My dad was a U.S. Army Ranger in WWII, often behind enemy lines. To be honest I think he had PTSD, but it wasn't called that back then. He didn't like to talk about the war, but when he saw this sketch when it first aired he almost fell out of his chair laughing. I like to think that he's up in heaven shaking Tim Conway's hand right now. RIP Dad and Tim.
I Believe the term was called "Shell Shock". Being born in 71, my family would watch this show every chance they had. The golden age of comedy, which also seems to be a lost art. Comedy today is anything but what once was.
Born in 60. My 2 Grandfather's, 2 Uncles. All made it home.. we were all very close through the 80s.. They never talked. They all had nightmares bad through the 60s as I vividly recall staying with Grandparents at their lake home throughout my years. The GREATEST generation 🇺🇲
Nice story, bro.
My uncle was in wwii. I asked him what it was like. All he said was “the food was bad, the pay was terrible and it was a little dangerous.” He won the bronze star.
@@ericeck you are right. It quoted “for running across an open field under heavy German fire, heavily laden with explosives, repelled down a cliff, destroyed a German bunker, and took 9 German prisoners.” I read it off the award certificate.
No one could keep a straight face when Tim Conway was on set. One of the funniest comedians EVER!!!
Tim Conway was SAVAGE when it came to breaking up the other actors. So good.
My mom went into labor with me after laughing heartily at this show. I grew up loving it in syndication. RIP all the folks who made this show such a treasure.

John 3:16-17

My wife went into labor from laughing too hard at a Jerry Lewis movie...I guess laughter is the key to birth!!!!
I really love that story! I bet Tim would love it too!❤
What a story! ! 👍 😮😊Ooopss I had to edit! Made a mistake the 1st time.
EVERY single time I watch this, it lifts my spirits and makes me smile. I wish that kind of wholesome comedy existed today...
Wholesome comedy about N@zi interrogations?
@@RadicalCaveman I don't think they were condoning or glorifying Nazi-ism at all, but rather likely ridiculing it by getting people to laugh at it. Times were way different back then and comedy didn't have to tiptoe around sensitive issues, like today. Just my opinion, of course. Yes, I lived through that period and watched those shows on TV. Compared to the raunchiness of comedy that followed, this show was indeed wholesome.
Waggoner said later that he didn't know the railroad song was coming. He did a remarkable job of holding it together considering lol.
he was going to threaten the man with a gun to his head and there was no gun
That's the one thing I've always loved about that show. A lot of what Tim Conway did was ad-libbed. If you watch the show enough every single character and guest star on the show could never hold it together when Tim Conway started to do his thing. Him and Harvey Korman make the best team.
L Haviland no he didn’t. Tim owned him and Waggoner had no where to go..
Commentator his genius was that he wasn’t trying to make us (the audience) laugh, but rather his co stars which in turn made it even funnier....
Who made that song?
One of the few times I saw my dad virtually in tears that were caused by laughing so hard. He loved this show.
These comedians were pure comic gold. No profanity, no nudity, just humor. I wish this kind of comedy would come back in style
Nothing worth while will ever come back in style again it has come and gone - we are stuck with the rubbish we have now.
This is the Best COMEDIANS Ever! It will never comeback & we are stuck with the crap today!
RIP to all of them!
The BEST ‼️👍
It can't too many ppl complain about everything
@@awesomecool3280 YES someone will be offended by something. People live in angst and fear of their identity. How sad....
And Harvey and Lyle trying to keep a straight face.
This was the best show EVER. Every single episode was pure genius. Everything on television today is garbage.
Amen! Nowadays, all it is is woke Garbage!
Lyle didn’t know the puppet was coming. The look of “Wtf?” on his face is genuine, him hitting back the puppet is improv, all of it. And he wasn’t prepared for it, so Tim knew he had him in the ropes when the singing started. As as Lyle was losing the battle, Tim just sang more... and more... and more... 😂

Making millions laugh with a puppet and a pencil. Beyond comic gold.....this man was a gift❤
I think Tim made it his mission to make the cast laugh as often as possible.
He always had something up his sleeve.
Carol always said no one knew what he would do, just like the rest of the cast.
Perfect example....Elephant episode, Conway ad libs, Vikki Lawrence drops them all on the floor...even Tim.
Yes, Mr. Conway admitted in later interviews that he made it his personal mission to do so.
This was when TV was good TV shows like this. We're awesome, gotta love the show. Gotta love Carol Burnett.
As soon as Conway saw them start to crack, he’d get that gleam in his eye like I’ve got them now. I give Lyle credit for lasting as long as he did, but as soon as Tim took out the “club”, he was a goner. I think they had to keep the camera on them because if they switched to Harvey, you’d have seen him cracking up for sure. Absolute comedic genius was Tim Conway- like Robin Williams, he could simply be funny at any second
The genius of Tim was that he wasn’t trying to make us (the audience) laugh. He was gunning for Lyle which made us laugh...
Apparently that's exactly what was happening. Harvey was apparently laughing on the floor
RIP Tim Conway. Heaven is rolling with laughter today....
And making Harvey piss himself again.
this show is proof god has a sense of humor, rip funnymen
And now Lyle is gone. 😢

I saw Harvey and Tim in concert.
Stomach was sore for days from laughing.
One of a kind duo.
I saw Tim Conway and Tom Poston in a play in Dallas. After the show, they came out to talk to the audience. In the middle of talking about how much he likes doing this play (which he wrote), Conway suddenly says, “Of course, if Carol calls, I’m out of here.” And Tom Poston follows with, “Yeah, if Bob (Newhart) calls me…” I think those lines got a bigger laugh than anything in the actual play.
How lucky were you. Very jealous.
IMHO Harvey was extremely underrated as a comedic genius. And the Korman/Conway “team” similarly so. The laughs they created for all of us, both singularly & collectively....will never be seen again!
Totally agree!
Harvey adored Tim. I truly believe he thought Tim was the funniest person in the world. I want to live a long life, but it saddens me to have watched these men, and others, grow old and pass on. But what a legacy they left us to enjoy. 😊
I dare say you speak for all of us!
Watching Lyle crack up is the funniest thing I've done all day 😂😂😂 he usually held it together, but that puppet was too much for him lol 😂
This is one of the many terrific shows
Ya he could not hold a strait face on the puppet!!😂😂😂
Yes. Too much for Lyle.
😄😄
The way he fakes the German accent is absolutely hilarious, just brilliant
This troupe NEVER truly got the credit it deserved. Just phenomenal
Harvey is absolute genius, the pairing of him and Tim was comedy at its finest.
I am the most feared interrogator in all the world and part of Canada!
Tim knew he could break Harvey.... but he wouldn’t stop til Lyle broke
Which happens to fit in perfectly fine with the skit, to break the prisoner! 😃
I’m already really missing Tim Conway. That’s a huge loss

@TealCircle Tim died 10 months ago, you must be thinking of Harvey. Also, RIP Lyle Waggoner. He just passed a few hours ago.
@TealCircle
No he hasn't. Tim died 10 months ago (not 10+ years). The other poster is right.

You're right. Tim Conway died on May 14, 2019 at the age of 85..
...and Lyle Waggoner died a few days ago on March 17. He was 84.
( Harvey Korman died almost 20 years ago on May 29, 2008. He was 81)
@TealCircle
I did Google it. I looked at 8 or more websites and they all say he died in 2019.
Lyle did a heck of a job holding together...almost...
Lyle: I had 1 job....1 JOB!!!... 😂😂
He did fine trying to play the dejected, downcast, resigned prisoner... then that hilarious little brat came on 🤣
I could not have done as well....
It had to be very hard to work with Tim and not crack up.
There was no one like Tim Conway to crack anyone up.
Man, what a nut Tim Conway was! Even after his death he's still sharing his gift of laughter with us!🤣
Tim Conway owns us all
RIP Lyle Waggoner. Best POW ever.

And that's really hard to do!😂👍
I grew up on the dwarf videos Tim made. I wonder how many holes they had to dig for him lol
Howlingly funny and creative. And with no need for vulgarity and crassness. Korman and Conway were a team that played off each other so well that they created timeless comedy moments that will be howlingly funny 100 years from now
Sadly they are all gone now. But never forgotten. God bless them.
today we lost Lyle Waggoner, who also made this show one of the best on TV
Harvey Korman and Tim Conway - one of the greatest and most talented comedy teams ever!!
That puppet looks like something from Mr. Roger's land of make-believe.
dancepiglover
I thought so too! It looks like it’s from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood!
Omg I had the same thought! Like the lady Elaines cousin or something lol
Does anyone have a picture or video of Vicki Lawrence's thighs?
Mr. Rogers’ Reich
That little Hitler puppet is certainly NOT wanted in their neighborhood, Mr. Rogers puppets would have him lynched!
Carol Burnett's Show has stood the test of time! What a Fantastic Team of Comedians and Writers! R.I.P. Mr. Conway. You left us all with terrific memories of joy and laughter.
Lots of good memories as a kid sitting around the TV watching this show with the family. Love it.
Farewell, sweet Lyle Waggoner, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
It's not easy to share a stage with comedians of this caliber, but you filled your straight man part well.
I love this! All that bad German, just fabulous!
Sweet Dreams Mr. Conway. Thanks for the laughs. R I P
I swear Tim's only goal on this show is to break his friends and he succeeds every time! This one is too freaking funny!
Your very correct..As a matter of fact Carroll Burnett did actually say alot of what Tim did wasnt rehearsed. She said Harvey most of the time didnt know whatvwas around the corner.
I love Harvey Korman’s “pidgin German” that sounds so like the language without really saying anything!
RIP Harvey, Tim, and Lyle. Thanks for the laughs
The whole bit with the hand puppet wasn't in the script at all. The look Lyle gave Harvey was "WTF is this?!" This bit still kills me today.
I know. He has an almost stunned look at first like, "Is this really happening right now? Does Tim really have a Hitler puppet? Where the hell is he taking this?? Damn you, Conway!" But it's the mumbling singing that does it. Hilarious!
Erik Blankenship never knew that, thanks, apparently Tim did this often?
Tim did stuff like that constantly on the show. I don't think there were many skits where he didn't go off script. The 'elephant story' was probably the best of them all. It was completely made up on the spot. Even when he or Harvey won Emmy awards, it was off the cuff and hilarious.
Tim Conway in my opinion is the best comedian ever. his improve is the best
+short step It's like with the skit where he's a civil war officer drumming out Harvey's character and he uses the Tudball accent for the first time. Harvey starts laughing cause I don't think Tim was told to do an accent.
I had heard that originally the puppet wasnt in the script. It caught Lyle and Harvey totally by surpise!
In an interview Tim said he would follow the script in dress rehearsal but when it came show time he would go almost completely off script to break them. The fact that he pulled off a prop like that with no rehearsal is a testament to his comedic skill.
Tim Conway is a comedic legend.
As a baby boomer, this episode never gets old with me (along with the "Gone with the Wind" skit).
Yes, “Went With the Wind” is probably my favorite Carol Burnett Show skit!
RIP Lyle Waggoner. This sketch always had me in stitches. in huge part to your facial expressions and not being able to hold it in :) (Much like Harvey most of the time) . Awesome!
When Conway knows he's got them, it really gets hysterical...great stuff!!
jim petrie
jim petrie yes.....wonderfully without mercy in regards to Harvey Kormann
I love this so very much! Rest In Peace, Tim Conway!
Harvey's German gibberish is genius.
Foreign sounding double-talk done brilliantly! ☺
I just now noticed his sly reference to Burr Tillstrom (of "Kukla, Fran, and Ollie") hidden in his gribberish just after getting Tim to stop with the puppet.
@Bosco oh snowflake...
Why am I not the least bit surprised to see a left wing snowflake in this day and age get offended by someone making fun of the nazis.
Well Mr. Frost you sure are quick to judge people and use derogatory names aren't you. As a Christian I was taught not to judge people like that.
I LAUGHED IN 1975 AND I JUST LAUGHED AGAIN! WHAT A THRILL TO
BE TAKEN BACK TO A TIME WHEN HUMOR WAS ACTUALLY HUMOROUS!
THE VERSATILITY OF THE ACTORS TO BE SO FUNNY WITH SUCH SIMPLE MATERIAL, WAS INCREDIBLE‼️
THE LIVE AUDIENCE ADDED ENOUGH ENERGY TO MAKE EACH SKIT A GEM‼️
BEING TAKEN BACK TO THE MORE SIMPLE TIMES, WAS A JOYOUS
TREAT! THANK YOU FOR THAT‼️
WHO SAID THAT YOU CAN’T GO BACK?
I love it! Nothing makes me laugh so hard! They'll never be another show like it! Thank you for the laughs! We need more today!! 💕
The genius of Tim Conway was that he wasn’t trying to make us (the audience) laugh, he was trying to break Lyle.
Or Harvey Korman. Lyle Waggoner was lucky to keep his composure for as long as he did.
He succeeded. I guarantee you he didn’t sing that much of the song in the dress rehearsal
You are absolutely correct, and this id why he was such a comedic genius.
Yeah, and Harvey usually proved so much weaker than Lyle in that regard . . . which is one of the things that made Harvey so inimitable. I miss him.
7:47 😂😂
This show was 100x better than SNL. True, brilliant comedy
Allison Holly
Definately! SNL hasn't really been all that funny since the days of John Belushi and Eddie Murphy. These days, there's too much politics on "comedy" shows, and not enough that's really funny, in a traditional way. Not much that's really creative, like this skit, which was hilarious.
Allison Holly yes it is. Still love it today.
That's because they did'nt have to resort to satirizing politics to be funny. Their writers and cast were a lot more talented than the present day SNL staff.
Henry Soto the fuck are you talking about? SNL has been satirizing politics since season one. Dipshit stooges like you are only bitching about it now because you cant handle being the butt of the joke.
Roger Warith SNLs ratings have consistently been higher than they've been in a good long while, and CNN is in no way "promoting" the show. Are you sure you know what that word means? Also, having the last name "Soto" has nothing to do with one's political views so idk what point you thought you were making there either.
And you also managed to ignore the entire point here, which is that SNL has satirized American politics since season ONE! Maybe even EPISODE one. No one has bitched and cried about it over the last FORTY-TWO YEARS as hard as these babies have been crying since 2015. And so the only reason this could possibly be is that Trump's little cult simply can NOT handle being made fun of and have an autistic MELTDOWN whenever the Dear Leader is made fun of. Politics and comedy have been intertwined for decades. Get over it, ya whiny dipshit.
it was the timing in "someone's in the kitchen with dinah" that killed. the little pauses between each line of the song turned it from amusing to REALLY funny. and then at the end of each verse there are these horrible, slightly-too-long extra moments of silence before the next verse inevitably grinds into motion, that make it MURDEROUSLY HILARIOUS.
Tim Conway has perfect timing. I love how his goal is to make the rest break out laughing.
You are so right. I remember watching a doco years ago on Dean Martin and when he and Frank Sinatra were doing a double act on stage, Frank later complained to Dean that Dean got the funnier lines, to which Dean said only he could do them because Frank "wasn't funny". Frank convinced him to swap roles for the following performance and lo and behold, hardly anyone laughed. Dean said comedy is not so much in the material, but much more about timing and delivery. You nailed it with the slightly longer pauses in between the lines - the slight suspense they generated made the next line so much funnier. What a comic genius.
sleepCircle, Tim Conway is my most favorite actor and comedian!
Well put.
Lyle thinking: okay...breathe....I got this......NOOOOOO...HE'S GOING TO SING ANOTHER VERSE!
RIP, Tim. You were one of the best
My only regret of this scene is that we couldn't see if Harvey was losing it during the puppet stuff.

Robin Williams was close to Tim in his comedy. He did a lot of improvisation. “Good Morning Vietnam” and “Aladdin” are two examples of how good he was.
