We grow ours in the ground in zone 9. We've had them in filtered light for many years. We give them a deep watering with a small amount of SEA90 once a year. It helps to concentrate a high amount of minerals near their root zone and most of the "bad salts" wash away during the year due to heavy rains and evaporation factors. They only need to be covered in late winter when temperatures drop below 40. Occasionally we'll top dress the soil with mushroom compost mixed with crushed pine park and they love it. Of course, they hate standing water but love rich moist soil and filtered light. So it's best to plant them in an area you can control certain factors that would otherwise relate to their demise.
I’m in Miami Florida, my single tree produces so many but I can’t give them away fast enough. What fertilizer do you like best? I use the same ones kn my bananas plants.
I use amzn.to/3wdXRDZ with acid fertilizer amzn.to/3AomD7N Except in the winter once every 90 days for the Dynamite and monthly for the Acid type fertilizer. Also fine pine bark as a top dressing mulch.
@@Pepesplants Thank you Pepe. How often are you fertilizing now? During these heats and rain. I appreciate the info. I’m going to try to air layer for the first time this year. :-)
That's a great question. For some reason the plant has been on bare soil for many years and not ever rooted into the ground. I do move them around so that might be preventing it. They seem very happy in the pot. Possibly the roots stay in the more acidic potting soil. Outside the pot the soil is more alkaline. That might be the reason.
Excuse me sir hope you help me out. I got 3 miracle fruit tree for couple months but today on the leaves there are many black spots, should i cut leaves off or how to deal with it. Thank you
Black spots on leaves is not enough information to help you. Can you be more specific? Is the tree in a pot? How often do you water? Did you fertilize it? Tell me more about the growing conditions?
my plant is fruiting and growing proficiently. it used to really change the taste of sour food, however recently it doesnt do that anymore. what do i need to do? do i need to amend the soil?
That I never heard of before so I don't know how to answer you sorry. Are your taste buds okay? Did you let someone else try the fruit and see if it works for them?
How would you go about changing the soil pH? I've got two plants that are 2-3 years old in pH 7 soil, but I'm scared to transplant to a new pot because they just arrived at my house
Mine is 4 years old and has barely produced any. Only about 3 ft tall and looks like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree. I compost everything right by it so it should be getting the nutes. What do you think I'm doing wrong I'm in Hawaii 150 inches of rain a year.
They like acid soil similar to coffee and cacao plants. Maybe that's a factor to consider. How about light? How much sun and is it part shade or filtered?

Thanks for another great video! What easy Ph tester brand do you trust to do quick test of your potted plants? I use a Kelway tester for my outdoor soil but it’s not ideal to push that unit into a smaller pot and it would disturb the roots. All the big box store probe testers are junk and either break or are unreliable results
You can keep in containers in partial sun but filtered. Container size varies depending on how large the tree is. 3, 7, 15, 25 gal containers are the way to go. Move indoors if weather gets below 40 degrees F to be safe avoid leaf desiccation. Best wishes.

They are easy to grow in pots. Bring them indoors if weather outside is very dry and colder than 45 degrees to be safe. Mist them to keep the leaves and soil moist. They need minimum 50-60% relative humidity. Keep them in filtered light.
Thank you. I have miracle fruit berry seeds sprouting in their baggy in peat moss and need to get them into seedling trays then into your suggested mix, thereafter. I'm having no luck finding pine bark fines anywhere here near Oceanside California, so far. I've also looked for it as soil conditioner. Are there any other key names or places other than the usual home improvement stores to find them ? They don't even offer them for online ordering :/
The Pine Bark is sometimes called Soil conditioner so read the ingredients. If you don't find it don't worry. Use 50% Peat Moss and 50% Potting Soil for the container. For seedlings use regular potting soil and a deep pot. They have a very long tap root. Seeds can take 45 days or more to germinate. I always start Miracle Fruit seeds in as deep a tray as possible. I never use a baggy. Organic acid type fertilizer is best once a month during grow season. Happy Growing. +=)
