- 7 Years and $7,000 later, my ultimate Nautilus build is complete. (almost)
This is a Custom Replicas 66" Nautilus (Gen. 1) from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Thanks to Scott Brodeen, Jim Key, Mikel Sauve, Bob Martin, Brian Beavis, Will Babington, Steve Neill, Paul Paterson and others for their contributions.
This boat is controlled by a Futaba/Vantec 23 channel transmitter. There are 12 servos and lots of LED lighting. The model has custom Iris mechanisms with 4" LCD displays behind them. The helm turns in sync to the rudder. The main hatch slides and the breathers vents raise and lower. The propeller is solid brass cast. There are 5 sound clips that can be played including 'Whale of a Tale" song by Ned Land. The atomic counter ticks back and forth. The skiff hand tie down wheels work.The anchors lower and raise. The propeller is proportional controlled.
One of the most beautiful, believable and iconic of all of Disney's creations, and you have made a marvellous reproduction! I salute you, sir!
The Disney movie came out when I was about 7 years old. I convinced my dad to sit through it twice. I guess you can say I've had a 61 year love affair with the Nautilus. In all those years I've found only one model, a vacuum formed kit that wasn't much good. Until I saw your beautiful model I had no idea there was much interest in building her. Thank you for showing this incredible piece of workmanship. I just wish I had the talent and steady hands needed to build a masterpiece such as this. It's simply beautiful!! Thank you for showing it to those of us who have a real soft spot for the old lady. How about photographing her and creating a Flickr account and posting there. It's free and I would gladly be your first Follower.
Good grief, I as late to the party as I am completely in awe of this magnificent, astounding piece of work. A true labour of love indeed.

Simply beautiful. I'm an avid Nautilus collector. I currently own 7 different scaled replicas of the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Nautilus. I recently acquired a mint sealed 2005 Master Replicas Nautilus. I plan on doing an unboxing on it. My favorite one is the one I got from Tokyo Disney By The Sea theme park. All die-cast with lights and sound. Your piece is stunning and if you ever need to part with it I'm a loyal collector who's simply loves the Nautilus. 😁 Danoby / Las Vegas
ABSOLUTELY SUPERB JOB! The BEST I've seen. I had #2 of this kit, BOB would be proud of this! Surprised you did not do the interior Salon kit. I was a member of the Nautilus Drydocks group....but lost contact with Michael and the group. Would love to look at any site that they might still be on.
I can't say enough about your expert craftsmanship! Amazing. One thing I would like to point out, however. You should do another video of your project. Have someone else hold the camera for a much smoother approach. You handle only the remote. I was quite frustrated watching this because you were all over the place. I wanted to see every little detail smoothly and slowly. I hope you take this in the positive way it is intended.

Well, what can anyone say except, you sir along with your contributors have created the most beautiful scale rendering of this icon of a sci-fi sub that I grew up in awe of, and now at 57 find myself in awe of this incredible scale rendering. I congratulate you all, and thank you for sharing her with us all ! WOW, Just AMAZING!!!!

Crazy fabulous. Just built Scott's 16 inch resin version, and if that Trump money comes before the end of April, I'll take advantage of Masterpiece Models April sale and get their 31 inch. At least you have a spot for yours. I have no idea where.....jeez I hope Scott is still around....
