Extremely happy to see that this seems to be common issue. Replaced a DIR-655 back in July with this as the 655 kept kicking wireless clients off due to lack of internal memory. The N66U has been chugging along just fine with no dropped clients except ports 3 & 4 are having the exact same issue you showed. I thought the ethernet cord had gone bad to my bedroom and ordered a couple new ones and the problem persisted. Guess I'm stuck with using a wireless adapter as an RMA would cost me downtime.
Having the same Problem. I also bought one for my mom so I will be checking hers as well. Don't really feel like dealing with RMA unless it becomes more of an issue. Glad to know I'm not the only one
Thanks! I will be posting more complaints in the future about other things. This sort of thing happens to me on a daily basis, but finally I decided to "go public" about something on RUclips. Happy to see I'm not alone with this issue. Thanks again for the kind words.
Just installed one yesterday did notice some finicky play, tried Cat 6/5 variations and stuck with those that seem to stay put. This reminds of an issue back in my comm days with NBase switches (just an inferior supplier and thousands of units that had to be replaced). I buy ASUS for quality and not for issues like this. Unit is going back. Thanks for posting.....
Looks like they've fix it now as seen in this video I just took Asus RT-N66U has repaired the RJ-45 jack problems Different LAN jack manufacturer on the latest revision of this router
I had Amazon exchange mine for another RT N66U. The second one had the same problem. I then bought a RT N66R (retail model--identical to N66U) from BestBuy. Same problem. . ASUS sent me email to send them pix and stuff and maybe they'll replace it. They offered to check it before sending it to me. They said they tested with 10 random units and no problem. Totally flabbergasted.
ve7lyd is correct, it looks like ASUS has fixed this issue with its latest batch. If you look close and it says "3x3" on the top right of the router face, it is a newer model. I bought the same one again from the same place and was very happy to find it was fixed. See ve7lyd's video for more detailed information.
I had same issue. I tried 2 different factory made cables with the same result. I then tried a cable I made myself (I am a network tech) and have not had disconnects. The RJ-45 plugs should be the same size, but for what ever reason..... If that had not worked, I would have returned the router.
I just returned one with the exact same problem (except mine would never show it was connected). I replaced it with the same model, thinking it was an isolated incident. The replacement has the exact same problem. These are definitely faulty.
I have the Asus RT-AC66U... and it is the same... thinking of buying a new one but the wifi is still good... so I might just buy a wifi adapter for my PC.
I bought a second one and the 5ghz radio doesn't work. Aside from motherboards I'm not buying another ASUS product again. TP-Link's Archer C7 is now my go-to router for this kind of custom firmware use. Good luck.
If ASUS can't figure out what's going on from this video, I think it's time they stopped making anything other than motherboards. Actually, I already think this. I have one of their notebooks and I can't believe how much of a shoddy piece of crap this thing is.

i'm glad you decided to "go public" and also excited for other rants about shoddy workmanship.

The label on the back of mine says production year was 2017 and I see the same issue.
