I really like the idea of organizing by the vibe! I’ve had mine set to years, but you are right when you say, u have to continue to scroll through the years to fit the occasion. Great idea! Thanks!
Funny thing is, I think every DJ with some experience will recognize more or less a DJ library who plays at gigs. And, most of us invented it ourself by trail and error and are constantly tweaking it. You grow with it.
This is something I struggle with. When I began I downloaded tons of music then I created smart crates in Serato to begin organizing. I tried to create vibe folders, it was just so much music! Lol. I found out about Mixed in Key which tagged all of my music with ENERGY levels and even though it is automated and lacks a bit of accuracy, when I DJ I use my energy levels... but I definitely recognize that sometimes I accidentally wreck the vibe a little bit.... i need to just suck it up and get my vibes down so I have more personal control of the vibe...though Mixed In Key energy levels DID help begin that process.
Yeah it’s definitely not easy to do folders by vibes sometimes I just don’t know where I want to go with what I’m playing I just try to make sure I have the bangers and just jump in and out of different folders and just do sets
I use to love using the iTunes library to organize my music lists in serato. I had to stop because the new OS uses Apple Music now which doesn’t work with serato. Has that changed? Can we use iTunes again?
Bro lol. I just decided to redownload my entire library mainly to get rid of songs I never play and to tag everything. I need to make a new video on how I used smart crates. There is absolutely no reason to use iTunes lol
This is a great idea. I been Djing with mainly music saved to my MacBook and Tidal in Serato when I have a solid signal. This is great because no Wi-Fi is needed to use the music in iTunes.. Thank Dj Liftoff 👍🏾✌🏾✊🏾
Nice Job on your way of organizing your crates. I don't use iTunes myself and have learned to use Serato Smart Crates but as you said, there is always more than one way to do something. Thanks for the educative video.
@@DJLiftOFF Let me know if your interested and I'll give you a hand. However it is not very different than what you are doing with iTunes. I have a video on my channel that talks about them if you are interested.
I’m currently obsessed with library management. Tags and just getting new ideas but bro we do the same thing with iTunes. Honestly djs sleep on iTunes but no eh software has the smart playlist capabilities that iTunes has. You can have so many parameters which makes it easy. Plus they all feed into rekordbox or serato so no need to double handle. Great vid as well. Subbed :)
I’m almost always playing offline really. I’m either playing downloaded music that’s in my library, or I connect a RCA from my mixer/controller directly to my laptop and play from downloaded music on Spotify.
Ahhh, got ya. Not that I know of currently but I’ll definitely be needing an alternative myself, so I’ll make a video when I find something worth while for sure.
Man............i never knew about the folder option. This surely made things easier. Sadly i do mine with years as well as Lounge Party, Smooth Party and Turn-Up Party.
Thank you for the video. I've always used iTunes (now Music) to organize my library. I don't know anything else. My question is what would be the advantage of keeping my music organized in Serato and what would I give up with iTunes? Thanks for what you do
You’re very welcome. I personally prefer iTunes because of things like smart playlists and it’s just easier to manage in my opinion. There’s no true advantage to me personally to organizing everything in serato. It’s truly preference in my eyes. I have most of my music organized in iTunes, but I do have some crates that I’ve created in serato too on the fly.
Yes, most definitely. You can download music from anywhere and add it to serato via a crate, or add music downloads from anywhere straight to iTunes and it’ll show up in serato!
I use SoundCloud n I cannot get my separated playlists to go into serato that way it’s just all one giant list n it’s harder to find songs scrolling thru 480 songs.. I’d like to use I tunes but it’ll cost to much to just go buy what I already have one by one 🤷🏽♀️
I hear you 100%!! I’ve just always done it this way so it’s been easy but completely switching from what’s already comfortable is just inconvenient. Hoping some new DJs that are just getting started will find it helpful. Or others needing a better way to categorize.
As long as you have the music actually downloaded and not just streaming through Apple, the answer is yes! However, I’ve never used music from Apple Music to DJ, it’s always been music I’ve downloaded so I’m not 100% sure how that works 🤔
I too use iTunes to organize my music. I purchased a new laptop because the old one died. The music has been transferred but I’m have to redo the playlists and move the songs to its proper place. It is a long drawn out task that I don’t want to do again. What would you recommend to prevent reorganizing music on a new laptop?
Unfortunately, it’s one of things that you most likely will have to do at some point!! Wish your old one didn’t die because you could of of course transferred playlists, but I would just make the playlists slowly. Don’t try and do too at once!
@@DJLiftOFF thanks for responding. I tried to transfer the playlist before my old laptop crashed by using my external hard drive. Only the playlist transferred. What was weird, the same songs were in the subset in the playlist. For an example, the same hip hop songs were in my Latin, R&B, Reggae etc. playlists. I reached out to Apple for assistance but they didn’t know what to do. I’ve finally got everything organized but I don’t want to go through that again.

That has happened to me before, where it doesn’t load. You can go in to settings and uncheck “show iTunes library” and then recheck it. It should load it. Or try restarting serato after doing that if it doesn’t load immediately.
Quick question so say I have 50ogbs worth of music how do I transfer it to iTunes does the amount of space on the computer matter ?? Like do I need to make sure my Mac has enough space ? Or when I connect my external drive when I dj they will just automatically pop in ?
I would personally make sure your mac has enough space, and drop all the songs in to iTunes, and then organize from there! And yes, if you do it that way, it automatically load in serato!
