All Star Fame now this is a cop that cares about traffic safety and not revenue and hopefully he’ll target more of aggressive/impatient drivers like the crv driver. He was probably going well over the speed limit like 15 mph or more over the speed limit.
Calm and collected but still stern and disciplined. Good kind cop and I like the bystanders who saw it go down checked to make sure he was good afterwards.
As long as you enjoy yourself I am not going to say anything bad about you. I will use that time to devote to cursing Jesus Christ the piece of human shit. The more you say about me,The more I say about him.Jesus Christ is human garbage. I'm working on several websites right now to help get the word out. Just Google Jesus Christ sucks single see some of my work
To all the people angry about a bike on the road- This guy was doing 30-32 mph in a 35 mph road in the right lane. How much faster did you want this guy to go?
I don't care how fast he rides, If he's going to ride in the road like that, I want him to pay his license, registration fees and be insured like everyone else on the road.
Your comment does not address the tailgater in this video unless your logic is that the tailgater would not have tailgated if the bicyclist was registered and insured while doing the speed limit.
100lessthanu you want him to take his non-motor transportation to the dvm and register it as a motor vehicle? does he need car insurance? should he get flood insurance too just in case he might piss himself for almost getting run over.
I got so happy when he said that. I get tailgated on a daily basis and the cops here witness it and do nothing about it. It's nice to see an officer stand up for the safety of others.
It's not as rare as you think. In any case, there's this amazing invention called changing lanes to pass. You'd do it for a bus. You can do it for a bicycle as soon as you grow up and get over the delusion that you shouldn't have to.
Doing 30-32 mph is difficult, but do-able to a reasonably fit cyclist with the right gear. Doing 30-32 mph for a long period of time is very hard. This guy looks like he always rides fast.
Tailgating is unacceptable and illegal, but tailgating a bicyclist or motorcyclist is down right criminal! You should be double fined or get your license revoked for a year or both.
Icewhatever, negative. He has every right to take the lane. I'm guessing you are one of those tail gating, close passing a-holes? Maybe iceman here is the driver that got the ticket.
Doug Gleason contrary to what you believe, the world is not a flat disk riding on a monstrous turtle, gravity pulls apples from the tree, the earth orbits around the sun, and America is not the eastern coast of India.
+Kevin Selagea lol! thats as close to instant justice as one can get!..glad to know you are okay...I don't know what "OP" means but glad you are safe just the same
+sailor7680 OP stands for Original Poster, meaning the one who posted the video (or thread on forums). At least there was a cop there when you needed it, they never seem to be when I see something stupid happen which sucks because I see stupid stuff all the time, lol.
tasios77 Thank-you so much for your response!,,I really appreciate it...and I know what ya mean about seeing stupid stuff all the time--lol! its crazy out there...take care and thanks again...
I always make sure I have enough room between myself and a cyclist. If someone were to hit me from behind the last thing I would want is to hit a person riding a bike or motorcycle.
was thinking that like i cycle a bit and i can avrg 30kms (aussie) not sure what that is in miles but i know 30mph is about 40-45 so thats freaking awesome
When I'm behind a bike when driving I keep more distance between than I would a car. Heard too many people on bikes dying because of careless drivers that that idiot in the video, makes me more cautious.
Mrs. Vallejo holy shit a car driver with common sense you are a rarity bravo for having the common sense to stay back from cyclists and to give them room i hope you get stuck behind me when im riding my bike
i think so too, the first thing that comes into my mind is, that someone on a bike can easily fall over. how fast can you stop your car before driving over him. distance saves lives. EDIT: Ellie Petrova "Reading the description." not a youtube thing apparently.
Some do, if they are confused about the video at least ;) but i agree, on youtube it is not a thing to read the description until someone tells you to.
Why is everyone saying that he should have moved over, or that he shouldn't be allowed on the road because he's slowing traffic, that guy was pushing 31-32 in a 30MPH street. That car should calm down and wait for his chance to pass if he's in such a big hurry. If you're going 30 in a 30 it's not your job to go out of your way to move for some impatient asshole, they can wait to pass.
They're all butt-hurt that a car actually lost to a cyclist in a battle on the road. So they decided to claim a bunch of dumb made-up crap, just to say that I was in the wrong the entire time. Since they feel that cars are "entitled" to the road, when actually bicycles have been on the road longer than cars.
Kevin Selagea And also we can also use the full lane..If there are 2 more lanes over from me feel free to use one of those lanes and pass me simple as that. Cagers just get too butthurt on here I swear.
Kevin Selagea and whats funny is that on around 0:56 mark, the sign said 25 mph limit for a short until the end. so the tailgater could of just turned or moved to the second lane and none of this would of happen
***** You're going to have to prove that the speedometer is in kmh. It seems a bit unlikely since he passed two cars in the left lane going 20-30. If that was kmh, then the cars were doing less than 12-19 mph. But either way, that's no excuse for the other car to tailgate him. And that lane definitely isn't wide enough for a bike and a car at the same time.
I made a loud gobble sound at a bicyclist out my window once a couple years ago, dude went off the road into a ditch and fell off his bike, I still feel kinda about it.
For those of you guys saying this guy was being a jerk look closely at the speed limit at 0:56 and 1:18. The speed limit is 25 and the cyclist is going the speed limit if not slightly over to keep up with flow of traffic. This ticket on the dude tailgating is absolutely warranted.
@@richardkandalec4128 : You're an ass! I guess you'd argue that the fact of the asshole riding the cycler's ass with his car had nothing to do with his peddling his legs off whatsoever at all. @2:45: I don't doubt either of them. Why do you, hmm...? ???
Cyclist are allowed on the road. If they are obeying the rules, then you, the driver, need to be responsible. So everyone in this comment section, calm your ham
thenthapple and when the fuck do you see one obeying The rules. Out here on narrow country roads they ride 3-4 abreast and end up eating rocks fresh from my back wheels.
Actually BIG DRAGON, laws regarding whether or not cyclists can ride abreast vary depending on country and state/territory; in some places, riding abreast on those narrow single roads is actually encouraged so you don't get collected by a driver trying to squeeze past when it's not safe.
Just met this same officer today! My car ran out of gas and he helped me go to gas station! Awesome guy! It makes you appreciate the good in the world. Thanks Officer Sam for turning a bad situation into a day I won't forget. There is good in the world and it starts with all of us.
A biker can't pedal faster than the driver of a car can press his pedal harder. Bikers are required to ride on the street and drivers have to go slower if they get caught behind them. What can a biker really do besides pedal faster? If he's already pedaling as fast as he can and is required to ride in the street? Score for the biker and the cop. The guy was wrong to tailgate a GUY ON A BICYCLE. No contest.
I can't agree with anymore than I am right now. All of these commenters saying that I was the one at fault for "speeding up to block him", "I shouldn't have been riding in the middle of the lane" are just extremely annoying. Mainly because they don't know exactly what happened and why. So they don't know what they're talking about most of the time, yet they just wanna accuse me for something. But you seem to understand it without an issue, and for that I say thank you. :)
Let me get this straight. A cop was tailgating you and that forced you to tailgate someone else. WTF? That is not the smartest thing I have ever read online. "Officer, I had to break the law because someone behind me was breaking the law." Did you get a ticket? Did you use the same excuse to the judge in court? When tailgated, slow down, move over into the right lane (if possible) and pull over to let the guy pass. That is all you had to do. I got pulled over for tailgating a state police car! LOL. I was a STUPID teenager and the cop just gave me a warning. He let me off with a warning because I was courteous and didn't give him any crap. Later when I was old enough to know better, I got a ticket for tailgating a guy in a small town. I was late for a business meeting and I was tailgating. The cop saw it and pulled me over. He was right to do so and I told him so. I later visited the cop in his office (he was the police chief actually) and he agreed to reduce the fine. He didn't have to do that but I didn't try to lie, argue, or be an ass to him. I thanked him and wished him well and I think well of him now.
Anyone who says bikes aren't cars has never cycled. as soon as you do you realize you can't get around safely without using the road. also, anyone who has biked on a path or sidewalk knows that people are actually in greater danger in this situation (especially on a sidewalk). I've run into people on bike paths because people just don't pay attention no matter where you go, so you might as well cycle with traffic.
been riding my bike for years as my main mode of transportation. ive been in the most danger on the road then on the sidewalk. having cars that outweight me by 3000lbs driving within inches of me just doesnt compare to anything that can happen on a sidewalk. ive never been in an accident or even close to hurting anyone either.
***** so you friends aren't very aware of their surroundings then? several friends? also who stops riding on the sidewalk and goes on to the road without making sure no cars are coming up on you.
Best cop I've seen in almost four decades of driving... personal and professional...he could teach a lot of his brethren and the general public some great lessons. Kudos to ya and God bless.
Minel Fazlic He was taking up the entire lane and despite his ability to cycle at a fast top speed his acceleration is much slower than that of the cars that have to drive behind him because he takes up an entire lane the entire time he's on the road. That's something to get irritated/mad about. When I rode bikes, I never was so bullish or snobby.
Killer2600 Of course he was taking up an entire lane. So were all the vehicles in the video. The lanes on this street are not wide enough for a car to pass a bike within a lane. The tailgater should simply have changed lanes and passed the cyclist in the other lane. Vehicles have different rates of acceleration. That's true of different motor vehicles as well bicycles. It's certainly no reason to get mad or irritated.
Paul Kennedy A bicycle is not a motor vehicle and even motorcyclists share lanes with cars so why can't bicyclists? As for space for both a bicycle and a car in the same lane, we are seeing the same preview pic aren't we? The one with the suv pulled over, the cop walking up beside it, and the bicycle passing them both riding near dead on the dotted line? And you say a bicycle wouldn't fit? And I should be mad, cyclists like that make the rest of them look bad and I used to be an avid bicycle rider. When I rode I knew what it meant to share the road and have respect, courtesy, responsibility for other road users. I was even appreciative of the fact that I got free use of the road while they had to pay licensing and tax to use it. So yeah I should be mad when they can't reciprocate good will because they are too busy being self-centered, high, and mighty. In parts of asia, bicycles are still the dominant mode of transportation and even they share the road better.
Killer2600 Nobody said a bicycle is a motor vehicle. I don't know why you mention it. When the cyclist is passing the police officer and the car he is riding at 3 mph. At that speed it is perfectly possible and perfectly safe (although he will need to have checked that the neighboring lane is free, because he is actially on that side of the dotted line). At 30 mph the lanes are not wide enough for vehicles side by side. That's why lanes on a street are wider than in a parking lot, why lanes on a main road are wider than that, and why freeway lanes are wider still. But you don't have to be a traffic engineer; commonsense will tell you that.
Paul Kennedy What makes you think it's not wide enough? Do roads narrow as speed increases to 30 mph? Yes, no one said a bike is a motor vehicle but I'm saying a road is for motor vehicles, hence why wheel chairs, segway's, and pedestrians are forbidden from walking/rolling down the middle of the street vs being on the side walk or off to the side in the cases where there is no sidewalk. Common sense would tell you bikes don't belong in the middle of the road where cars are.
disinfor Thanks man. Now I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who gets tailgated, while sprinting down Lawrence in the bike lane. It's as if the Drivers think that they're allowed to drive in the bike lane, so that they can cut through traffic. It's even worse on Elston going south, especially during rush hour. Ride safe man.
Kevin Selagea Ha! You don't have to tell me about Elston. That was my main commute route from Aug. 2009 to Jan 2015. Pulaski-ish to Milwaukee (and back) every work day. If you rode with any frequency during the 9-5 commute during those years, we probably saw each other.
+TheWitchOvAgnesi Done both of those as well. Halsted gets nuts around Chicago. Lasalle isn't too bad until you get south of Chicago. Stay safe out there!
Kevin Selagea .no I always have looked after you bicyclist. And motorcycles. . We all share road. I know my pickup truck can hurt you guys..I never would do that! Ride safe...ps..that police officer was cool to do that for you.
John Wahan Sorry I didn't mean you specifically. I mean people who are ignorant, but thanks for looking after us bicyclists and motorcycles..I will. Thanks. Yeah that officer was awesome :)
Hey if anyone is looking to buy a Honda Accord, or any car for that matter, then check out The Daily Driver. It's a new youtube channel that specifically test drives all of the cars to show you guys how the car is before you go and test drive it yourself. Here's the links to the channels new videos, and to the channel itself. If you guys have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to say them. I love the exchange between you and the cop! really great to see an example of a good guy cop , "My name is Kevin by the way," "Nice to meet you," stand up guy honestly!
The speed the bike can go is irrelevant anyway but he wasn't riding as fast as the cars, he was in front of it forcing the car to drive at his speed. The issue here is that roads were designed for fast moving vehicle and even if the law permits cyclists on the road, only a brain dead person that has no value for their life would voluntarily ride with vehicles.
It's born from the fact that most cyclists think they can have their cake and eat it too. They need to either be designated as a pedestrian or a motorist. Instead they choose whichever label suits them at the time. They won't follow basic traffic laws like stopping at red lights or stop signs, but then they'll expect to be able to ride in the middle of a road or get special protection from tailgaters like in this video. EDIT: Forgot to mention that while they claim the right to travel the roads like a motorist, they won't register their "vehicles".
Bicycles do not "choose whatever label suits them." What you are describing is the consequence of federal guidelines for how bicycles are integrated into the system. They are classified as vehicles, and thus required to behave like cars, but they don't work like cars. There is *literally* no way to avoid this. A great deal of the "bad behavior" you are observing could be better described as bad street design. The crappy street design is also municipalities following state regulations, which in turn must comply with federal guidelines.
There needs to be more bike lanes. I have seen some cyclist taking on roads with speed limits of 35 and better only going 10 to 15. That is bullshit and they should not be on the road taking up an entire lane and impeding traffic. If mopeds aren't allowed on highways because of their lack of speed capability then cyclist should be restricted the same way on roads where they aren't able to maintain at least 80% of the speed limit.
Jerry Nepon-Sixt Very true, but you can't deny cyclists should at least be respectful and let people go around in an area where speed limits go from 40 and up IF the lanes are wide enough. I always let cyclists go first when i drive 'cause i know how most people treat them. I used to ride with my grandpa when i was little so i know what it feels like to get cut off when on a bike. The roads are just built on respect for one another.
Brandon Harrison : Most lanes are not wide enough. The one in the video isn't even close. It's 10 feet at most. 7 foot wide car plus 2.5 foot wide bicyclist plus 3 foot minimum passing distance plus a little buffer space on either side means at least 15 feet is needed.
"Cyclist here." I don't believe you. If you were a cyclist, you'd recognize that being as far to the right as safe would have made zero difference in this case.
Stationary bikes don't count, dude. People that ride bikes that move know that he was in the safest spot for those conditions. Also, 30 mph for that long gets mad props from my fat, sluggishly pedaling ass.
What? The cyclist has explained there was debris and potholes further right, doing so would have damaged his bike. You can tell at times he stays a little left but well within the lane. He did absolutely nothing wrong. He was also going the speed limit, and at times 3+ over the limit, and was also in the slow/right lane. The car had zero reason to tail gate him. If you were a real cyclist you would understand that you SHARE THE ROAD.
My best buddy died because of a careless driver on the road ,though he was on a motorcycle, a bicycle is no different less the motor. ride safe man, dude got what he deserves. Fat ticket I would think..
Not everyone who drives is nuts, but your statement is nuts. I have to say though, I'd be scared to death to road bike in USA, the texting drivers are the worst and there are road ragers who hate everyone and would love to kill a road biker.
I have spent some time in India so your powers of judgment need some tweaking. LOL. My GF lives in Indonesia and her videos are pretty telling..........I warn her about riding the motorbike taxis but to no avail. I wouldn't ride a motorbike or bicycle in India or Indonesia either. From what I know of those places, your "Mad Max" comparison is accurate and life is very cheap.
Not everyone who wants to hit a cyclist is a road rager, just people who have their mind blown at some idiot riding their bike in the street 5-10mph in a 30mph street filled with traffic and believe in karma.
When people get behind the wheel of an automobile their true personality comes out, just like when a person gets drunk, they reveal their true self. Tailgating is a serious problem everywhere, doesn't make any difference what lane you are in or how fast you are moving, some idiot will ride your ass. I applaud the police officer for passing out a ticket to the game to that fine outstanding citizen, more police should do just that. Many years ago I owned a large Ford pickup, it was built without a rear bumper and had no spare tire hanging underneath, these items were in short supply for some reason. A Honda kept running up behind me very fast and then slow down and then do it again, that thing sat a bit lower than normal. The last time he did it I had to stop for a traffic light, he couldn't stop in time, ran up under my truck, the frame rails caught on the hood and fenders and opened it up like a can of sardines. The police came and took a look and passed out tickets to the Honda driver to attend the next court session. When I drove off his now customized car the entire front end fell off, cop thought it was funny, gave him another ticket for littering the street.
I had a different situation. I was driving down the road and there was a bicycle to my right going really slow so I moved to the left lane to pass him, stopped at a stop sign and proceeded to continue, noticed a police car up ahead and the officer started waving at me to pull over. I slowed down and he told me to keep going. It turned out that the bicycle ran the stop sign and the police caught him.
Good. I can deal with bikes, but when they ride around thinking the rules of the road don't apply to them, that's when i get annoyed. I live in a college town and students (both walking and riding) pay Zero attention to cars, stop lights/signs or crosswalks.
Actually it’s not rare most cops are great, it’s the liberal media that makes it seem like all cops are killers and bad people when in fact most are awesome.
NO EXCUSE FOR TAILGATE HE WAS GOING 32 ON A 30 AND 30 ON A 25. OVER THE SPRED LIMIT HE WAS GOING FAAAAST. I wish I had that power whilst riding a bicycle.
Just takes a few months of training. I went from a nothing cyclist to averaging 33+km/h over 90km (>20mph over 60 miles) during a half ironman in less than a year. That was a hilly one too, would have been over 35km/h on a flatter course.
Kevin Selagea oh okay. I ride in a rural area so the traffic isn't much so i usually take the side of the road, hence why i was confused Safe Riding!!!
Van Wilder There's no bike lane here, and the lane is so narrow that riding off to the side is far and away more dangerous than riding in the middle of the lane, statistically.
So the cop backs you up. Could maybe use your video. Definitely wants to add your name to the report he's making to (too rarely?) protect the interests of cyclists. ...and you just tell him "Kevin. Pleased to meetcha". And then book outta there. No last name. No contact info to be a witness if need be. Bravo. Slow clap and no points for you.
Actually you got must of that wrong. For starters. I actually said "Thank you. My name is Kevin by the way." Second of all. I did go to the station, after my ride, to give them the info that they need and all that. I was not gonna do all of that in front of the guy, and on camera, and I showed them the video. so I didn't just book it. If you listened to what was said, I was actually free to go. So why would I stay, if he didn't need me?
Okay, you went to the station later. Maybe you even mentioned that on the video. Maybe not. But I reacted based on what I saw (or noticed) on the actual video. And oooh, ok I paraphrased your flyby comment. I didn't mischaracterize it. Didn't want to be seen by the guy? shrugs. Didn't want to be "on camera"? Interesting, since you were shooting. Cop was on your camera. And you could've looped around and waited behind cop car. Not on cop's dash cam and hard for dude to see.
He was filling out report then. Could use both statements, acquired simultaneously, as part of that. Later...at station...not as good. And...YOU gave the cop a promo and raise? What does that even mean? Discounting the you...even just " and as a result of this particular ticket transaction... The officer received a promotion and a raise... From his superiors, not from you... Still dubious. On cop shows they sometimes say the got a promotion for breaking a big case. I don't know about that. But just for ticketing 1 driver for careless driving? Very doubtful. Unless maybe there was a body or two or 10 pounds of heroin or both in the trunk and he found it
That’s very unsafe driving man. I’m glad the cop was there to stop the guy in the Honda and give him a ticket. Glad you’re ok man. Ride safe! I wanna know how the construction workers knew lol
I personally beileve that bikes shouldn't be on busy roads. this is a little different since he is able to keep up with traffic but when normal people are riding there bike at like 10 mph on a busy road that causes trouble. This guy in the honda was a idiot though, putting someone else in danger.
+DriftTek There's this myth that the Speed Limit is for some reason a Speed Minimum. Bikes are vehicles just as cars are, and have a right to the roadways to get from Point A to Point B just as any car does. The only restrictions on that are limited access freeways where bicycles are prohibited. Otherwise, they're no different than any other vehicle on the road. Especially a roadway like this, with two lanes going in the same direction, you just wait until you can change over to the left lane and pass safely, just as you would behind a slow moving car.
Yeah I agree, I just believe there needs to be bike lanes. I've seen so many people riding bikes going like 10 on a busy road where you can't pass them.
Yeah, so the problem is less the cyclists than it is the poor infrastructure. I'd encourage petitioning your city council and other local authorities to stripe more bike lanes. The city where I live, we had a very vocal push to get our city to do this. As a result, cycling increased substantially, car traffic was reduced, and car vs. bike collisions actually went down.
+noodles91380 You do realize that you can't go too far under the limit, right? Driving at more than 10 mph below the speed limit is grounds for a ticket.
That's why they have bike lanes. But idiots think that anyone can ride on the road, they don't understand that it applies to people who ride for sport, not leisure.
5,000,000 views!! Thank you guys so much for making this video the way it is now. I'm really grateful that it got to where it did today. Thank you guys so much!
To many people are in a rush... Really wish I could see someone get pulled over for being a reckless driver... Watching this felt good knowing that someone cares.
Good job,I never get people tailgating me since I live in a rural area but I constantly get people passing me dangerously close at high speeds 60+mph within 6-12 inches from my handlebar (normally the same cars every time) and there's never a policeman around.
Everyone is crying about a bicyclist not paying insurance or following driving rules. Ahem, most people on the road don’t follow the rules. And far too many don’t even have insurance. Pipe down. The cop did good. That’s a man’s life no matter how you look at it.
haha. l love it. The drive tells the cops "he doesn't care". Not a good idea. I love that cop. Would love to buy him lunch and a few beers. Keep up the good work, and behaving like a decent human being.
Yeah, that's about the most wrong thing a driver can say. "I don't care". Judging from some of the comments here, they are invading the rest of us. They just do not get how life works, which is sad, really.
I always give bikers respect and plenty of space. They are at a disadvantage having just two wheels. They have just as much rights as any other motor vehicle.
in your previous video you was speeding and went through a red light !!!!! your so eager to have the policeman give him a ticket and its alright for you to break the law. lmao EPIC !!!!!!
35mph bicycle sprint at 4 mins theres a 30 sign he then gets up to 35mph in a 30 zone. at 5.04 he goes through a red light then in this video he is keen to get the other driver a ticket. he speeds up not to let the car by then slows down to piss him off when he is level with the other car. the car then swaps lanes which the police car is sat behind the biker and he thought he was going to get pulled. bikers lmao ride safe.
Is it legal in your country to ride on the middle of the road with bicycle? I am asking because in my country it is illegal, you must let cars to pass you by driving on the right side of the road.
+kevin hartley It is not unethical. I live in a state in the DC-Metro region. Where the state legislature recently put it in law. That a cyclist may 'take the lane'. I 'take the lane', ALL THE TIME. Because, I had too many close calls of drivers speeding by me. When I 'hugged the curb'. By my 'taking the lane', motorists' have to pass me, just like another motorist. The 'close pass' law in my state is three feet. Instead of hoping a motorist will obey that. I use the three feet to the curb, as a 'fallback zone', if a motorist unnerves me. I won't let a motorist turn me into 'collateral damage'. On account of them not wanting to wait until it is safer to pass.
I have been known to have a problem with cyclists at times in the roadways admittedly. But in this case this cyclist was clearly not blocking traffic in any way. As a matter of fact, he was actually exceeding the speed limit by 5 to 7 miles per hour (which is okay of course as most people honestly do). I think the officer was fantastic for paying attention to the safety of a cyclist. Had the officer not been there this could have turned out to be quite a bad situation. Whoever this guy is, I'm glad he had a camera. And well done officer.
You seem to have a very healthy attitude. Most people online choose a side and defend it to the extreme. I do disagree with you on the speed limits. Just because everyone does it, it doesn't mean it is ok. I don't mind people speeding on highways, but it is extremely selfish and irresponsible to speed in urban areas, specially in areas with many pedestrians.
Life is Awesome, can you honestly say that you have never accidentally exceeded the speed limit due to the flow of traffic? I think not. All I was saying is that everyone slips now and then. I'm just being honest and realistic. Thanks for the compliment on my attitude. I try to keep an open mind
I cannot say that. In fact I used to purposely speed. I would always set my cruise control 5mph-10mph above the speed limit, except in school zones and 25mph residential zones. But as I grew older and thought about it more carefully, I started thinking that just because most people do it it doesn't mean its ok. More than 3400 people die everyday worldwide from car accidents. That is about one every 30 seconds. In most countries, including the US and Canada, car accidents are the main cause of death for people between 5 and 40 years old. And half the people who die were not driving. Speeding cars are endangering other people's lives just to get to the next traffic light a few seconds sooner.
@Bike-Riding Motorist It was a bit of both because he was riding my rear tyre very closely for a while. Also, he did tell the cop that he didn't care about how close he was to me, when the cop pulled him over. So in a way it's both...Sorry I wasn't able to reply to your comment directly.
What kind of idiot do you have to be to say something like that to an Officer when you were just caught doing something extraordinarily reckless? That driver deserves to have his/her license confiscated. I'm glad you got out of that unharmed, drivers and people in general today are so ignorant and disrespectful.
The Village of Skokie in IL. Was going to ask how far it was from Springfield, thinking of moving there, but I looked it up. Saw the sign at the end that said Skokie Village Hall ;p. It looks nice there.
These are the kind of cops that would be mt hero's we need more cops like this man its when thing to say you care he showed he cared and did something about it
Attention to all the loud mouths bike are not allowed on side walks and have the same rights as a vehicle... as far as that goes you can get cited for reckless driving as they consider that in some states
MrCarzyboy21 Did you idiots take a riding school or go take your riding license? Can your bike ride at a constant 30 mph (or more)? Does your bike have turn signals and a horn? Does your bike have insurance coverages?
***** the edge of the road is not always solid, so the minimum width is fine for a car but the bike needs to stay on a more stable surface. The law saw practicable not practical.
I still remember when I was a kid, if I rode my bike in the street my parents would have whooped the fuck out of me. It's for cars, unless there is a MARKED bike lane. Keep that shit on the sidewalk/bike paths where it belongs. Dude's still a dick and got what he deserved, though. Go around him...not that difficult in a car.
That's because your were a KID with a tricycle that probably wasn't going faster than 5mph. Wouldn't you think the cop would've given the bicyclist a ticket if he wasn't allowed to bike in the streets?
My point was that I rode a bike.....as a kid. Now I have big boy pants, I drive a car. (joke, get over it) Also, if you can't bike at least 5mph OVER the speed limit on the street you're on, without a bike lane, you're holding up traffic. ANameThatIsn'tMyOwn Yeah. American thing, I'm guessing. I don't know much about how the roads are over there, but where I live there's marked bike lanes and signs for bikes.
I don't know about the US, but here bikes follow the same rules as any other vehicle whilst on the road. I'm pretty sure it's the same though. At least in some states.
bicycle riders need to stay close to the side of the damn road. they drive too slow and they are too wobbly going left and right too much that it's very difficult and dangerous to pass them. I don't mind sharing the road with them, but when they are selfish and inconsiderate of other drivers that want to actually do the speed limit, and not go 15mpg up a hill.
Of course, i've never tailgated a bicycle rider, i do not condone the guy driving the honda, but still, it can be rage inducing to have a selfish guy on a bicycle slow down traffic.
Scott Kazan But...but he was going 25-30 in a 30 MPH zone? (pause at 0:30 to see a sign.) How was he selfish and slowing down traffic if he was going the speed limit?
The speed limit on the street is only 30 on this street I drive down it a lot and there are tons of students biking from the high school where the video started
Matthew Rorie he was huffing and puffing and very strenuously peddling just to maintain the speed limit. maybe not this particular bicycle rider did anything wrong, but most bicycle riders are barely even 5 mph within the speed limit.
The fact that he's able to keep up with traffic on a bike is impressive. I'm glad that officer did right by him. That was ridiculous! I keep my distance behind bikes. If they go slow, I turn my hazards on and creep a safe distance behind them because of drivers like Mr. CRV... Bicycles are traffic too!
@@lifeisawesome1391 He was forced to go faster because of that idiot driver was right on his butt! The police officer noticed that and that is why he didn't get ticketed.
I couldn't because there was too much debris and potholes on the side I would've pulled to, and I was going faster than traffic so there wasn't any reason for me to do it at the time. I would've flipped over and ended up in the hospital, if I pulled over.
And even if he had been able to pull over, his speedo clearly shows a speed between 25-32 mph for most of the video. I don't know what the speed limit is on this road but he seems to be keeping up with traffic. Plus, there's a whole lane to the left the guy could have used to overtake. :)
Greatest thing I've ever heard a Police officer say:
"I want you to know I care."
I just want to give him an award for that.

He is. agreed!
What an awesome cop.
Yeah he was amazing
If this would have been new York the cop would have strangled the bike driver for some reason.
Actually there to protect and serve. Great to see this.
'To Protect and Serve.' This officer is doing it right. Excellent job sir!
All Star Fame now this is a cop that cares about traffic safety and not revenue and hopefully he’ll target more of aggressive/impatient drivers like the crv driver. He was probably going well over the speed limit like 15 mph or more over the speed limit.

To all the people angry about a bike on the road- This guy was doing 30-32 mph in a 35 mph road in the right lane. How much faster did you want this guy to go?
Hell, it wasn't even a 35 MPH zone, it was a 30 and later went down to a 25
I don't care how fast he rides, If he's going to ride in the road like that, I want him to pay his license, registration fees and be insured like everyone else on the road.
Your comment does not address the tailgater in this video unless your logic is that the tailgater would not have tailgated if the bicyclist was registered and insured while doing the speed limit.
100lessthanu That's the dumbest shit I've read all day.
100lessthanu you want him to take his non-motor transportation to the dvm and register it as a motor vehicle? does he need car insurance? should he get flood insurance too just in case he might piss himself for almost getting run over.
those are awesome cops..."want me to do something about it?"
karma
Justin Time I loved that part
I got so happy when he said that. I get tailgated on a daily basis and the cops here witness it and do nothing about it. It's nice to see an officer stand up for the safety of others.
Hit me up on roblox HxzDEV
DinoRaf RBLX That last bit, “I care”. :)
The bicycle was incorrect.
“Want you to know, I care!”
That was super nice of the officer to say ☺️
What a good guy 👍🏽
Although being stuck behind a bike can be annoying, tailgating any sort of bike is inexcusably dangerous and imbecilic.
How often are you really "stuck" behind a bicycle for more than a few seconds though? In my experience, that's extremely rare.
How often do you see a bike that can reach 30 mph? Pretty rare. Might as well stay behind it from a distance if he's going the limit...
It's not as rare as you think. In any case, there's this amazing invention called changing lanes to pass. You'd do it for a bus. You can do it for a bicycle as soon as you grow up and get over the delusion that you shouldn't have to.
You can do something called merge into the other lane.
Yeah small minded morons feel pretty powerful inside their machines
Props to dude for 32 MPH on the flat!
That's what I was looking at. Couldn't tell if it was mph or kph.
Doing 30-32 mph is difficult, but do-able to a reasonably fit cyclist with the right gear. Doing 30-32 mph for a long period of time is very hard. This guy looks like he always rides fast.
That cop is great.
He is :)
Tailgating is unacceptable and illegal, but tailgating a bicyclist or motorcyclist is down right criminal! You should be double fined or get your license revoked for a year or both.
Maybe you could just keep your silly little toy over to the right and out of the way.
cyclists ride with their legs, and all you do is step on the gas pedal of your riced ass fartcanned honda civic. fuck outta here dipshit
Icewhatever, negative. He has every right to take the lane. I'm guessing you are one of those tail gating, close passing a-holes?

Thanks!
Gotta point out...you are very fast on your bike.
If you got a speeding ticket, would you frame it?
Hell yeah I would!
At least no one is pretending to give a shit about safety or the law in this video.
+CowboydjRobot well, the cyclist and the cop do.
was thinking that like i cycle a bit and i can avrg 30kms (aussie) not sure what that is in miles but i know 30mph is about 40-45 so thats freaking awesome

***** Nah it was mph. He said he maxes out at about 35 mph.

The cyclist hit 32 mph. Speeding.

Lol, you made that story up but nice try.

I didn't realize police gave a shit about tailgating.
I can assure you, they do.
pfft mine doesnt even care about tailgating at all...
I've seen many police purposefully tailgate me to get me to speed up so they can give me a ticket. Anyone else have the same thing done to them?
I would slow down for them then
Let me get this straight. A cop was tailgating you and that forced you to tailgate someone else. WTF?
That is not the smartest thing I have ever read online. "Officer, I had to break the law because someone behind me was breaking the law."
Did you get a ticket?
Corey Burns I'm guessing you don't frequently ride above 20mph. Because if you did, you'd probably be dead by now.
"Anyone who says bikes aren't cars has never cycled"
Actually, anyone who says bikes aren't cars know what a bike is and know what a car is.
***** so you friends aren't very aware of their surroundings then? several friends? also who stops riding on the sidewalk and goes on to the road without making sure no cars are coming up on you.
Matt in the Crown thats right, I dont bike that fast. im not talking about road bikers who go much faster than I do.
Best cop I've seen in almost four decades of driving... personal and professional...he could teach a lot of his brethren and the general public some great lessons. Kudos to ya and God bless.
The bicyclist was riding the speed limit there is no reason to get mad.
Hey buddy. Glad to hear that you didn't get hit, may I ask what state this occurred in? Thanks :)

disinfor Thanks man.
If you rode with any frequency during the 9-5 commute during those years, we probably saw each other.
disinfor Oh wow lol Then I think we did see each other because I did ride frequently during 9-5.
+Kevin Selagea Pffft try Halsted or Lasalle, it's even worse. Luckily I had an 11-7 schedule. Would never have survived on the 9-5 rush.
+TheWitchOvAgnesi Done both of those as well. Halsted gets nuts around Chicago. Lasalle isn't too bad until you get south of Chicago. Stay safe out there!

These people complaining about a cyclist on the road when he was going as fast as the cars were.
Is a bike allowed on the highway if it can go the min speed at 45mph?
@@robertwadas If you stay on the shoulder probably, this was 5 years ago and I don't even remember watching this video
@@robertwadas Technically yes, not advised though. But speed minimums don't apply on shoulders so bicycles can use freeways that way
The speed the bike can go is irrelevant anyway but he wasn't riding as fast as the cars, he was in front of it forcing the car to drive at his speed. The issue here is that roads were designed for fast moving vehicle and even if the law permits cyclists on the road, only a brain dead person that has no value for their life would voluntarily ride with vehicles.
What a genuinely awesome police officer. Glad it ended well.
Yeah he's awesome. I'm glad it ended well too. :)

This is so good I’m saving this to the collection of great moments
Wow, so much bicycle hate in the comments. It's a shame.
If mopeds aren't allowed on highways because of their lack of speed capability then cyclist should be restricted the same way on roads where they aren't able to maintain at least 80% of the speed limit.
robert perry true but a lot of things that don't make sense are allowed. That is the way of the world.
Can't argue with you about that.
***** I don't mind them either I just think it would be smarter and safer to have more bike lanes.
Cyclist here.
Don't take up an entire lane and you'll be fine. Get to the damn right.
"Cyclist here."
I don't believe you.
Where was the room for him to ride on the right side of lane?
You sir, are not a cyclist. There was an empty lane to the left where the car could have passed the cyclist at any time.
My best buddy died because of a careless driver on the road ,though he was on a motorcycle, a bicycle is no different less the motor. ride safe man, dude got what he deserves. Fat ticket I would think..
Please accept my deepest condolences 😭
6100 people are tailgaters that need their license revoked.
Loved this cop. Perfection
I cycle to work 8 miles one way and I've been hit multiple times and tailed dozens, this warms my heart and I think this cop deserves a raise.
So you willing cycle on roads with fast moving vehicles and then complain about getting hit? Man talk about a smooth brain.
People who cycle in the US have serious balls. Everyone in the US that drives is insane
SuperCar Source you need to experience china and india. its like the apocalypse and doomsday had a baby!
I'm guessing you've never even been to the u.s.
It turned out that the bicycle ran the stop sign and the police caught him.
nice
Hehe I've ran so many stop signs I've lost count. Got caught once by an undercover cop once but he just gave me a warning.
Good. I can deal with bikes, but when they ride around thinking the rules of the road don't apply to them, that's when i get annoyed. I live in a college town and students (both walking and riding) pay Zero attention to cars, stop lights/signs or crosswalks.
A excellent cop that is rare these days.
Actually it’s not rare most cops are great, it’s the liberal media that makes it seem like all cops are killers and bad people when in fact most are awesome.
Trevor Phillips no most cops are racist
@@no-hi2mr ... no
@@garji2477 holy shit I was the fucking retarted a year ago. Dont worry man my mind has completely changed outta that BLM bullshit
Respect to that officer
I like the part where the officer says he'll put the cammer's name on the ticket!!! LOL! Nice touch!!!
wow....the driver says "I don't care"....how pathetic and disgusting.
The psychological term is called "projection".
WHAT? where are they supose to be? Underwater?
I thought I heard, "I don't care". I said outloud, did that MF just tell him he doesn't care?
None Ya no he said I just want you to know I care. and the biker said thank you.
cop should have shot the tailgaters tires out then gave them a huge ticket!😊
NO EXCUSE FOR TAILGATE HE WAS GOING 32 ON A 30 AND 30 ON A 25.
OVER THE SPRED LIMIT
HE WAS GOING FAAAAST.
I wish I had that power whilst riding a bicycle.
Vyanna McIntyre he had to go over the speed limit a little so he doesn't get thrown under the bus.
Over the spred limit?
renohuskerdu lol,I didn't notice that until now 🤣
Agreed, never an excuse to tailgate, but this dude was able to keep up with traffic!
Just takes a few months of training. I went from a nothing cyclist to averaging 33+km/h over 90km (>20mph over 60 miles) during a half ironman in less than a year. That was a hilly one too, would have been over 35km/h on a flatter course.
my questions is , as a cyclist, why are you riding in the middle of the lane?
the lane was too narrow for me to ride on the side
www.bikeshophub.com/blog/2008/03/18/top-5-reasons-to-claim-the-lane-and-why-its-safer/
Kevin Selagea oh okay. I ride in a rural area so the traffic isn't much so i usually take the side of the road, hence why i was confused Safe Riding!!!
***** riding next to the sidewalk is the safest place or if the road has a bike lane, they should use that.
Van Wilder There's no bike lane here, and the lane is so narrow that riding off to the side is far and away more dangerous than riding in the middle of the lane, statistically.
dammit boy that cop is doing his duty... thank you for what your doing for the community
Oh and another thing to add to that, is that I gave the officer a promotion and a raise.
+Kevin Selagea "My name is Kevin by the way"
Next line off camera was "want to join me for a drink at the Blue Oyster Bar tonight"?
Man this guy was flying. Props to you, I could never bike that fast.
I was thinking that, and wondering how long I could keep going that fast before having a heart attack or stroke.
That was like the best snappy conversation with a cop I’ve ever seen.
That cop's the real MVP!
This is how police officers are supposed to act, nice to see.
most do, but it’s the shitty ones who r ruining it for everyone
We need cops like him in Houston Texas. Kudos to that cop
Best part of this video was you keeping up with the posted speed limit.
Good to see that from a police officer.
5,000,000 views!! Thank you guys so much for making this video the way it is now. I'm really grateful that it got to where it did today. Thank you guys so much!
1) Cool cop
2) People watch cause they deal with Way too many of these drivers
Keep staying safe out there (:
+Kevin Silage Thanks officer, good job! A public servant who actually serves the public!
+Kevin Selagea Thank you Kevin for showing a normal, good-hearted cop. These days, the good PR is MUCH needed....
careless drivers dont know how risky ur life is when u ride a motorcycle ....
+Kevin Selagea do you get paid from it? just curious
He tells the Cop he has it on Camera, but he doesn't.
"I want you to know I care" what a spectacular policeman 👏👏👏
haha.
They just do not get how life works, which is sad, really.
that broklen accent makes him sound 100% cooler
I always give bikers respect and plenty of space. They are at a disadvantage having just two wheels. They have just as much rights as any other motor vehicle.
in your previous video you was speeding and went through a red light !!!!! your so eager to have the policeman give him a ticket and its alright for you to break the law. lmao EPIC !!!!!!
meanwhile, you speed while driving, hypocrite.
tiehut when did he say he speeds? and when did he absolve him self. Car or cyclist. obey the damn law.
kyle, YOU speed when you drive you car, idiot. you are a hypocrite too.
tiehut No you don't. And you're rearded.
I am asking because in my country it is illegal, you must let cars to pass you by driving on the right side of the road.
yeah its legal
+Linus Magnus its unethical but legal.
Its kinda sucks. Speed limit 30 miles and cyclist is blocking you :/
+kevin hartley It is not unethical.
+Linus Magnus If you think a cyclist is blocking you. Then you are downright lazy about passing safely.
Loved when the cop says loudly you don't care
Bet he did a little more after he got a ticket lmao
He said " I want you to know that I care" to the biker
+Irmak Kurt yes but the driver said 'he don't care' when the cop said why he pulled him over
I have been known to have a problem with cyclists at times in the roadways admittedly.
I love the bad cagers moaning about the bike, cop did good and that's always good to see.
Plot twist: The bicyclist goes out on a date with the cop 2 weeks later.
.......No........
It looks nice there.
djjbzombies it is pretty nice, but the downtown area is kinda meh. They are trying to fix it up and stuff but its gonna be awhile till that happens.
djjbzombies Skokie is a shithole. There are gangs there too. My brother lived there..
Depends on what side you live on.
The cyclist was doing nothing reckless. The cop stopped the car not the cyclist.
MrCarzyboy21 actually the bicyclist was speeding lol
MrCarzyboy21 Did you idiots take a riding school or go take your riding license? Can your bike ride at a constant 30 mph (or more)? Does your bike have turn signals and a horn? Does your bike have insurance coverages?
If the lane is too narrow, they do not have to stay to the right in the state he is in.
30 mph on a sidewalk is impossible. bikes are vehicles and get to ride in the road.
Guess you don't realize that many jurisdictions in the US DON'T allow cyclists to ride their bikes on sidewalks.
Wow, what an awesome cop!
Somebody buy that cop a beer. Well deserved!
bicycle riders need to stay close to the side of the damn road. they drive too slow and they are too wobbly going left and right too much that it's very difficult and dangerous to pass them.
Scott Kazan the biker was actually speeding.
The speed limit on the street is only 30 on this street I drive down it a lot and there are tons of students biking from the high school where the video started
Matthew Rorie he was huffing and puffing and very strenuously peddling just to maintain the speed limit. maybe not this particular bicycle rider did anything wrong, but most bicycle riders are barely even 5 mph within the speed limit.
cool cop. 'want me to do something about it?'
and damn dude, you were going fast man, why would a driver in a car be such an ass.
"I have a camera too" and it showed nothing but the guy being pulled over lol
Wow a police officer behaving like he should. Congrats
Cyclist should have gotten a ticket for speeding. First he was doing 32 on a 30 and then he was doing 28 on a 25.
Good for you.
@@lifeisawesome1391 He was forced to go faster because of that idiot driver was right on his butt! The police officer noticed that and that is why he didn't get ticketed.
Best cop out there 👍
wow that officer was amazing.
He was :)
Nice a cop doing his job properly.
I know that cyclists have a right to the road but... isn't there any chance you could just pull to the right hand side to make it easier to pass?
I couldn't because there was too much debris and potholes on the side I would've pulled to, and I was going faster than traffic so there wasn't any reason for me to do it at the time. I would've flipped over and ended up in the hospital, if I pulled over.
Kevin Selagea I see! Thanks for the reply!
Edwin L. Northern suburbs of Chicago.
robjapan you're welcome!
And even if he had been able to pull over, his speedo clearly shows a speed between 25-32 mph for most of the video. I don't know what the speed limit is on this road but he seems to be keeping up with traffic. Plus, there's a whole lane to the left the guy could have used to overtake. :)
