Huey Lewis always gave off that "effortlessly cool dad" vibe... and that's why we loved him.
I don't know, they're just too darn loud!
@js0988 haha, Marty McFly!
Look up :effortlessly cool dad" vibe in the dictionary and there is a picture of Robert Palmer.
@@jethro1963nah, Robert was everyone's cool uncle.
I think J and Amber are the effortlessly cool dad and mom so of course they love it.
This group takes me back to the happiest times of my life. 😊❤ The 80’s forever
Right on!
I liked "Heart and Soul" (Huey Lewis).. about 1982. Hey, its the 80s !! lol
Patrick Bateman from American Psycho 2000: "In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is 'Hip To Be Square'. A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself."
HEY, PAUL!
Very true. This isn't Motley Crew
@@yaimavol Are you seriously telling me that Huey Lewis didn't sing Dr. Feelgood?
And then he got out the axe!
The only person that didn't like that album was Paul Allen😂😂
Love Huey Lewis, so sad to hear that he can’t hear music anymore. What a great musician.❤
Worse he can hear, but it's all buzzing, and crap.
I;ve often thought that they should have cast him to be the terrorist-receptionist guy in Die Hard (at the front desk "How can i help you, officer?") . He looked JUST like Huey. If that WAS Huey, it woulda made a great movie even greater.
Also, Seinfeld should have been cast as the shooter from the bathroom in Pulp Fiction who missed Jules and Vincent with every shot.
@@slchance8839Huey has been in Several movies but not Die Hard, the guy you are thinking about is Dennis Hayden!
@@censorshipsucks9493 only if he has his hearing aids in. recent interview he said that he really cannot hear anymore without them
@@TheFreddo12 either way that sucks.
A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself...
This is the comment I was looking for.

Hey, Paul !
😂🪓
Hey Paul !!!
When this song came out in 1986, Huey Lewis and the News were at their peak in popularity. Their album Sports came out in 1983, Back to the Future movie came out in 1985, and the album Fore! (which included this song) came out in 1986, and was on heavy rotation on MTV and radio. Huey was a great songwriter and singer, and his library of music is huge. Sadly he is in bad health these days, but I saw him many times in concert, and his concerts were as fun as his music is. Thank you guys for always praising Huey and the News, as they are iconic! Great job!
Super Bowl champion San Francisco 49ers players Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Dwight Clark and Riki Ellison sing backup vocals
You really can’t go wrong with this group!
Exactly what I was thinking.
Gotta do heart and soul. It was their first hit and hardly anyone has reacted to it
Gotta shout ot those Tower Of Power horns on this track and tour! The Fore! Tour was the best!🔥
@@zerosteel0123 "Do You Believe In Love" was their first hit.
@@seanswinton6242 Tower of Power brought a lot to the band when they joined in. I live about 25 miles north of their place in Marin County, just north of San Francisco and they were "Super Stars" around home and earned it! The first time I saw them live was at the fair, standing in the middle of turn 3 at the Petaluma Fairground Race Track. It was a Great Show, of course!! 😂
So glad you all love it. This song was everywhere!
So much that it got referenced in other songs! I can’t hear this without hearing Jack Blades of Night Ranger singing, 🎶“On the radio the guy says come on, it’s so hip hip hip to be square!” 🎶 😊
Fun fact! SF 49ers Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Dwight Clark, and Riki Ellison sang backup vocals on this song!!
That’s interesting
Huey Lewis and the News is such a powerhouse band, it is IMPOSSIBLE to find a bummer track of theirs! I love these boys! Bad is Bad is your next song for sure!
-#cheers-- !-
Love the Bad is Bad vidclip, just pure cool & vibe walking around the city as a band early in the morning with garbage trucks doing their thing & Huey on his harmonica...classic & bluesy...
Also Small World from 1988...I'll never forget, I'm in college then and my roommate then, this guy Tim, us and our friends, when this song came on, we'd always say "the bar is now open!!"
Yes! I always loved this song.
Dave Edmunds also does a nice version of "Bad is Bad"
“Couple days off”, “Bad is bad”, “Walking on a thin line”. ❤❤❤ Love Huey Lewis and The News!!
I feel like HL&tN don't get the recognition they deserve! THIS is the sound of the eighties! Their sound WAS the decade - strong beat, sax, harmonica.... the BEST.
Love all of Huey's music! Have a square day!
-xD !-
The whole album this is from - Fore! - is full of bangers, covering everything from rock to doowop to power ballad, with an amazing horn section in most songs
Knowing Huey Lewis is deaf in one ear makes it even more amazing the great music they put out, recently he acknowledged that he is going deaf in his other ear also
Yes, he's done. They can't fix it. He has to retire. Sad
As exercise people, you gotta love Huey Lewis and the News for working out. He can keep you driving! His "Bad is Bad" is fun.
That's funny as I think we did aerobics to this song in the mid 80s at our gym!
I Remember doing Jazzercize to this one! What fun!
-awesome !-
"HEY PAUL!!!" 🪓
@loritajohnson5664 Yes! I taught a class with this music, and there were a lot of fun steps!
The only thing better than seeing Huey Lewis and the News live and in-person was to see them open up for Heart.
I love Doin’ It All for My Baby - great horns in it. As others have said - Hard to go wrong with this group.
After suffering through ten years of disco and the rest of the bland music during the 70s ...first time I heard Huey and the News on MTV, I thought "Thank GOD, rock and roll is BACK!"
Dude has such a unique and powerful voice
I knew Rob Squad would be dancing in their seats! Yes! My 8th grade band class played this song the same year it came out. I played trumpet and had a blast with it. If Rob Squad runs out of released hits by Huey/News, know that this album Fore and Sports albums were filled with great deep album tracks. It was great growing up in the 80's as a hard rocker and still had great mainstream artists like this.
Really miss the days of high school jazz band. It went so fast, and all we ever wanted to do was grow up.
Every generation needs to hear this song in their teens.
Freaking love Huey. The pinnacle of 80's pop rock. Probably the best use of the rock and roll saxophone ever!
"Heart and Soul" should be your next Huey Lewis & the News song, it's got a great hook to it and guitar riff...😊
Hearing this band always takes me back to my childhood in the best way! I would recommend the song Jacob's Ladder, another great song from Huey Lewis and The News. 😊
A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself! 🪓
Wise words, MR. Bateman.
😂🙌
You guys doing Huey makes my night. He's got so many great songs!
This song was accurate for the Reagan era 80s. I remember the button down shirts, short bi-level haircuts, oxford shoes, very few ball caps, etc. Almost the opposite of today.
When this tune came out it was so ridiculous. Now, with a second listen after quite awhile, I realize how good Huey Lewis was. He had a great string of hits. He defined The Power of Love, said it was okay to Want A New Drug and let us know that he was happy to be Stuck with You.
Thanks for reviewing! Huey Lewis & The News is just brilliant, so underrated
Jacob’s Ladder should be your next reaction to Huey Lewis & the News! Great song! Great band whose music has stood the test of time!
One of my faves...Huey Lewis & the News plus the Tower of Power horn section, what's not to love??
The Children's Television Workshop parodied this song for Sesame Street. They named the parody "It's Hip to be a Square."
Huey Lewis and the News song "Naturally" is a really great song. It shows Huey's vocal talent.
Naturally is an amazing, must-hear performance. Even for someone who has gotten used to always enjoying Huey's sound, it will blow you away.
Yup, and it shows oh their performance on Letterman.
Audible serotonin.
Hughey Lewis and the News were the last true Rock n Roll band.
At the end of the song, members of the San Francisco 49’ers football team were singing back up vocals with the band. This song was hugely popular when it came out.
If I remember correctly, Joe Montana and Dwight Clark were 2 of the 49ers that sang the backing vocals at the end.
@@thomasreske4628 Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Dwight Clark, and Riki Ellison
First band i ever saw and many will agree they are an extremely tight, well disciplined and very talented live band.
Another surprisingly good, and reltively recent song from Huey Lewis and Gwenyth Paltrow is their version of the Smokey Robinson hit, "Cruisin'". And I remember seeing them on MTV a lot, with the first appearance for, "I Want a New Drug." I loved that video. He sang with his face in a sink of ice water.
I love the story Huey Lewis told after their first hit. His father always told him that the best music was not the most popular on the radio. So when their song went to #1, he said, "I thought we were better than that."
And when they were first starting to get noticed, a record executive told him that they would be huge if the replaced one of his band members. He stressed about this until, he and the rest of the band, decided not to fire him. Years later, when they were becoming famous, a different record exec told him he had to get rid of another member. That's we he knew that the industry did not have the musician's interest at heart. They only wanted to exert control. When he told the rest of the News about this second attempt, they all laughed.
that was from the karaoke movie she did, wasn't it? They did a cover of Joe Cocker in that too that was great.
@@mikeh720 Yep, the movie is called Duets and Huey is in it, too. It also stars Paul Giamatti, Andre Braugher, and Maria Bello. Underrated flick, imo.
@clh35 truly an underrated film. The whole cast is great 👍
Huey Lewis and The News were GIGANTIC in the 1980s. Their album Sports had several number one songs and were practically the soundtrack for the movie “Back to the Future”.
My father - who was 49 when this came out - loved this tune so much, he'd blast it on the stereo all the time, LOL. Drove my little brother and I crazy (we were both 80s Metalheads).
Another great Huey Lewis and the News song for you to check out is "Doing It All for My Baby." The video would be a perfect Halloween themed song for next month!
Huey Lewis and The News are the greatest bar band ever!!!
If I wake up in a foul mood or feel like it's going to be a bad day, I put on some Huey. It's impossible for me to frown or be in a bad mood when I hear these guys. Pure fun!
They were one of the most popular pop bands of the real MTV era! I’ve always loved them. Their music was much of the soundtrack for Back to the Future and Huey was the judge in the movie for Marty’s high school talent show
When Huey calls out, "Tell 'em boys!", members of the San Francisco 49ers came in on vocals!
One of the greatest bar bands ever.. Huey Lewis and the J Giels Band were both the greatest live… they never recorded anything they couldn’t replicate live but with even more excitement. Great bar bands…
I always liked this Huey Lewis song because I’m definitely a square. Am I hip? Well, apparently Huey Lewis thinks so. I’ll take his word for it! 😅😎
We were musically blessed back in the 80's !!!❤❤❤
Huey Lewis & the News “Heart and Soul” 🙏
Fun fact: The background singers at the end of the song were done by members of the San Francisco 49’s. They kept it local!
There's something super amazing about watching Amber rock out to Huey Lewis and the News being Square, wearing an Ozzy t-shirt LOL 💕🤘😎 love them both and love y'all for taking us back to the 80s again!
For more quintessential 80s, you need I Want Candy by Bow Wow Wow, 99 Red Balloons by Nena, Walking in La by Missing Persons, and I Want To Be A Cowboy by Boys Don’t Cry ✌💚🌻
whenever i hear this song it always reminds me of that one scene from american pyscho, if you know you know
Oh I know!... There's also a parody of that scene done by Weird Al Yankovic and Huey Lewis himself doing the Christian Bale part...
Fumb's up always for Huey!
"Bad is Bad" is a really fun song. I miss the group touring. This is the longest I've gone without seeing a Huey Lewis and the News in concert since the 90s. I hope he finds some way to go on the road one last time.
They are the best!! You should hear them sing the National Anthem!! Amazing!❤
Great instrumentals and Huey’s vocals were really fantastic in this. Two other favorites of mine are “Back in Time” from Back to the Future, and “Jacob’s Ladder” which I believe was a number one song, one of his biggest hits.
Fore! is a FANTASTIC album, and this is the song that sold me on Huey Lewis and The News! I LOVE watching y’all enjoy this song that was part of my high school soundtrack - you’re right, you can’t stay in a bad mood listening to this! Great job, as always!
"It's alright" by Huey Lewis and the News. Acapella doo-wop. So, so good.
you’re right, Huey Lewis & The News just put you in a good mood. I appreciate this band good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll at its best. I just saw the play with all their music in it and it was excellent. If you get a chance to go see this play I think it’s called the heart of rock ‘n’ roll, please go you won disappointed
"In '87 Huey released this 👉FOUR! their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. There's a few songs by these guys from '91 which are overlooked but I really dug at the time: "Couple Days Off" and "Hit Me Like A Hammer", both worth your time IMHO! Great reaction, guys! :)
Agree with both. I love Whole Lotta Lovin' off of Fore.
Thanks for the suggestions. I just listened to them both, and I agree, they’re both really good songs!
"Fire" - Mothers Finest.
The horns here are performed by the mighty and legedary Tower of Power horn section! Two guys in TOP have been around since day 1 and they are forever grateful to Huey cause they say he saved them! Back in the '80s the biz concidered Tower of Power dinosaurs like way passe. They were struggling getting gigs, studio time and almost became forgotten. Huey turned out to be a big fan of the band and wanted to bring the horn section for his tours. At this time Huey was one of the biggest artists of the world so it was a huge honor for the horn section. They wanted a favor in return that Huey promoted the band and he gladly did and due to him people kinda re-discovered Tower of Power again. They say if it wasn't for Huey they might not have survived as a band.
Great fun band. They were HUGE in the 80's.
I love this band, and loved your reaction!
As someone slightly younger than a typical Huey Lewis fan and slightly older than ya'll, I fall in the perfect middle ground where my mom played him for me as a toddler and so I grew up on him, but also I am pleased to say I've seen them live 3 times as an adult. He's since stopped touring...but let me tell you, people were literally dancing in the aisles of the sections with seats! Those of us with "cheap, lawn seats" were dancing EVERYWHERE!
This was a major one. I remember it getting a lot of play on MTV. Remember that cable channel devoted to playing music?
Years ago I worked at a large amphitheater near Detroit called Pine Knob. One summer Huey and the boys played there on the Fourth of July. After their last encore they came back out on stage and sang the National Anthem acapella, in harmony, and it was amazing. After they finished the anthem a fire works show started on the ski hill behind the theater. What a great show.
Love Huey Lewis & the News. He toured college campuses in his early days. We had a chance to see them for free & couldn't make it. At the time, we had not heard of them. We definitely kicked ourselves after hearing them.
You two will ALWAYS be too cool to worry about being square.
I love this song! The song features San Francisco 49ers players Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Dwight Clark, and Riki Ellison singing backup vocals.
Joe said they turned his mic off cuz he’s such a bad singer
I totally agree.huey Lewis is just fun, hip, and cool
Their concerts were always a party vibe. The first time I saw them was in a small old theatre just as they were hitting and everyone danced through the whole concert. I actually preferred it to the other 3 times I saw them in big venues, though those were fun too.
little background on this song...singing backup on this song is several members of the 1985-1986 San Francisco 49ers
The queen of chair dancing has found her anthem!
Huey Lewis & The News are one of the most talented bands around and yet so under appreciated. This is a fun song with a great groove. Love this band!
These guys were my first concert at a teen in the 80's, so they hold a special place in my heart. Then entire Sports album is a rock solid listen.
The anthem of the 80s nerds. You don’t have to be part of the hell-raising, hard-partying, cool crowd, to be “hip” in your own way.
A hidden gem of their's is "Jacob's Ladder"... Still listening to these guys 30+ years later...
Background singers in the end included Joe Montana, Dwight Clark, Ronnie Lott, Kena Turner - All Super Bowl winning SF 49ers!
This video and song has the cameo appearances from SF 49ers legends including Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Ricky Ellison and Dwight Clark doing background vocals.
Huey Lewis and the News always put me in a good mood!
I had this on a 45 and I wore it out and bought another one. A great memory from the year I graduated high school. Thanks guys.
Notice the really tight horn section? The founders of "Tower of Power" actually credit Huey - a fellow Bay Area musician - for reviving their popularity. As great as they are they were struggling to stay relevant during the late 1980's because everyone else was into other styles of music. I've seen both bands and can easily see how they complement each other. Thanks for exploring this all.
I was young serving overseas when this came out, it was rocking, I understand, but we were too young to be square. 🪖🇬🇧
Ever since i saw American Psycho with Christian Bale i think of it when i hear Huey, especially this song. He was a Huey afficionodo, among other things haha
This band was popular when I was in high school! They do always put you in a good mood. Love the beat to the song. I am glad that you enjoyed this!
Huey was the king of really fun, well done pop hits in the 1980s!
I'll always be crushin' on Huey Lewis and the News!
Huey Lewis & the News have so much fun performing that you can't help but have fun along with them.
Hey Lewis is one of the best. I will always think of Back To The Future every time I hear them!
Huey and the boys with their energy, their brand of electric soul, vocals and musicianship! Them and The J. Gail's Band were on the same page!!
They're totally rocking out about being square.
So glad I got to see them in person!
Great song has a good beat and makes you move.
Love this band! Saw them in Tulsa in ‘93! Awesome!🤘🔥
Guys, I love your videos, I looooove Huey Lewis & the News, but the only thing I can say abiut this one is: OHMYGOD, GIRL, YOUR HAIR!!!!! 😲😲😲😲😲
Keep 'em coming 😀
Huey and the boys ROCK!!!! Great song!!
The horns backing him in this video are the Tower of Power horn section.
Something I will forever love about this song is that I was introduced to it as a kid because Sesame Street did a cover of it.
Saw Huey and The News in Concert. One of the Fun ones. Hip to be Square!!!
