Hmmm, Fuji X-T3 + Acros is stealing the show of the Leica monochrome :-)
It's lovely
No
@@Ruylopez778 Dude, try to develop a sense of humor.
Indeed. I know we are looking at RUclips compression but it is hard to see how the M10D output is 5x better than the XT3 with Acros.
@@garycraggs9953 It's not an M10D. It has a new 40mp sensor (compared to XT3 26mp)
Bigger sensor than APSC
3 stops more dynamic range than XT3
ISO to 100,000
You can't 'simulate' that with a Fuji filter.
And when selling or trading it in, it will be worth 5x the XT3.
You admit that YT is compressing the images and then say it's hard to see how the output is better? Why not look at an actual file online?
'My Toyota Corolla does 95% of what a Rolls Royce can do.' Yes, of course it does.
You guys should really film more with Fuji. Fuji footage always looks really good.
Damn that acros is beautiful, that segment from 2:18 looks amazing.
Filmed with XT3, but XT4 in other hand :)
🤣
Hahaha totally.
You just need to get an X-T3 and stop messing around with Sony.
XT5 is going to be your perfect camera
After watching this episode, I decide to buy a Fujifilm XT3
The Acros simulation is breathtaking.
Uuuhh man, ACROS looks so damn sexy!!
This XT3 Acros simulation looks absolutely gorgeous in this wintery wet city of yours. The Leica thing pales in comparison. Congrats to the videographer!
Thanks!
@@thatjordandrake Which lens did you use on the Fuji Jordan? And which Fuji lenses are the best for zero motor noise?
@@Skidoo22 The newer ones with LM in the name are low-noise. The older ones like those with the clutch-like focus rings have very loud AF motors.
forget the $5000 camera. WOW, the Acros from the XT3 video is stunning. I guess the xt4 will be even better and no tripod needed. You guys get your hands on an xt4 next week? please
do a field test as well as normal spec stuff. I think a lot of us are anxious to see the XT4 in action marty sender you tube
I don't understand the math. If a sensor with red and green and blue goes monochrome. When it goes monochrome does it have 1/3 less resolution. Or does the going to monochrome average all the pixels. That's what I would do. I wouldn't turn 3 or 5 pixels or whatever it is. Into the monochrome value of those pixels. I would look at the pixels nearby. So if there was a gradient. As I turned by 3 to 5 pixels into monochrome. They would not be a blob with one gray luminous value. They would take on and the gradient nearby. Do you know what I mean?
@@Smoothblue90 the laica has a monocrome sensor. It's pixels(there are no.subpixels) only are sensors for luminance. They do not capture different channels of light separately
Fuji = Acros =ultimate black and white, sorry Leica. I love my classic M6 and I know that it's increasing in value all the time unlike this m10 once the m11 comes out, 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧Trump 2020
New Acros is made in the UK. Fuji don't care about film only simulations
@@Ruylopez778. Very interesting, I still have stocks of the original film which I am slowly working through.
Yes...balloons...for filter tests...Yes.
Wow, i really like that X-T3.
Very nice, but very expensive. I wish Fujifilm would release a Monochrome only X-Pro or X100 camera at a lower price point...
The problem with Jordan's reviews of all Leicas is that he sees them through the filter of modern digital cameras and specification box-checking. Those are not the primary reasons you get a Leica.
To be fair, he is reviewing a modern digital camera 🤷♂️
Hope you guys enjoyed that “filter” test ;-)
X-T3 really shoots beautiful footages.
Best aps-c sensor camera ever made, I think so
@@IndigoChannel1 until the X-T4 gets released :P
@@chadmander15 X-T4 has same sensor, same processor.
@@TechReflex and? The X-T4 is still going to be better than the X-T3 in regards to video specs, IBIS, and battery life.
@@chadmander15 Thanks so much. It could be the perfect aps-c sensor camera using the fujijilm IBIS that you cand find at x-1h fuji. and a tilting screen. But, nothing is perfect.. we don´t know if we need to wait more time for something like that. that depends if Fujifilm want to give us something like a gfx100 with a aps-c sensor and tilting screen
this episode really makes me want to go take some photos!
The reason DPreview videos with Chris and Jordan are the only ones that allow comments are because the only thing people would comment on the others is "Where's Chris and Jordan?"
Leicas dont need Ibis. I wouldnt mind if the m11 wouldnt have a dial. If you want useless features buy a Lumix, Canon, Nikon....
Moritz Ott ibis is not at all useless, but you are correct that the m10 does not need it
@@Van-yo2xr i didnt say its useless :) of course its got a purpose, especially for video
Moritz Ott you said don’t need ibis go to canon for useless stuff so I assumed IBIS was on that list. My b
You guys convinced me! Now I really want a Fuji! Great work by Jordan. I can't wait for the XT-4. I can't even remember the camera Chris was talking about.
Always enjoy your reviews, even if I do miss the electric bass intro from your "past life". ;) As to the camera, I think I'll stick to the M10 I currently own on pain of murder-by-wife!
Well Done. Love your review style, fun and informative! 👊🏼
As a Leica owner with an M240, I have never really liked the external EVF. Not that it is not effective in helping to focus and compose a scene, because it is. Rather, that for me, it does away with the Rangefinder experience and becomes another mirrorless. And it's not that I would consider myself a purist (I own other mirrorless cameras), but rather that if you are to make a rangefinder, then keep it as a rangefinder and improve that optical viewfinder. Fujifilm did it, and at a significantly lower price point. Leica has the technology, but chooses not to do it, placing that EVF bulb on top of the camera. They should change that to keep the camera low-profile and true to the rangefinder form factor.
100%, always seemed weird to me why leica haven't attempted their own hybrid viewfinder, especially on their Q cameras
Thanks for the vídeo, guys. ;)
You've got a bunch of good shots here, and a handful of reaaally good shots, here. I personally really enjoyed the one with the kid on the underpass, and with the kid with the droplets/bokeh balls behind him. Awesome shots ;)
I'll wait for the Fuji version of this, as it has been unofficially confirmed.
Speaking of Fuji.. Great footage with the XT3 shooting video, here.
Cheers from Portugal ;)
Nice black paint summaron
That camera looks stunning, but the real champ here is that Acros from the X-T3 😍
I wish I could afford this camera, but I am happy with my PEN-F, it takes beautiful B&W images also.
I liked that changeover to B&W in the intro. For bonus marks, the DPReview logo, which followed, should also have been B&W!
Acros is gorgeous... I’m more amazed with the xt3 video rendition than the Leica by itself haahha
Nice review, guys👍😎! I really like the portraits!!!
This video makes me want to take video with my X-T2, I’ve never done it
Yo, you 100% should
Even in 2020, it's a great video platform. Don't shoot F-log though, it sucks on the XT2 and XH1. Rather, shoot in Proneg standard or Classic Chrome with the flattest settings. I find the footage to be quite robust even after colorgrading. Have fun!
The Fuji video looks nicer than the Leica stills.
the RAW files must be black and white too, that's so cool
Karan Chaudhary they are. The sensor literally does not have an RGB color filter on it, so it only senses light and dark (and all the variations of “greys” in between).
Mmm photography is art , the equipment doesn’t have to be practical or value for money, just has to be want you want it to be ..
And what with artists being famous for having so much money...
Pics do look amazing. I wonder how the X100V + suitable b&w preset would compare.
Paulo Lima the video was shot in acros, which is Fuji’s best monochrome preset. It should be a pretty good sense of how Fuji B&W looks
Good comprising Fuji vs Leica =)
As usual I didn’t pay attention to the start of the video and missed what this was shot with (assuming it was on screen somewhere, or was said). Then at the end I’m like, this has to be a Fujifilm camera with Acros. I’m actually recognizing the look of it now even though I don’t use it often. Looks nice!
Love the idea of this camera. Going to go home and put my 17mm (34 mm equivalent) on my Olympus M5 Mark II. And put it on RAW with monochrome picture profile. And go out and about.
First from The Caribbean area lol. Waving from The Bahamas :)
I still would prefer converting colored to BW for color filter simulation.
Or just shoot real film which no sensor can simulate.
Acros actually looks really good
Make a Q2 Monochrome and I am a buyer.
Fell in love with this concept after using the first Monochrom. It's the only digital camera I own now, love it! Especially when combined with old lenses from the 50s/60s. Thank you for the review!
When you're reviewing an $8K camera and everyone is more in love with the results of the $1000 camera recording the review!😂
Many of the pictures shown used higher than required ISO for the scene. Why? 2nd, at 7:14, the delay waiting to see the picture just taken really should be an easy fix with a firmware update and I am surprised being on a camera of this cost.
I was curious about this, though I couldn't afford it. I had been pushing Fujifilm to make a monochrome version of the x100 series, which would be cool, but as you say, you're then stuck with using screw on filters. I wonder if there is a difference between using, say, a yellow optical filter on a monochrome sensor, and applying a "yellow filter" or bias in post on a Bayer sensor?
It looks like the review was more about the XT-3 then M10 ???
Great footage ....
Man, ACROS blows my mind...
There are far better cameras with more buttons and "ibis" for far less money. All of that detracts from the M experience in my opinion. That experience being capturing moments rather than tweaking settings.
I think you missed the lack of Bayer filter, which is the MAIN BENEFIT of a Monochrom!!
Leica if your listening
Please Please make a

Eyes ain't getting younger
Leica will introduce SL2 Mono. Late 2021, expected date
@@LeicaReview First, you have a great YT channel.
Discovered/Subcribed a couple months ago.
I hope this your statement comes true.
Will change my purchasing plans immediately.
I'm not going to complain about Chris's not complaining
Man this XT3 Acros footage looks amazing.
I love the black and white in this Leica monochrom video so much, I'll switch to Acros on my Fuji XT-3 right now! Fortune saved.
cropped sensor jpg isn't quite the same though is it? And you don't have an optical finder
@@Ruylopez778 This was not a comment meant for hair splitting. And about that optical viewfinder: X-Pro 1, 2, 3, my man.
@@JohannesLabusch Well your comment was about saving a fortune. You only "save" a fortune if you're comparing like for like.
Yes, you get an optical viewfinder on an X-Pro - but you don't get a rangefinder mechanism, you get a 'by wire' simulation.
And you don't have an X-Pro, you have an XT.
@@Ruylopez778 Leica aficionados are rumored to be a little hair-splitty, and you're starting to deserve that reputation. I have an X-Pro1, and an X-T3. Let's please not get crazy with this back-and-forth. I know that my black and white photos are not good enough to be pushed that millimeter closer to perfection by an 8000$ camera. That's all.
@@JohannesLabusch And what are Fuji X users rumored to be?
Zealous?
X-Pro 1 has a 16mp cropped sensor. It doesn't really compete with this camera in terms of IQ.
Digital Leicas are way overpriced, no doubt. And Fuji's faux film, faux Leica/TX/RTS offer 90% of the Leica experience.
But if you want a mechanical rangefinder experience then the Fuji falls short.
"closer to perfection"
It's the photographer that gets the shot, not the gear.
Back and forth? You told me to "try to develop a sense of humor"
Can't wait for your X-T4 review coming out next Thursday? ^_
Low light shooting with a monochrome sensor is just insanely good. I shot the M10 Monochrome in a pitch black area on ISO 50k and it was clear as FUUUUUUUUCK
M JP ya even the M246 Monochrome has really clean files up to 8000 ISO and even 10,000 ISO works well a lot of the time. Banding sets in at 12,000 ISO though. To be fair though, most cameras look like trash past 6400 ISO (some even sooner than 6400).
Too bad we don't have alternatives from other major suppliers at "reasonable" prices.
Your film making talents really shine between 3:47 and 3:57. An example of off-the-chart artistic merits. Rich in human quality and personality. This reminds me of a previous masterpiece of yours when you did the Goodfellas "you are a funny guy" remake. Please consider making more short films - as illustrations of what particular cameras can do. That will provide so much artistic and technical inspirations, as you already have. Thank you.
Shame that more manufacturers do stuff like this.
A digital b&w Pentax Spotmatic, Nikon FM etc. would have been something!
i'll switch my fuji x-e1 to mono instead, awaiting the forthcoming x-eM(onochrome)...
Excellent review! Makes me want one. Are Chris's lymph glands swollen?
The Acros comes across so good. Pun not intended.
That Acros though
Fuji Acros BW looks better than Leica M10 Monochrom. Way more pleasing. Leica looks muddy, no whites.
Is it really pronounced "monoCHROME" and not "mono-Crom"? I mean, there's not E at the end so.....
I dunno...
BTW, This is one of those things in life that I feel I would LOVE to have, but would NEVER be able to afford. I want a black and white only digital camera. :(
Love that column bw switch.
The Leica is way out of my $ range. I just watch anything you guys put out!!! Jordan, how do you like shooting Fuji? I have A73 but thinking about getting the X-T4 in March for wedding video
I enjoy shooting Fuji, I just wish it had some of the assist tools I use all the time on the Panasonics (waveform, shutter angle, vectorscope).
aceflibble good point!
When he puts the $8k camera on the light post O_O
yeah but really that acros simulation OOOOOOO.ooooo
We all need to secure something with an m5 screw rigjht i the head of camera body. Ridiculus and just a pure designe feat. I cant for my life ever seen a need for such a screw in face plate of a camera body. At 9000 Euro, but look you do get a m5 screw.
The reason I shoot film because I could shoot real Black and White.
I don't have a dog in this fight, but the Acros film sim stole the show for me. Congrats to Jordan. What a good eye.
Very good program dealing, at last, with some important issues shootin B&W in the camera.
With Sony, you complain about the silliest things, but Leica always gets a pass even though they have a lot of issues that nobody would tolerate in a Sony.
Im in black an White right now which means only one thing, we're shooting with the Fuji X-T3 Acros.

Which fast 64gb sd card do you recommend with Leica M10 monochrom?
Thank god this video is over ! I thought I went colour blind .
I wish i could afford Leica
I really enjoyed this x-t3 footage.
ACROS 😍😍😍
I especially liked the transition at the beginnig.
I'm sorry Leica we have Fuji Medium Format now.
Can these be just a regular DPR article? The rambling just takes up way too much time. I watched 20 seconds, stopped it, and wrote this. I did download with with a youtube downloader and I'm gonna skim it reallllyy fast in a video viewer.
I would compose a snarky rebuttal for your completely off-base opinion, but... I really can't improve on your signature.
There is people out there that still believe that DPReview's reviews are genuine? Years ago I bought the infamous Leica M8, of course for DPReview the camera was fantastic (or fantastic was the money Leica paid for the 'review'). Well, sold the M8 a few months after and, after some time, bought an M9. Now I shot with Sony A7rii, Leica is today, nothing more than a hype.
A major piano manufacturer just brought out a new piano. It's called the Stornway Monochrom piano. It has all the black keys missing. They put the price up to convince you that less is more. Now you can only play in the key of C major. Apparently it's a unique selling point. Thousands of "musicians" flocked to buy it, believing that removing the ability to modulate or play in all colours and keys was a benefit. And all the music journalists wrote rave reviews. In other news, pianists queued up to have their third and fourth fingers amputated. They argued that removing fingers enabled them to appreciate the remaining fingers better. Somehow, they felt it was more artistic.
Increasing B&W contrast on a colour file in post?? No no... You will get weird white lines between the different subjects. This is exactly why you NEED a monochrome camera with filters. 👍🏼✨
I cannot see any difference to the Panasonic L Monochrome, and the Panasonic is far far cheaper.
I can not tell the difference between the b&w footage, and the b@w images taken.
Why are you giving this camera such a gentle review when its clearly crap. If that have a different brand logo on it you would have ripped into it.
Unbelievably pretentious and bad camera all around. And that lack of colour making post processing BW options not possible is a crack up. Worst BW camera on the market as a result right there.
Ripoff.
As much as I like shooting in b/w this thing seems to be horrendously impractical. I have to put on an external EVF to see what I am going to receive in a viewfinder? I'd rather use an old film Leica and a cheap mirrorless, maybe one with a highresmode to digitalize the negatives later.
You could do more videos in b/w. It's so much nicer to watch. I like this one.
I think there is an auto review option where the LCD (Visoflex) will show the result for as long as you have your finger on the shutter release. That is a solution?
Don’t like the Fuji rendition at all - the image looks “flat”, like there isn’t much dynamic range. Not sure how to express, but it doesn’t look great!
What genius! A black and white only digital without the stigma of an affordable price. Makes nice jewelry, though.
Too expensive n not feasible for me. Shall just use current camera n give a click on the black & white.. lets move on.
Beautiful camera for sure if one's finance allows but I don't think there is an existing printer which can transfer all those exact equivalent numbers/scales of the the gray tones or shades of this camera produces on a piece of printed paper. Am I wrong? And can our eyes really see them if it exists?
That's some nice jazz.

If you have image review turned on shouldn’t simply half depressing or fully depressing the shutter button clear the reviewed image. That is how my Nikon’s function.
