A most excellent video! I really like the idea of making my own specialty tools from older tools that I either have a surplus of or have outlived their original intended purpose. Plus, it gives me an excuse to rev-up my wood lathe.
cutting that slot on a mill is a great idea. I made a smaller version of this not long ago and cut the slot with a hacksaw. first I bent the tip (30ish degrees) and cut the slot parallel to that bend about half way through the material. bent it back the other way and honed the bottom flat until the groove poked through thus avoiding that initial hollow grind. i'll try it your way when i make a bigger edge beveler

Hey Josh! Glad to hear you make your own tools too!
Thanks for the quick and simple video! Imagining myself slipping and sticking the thing into my hand at the end there :D
Yeah, I may have done that once, or twice with one of the first bevelers I made...lol
very INFORMATIVE and your skill and understanding IMPRESSIVE. I am sure there are MANY MANY other tools you can build.
Hi Peter! Thank you!
thats really cool, i may do that someday when I have a better shop
Thanks, Milo. You can still make one with basic tools. Just takes some ingenuity and elbow grease.
great idea, thanks from Scotland! I was going to use a flathead screwdriver but this is easier to know it's got enough carbon.
Hey Oliver! Flathead screwdriver would work too. Same deal just make sure its made out of tool steel.
oh snap, I have an entire drawer full of allen wrenches I've saved over the decades.
Right!? Hoarding tools and materials pays off!
Awesome
Great video I have made two of them blame things and neither one worth a crap
Hey Michael! Sorry to hear that. You tried the method shown in my video? Maybe I'm missing some detail that may help you.
Wonderful!!!!
How about taking a whack at making a stitch groover???
I can't find a single how to on it anywhere.
Thank you! Now that is an idea. I'll have to play around and see if I can make something worth making a video of.
@@TwistedOakHandmade 👍
Great video can you show us how to make a curved awl
Hi Joe! I'll keep this in mind for one of my videos. Should be easy enough to make but I'll have to make a test piece first. Thanks!
Awsome Thanks
Owh looks like I only have 1/5 of the tools you have 😂
Part of the hobby is collecting tools too...lol
Beside if the tool is working or not... do not use it pushing AGAINST your hand... much better pushing it AWAY !
Absolutely correct!
But what if I want to add bevels to my long pig body leather? :O
Hmmm. Ok. Think i go and buy one instead. To much work. Thx for the video
Agreed! But fun to make.
Lg
Nice tool. You need to cut away from your hand. I held my breath the entire time 😮
