  • Mike Rutherford visits Hever Castle in Kent to check out the gorgeous looking 1998 model Audi A6 and finds out if it is the epitome of modern engineering. He'll be speaking to Len Hunt, who's the director of Audi UK, about why they decided to bring out this model at this stage of the car's cycle and what they're hoping to achieve with it. Plus, Ian puts the car's performance and handling to the test, as well as seeing how practical it is. The model tested is equipped with a 2.4 litre V6 engine, which is capable of producing around 165bhp.

Timeless design makes this car not just the most beautiful of all A6 generations, but also one of the most beautiful cars ever made in general. In terms of the engine, I would always opt for the naturally aspirated V6 and with manual transmission, of course.

I bought a 2000 A6 2.7t with 115k on it a year and a half ago.. I love it. Comfortable, powerful(chipped ecu brings it to a badass level) handles like a much lighter car, and quattro on snow is amazing. I've owned close to 30 cars in the last 22 years and it is my favorite by far.

Haven’t found our gear change jerky at all. Don’t need to check what gear you’re in. Go with your own sense of what gear you need, move the shifter to the right and push forward or pull back. Simple.

Well E39 5 series from BMW was and still is a better car in this class. Not to take away anything from A6 tho, it's a great car. Much better than most current plastic filled underengineered German cars.
