    I have been watching you for a couple years and I have to say your amazing. I love how you explain everything for us clueless Americans that never had gotten to travel to see anything like you show. I want to thank you for that.
    I think they left all those clothes because they only took what they could take if they did “flee” and what did they care about leaving any of that behind? When you are rich all those material items can be replaced.

    It breaks my heart to see these beautiful abandoned residences. The reason is sometimes simple, you should know that in Portugal, when the parents are deceased, the children do not pay inheritance rights, so they do not have the need to sell or maintain the property to pay notary fees, resulting in thousands of abandoned houses in Portugal!

      Is that so? That's sad. It breaks my heart too. I always dream about how life used to be when original owners lived at those places.

      Really! How odd and wasteful, considering the recent hardships for Portuguese in paying rent or buying homes. I read that's one reason why they pushed government to change golden visa system - foreigners were driving up prices of rent & purchase. Many citizens are on weak minimum wage, read a story of a nurse working double shifts and about to be evicted from her apartment due to increased rent. And Indian labour flocking in masses plus wealthy indians (who get rich from corruption & theft) make it worse for locals,

    When i had visited Portugal, the family i visited had a corner fireplace in the guest bedrm. It is the only country where i have actually seen this. .. yes, marble is very inexpensive in Portugal, or at least when i visited. A relative had some furniture pieces topped w/marble, then shipped back to the states.

    Did you know you can have the wine analyzed for chemical make up and reproduce the exact recipe? My friends did this with Roses bourbon. The barrels, if filled, can be worth up to 10,000. Dollars each. They contain years of work to get perfection. I really enjoyed this video. Also the jugs laying around are highly collectible and sell for big bucks.

    My favorite is the hidden wine cellar.
    I was young and went in Germany on the Mosel river Close to a wine cellar to sample wine.
    The deeper I went the better an aged the wine was. As I went outside I feeling the alcohol taking full effect 😞.

  • @mikehamilton6259
    @mikehamilton6259 Год назад +2

    Bro Leslie, just so you know for future reference, the best way to uncork a wine bottle, especially Champagne, is to firmly grasp the cork, then twist the bottle and not the cork. This is especially important for Champagne because it will prevent the cork from causing damage to the ceiling, amongst other things like lights, chandeliers, etc.

      @patriciamariemitchel Год назад

      @@christerstabis3187, I thought the window was in like a hallway. Oh, a courtyard entryway? But it's a strange window, not meant to be looked through, but to appear to be something more like a drainage vent? If someone looked in there they might not know what they were looking at. 32:25

    • @christerstabis3187
      @christerstabis3187 Год назад

      @@patriciamariemitchel Yes, the window may be for venting. I don't know. But it is the wine cellar, as he says in the video, right after your time mark. As long as someone got light there would be easy to see that it is a wine cellar. So I still don't think it is secret, unless there was another wall outside of the window in an earlier age (which I can not see right now there has been).

    Amazing work, you guys! So much fun to watch, so many beautiful things! I don’t care for alcohol, but that moment in a dusty wine cellar was magical! Also, the picture made to cover the electrical box blew me away, such a cool trick

    I wonder if they were involved in something illegal, that is why they left!

    I think someone in the family was in trouble with the law and they were literally running for their lives. Purely speculation but why else
    Wouldn’t you come back or sell the house? Or avoiding a family secret being exposed?

    Who knows why these people just left never to return. Very strange. That was great when you both tryed the wine. I wondered if you guys would ever do that. Im sure it was good. I would have tryed it with you both. Good show this week. Hey stay safe we will see you next week. Thanks

    A truly fascinating glimpse into the past, the abandoned mansion of a wealthy Portuguese family. Nice work. Thanks.

    I clicked "Like"....because it was another amazing video.
    I love the tenderness you both show for the house and the lives of the people who have since passed. If I had seen this house by myself I would not think too much about it, but you have a way of bringing these houses back to life. You are a great historian in that you recreate what life might have been for the people in the house and suddenly the place feel so human and leaves me with a touch of sadness for the inhabitants who are long gone.
    It makes it so cool to explore these houses with you both.
    Well done!
