Rainy Days and Mondays Carpenters reaction music video. One of the most distinct voices in music belongs to Karen Carpenter.
This remarkable brother and sister duo, dominated the 80s with many easy listening huge hit songs.
Enjoy this reaction.

Karen always considered herself a drummer who sang, not a singer who drummed.
Magic at both
I feel that the Carpenters were a bit underappreciated in their day, but now a new generation is coming to appreciate them more without the hang ups of the "hip" crowd of the Carpenters' own time.
That's true. I'm 66 and when I was a teen they were famous. I thought "gee theyre so schmaltzy!" Oh the silliness of youth. Now I listen and marvel at her gorgeous voice, her boundless talent. Im truly sad we lost her her at such a young age.
When I was a teenager and was out cruising with my friends on a Saturday night, the Carpenters would come on the radio and we would all race to see who could change the station. We were just way too cool for the Carpenters. But when I was at home and they would come on the radio ,I would race to turn it up. I was a closet Carpenter fan. Years later, I found out that my friends were all closet Carpenter fans too.
You're right....
@@alicesmith7020 Haha...
You cant ignore pure talent. Karen had a gorgeous voice and a good drummer. And they were jazz musicians first before they went pop. So that helps.
As someone else in another reaction said. This was before autotune and her voice is so clear. So perfect, never an off note.
Nobody today would sing her songs without autotune and even with it they couldn't come close.
Pure perfection.
RIP, Karen. We still love you and will never forget you. People like Harri will keep your music alive.
🙏🏽✌🏾
Growing up, I was all rock and roll; however, when Karen's hauntingly beautiful voice came on the radio, I was mesmerized. Her voice just pierced your soul. It's something you can never forget. RIP my angel. 💚
EXACTLY the same here! I had to hide my appreciation of her from my hard rock-loving bandmates, I knew they'd never let me hear the end of it. I remember where I was when news of her death came over the radio. I pulled into a nearby parking lot and cried and cried... Honestly, no other musician's death affected me so profoundly.
Massive Carpenters fan here. Karen had the voice of an angel. Their career spanned from the 60s to the early 80s. They peaked in the early to mid 70s.
Greatest female singer of the modern music era. Impeccable pitch and a vulnerability in her voice that grabs your heart and never lets go. Great choice Hari, RNB
Rick N Backer, couldn't have said it better.
Thank you Rob. Karen was simply 1 of a kind. Best wishes, RNB
I got cancelled last month for making the statement she had a better voice than..... ready...... Joni Mitchell.
Wow sorry, Joni is not in her league.
Hey Gary, I know a couple die hard Joni fans and they are loyal as loyal can be. I doubt Miss Mitchell would even agree with that. As for being cancelled, in the name of Karen? Well Sir, I would wear that as a badge of honor.. Cheers RNB
One of the best voices of all time.Very pure
pure, rich, intimate, warm, moving, and the ultimate singer who sang TO YOU NOT AT YOU.... perfect diction and enunciation as well, better than any singer male or female i've ever heard...
In my opinion Karen > The most beautiful 💫female singing voice...ever. R🙏🏾P Karen 🌹 💕
I'll second that.
But you could try this one: ruclips.net/video/-4jXfMEu1YY/видео.html
"Superstar" by the Carpenters is always loved.
Absolutely!!
It's certainly my favorite.
Yes, please do a superstar reaction, and also For All We Know (from the 1974 Japan live shows)
My favorite. Karen at the top.
I'm 61 and I have never heard any other singer sound like Karen she was a truly unique talent. I lived through Punk/New Wave and my sister and Mother played the Carpenters which is how I knew of them and they were my secret listening.
Karen was a once in a generation voice, just a natural instrument and gift from God. She is still so missed. Thank goodness we have the music to always fall back on and remind us of how special she was. And Carpenters would not have achieved the success without Karen’s brother Richard who had an amazing ear for music and a natural talent for arranging and producing. You should check out these other hits by them “Superstar” and “Hurting Each Other”
The late Karen Carpenter RIP. She passed away a month before her 33rd birthday from a heart attack as a result of anorexia nervosa. So sad. Such a beautiful talent
Karens gorgeous dark contralto voice and Richards beautiful arrangements and background singing…unreal. ❤❤❤❤
Most viewers would not realize how difficult it is to play drums and sing at the same time. She is a fabulous drummer, and her voice is simply heavenly. Like hot chocolate. A unique talent who is sadly missed by millions of fans all over the world.
Her voice just has a different quality about it. Her tone and clarity is very unique for sure. Her lower register is where her voice shines for me.
Yes we try to put into words, but we do know the voice of an angel when we hear it. What are the words? They fail us when it comes to this woman. Totally fail us.
Many people consider "Superstar" her greatest vocal performance. She has such a clear, pure voice. And its so warm and cozy. Like if you are chilly and somebody puts a warm blanket over you.
My favourite Carpenters song.
I Know I Need To Be In Love is my fav vocal and it was hers
My dad introduced me to the Carpenters, and sadly he passed on a rainy Monday. I like to think he speaks to me through this song. I hope you enjoy your Carpenters journey!
Such a beautiful and haunting sentiment
A voice like pure golden honey from heaven.
I love The Carpenters so much . Of course We’ve Only Just Begun is the best. They have so many hits. I also love I Won’t Last A Day Without You. Looking forward to more Carpenters from you! ☺️
I love "One Take" Karen. She was always on point and perfect. Very few multiple takes in her career.
Funny how she never thought of herself as a singer. She was always the drummer of the group. It was Richard who insisted that she get out from behind the drums and front the group as the lead singer.
I have a hearing problem but never when listening to Karen Carpenter. Every word crystal clear.
That was the great Hal Blane of the Wrecking Crew playing drums on this recording. You have probably heard the Wrecking Crew more than you know.
I’m 55-years-old and grew up listening to the Carpenters. I love Karen’s voice and the harmony with her brother. She’s a one of a kind and was truly blessed with a one of a kind voice!!!
Love and light Harri! I tried. I listened to the intro, but had to stop when I heard her voice. I was a huge fan. Her death had a tremendous impact on my life; and in fact, probably saved it. You see, I was going through my own battles with body image and eating disorder. Her death from exactly what I was doing to myself changed everything. I'm healthy (ish lol) and happy. I'm 63 years old now. But the sound of that beautiful voice still breaks my heart. ❤️🙏😇 Always
Awww so sorry to hear that young lady😉..But i am happy to know you made it through.Really sad about Karen.I saw her story..so heartbreaking
Karen (and doubtless Richard too) would be happy that her story helped you turn around. You are far from the only one, I think. Even among celebrities, I know others have battled that demon...but I do not recall hearing of any other succumbing to it since Karen. It's just so sad that she did...Much love.
I can relate. Hope you are well.
I love you, Karen ❤️ Your talent was a special gift from God. Thank you, for leaving us with such beauty. 🥰💐
More Carpenters, please! Superstar is a must, also Close To You, We've Only Just Begun, For All We Know, oh so many more. Am sure others will have more suggestions. Thank you for reacting to this tragic angel.
I Need to be in Love is a favorite of mine.
Did she take herself a way from us? Relationship stuff?
@@badlieutenant3822 She suffered from anorexia due to a mean reviewer in the 70s calling her fat. Toward the end she was starting to change her eating habits, but her self-starvation had already taken its toll on her body. She died on February 4th, 1983.
@@charlesbunch8383 such a waste of talent 😒
@@charlesbunch8383 Her mother's treatment of her contributed to her illness.
My favorite Carpenters song. She was majestic
I'm really old so I have been listening to Karen my whole life and she gives me chills every time I hear that angelic voice ❤
Yes her voice is its own instrument. God really hit the jackpot when he created this woman's voice/ register.
She is My all time Favorite Female Singer. Unequaled. She brought You with Her on the journey when She performed.
She has such a clear strong voice but soft and melancholy at the same time it affected me instantly as a kid. Great group to review good job!
Karen carpenter sings to your soul no one like her just amazing and her brother Richard amazing artist and producer great reaction thank you
Dive into their catalog. Superstar, Solitaire are two of my favorites.
Karen was sweet and humble. She didn't "over sing" and try to impress people with her power like so many singers do. She thought of herself as a jazz drummer first and a singer second. Amazing talent and when combined with her brother's musical genius of composing, arranging, doing harmonies, and playing keyboards, they were an unbeatable duo! Nothing like this in today's music, sad to say.
Karen Anne was an angel sent straight from heaven 💞 🌹 💖
Karen was always humble when complimented on her voice...sheepish when when complimented on her beauty....and delighted when complimented on her drumming!
No auto-tune, no electronics, no synths, no computers layering their sound
Another thing Richard Carpenter did was invent the power ballad subgenre of song. Check out "Goodbye To Love" from 1972, written and arranged by Richard. Terrific lead vocal by Karen (of course), and what at the time was incongruous (not to mention controversial) fuzz guitar solo work by Tony Peluso of Instant Joy...you can draw a straight line from that song to, say, Evanescence...
Greatest female vocalist EVER! I saw The Carpenters in concert in 1977. Amazing drum player also.
don't stop now, and check out her drum solos too, lots of songs to enjoy
In My Humble Opinion,, No Song Captures What Karen Went Through More Than This One..R.I.P. Karen..Thanks For All You Gave Us..Gone But Definitely Not Forgotten. ❤
A number of their songs (even covers, which this one is) seem biographical, even prophetic, about Karen. Haunting. Listen, for instance, to "Eve", one of Richard's own compositions, from 1968, recorded for Carpenters' 1969 debut album. It's absolutely spooky in places...
@@StudeSteve62 True.
Love The Carpenters ! Karen and Richard both talented singers. Only Yesterday and Close to you and Superstar my favs 😊 🧡
Wow one of my favorite songs of The Carpenters you're absolutely right she has a fantastic voice rest in peace Karen Carpenter
Her voice is like a gold bar wrapped in velvet. She was a pretty damn good drummer too, until they moved her out front and gave her a hand-held mic.
Clear, distinct and pure. You called that right! What a great experience, thanks for posting.
There's a video that shows her running around the stage playing seven different drum sets at once it is so crazy and Wild! Look it up
Beautiful Karen Carpenter inside & out, her voice is truly angelic love her, her voice calms me and makes me smile 😊 ❤️she never realised how wonderful she truly was, what a shinning star 🌟 she was
Why do I keep coming back to this woman and her voice? She literally makes me spiritually happy. That's what an angel does.
That's what it sounds like in heaven. Karen's angelic voice...that's pure heaven. We miss you Karen.
A talent that doesn't realize how talented she is. We perceive her so differently than how she perceived herself.
Very well said.
She's a phenomenal drummer. there is a video available of her drumming. It's amazing.
Fun fact, it was actually Hal Blaine on drums for their songs. Not that she couldn't do it, it was just what the producers/record company wanted. Hal even didn't know why.
They started out as the Richard Carpenter Trio, a jazz trio. Karen always thought of herself a a drummer who also sang. Every time I hear the Carpenters or watch one of their videos, for a short while my life is made so much better as my heart fills with joy. I know that sounds corny, but it is true.
This Masquerade takes the band back to their jazz roots--way back when they played out of Cal State Long Beach. Love that song a lot.
@@ronkrupovich7152 Just today I listened to the George Benson cover of that great Leon Russell penned tune. A collaboration with Karen and George on "This Masquerade" would have been incredible.
@@dinodasbunce6224 if I’m not mistaken, the Carpenters collaborated with Leon on this song and on another song (Song for You?).
The Carpenters were so uncool where/when I grew up. No one I hung with would ever admit they like them. However, I grew up liking the old crooners and I knew when I was listening to a unique/great voice. Hari, look up Karen playing 4 or 5 drums in succession. She did it on one of the old shows. Maybe look up "Karen Cadpenter drumming. She always looks so happy drumming. Thanks for sharing this song. She always quiets my soul.
1075 rock drummer of the year. She has a couple of drum solo videos on RUclips. She considered herself to be a drummer who sings rather than a singer who plays drums. It was her joy.
Correct Ms. Karen's voice is pure and smooth as Budder..☻ R.I.P. Ms. Karen.. ♠W.G.
Her voice still gives me goosebumps.
Harri, please do Superstar. You will love it.
Paul Williams could sure write good songs ! He said in an interview that once he met the great lyricist Johnny Mercer (who penned over 1500 songs) at A&M Records where they were both working. He said “Paul Williams, ‘what I’ve got they used to call the blues,’ that Paul Williams?” He said it was one of the great moments of his life.
You can never go wrong with The Carpenters. There music is timeless. Superstar is another favorite. Great reaction.
They took music to highest level possible.. A duo that will never be replaced... Just brilliance...
I Think This One Will Truly Surprise You My Music Lovin Brother,, LENNY KRAVITZ "ARE YOU GONNA GO MY WAY"
Absolutely love the Carpenters. Looking forward to watching you discover more of their amazing music!
That voice got me thru a lot of difficult times in my teens and twenties back in the 1970S and 1980s.
Karen is a drummer and singer par excellance
Karen makes me so sad 😭 such a tragic story, but their music lives on, perhaps she was an angel that was on loan for a short time from heaven.
GREATEST vocalist/drummer of all-time!
.......... and she plays the drums 🔥😎
Karen is also an amazing drummer. There are some videos of her drum solos that will blow you away. Her brother, Richard did amazing arrangements for her beautiful voice. They had a string of great songs in the early 70’s. Karen’s rich voice is always unmistakable. Very sad ending for her. I hope she at least got to enjoy her success. I also recommend Linda Ronstadt. Perhaps “Hasten Down the Wind”, with Don Henley singing backup.
Their music is a great part of my childhood. It is very sad that she died so young.
It absolutely breaks my heart that this gifted young woman NEVER saw herself as the greatest vocalist and beautiful person that so many of us saw in her. How could that be with all this to give the world this beautiful woman ended up costing herself her life. Sometimes when whe n I hear her voicec i still cry to this dsy....for all the beauty and inspiration that could have been made but for her lack of strong self image. Let this be a cautionary tale for others. Thank you, God, for the gift of this angel.
I remember seeing them in concert a long long time ago. I always had a crush on Karen lol.
Her voice was perfection!!
Carpenters were a band or group, and Richard was a huge part of it, but you are not wrong to shine the spotlight on the amazing Karen Carpenter, RIP. At least we have the legacy of her music to enjoy. Cheers, Harri!
I grew up listening to the Carpenters. No joke on rainy days and I could not go outside and play, I would go tk our basement, put on my sister's Carpenter LP and listen. Her voice is one of a kind. I thought how cool that they were brother and sister. Both brilliant in their own way.
Yep I'll vote for Superstar , Close To You , We've Only Just Begun . Beautiful voice . 🐧🏳️🌈
Voice of an angel. Gone way too soon. RIP
You gotta check out Karen Carpenter drum solo videos. She's off the hook.
FYI. On their first 3 albums, she also played the Bass guitar on the studio recordings. She was truly multitalented.
I'm ready to cry, her voice is so beautiful. We lost so much beauty with her passing so young. We surely miss her.
If I may add, she was a great drummer, very well respected by the likes of Buddy Rich.
When I was growing up, they cranked out a chart-topper every 2 months or so. She was a highly respected drummer.
Having grown up in the 70's and 80's, I've seen many Carpenters performances. She always looked happiest when she was drumming.
Karen was one of my favorite singers growing up and was crushed to hear the news of her passing.
Karen's voice is majestic! And, as you saw, a pretty darned good drummer. In fact, she always described herself as a drummer who sings, because she grew up playing the drums, not singing, and really didn't start singing until the group formed. Thank goodness she did start. She's one of a kind.
Please, react to "Superstar" if you haven't heard it already.
Appreciate your recognition of untouched talent. This song was live TV in 1971. No auto-tune, computerized instruments, twerking, screaming, or stripping. Multiple gold and platinum albums. She was nominated for 7 Grammys and won 3. 'She sang to you, not at you'. Tragic loss from years of anorexia nervosa. Died Feb 1983 at 32.
Playboy Reader's Poll for best rock drummer 1975.
1 .... Karen Carpenter
2 .... John Bonham
3 .... Ringo Starr
4 .... Keith Moon
5 .... Mick Fleetwood
One of the purest voices ever
Her voice is the sound of angels. Just incredible.
that is how the Angels sound in Heaven. Absolutely perfect voice
You've got to check out documentaries on the Carpenter's. There's a great photo of Karen's childhood drum set with her name in decal. Also, Close to You is my personal fave.
Harri - I saw the Carpenters in concert in Duluth, Minnesota. It was years and years ago. So long ago, in fact...that their opening act was a young comedian named Steve Martin. True.
Wow! You got two for the price of one
Tear filled celebration. Her tone is in a frequency that melts what ever can hear it.
One of the most perceptive modern day reactions/reviews I have heard. Her voice STUNNED me when, as a late teen, I first heard their version of Ticket to Ride. Today, after Richard worked with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to redo some of ther songs, a whole new generation can now listen to this unique, once-in-a-lifetime voice. I heard it in person twice and feel so very lucky that I did.
This song always takes me back to the days when life was slower and carefree! She was an Angel among us!
Karen Carpenter is my favorite female singer. If I could sing like anybody, it would be her.
Great reaction. She was the voice of my generation 😪 we lost her too soon.
You’ve got to check out the Carpenters’ “Goodbye to Love”... make sure it’s the recording, not a live version (because they always cut it too short)!
Voice of an angel. Check out "Superstar" by them next.
The voice of an angel.PERFECTION❤️We miss you so much!,,,,🦋🥀
So many of have loved and still adore her voice and purity today...some 40 years later
