There is a huge difference between being honest and being mean. Being honest means you express your thoughts using nice words or without offending anyone, then being mean means you express your thoughts (mostly negative thoughts) in an awful manner or you use awful examples to explain your point.
In this case, Niki's mom and sister were more on the mean side than honest. Thank God Joe and Al came to the rescue.

I'm so glad this shop exists, but I am admittedly jealous, I wish there was a shop with a Jo and Al that I could go to if i ever gt married. Being smaller than these lovely ladies but with seriously poor body confidence, I would be terrified of wedding dress shopping and looking bad in everything. They are so good at giving the ladies a confidence boost. Gok needs to open a shop so I can go see him privately as I would never be willing to be filmed.

Jo and Al are awesome. The first family was very unkind. The second family was really supportive. There is no need for hurtful comments. Is asked simply say that dress is okay but could you try on another one for comparison. Hurting someone's feelings is just cruel and unnecessary. Both brides looked beautiful.
She knew her family was like that. I didn't see her feelings get hurt at all. Not all people take those words personally. Who knows - maybe she is also like that?
The only thing I agree with you is that their energy was so strong that it kept her from overriding their opinions. She got lucky that she found a dress there.
With the large selection in her size, Jo and Al's shop would have had the best chance to have "her" dress. If she went away empty handed, she may have had to wear her birthday suit down the aisle.
Her mom and sister liked the dress she liked. Thank goodness. I also feel that Jo and Al would have stepped in if they didn't.

The family seems to think rudeness is required. Honest opinions can be given while still having consideration for the feelings of others. Thats called etiquette.

I thought the first dress looked fantastic. I think the veil should have been tried on with that one and they would have loved it. I’m just glad she finally found one she loved.
I liked the first one too. But I also liked the "Elsa" dress too. But the one she picked was also beautiful. I think she could have gotten any one of those and turned out ok.
I think sometimes brides feel that there has to be "the one" and none else will do. I know pictures will be forever, but no one will remember her dress as much as she will. And the ceremony with her husband, family and friends is the most important in the end.
It's like the mom and sister are competing for "Meanest Comment". This isn't constructive. Why bring them at all?

The staff on these shows always shit on the family for not pretending the first dress is the one, but most of the time they end up being right. Sometimes a bride wants to settle on the first dress, but it's good to try on a few and get something really special and flattering if you're spending that much money.

I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped at the sausage skin comment. Not only was it incredibly mean, but I thought she looked stunning in that dress! I do prefer the one she chose, but that's more about my style.
First bride - second dress was the best IMHO. Mom and sister aren't very supportive.
Problem here is both mother and sister are thinner but rather plain looking and rather snarky, whereas the bride may be larger, but she is so pretty AND has a lovely personality..and those two are jealous as hell and doing all they can to make her look crappy on her wedding. It feels like that last one they HAD to admit she looked fabulous, or everyone would know for sure they'd been lying all along, because she was crying.
