Timeless design makes this car not just the most beautiful of all A6 generations, but also one of the most beautiful cars ever made in general. In terms of the engine, I would always opt for the naturally aspirated V6 and with manual transmission, of course.
and still, just bought the 2.7 bi turbo quattro avant version. painted front and rear bumpers and larger wheels is all you need to bring it up to date!
Yes absolutely "A great car." No doubt. YOu always need a great mechanic someone who pays attention to detail. I have one of these that fell into my care. I am considering fix Need a great mechanic.
I bought a 2000 A6 2.7t with 115k on it a year and a half ago.. I love it. Comfortable, powerful(chipped ecu brings it to a badass level) handles like a much lighter car, and quattro on snow is amazing. I've owned close to 30 cars in the last 22 years and it is my favorite by far.
@@lucinda846 not in the second half of the 90's. The competition was so strong, that deciding a winner among Audi A8, BMW 750 and Mercedes S500 was a headache.
Currently own one of these, a 2.8 petrol at that. It's amazing. They fail to mention the built in ash trays, 1 front 2 back. As well as a few other small features that are just make it pop
Haven’t found our gear change jerky at all. Don’t need to check what gear you’re in. Go with your own sense of what gear you need, move the shifter to the right and push forward or pull back. Simple.
Well E39 5 series from BMW was and still is a better car in this class. Not to take away anything from A6 tho, it's a great car. Much better than most current plastic filled underengineered German cars.

Mines a 2.8 manual, shortly to have s6 lump and 6 speed in it. They handle brilliantly for a big girl(quattro)
This was the era when VW Group products were actually well built and reliable.
I have the A6 2.7T with 234k miles and still runs strong with no problems
i have the 98 Audi a6 2.8L(C5) Quattro....got it back in 2012....RUNS great 180XXXmiles#greatcar
On my second manual 2.8 quattro, 150k, love the thing, built like a tank
Just bought my 4th A6 C5 (2.5tdi Quattro Tiptronic), fantastic cars!
Mercs S class, best in its class. A6 best in its class. Series 3, best in its class.
Phaeton best in its class better than sclass, brainless people didn't buy it

Bought it in 2018 .... still nice wheels and 2.4 v6 makes a smooth ride
consumes much? want to buy one too.
I just bought a 99 a,6 with 148, and miles.awd love it so far for ,$300.00
Always to my mind a far better looking car and technical more advanced car of its time than the BMW's or Mercedes were.
Mark Turner-smith Naaaaa
What are you talking about, Its not techincaly more advanced at all..?
BMW E39 it is a more advanced and a much better car.
i have the same car but 2004 and its awesome smooth and fast car... i love this car...
It's very difficult to see your gear when the LCD start fading too lol. Great cars though the 2.8 once you get all the plagues of cam tensioner leaks.
They aren't that bad to do TBF,

Apart from the auto trans and 2.5TDI engine its a great car
I am intending to purchase this car and have an 80 Cabrio, thankfully many oem parts still avail esp from China
Супер машина даже в 2018 году актуальная и модная

I've still got my 99 Audi A6 1.8T auto triptronic lovely car just a bit underpowered due to its weight.

True, BMW E39 a better car in every respect.
Unless you need awd
The BMW was the benchmark (ultimate driving machine) though I prefer the more elegant Audi design, it has aged quite nicely, inside and out.
"The 1.8, that's a 5 valve" so are the other 2 engines, why was this never marketed?
Cosa può essere che a minimo ha alti e bassi
Old hat by then, Yamaha started that In 87/88
@@johnking1381 The 1.8 20V was marketed that way though
Excellant voiture jai une en 2003
its*
Beautiful car but, despite its “galvanised” body, wheel arches and doors rusted as fast as a Fiat Strada….
muito bom.

Unreliable, bland and overpriced yet people still love it
Typical badge snobs
It's a great car buddy, as we say here in my country, the fox couldn't reach the grapes so it said "it's too sour anyway" ;)
