99.9% of the time they have no idea what I'm talking about. It's a shame really. This movie has transcended generations and has never lost its humor. I really wish today's generation could appreciate this classic as much as I do.
I’m 38 now, my old man showed me this on his old VHS copy he found back in 96’. Still THE funniest movie I’ve ever seen. Tried to get my nephew to watch it a few years ago and he didn’t even make it through the first 5 minutes. I’m thankful to have been introduced to this timeless movie.
I saw "Mad Mad World" (the whole 210-minute shebang) back in 1963 when I was 5 years old and 3 scenes featuring Jonathan Winters were permanently burned into my memory: when he stomps and then precariously rides on the girls' bicycle, the moment when he slowly turns around to look at the big W, and the unforgettable sequence (not included here) where he single-handedly demolishes an entire service station. He was like a Looney Toons character that came to life, only funnier.
@@freeguy77 Thing is a government is a system to sustain social order and maintain infrastructure. Like it or not: taxes are a means of funding and maintenance of the structures, systems, supply chains and operations of not only the government, but the nation and it's society and infrastructures, services, and industry functions that we as a society benefit from and require to live our day to day lives in this age. Without taxes to fun those things; those various structures, systems, supply chains and operations of not only the government, but the nation and it's society and infrastructures, services, and industry functions:would not be able to exist effectively, or even at all, and would be disrupted, broken down and implode without any means to keep them running or funded. If they can simply create "new" money out of thin air (Federal Reserve banking cartel, since 1914), then why do they need to tax anyone when they can create all the "money" they want from nothing? Soofwan, I love the gag (if people of his generation caught it), where Phil Silvers briefly reverts to his old Sgt. Bilko voice and military ordering with Don Knotts at the cafe, imploring him to go inside and make the call to the CIA. Perfect stuff!
One of the funniest movies ever made. I've watched this with my family at least two dozen times and it still makes us laugh just as hard every single time. Jonathan Winters was way too funny of this. 😂
From first moment of sailing right out there and kicking the bucket to end where Ethel slips over in hospital and they all laugh together , isn’t laughing wonderful ?!!!!!
+snorman1911 Me , and my family as well are all big fans of this movie...I grew up as a kid in the 70's,and when I watched this movie with my family for the first time ( I was the youngest of nine) I was hooked still one of my favorite movies, and brings back great family memories from my childhood....

unbelievable movie. can u imagine all the comedy stars of today, doing a movie? no chance. this was so ground breaking, no one ever did it again, which makes no sense. but this movie. by far best comedy ever. look at the cast list.
This film with the all-star cast was never done again because of the colossal pains in the ass all the actors in this movie were, constantly trying to upstage and out-do each other. The tons of egos made filming a nightmare for the director and cast.
nowadays everyone has to be the star and have the most jokes (or an equal amount) - that's kind of what happened with Ghostbusters 2016 - i honestly believe that the people in this movie did it for the love of the art
My favourite comedy film by far and yes to me it is timeless. The characters depicted here by an excellent cast are executed sublimely. Wonderful wonderful . I can still remember the first time on TV I watched the truck driver pick up the broken bicycle; brilliant. Many many years later I introduced my youngest daughter to the film when she was probably only about 10 at the time, she loved it and by 11 could recite passages with me acting different parts like the scene of one share this and one share for that. Unbelievable cast . Terrific film
Jonathan Winters was the central piece of this comedy classic - a star among stars. And to think that he was going through an incredibly trying times in his personal life during the filming!
Stoked, but there is a lot of 'bosoms' mentioned! I love those scenes with Milton Berle and Terry-Thomas, trading insults about the other's birth country (U.S. and England). Truly funny gags, especially the one from Russell (Milton Berle) saying, "without Lend-Lease, you're whole country would have sunk in the Atlantic!" [paraphrasing somewhat]
Oh yes, he was just the best. He was my mom and dad's favorite too. I met him once, a long time ago, he was using a pay phone. And then another time I saw him at a restaurant, an old hangout in Toluca Lake. I don't know why but he asked me if I would like to share an egg sandwich with him.
Thanks for posting this video. I was just a kid when this played at the local drive-in theater. Such a great cast and of course Jonathan was always a genius. Farewell funny man.
This film holds a special place in my life. One of my earliest movie memories. I did not have the opportunity to see it on the big screen, must have been breathtaking. When it it play on television it was an evening event. On that T.V. Johnathan Winters would come into our home and bring his gifted talent and his indelible characters. I was upset to hear of his passing...and in this Mad World we live in today, I think Mr. Winters would want us to smile. Thank you for the nice comment. Gart.

I didn't know who he was at the time and later realized I was witness to a great talent. I would like to think that him and Robin are do some outrageous improvization together again.
I completely agree with you. The impact this man had on us is unmeasurable, I can relate to his personal battles, and admire him that much more for being able to bring such joy to so many. No, there will never again be a comic genius like Jonathan Winters.
