Karen and I corresponded with each other while I was in Vietnam, it started with a case of beer bet that she wouldn't answer my letter. I was 17 years old and had a huge crush, I still have those letters in a safety deposit box. I tear up listening to her because there was a lot of private sharing of what we were going through. She was so genuine, sweet, and kind,
Thank you for sharing that story and for serving. My dad did three tours in Vietnam. He passed in 1977 due to complications from Agent Orange. Every time I hear the Carpenters, I think of my dad. Peace be with you.
Thank you for sharing. I always believed she had the heart of an angel, as well as the voice of an angel in Heaven. Her voice still makes me tear up, when I hear her sing, and now watching her on video when she is singing, is gold.
The first line, "When I was young I would listen to the radio, waiting for my favorite song..." made me cry because I can remember when I was young listening to the radio wait for my favorite song"; THIS song.
Every person who grew up with "radio" can relate to the very first line... "When I was young, I'd listen to the radio...waiting for my favorite songs...when they played, I'd sing along."
Richard had such a great ability to either write the songs or pick the best ones and make them smash hits. It was always super direct lyrics, w/out a bunch of cryptic poetic obscurity. Just how people think and Karen would deliver it w/ that emotional impact and the voice of one of God's personal angels (which she is now).
One of my best friends passed away unexpected. She loved the Carpenters. We used to drive around singing with Karen back in the 70s. They played this song at her funeral. I couldnt stop crying. Rest in Peace my good friend.
Omg why did u wait so long...maybe the sadness? I can relate...but I listen to her almost everyday...do the same...it will make u feel better. She saved my life as a kid.
Me too. Now thank to a RUclips algorithm I’m inundated with reactors, didn’t know about them, and seeing the faces when Karen’s vocals start. Even the kids doing these, Harri is a bit older but still past her time. But the youngsters who truly have no idea and their faces.
I thought something was wrong with you until I checked. She died on February the 4th, 1983, FORTY years ago. Is that possible? FORTY YEARS??? Hell, I'm 85, and she died half my life ago? .......................
It doesn't matter when you came on over. You just realized in your soul what majestic singing and pure tone sounds like. I was taunted and brutalized by my friends in the early 70s for daring to worship (little "w") at the altar of Karen's voice. Rock was their only god (little "g"), by that I mean hard rock. Now don't get me wrong, I love me some rock n roll but Karen's voice brings me closer to God and heaven, such is the impact of hearing an angel sing. Praise God.
Thank you, Aunt Tracy! Nice job working with Karen to bring Harri so many wonderful memories! It was a pleasure witnessing this direct hit on his heart! 💕💕💕
Please don’t ever feel like you have to apologize for expressing any emotions or nostalgia. That is the gift that music gives to us. It can instantly take us back to a time in our life. I am really enjoying being subscribed to your channel. You’re a standup guy. Most sincerely, ☮️ Steve in Dallas (Texas, USA)
This song is referring to the the 50s doo wop sound. In the early 70 lots of stations began popping up playing just oldies tunes from 10 or 15 years earlier.
And you hearing this now and being brought back to your aunties house is exactly what this song is about. Being transported back to a younger time by the music that you loved. The sights, sounds, smells, and the emotions!
I felt like I was having a kind of inception moment where Harri was thinking and talking about the music taking him back in time during a song about music taking them back in time. O.o
Exactly - this song with Karen's voice and Richard's arrangement + harmonies is like a time machine transporting listeners to THAT special time & place in their own lives. The brilliance of such a seemingly simple song that both entertains you in your youth then utterly grasps your very heart and soul years or decades later is incredible.
Karen makes every word she sings a “song” individually. Each word is an emotion. That is what sets her apart from other excellent singers. Rare as hens teeth.
She has an uncanny ability to reach right out and connect strongly w/ the listener. What is remarkable is that it doesn't matter what kind of music the listener prefers, they are stunned by the Carpenters.
You're the only reactor I've discovered on RUclips who not only appreciates good music, but Understands. These are the sounds of my youth, and it pleases me so much to see you Get It. Carry on, Harri, and don't let the Music die. No one sings like Karen.
I saw one other guy who looked about his age feel a similar way….so I guess it’s truly the way we humans are intrinsically. Nothing like reminiscing about the good old days.
Go ahead and listen to the song again... those words really hit you... that’s the way it goes, you remember, and laugh or cry, smile, I thank God for being able to remember!!!
My very favorite Carpenter song--still brings back my teenage years and tears to my eyes 45 years later. Thank-you for reacting to this and I so enjoyed your wonderful memories.
Music can take you places, awaken long forgotten memories, or sympathize with current emotions. You just experienced that, as we all have in our times, and made me nod my head in agreement. Have a great day, brother. Replay this song, take a stroll down memory lane.
Hi Harri! This is one of your new subscribers from Down Under! Thank you for reacting to Karen! When I was a teenager I LOVED her music and still do! When I listen to some of the reactor channels and the music they react to, it can make me feel VERY nostalgic! That’s a good thing! I REALLY enjoy your channel and LOVE that you do a lot of Beetles reactions! You are a warm caring person and I love that you talk about your 3 year old daughter! I have a 6 year old grand daughter and 11 month old grand son! Your channel is an absolute delight! Don’t EVER apologise for your feelings! Stay safe! Greetings from Australia.
Richard knew how to showcase her talent. The two fed each other. When she died a light went out in him. You can see some biographies with him and the pain is still there. He said in one we were just starting. Many of these songs have been done by others but Richards gift of re arranging and re writing them was one of a kind. They took a back commercial and made it a hit, known as we’ve only just begun co-written by Paul Williams.
Karen's voice would reach those rare Beautiful Frequencies Harri, which bursts open Emotion and Memories. Karen is so Enormously missed over 40 years later!!
It's as if this song is almost a self fulfilling prophecy for you with its sense/message of nostalgia and longing. It's a perfect song for reactors to react to.
At a certain age, everyone has heard thousands of songs. But there are a few that immediately attach a memory from you. Knowing where you were, with whom and how you felt, all in an instant. That just happened to you, sir! Ain't music grand!
I absolutely, like millions of other people, love The Carpenters. The Carpenters "Yesterday once more," is one of many favorite songs from them if not my numberb#1 favorite of mine. Thanks Harry!
Serendipity at its finest! I'm so glad you found this song and that it brought back such great memories. It's such a gift that a few notes can transport us back to a particular time and place as if we had never left.
I heard that the sha-la-las were originally considered filler that would be replaced later with other words....until they realized they were actually the perfect choice!! Aren't you glad they awakened such fond memories?
This one is a Carpenter/Bettis composition. In the early seventies there was a vogue for "oldies", songs from the jukebox era, and this lyric by John Bettis was a commentary on that. It's funny how the "shingalingaling" songs were oldies after only about ten years, but this one is timeless after nearly fifty...
I always said after I got older in my 30’s, I can hear certain songs from the 60, 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s , and because I always loved music ,different songs remind me of places I’ve lived, places I’ve been, schools, family members, friends, girlfriends, best friends, neighbors, even coworkers. That’s what growing up with great music does , especially in those times where most people, young and old, listened to and loved mostly the same great music and great artists. That’s another reason why I watch your great channel and other reactors, we get to see people today have to the same feeling of hearing songs from those decades like we did. It gives me great hope for this world that young people have love and respect for all the great classic music and artists like The Carpenters ..
I first heard this song in a small flea market/antique store in a small mountain town. I immediately stopped looking around and stood there and listened til it was over. What a voice Karen had
Music does that. I know your aunti was planting a seed that just germinated on this listening. She was a Carpenters fan. Now you know the circle of life is music. She’s looking down and very happy for you. Bless you Harri.
Can you imagine being the cynical record producer, who has heard it all before. The good, the bad, and the ugly. That guy, I presume it was a guy, slouching in his chair, almost groaning at having to listen to another wannabe group. And then, this angel sings, and he sits bolt upright in his chair knowing he had found a multimillion dollar voice. I wish I would have been there. It must have been an incredible moment.
Funny how in this song Karen is singing of the doo-wop songs of the late 1950's and early 1960's she remembers so fondly from her youth. But THIS song does the same thing for me. Brings me back to when I was five years old again.
I was 16 when I first heard Karen and Richard on the radio. I still know ALL of the words they every song they ever recorded. I’m so happy to see young people like yourself listening to the greatest music that was every recorded. I’m now 62 and still get goosebumps .Thank you young man.....Judy D
It's nice you have those great memories and this song brings them back. We're all so lucky the Carpenters had 10 years of recordings to fall back on. There's a special song for most everyone buried somewhere in their repertoire of great music.
I love that this brought back so many good memories of your aunt. I hope that my nephews & niece think of me some day when I'm gone like you think of your auntie!
Ironic that what the song is talking about is exactly what happened to him as he listened without even trying. That’s the magic of music, sometimes it’s a time machine…which is exactly what the song is saying.
That was a beautiful reaction. Karen’s voice and Richard’s orchestration ties many of us to a time and place and what we were doing. Listen to Karen’s vibrato when she sings “still shines” in this song. It is perfect. Richard says she could wake at 3 a.m. and sound like that with no rehearsal. Her vocal skill was a gift for the whole world, and her innocent clarity and ease of skill is the reason she is still so loved.
Music is a Time Machine. When you hear a certain song from your past, it takes you back, and all of those great memories come rushing back to you. It's wonderful. When my mom was dying from Alzheimer's, I used to play the songs she grew up listening to, and although she hadn't really communicated with us for a while, when she heard those old songs, it brought a little smile to her face for a moment. The tears started rolling down my face with joy at seeing her recognize those songs from the 1940s "Swing" era. It was a gift rom God. She died a few days later after suffering for over 8 years. I'm her son and caregiver. I miss mom so much. God Bless
It’s like she performed this song for all of us who grew up listening to her, knowing that one day (I’m in my early 50’s) we’d rediscover or re-appreciate it. Beautiful to this day ❤️❤️❤️
Isn't it wonderful the way music floods us with loving memories!!💖💖💖💖 I remember when you reacted to George Harrison's song, My Sweet Lord..you were so happy because you've been trying to find this song for along time, the happiness you showed showed all of us how important music is to your memories!! Keep exploring and keep revisiting your wonderful memories!!💖💖💖💖
I'm almost 60 years old. When I was in jr high my friend had The Carpenters Now & Then album. It had this song on it but you have to hear how they did it on that album to know how nostalgic they sang songs of years gone by. I loved that album i made my friend play it over and over. I bought it when I became an adult.
My memories of this song in particular was when i was eleven years old this was in the charts, we used to listen to the top 20 back then on a sunday evening usually whilst having a bath in tin bath in front of open fire to be ready for school on monday.
I absolutely get lost in her voice. In my.opinion, she has the loveliest voice of all time. Look for the video of her playing drums. She was killer on drums. It was on a tv special from the 70s, I just can't remember the title. So glad you found the Carpenters!
She was so genuine, sweet, and kind,
That is a very special story.
Wow! You're so lucky to have this wonderful memory of her forever🙂
God bless you and God bless Karen.
Your "emotional baggage" made this video all the more sweet. Don't apologize for your feelings. It's a big part of why I watch.
The minute she starts singing I can feel the stress leaving my body.
Incredible isn't it
And it hurts sometimes, but it's sooo good...
Now that's a great visual!👍
Así es tal cual lo describes, creo que a todos nos pasa lo mismo, sin importar el idioma 😉 🙌🏻🎶
I grew up in the 70’s so Karen transports me back in time to the 70’s when I hear her sing.
She had a calming, beautiful voice.
The first line, "When I was young I would listen to the radio, waiting for my favorite song..." made me cry because I can remember when I was young listening to the radio wait for my favorite song"; THIS song.
Karen's voice is so pure, perfect pitch, no gimmicks. This was before autotune which makes her voice even more amazing.
I have been a Carpenters fan since the late 60s early 70s when I was in 6th or 7th grade.
You just had a "Yesterday Once More" experience!!
Karen's voice has been having this effect on me for 50 years!!
Mee too! Saw her when I was 11!!
For me, it's been about 12-13 years
One of my best friends passed away unexpected. She loved the Carpenters. We used to drive around singing with Karen back in the 70s. They played this song at her funeral. I couldnt stop crying. Rest in Peace my good friend.
You picked a beauty this time. Can't go wrong with Karen Carpenter
it took me 35--36 years to get myself to listen to The Carpenters since Karen's passing
now her voice is more angelic than before
Omg why did u wait so long...maybe the sadness? I can relate...but I listen to her almost everyday...do the same...it will make u feel better. She saved my life as a kid.
Me too. Now thank to a RUclips algorithm I’m inundated with reactors, didn’t know about them, and seeing the faces when Karen’s vocals start. Even the kids doing these, Harri is a bit older but still past her time. But the youngsters who truly have no idea and their faces.

@@michaelasay6140Me, too, every day. Praise to heaven for Karen's voice.
That’s why it’s called Yesterday Once More!! Happens to me every time I listen to it!! Glad you were touch!
And suddenly, it was yesterday once more.
Thank you, Aunt Tracy! Nice job working with Karen to bring Harri so many wonderful memories! It was a pleasure witnessing this direct hit on his heart!
💕💕💕
Brings tears to your eyes don't it
Please don’t ever feel like you have to apologize for expressing any emotions or nostalgia. That is the gift that music gives to us. It can instantly take us back to a time in our life.
I am really enjoying being subscribed to your channel. You’re a standup guy.
Most sincerely,

Watching you, your face became again the face of that 6-7 year old boy. The facial expression became gentle and soft...
It's amazing the power of love and music together. My sister introduced me to Doctor Hook and I still love them
Maybe Aunt Tracy, wherever she is, led you to find this song at this time. Just maybe.
This song is referring to the the 50s doo wop sound. In the early 70 lots of stations began popping up playing just oldies tunes from 10 or 15 years earlier.
The emotional response is the entire point of the song!! Memories.
“It was just like I was 7 years old all over again!” You mean it was Yesterday Once More?? Looks like the song worked its magic on you!!
And you hearing this now and being brought back to your aunties house is exactly what this song is about. Being transported back to a younger time by the music that you loved. The sights, sounds, smells, and the emotions!

Karen makes me feel that way every time 😢😂💕
Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines 🎵
Such an amazing voice
And yes that is Karen doing all the vocals. harmonizing with herself
Richard too.
Karen makes every word she sings a “song” individually. Each word is an emotion. That is what sets her apart from other excellent singers. Rare as hens teeth.

Also listen to Just JP if you want thoughtful, heartfelt reviews of Carpenters. I was watching his You Tube videos earlier today.
I saw one other guy who looked about his age feel a similar way….so I guess it’s truly the way we humans are intrinsically. Nothing like reminiscing about the good old days.
So well said, Wayne. Peace and hugs from North Carolina. I am still crying but smiling everytime I hear this woman's voice.
The lyrics of the song described exactly how you reacted to the song. Ironic. The Carpenters are forever a part of your life.
The feeling of nostalgia that I get while hearing this song along with Karen Carpenter's beautiful voice just gets to me every time I hear it.
Your aunt had incredibly good taste!
"Goodbye to Love" is a Carpenters song you won't regret listening to. (The studio recording, not a TV performance because they usually cut it short.)
One of the best choices! The studio recording is the very best!!!
Go ahead and listen to the song again... those words really hit you... that’s the way it goes, you remember, and laugh or cry, smile, I thank God for being able to remember!!!
Music is a time machine.
Well put, Gwen!
You ain't the only one that her voice brings tears to.
My very favorite Carpenter song--still brings back my teenage years and tears to my eyes 45 years later. Thank-you for reacting to this and I so enjoyed your wonderful memories.
It took me back to a better time also. What a perfect voice..
Wow
That was wonderful man. Thank you. For music to do this thing to us is a very powerful thing.
Music can take you places, awaken long forgotten memories, or sympathize with current emotions. You just experienced that, as we all have in our times, and made me nod my head in agreement.
Have a great day, brother. Replay this song, take a stroll down memory lane.

“Solitaire” is my favorite song from Karen. It is haunting and kind of sad but just beautiful!🌺✌️
Only Karen can bring tears to my eyes. Just beautiful.
It's as if this song is almost a self fulfilling prophecy for you with its sense/message of nostalgia and longing. It's a perfect song for reactors to react to.

Same here
I absolutely, like millions of other people, love The Carpenters. The Carpenters "Yesterday once more," is one of many favorite songs from them if not my numberb#1 favorite of mine. Thanks Harry!

One of my absolute favorite Carpenters songs is "For All We Know" - beautiful tune. Pretty short but beautiful.
One of my first LP’s! Oh how I love Karen and Richard Carpenter! Real music!
Music does that. I know your aunti was planting a seed that just germinated on this listening. She was a Carpenters fan. Now you know the circle of life is music. She’s looking down and very happy for you. Bless you Harri.
Listening to her awesome, smoothly tender voice makes me feel ❤ comfortable and ease.Oh I miss her and her unique voice.
The best female voice of all time, number one, numero uno, that is for sure, there is no one near her
So happy that you found a childhood memory! So it really is “yesterday once more”. 😊
I think you heard it the right way the first time.
you cant help but get moved by Karen's beautiful voice,
So touching Karen’s voice was perfection!
In the case of the Carpenters, the record company guy was a musician himself, Herb Alpert.
Funny how in this song Karen is singing of the doo-wop songs of the late 1950's and early 1960's she remembers so fondly from her youth. But THIS song does the same thing for me. Brings me back to when I was five years old again.

Ironic that the message of the song is about the songs of our past living in our hearts and minds until we visit them again.
The interesting thing is that this song is still relevant today. Maybe even more so. I grew up listening to them.
OMG! Watching you saying you saw your aunt at that moment made me smile and cry at the same time. What a beautiful experience for you!!!
God Bless
So lovely to hear your memories of your auntie so fondly !!!
Karen Carpenter > Her voice> Silky Velvety Silk💕 Portland Oregon USA 🇺🇸
Gosh Portland is terrible...think I just heard murders uo by 533% there! Because of that terrible Biden the US is a disaster!
It’s like she performed this song for all of us who grew up listening to her, knowing that one day (I’m in my early 50’s) we’d rediscover or re-appreciate it. Beautiful to this day ❤️❤️❤️
The most beautiful voice God has ever or will ever create! :)
Isn't it wonderful the way music floods us with loving memories!!💖💖💖💖
I remember when you reacted to George Harrison's song, My Sweet Lord..you were so happy because you've been trying to find this song for along time, the happiness you showed showed all of us how important music is to your memories!! Keep exploring and keep revisiting your wonderful memories!!💖💖💖💖
The Carpenters do some great covers of Leon Russell songs. Superstar, This Masquerade, A song for you. Amazing voice that never gets old.
It was nice to hear what you called emotional baggage. That is when you know what the miracle of music performed purely can do. Thank you
It’s a very emotional song.
Beautiful, classic, love song, an incredible voice💕💕🎼🎼
AND YOU HAD NO IDEAAAAAA IT WAS THE CARPENTERS HUH??? :) NIIIICCCEEE!
Its great when music transports us isnt it. Your aunt sounds like she was a cool lady she would be proud of the love you share and bring on here
That's exactly what she's talking about in the song.About how music can take you back to yesterday.
Its a feel good song that makes you wanna sing along to
My first CD was their double CD greatest hits ..
Not a huge carpenters fan but this and superstar are masterpieces and what a voice Karen had God bless her
My memories of this song in particular was when i was eleven years old this was in the charts, we used to listen to the top 20 back then on a sunday evening usually whilst having a bath in tin bath in front of open fire to be ready for school on monday.
She was the Best by far! No Equal! My favorite.
This is such a lovely song. It makes you feel good.
Brilliant memory Harri, love it.
I absolutely get lost in her voice.
In my.opinion, she has the loveliest voice of all time.
