    This was the first Tour I watched from beginning to end. I recorded it on VHS and wore those tapes out
    Thanks for refreshing great memories

    I have watched this video, the 86 tour videos, the 85 tour video. You name it and I have seen it. They never get old. The glory days of cycling. I miss them so much...

    Thanks for sharing this video. I had it on VHS, which I recorded it during live coverage on ABC. But they got all screwed up.

    "As quickly as he stumbled the press grumbled ---- about Greg LeMond." LUV it! These races turned me into a cyclist and I had a great result in 1999 on Manayunk Wall. But like most cyclists in the USA .....we lack SUPPORT....especially a Black cyclist like myself...it's not built into our culture. My goal was to ride the tour.

    Love John Corbett in the Compaq computer commercial. I think NORTHERN EXPOSURE debuted in the fall of 1989.

    I love this but you suddenly realise how little of the actual racing they cover. Hey I'm not sure, did Delgado miss his start time...? Still great watching, thanks.

      He showed up 2:43 late for his Prologue Start. That time would hunt him for the entire race.

    Did I miss something? No stage 2? I was there for the prologue and stages 1 & 2. There was really good chance that I would appear in the stage 2 segment. I got in the middle of the road in a short climb up through the town of Vianden. One of my favorite rides was from home in Bitburg to Vianden. I knew the road and staked a claim on a cafe table near the top of the straightest segment on the cobblestone street. One of the moto-camera rigs went right by me, you can see it in my series of shots passing me by. I kinda hoped I might be seen in the footage! Oh well, the search continues.

    Sadly, this was when the US coverage really went to shit. Way too much Human Interest(TM) crap, way too little substance. Or, as I remember it from an article in Bicycling:
    "The Tour de France is not 'Take a Tour of France'. The Tour de France is a *race*."

  • @PanchoVillasTortilla

    this was a weird Tour ….Lemond is legend but I woulda loved yo see him compete against a nonlate Delgado …. And for Fignon man that was a tufff L .

    • @frankducky6130
      @frankducky6130 3 года назад

      Lemond was stronger than Delgado in the final week. Delgado took back 4 minutes in the second week because the favorites wrote him off.

    • @PanchoVillasTortilla
      @PanchoVillasTortilla 3 года назад

      @@frankducky6130 We will never know for certain….every action every attack every climb would have been different if Delgado would not have been late….to speculate that Lemond was stronger in week 3 is not applicable cuz of the handicap. Too many variables to say it would have been identical if the handicap wasn’t there. It would have been more interesting having three champions on a level playing field .

    • @frankducky6130
      @frankducky6130 3 года назад

      @@PanchoVillasTortilla You are perhaps forgetting that most of the time Delgado lost was down to him being dropped by his own team in the team time trial. For whatever reason he wasn't prepared at the start of the race, it takes 3 weeks to win the Tour de France, Delgado could only blame his lack of form/lack of mental preparedness at the start of the race for being 10 minutes back after 3 stages.
