I think it is clever because it also ties into his Tinker personallity. The memory of repairing metall sonic was the similarity that made the two personas crash together.
I was genuinely surprised by how quickly I grew attached to Mr. Tinker even though I knew he wasn't gonna last. He cared for the townsfolk and fixed their things, wanted to make an amusement park for children, and was overall a really nice guy. My heart broke when Mr. Tinker was begging Starline to not turn him into Eggman, pleading to avoid becoming the monster who terrified the people he grew to care for.

A underappreciated part of sonic's character to me was his forgiveness of others (knuckles, shadow, and silver as examples) and to see this explored and have a entire arc about it shows that these writers really care about who sonic is.
There is difference in being kind and being stupid. Also Sonic didn't learn from his mistakes and continues to make the same mistake over and over again. Definition of insanity right there.

The sad thing is it's heavily implied that there's a part of Eggman that does genuinely miss being Mr. Tinker. That scene is Issue 23 was one of the comic's high points in my opinion.

I don't know that SEGA would let Flynn approach a story about dissociative identity disorder, but I would absolutely love for Tinker to occasionally break through and help Sonic and his friends fight whatever scheme Robotnik has going. Could really help the kids understand the importance of mental health and the reality of mental illness, particularly if the heroes provide an example of respect for the issue.

IDW has been doing some pretty great stuff with Metal Sonic, exploring what it means to be not just a robot, but a robot with the purpose of copying someone. Given what I’ve heard of mandates, I doubt we’ll get any MAJOR changes from Metal, but it’s nice that they’re at least exploring his character instead of just having him fill a slot for a boss or a racing game.
I like how after sega neutered sonic, idw still managed to make him the same old flawed hero. Just less of a jerk. His mercy is his biggest weakness, but besides his speed and confidence, its one of his defining features. With what damage he can do to metal, imagine the things he could do to organic matter if he were inclined. He could easily straight up KILL eggman, before the latter could even blink. But he doesnt. Because he's a good guy. And it keeps coming back to bite him - and the rest of the world. But even so, its a line he refuses to cross.
Did you know that Super Sonic as a seperate entity wasn't just the comics but Sonic R and Sonic Shufle? Oh and in the Sonic Riders series, he's somewhat like a seperate character by sounding, acting and behaving different than Sonic which in Free Riders, you can hear his voice sounds raspy but not as much as in the first and second game, I have a video on the difference between Sonic and Super Sonic's voice where you'll hear Super Sonic's clearly as it took a certain way to hear it unless I deleted it because if I did, I was going to improve the video and have the two heard more clearly than in the one I'm referring to.

As I see it, Metal Sonic only finds Eggman because it returns to the same base where he resides at the moment more of a coincidence rather than a thoughtful act; what ever the reason I think it is as much relevant as the comics mentions it.

6:34-6:38 I always enjoy seeing Sonic and Silver team up. An underrated, yet unique duo. One of them is a cool, confident teen with a bit of an ego, while the other is a shy, dorky teen who's humble. Ever since Sonic saved Silver from Infinite in Forces, I've wanted to see more of those two hedgehogs working together and IDW successfully delivered. There were certain moments during the Zombot arc when Silver was there to save Sonic whenever he was in a dire situation. The relationship that Sonic and Silver have provides great chemistry and entertainment. Fun Fact: Silver's theme (Dreams of an Absolution) is a gay romance song. The singer (Bentley Jones) himself made a video explaining the origin of that song. If you've heard that song before, you'll know it's a remix of Green Hill Zone. Dreams of an Absolution is what defines Silver as a character. The word "absolution" means to forgive, atone, or repent. The "Green Hill" aspect of the song is a subtle hint to who Silver's in love with. Overall, Dreams of an Absolution is a story about a naive, insecure time traveller who wants to make up for what he did wrong in '06 (trying to kill the "Iblis Trigger" A.K.A. Sonic).

Like so many other franchises such as Batman and Doctor Who, Sonic has shown compassion towards great enemies, wanting to see the good in them, and all this does it cost our hero more death, destruction and pain further down the line when evil rises yet again.

Huh, funny. I've never read the IDW comics before, so I never heard of the gem that can open portals across the world, and seeing how he uses it reminds me of one of my oc's abilities. He can also open up portals to any point in time, but his portals can allow him to go across time and space.

Sonic and Goku literally having the same character moment right now. Both of them suffering the consequences of giving too much mercy to the villains in their respective manga and comic issues.
I’m not too sure about that. Goku was fighting a complete stranger for the most part who had already killed a number of people. However, the very first incarnation of Metal Sonic willingly saved Sonic’s life during their first encounter, so I’d say that there’s definitely a credence for Sonic sparing Metal.

Vegeta literally fits that description and he became literally the only other character who can keep up with him. Hell, Freeza ended up being a temporary ally. 9:00 This whole thing with Sonic fixing Metal Sonic and setting him free thing is really out of character for him, and exists purely to artificially guilt trip Sonic later. He's never treated Metal Sonic as anything more than just one of Eggman's toys and never thought he could be redeemed, nor has he ever gone out of his way to do so. He's always had to be told by others not to. Really hate it, because it exists just so they can say "well Sonic, if you didn't free him, he wouldn't have brought Eggman back" which itself was contrived that he just magically can find Eggman when he was looking for him for months after Eggman went AWOL and couldn't, let alone that Metal Sonic was the thing that happened to jog his memory and bring him back.
And he has destroyed imitators before (minus Mecha Sonic as it was done in by Knuckles instead and Shadow as he gave out his life just by loosening the inhibitor rings to match Sonic's full power that comes at a cost), so what makes Sonic think it'll be the special case to let it be?
I love the simple but varied background characters nobody cares about. Some show more than others. 2:22 That goat/ram comes up numerous times in that part of the comic and doesn't do anything but I just love his design.
Actually, I thought of something. They showed us the metal sonic repair flashback that "brought him back". Also, I think Eggman is acting exaggeratedly and too aggressive after. Doesn't fit with the "ATTABOY" just before, I think. What if Tinker didn't die, just the memories came back and he thought that the best course of action is to pretend he came back? With the memories, Eggmans acting skill probably came back too.
I'm pretty sure that Metal Sonic retreating back to that base were Dr. Starline was using to remind eggman or Checked some systems in another base to find someone else being in that eggman base.
Uh..... there actually were Platypus characters in Archie Sonic. The main one was a Freedom Fighter named Bill The Platypus who would later become a Grandmaster to the Dark Egg Legion (though he was in this position as a cover so he could help his Freedom Fighter pals ruin Robotnik's plans)
I like how the title of this video obviously applies to Metal, yet if you think about it carefully, it also applies to Eggman. Sonic was faced with a moral dilemma concerning Mr. Tinker, made what he believed to be the right choice, and it backfired. Not only does Metal return in this comic because of Sonic's choices, but Eggman also does, albeit with a bit of help from some sinister others. Which of these is Sonic's greatest foe returning because of what he did as referenced in the title... is really up to the interpretation of the viewer.
Okay so I think the reason metal sonic went back to eggmans base wasn't because he knew eggman was there but because he knew he could bring his weapons back online there and go back out for his search for robotnik cause going to robotnik without weapons would be useless if he wasn't at his base and metal sonic had no idea where eggman was staying while he was mr tinker let alone who Mr tinker even is so that's my reasoning for why metal sonic just strolls into the base it's pure coincidence, starline brings tinker to the base to fix him and metal brings himself to the base to fix himself and they happen to run into each other setting everything in motion this coulda been conveyed better if metal sonic had a voice but it's implied pretty well through the art work
A little unrelated, but I do wanna say that I don't think humans should completely out of the picture. While we still have Eggman, Maria was an important character, Professor Pickles being a little less important, but still important enough to mention.

Metal sonic is Sonics one and true rival. Shadow the hedgehog is cool but before him it was metal sonic. Metal sonic was made to be everything sonic wasn't in terms of personality but still had the speed and power to match sonic blow for blow. He knows everything sonic is going to do because he is sonic. The more I read through the idw comics there more I feel as if metal sonic was done dirty in the modern games. He's kinda like a joke. Talk about what you will about the sonic animated movie of him but they did him justice. More so than any other media besides heroes. Metal Sonics backstory should be expanded upon and given more depth so he can be more than just a you know metal sonic. Maybe metal is a sonic from a bad future of maybe he's the real sonic and other other is a clone I just want him to have something more to do in modern sonic instead of being enemy folder like in forces. *thanks for coming to my ted talk*
He's one of many, but I believe they each serve a different and important purpose. Both for themselves as well as the challenge they represent for the hedgehog. Whether or not that's later capitalized on? Well that comes down to how well Sega manages the characters and stories. Metal is rad, but I do have a lot of respect for the others as well.
That's the thing though metal sonic is just sonic but metal honestly I see him more as an classic sonic villain not really a rival as he has the same purpose as any other robot its just he's more effective at it if you boil it down. Also I never saw why he needed to appear in the modern era as Shadow has effectively taken his rival status for modern sonic.
I think what happened as far as metal sonic knowing where to go to find Eggman was by happenstance…he probably just flew there since it was the nearest repair station/ Eggman warehouse/ laboratory and the doctor just so happen to be there…either that or it could’ve been implied in his conversation with Sonic that he was alive but not himself. Could probably use a cartoon based on this comic that fleshes it out.
Sonic might be my favorite character but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy seeing his friends, I like the whole sonic cast and they’re fleshed out enough for me to want to see them more
In the defense of the use of gems, that’s what the sonic world is built on. The magic gems. I have a feeling that theirs going to be more gems, and maybe even add some context as to why they do this, like how the planet attracts meteors with more of these gems. But the world is based on these gems, so I believe there will be more to come.

As I see it, Metal Sonic only finds Eggman because it returns to the same base where he resides at the moment more of a coincidence rather than a thoughtful act; what ever the reason I think it is as much relevant as the comics mentions it.

6:34-6:38 I always enjoy seeing Sonic and Silver team up. An underrated, yet unique duo. One of them is a cool, confident teen with a bit of an ego, while the other is a shy, dorky teen who's humble. Ever since Sonic saved Silver from Infinite in Forces, I've wanted to see more of those two hedgehogs working together and IDW successfully delivered. There were certain moments during the Zombot arc when Silver was there to save Sonic whenever he was in a dire situation. The relationship that Sonic and Silver have provides great chemistry and entertainment.
Fun Fact: Silver's theme (Dreams of an Absolution) is a gay romance song. The singer (Bentley Jones) himself made a video explaining the origin of that song. If you've heard that song before, you'll know it's a remix of Green Hill Zone. Dreams of an Absolution is what defines Silver as a character. The word "absolution" means to forgive, atone, or repent. The "Green Hill" aspect of the song is a subtle hint to who Silver's in love with. Overall, Dreams of an Absolution is a story about a naive, insecure time traveller who wants to make up for what he did wrong in '06 (trying to kill the "Iblis Trigger" A.K.A. Sonic).

Like so many other franchises such as Batman and Doctor Who, Sonic has shown compassion towards great enemies, wanting to see the good in them, and all this does it cost our hero more death, destruction and pain further down the line when evil rises yet again.
Funny, you comparing Starline to an Eggman-fanboy version of Snively is basically how I explained the character to my sister. Though, I think it might be more apt to compare him to a less blind Grimer from the UK comic series.
Either way, IDW got off to a fantastic start on its original characters!

@@braintwo3398 To be fair it helped out in the end a few times, but the biggest difference here is that Sonic did it for compassion, whereas Goku did it because he's even more of a thrillseeker when it comes to fighting than Tangle is about adventuring (though luckily, also about as chill).

Huh, funny. I've never read the IDW comics before, so I never heard of the gem that can open portals across the world, and seeing how he uses it reminds me of one of my oc's abilities. He can also open up portals to any point in time, but his portals can allow him to go across time and space.
I, also, think that the game gear minis are ridiculous in terms of pricing, battery life, and overall practicality.

Im still surprised by how much I enjoy Starline as a character. A terrifyingly competent enemy held back by his need for praise from his hero. What are your thoughts on the different character designs they had for him? Seems they went through a couple designs before settling on the one in the comic. Is this one your favorite or would you have preferred one of the other designs?

I’m not too sure about that. Goku was fighting a complete stranger for the most part who had already killed a number of people. However, the very first incarnation of Metal Sonic willingly saved Sonic’s life during their first encounter, so I’d say that there’s definitely a credence for Sonic sparing Metal.
@@donovanlarsen7982 was this in super? Cus if so, in goku’s defense, aren’t most of his friends ex enemies or rivals? Vegeta literally fits that description and he became literally the only other character who can keep up with him. Hell, Freeza ended up being a temporary ally. I can’t blame him for being hesitate either.

I swear, I mourn Mr Tinker so badly. I loved him and I want him back, one way or another. As Eggman redeemed, as another clueless Eggman, or heck, even Eggman's clone that went rogue. I love Mr Tinker, he deserved so much better.
9:00 This whole thing with Sonic fixing Metal Sonic and setting him free thing is really out of character for him, and exists purely to artificially guilt trip Sonic later. He's never treated Metal Sonic as anything more than just one of Eggman's toys and never thought he could be redeemed, nor has he ever gone out of his way to do so. He's always had to be told by others not to. Really hate it, because it exists just so they can say "well Sonic, if you didn't free him, he wouldn't have brought Eggman back" which itself was contrived that he just magically can find Eggman when he was looking for him for months after Eggman went AWOL and couldn't, let alone that Metal Sonic was the thing that happened to jog his memory and bring him back.

What if Tinker didn't die, just the memories came back and he thought that the best course of action is to pretend he came back? With the memories, Eggmans acting skill probably came back too.

Uh..... there actually were Platypus characters in Archie Sonic. The main one was a Freedom Fighter named Bill The Platypus who would later become a Grandmaster to the Dark Egg Legion (though he was in this position as a cover so he could help his Freedom Fighter pals ruin Robotnik's plans)

I like how the title of this video obviously applies to Metal, yet if you think about it carefully, it also applies to Eggman. Sonic was faced with a moral dilemma concerning Mr. Tinker, made what he believed to be the right choice, and it backfired. Not only does Metal return in this comic because of Sonic's choices, but Eggman also does, albeit with a bit of help from some sinister others. Which of these is Sonic's greatest foe returning because of what he did as referenced in the title... is really up to the interpretation of the viewer.
Okay so I think the reason metal sonic went back to eggmans base wasn't because he knew eggman was there but because he knew he could bring his weapons back online there and go back out for his search for robotnik cause going to robotnik without weapons would be useless if he wasn't at his base and metal sonic had no idea where eggman was staying while he was mr tinker let alone who Mr tinker even is so that's my reasoning for why metal sonic just strolls into the base it's pure coincidence, starline brings tinker to the base to fix him and metal brings himself to the base to fix himself and they happen to run into each other setting everything in motion this coulda been conveyed better if metal sonic had a voice but it's implied pretty well through the art work
A little unrelated, but I do wanna say that I don't think humans should completely out of the picture. While we still have Eggman, Maria was an important character, Professor Pickles being a little less important, but still important enough to mention.

like it took eggman seeing metal sonic to snap him back to normal( do love it shows dr. eggman has care to metal sonic & similar to dr. wily he would be a groundbreaking benefactor to the world that'd get the respect he wanted if he gave up trying to take over the world/lowered his anger towards their blue enemies enough to talk to them fully without just saying they feel better being evil when he's lost enough times.) instead of the rather creepy shock therapy that unfazed him which really says a lot about his iron determination even with amnesia.

I'm guessing this was SEGA's meddling. Back in the old days, Sonic would just destroy Metal, and Eggman would build a new one. But I think SEGA wants to push the narrative that it's the same robot every time

I woulda assumed after heroes the version of metal we see from heroes onwards would of had the ability the scan and absorb energy it had been iterating since knuckles chaotix removed because it was too dangerous because how neo metal sonic overthrew him as those abilities haven’t been seen since excluding sonic mania but if it makes for a good story arc
i wish there was more sonic 3 and knuckles by far iv'e watched the 1 hour one unapologetic multiple times now and i certainly wish there was more to it and I know its demanding sense there is pretty much not more to talk about, but it just goes to show how great sonic 3 and knuckles was and how much this channel showed me how great it was thank you game apologist

Metal sonic was made to be everything sonic wasn't in terms of personality but still had the speed and power to match sonic blow for blow.

The more I read through the idw comics there more I feel as if metal sonic was done dirty in the modern games.

Talk about what you will about the sonic animated movie of him but they did him justice.

Metal Sonics backstory should be expanded upon and given more depth so he can be more than just a you know metal sonic.

He's one of many, but I believe they each serve a different and important purpose. Both for themselves as well as the challenge they represent for the hedgehog. Whether or not that's later capitalized on? Well that comes down to how well Sega manages the characters and stories.
Metal is rad, but I do have a lot of respect for the others as well.
That's the thing though metal sonic is just sonic but metal honestly I see him more as an classic sonic villain not really a rival as he has the same purpose as any other robot its just he's more effective at it if you boil it down. Also I never saw why he needed to appear in the modern era as Shadow has effectively taken his rival status for modern sonic.

I think what happened as far as metal sonic knowing where to go to find Eggman was by happenstance…he probably just flew there since it was the nearest repair station/ Eggman warehouse/ laboratory and the doctor just so happen to be there…either that or it could’ve been implied in his conversation with Sonic that he was alive but not himself.
Could probably use a cartoon based on this comic that fleshes it out.

In the defense of the use of gems, that’s what the sonic world is built on. The magic gems. I have a feeling that theirs going to be more gems, and maybe even add some context as to why they do this, like how the planet attracts meteors with more of these gems. But the world is based on these gems, so I believe there will be more to come.
