Loved listening to this. It's so cool to hear so much shared passion for GW2 when I know so few people IRL who play it! Often feels like a lonely existence in that way, but hearing conversations like this reminds me that there's many others who love the game just as much as I do (and even more-so!). Hope the next anniversary meetup isn't too far away - would love to meet all you guys :)
This was nice and chill to listen to, good topics you two talked about, loved the start with you two just nearly falling back in the past, immediately made me think back too when I got to play GW1 first time :D Nice to see Lara sort of "open up" bit more on being on both sides of the game in terms of positivity/negativity, I know she is usually overly positive on her stream, or at least typically people mark her as overly positive, but nice to hear her talk about the negatives so people know she isn't necessarily dismissive of any negatives about the game. I usually enjoy the 1 to 1 podcasts more from people, easier to follow, kinda stops for me at 3+ people altho I do watch/listen to those too, but sometimes harder to follow since people can talk over each other more easily. I'm fan of podcasts (people tend to be more 'real' during podcasts than on their own and also nice to see opinions on diff topics etc) and been enjoying these, keep up the good work Sneb 👍
I'm glad -- my goal moving forward with the 1 on 1 editions of the podcast will be to get to know the people a bit better. I'm going for the "up at 2am chilling with your friend having deep conversation" vibe.
Hey folks! What a great talk with @laranity! Who else would you like to see on the Last Pull Podcast? We're on a mission to see if we can get RUclips partner by the end of the summer, so please hit that subscribe button, like the video, and comment to help spread this far and wide :)
To your points regarding solo MMO players: many MMO players denigrate people who want to play an MMO solo. They say things like, "it's called a massively MULTIPLAYER game, you're meant to play with other people!" But consider, the only way to be a solo player is in the context of other players. No one is a 'solo player' in Skyrim, because everyone is. It's only a meaningful distinction if a 'non-solo' player exists. Being a lone wolf is a valid and popular fantasy, and it can only really exist in a multiplayer game.
20 mins in and really loving the reflection and looking back about how you both played and got into youtube and the game. Very enjoyable and relatable content, I'm glad the youtube algorithm showed this. I already follow you on twitch but never subbed here for some reason. There is a dark sneb inside all of us.
@@GraspingsquareTV The hilarious part is that he kept saying "I'm a huuuuge fan" and I think he made mention of how he liked that I enjoyed what he worked on lol.
On the features discussion: I would rather have an xpac with no new features and instead have them spend all the time and resources on the new maps and their metas and instances (fractals, dungeons, raids). Spears and housing for example could be the most awesome stuff, but if a week into the xpac i'm just back to farming Hots and S4+5 maps just with slight variation from a weapon and the new fractal is bugged or super meh, then that sucks.
This was a great chat! Huge fan of Lara, gw2 icon! Raids seem really intimidating. Excited to see what Arena Net does to lower the entry gate. I didn't realize how much I had in common with your playing experience. I've been playing since the first open beta for gw2. And I'm pretty much a solo player who mostly does sPvP and WvW roaming. My wife has been my content partner for the last 5 years, and we just somehow miraculously made our first in game friends with another married couple we met in a zerg in WvW.
Laranity's story for getting into Guild Wars was the exact same as mine! Wanted to play WoW but my parents wouldn't let me because of the sub fee. Turns out Lara and I are pretty much the same age :D
Played COD1 and COD2 with random other kids I met on servers for a year or two. Then one of them got us to try the GW1 beta. Fell in love with it. My parents also hated paying for a WOW subscription so GW1 was an easy win. We played for another few years til we all got older, went to college, etc. I got my college roommates into GW1 too lol
Open World Raids, or Boss, or Events - that is strenght of GW 2 and thy should dig deeper and go that direction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Soo-won 2.0 is what I need but man people really hate cooperating these day. When I did Eparch meta I have to tell people like 5 times for them to move to sub 2 to do rifts with description on how to move yourself and people refuse to do so and then 60% of the time it's fail because rift slip and people not refresh pool buff (when I boardcast it every 2 mins). On soo-won also the same thing, we don't actually need a boon sub just need to hit tail when CC fail or tail show up too son (above 10%+ to phase change) and people "prefer" to not doing tail and we fail, Then you guess it they blame the meta.
44:30 If you were making reference to Triple Trouble, I really hope ANet supercharges coordination tools first. Triple Trouble, as an unorganized event, is just dead. Unorganized players neither know nor care about how Triple Trouble works. Unless ANet gives your typical GW2 player the ability, through ingame organization tools, to ability organize effectively, I think killing 3 bosses that have no extra mechanics to them is the highest form of collaboration this game is able to support.
The reason I don't like the new fractal: Fractals are supposed to be small stories, with moving fast from encounter to encounter and have a rather short boss fight. If you have multiple bosses, you want to build those up with showing boss mechanics during the smaller encounters or suring the pre events. The new fractal has nothing of this. Cerus and Deimos are decent enough length, but their mechanics are derived from strikes... not a big deal though, because they are the first ones. You do some strange "press the right buttons" game while others CC/kill the enemies, that try to stun you. So far so good. Not especially great, but ok. But now comes the Eparch boss fight: It has nothing to do with what you did before. He doesn't improve on the Cerus/Deimos mechanics. He is a huge health sponge. There are no boss phases. The mechanics markers are misleading (like using an arrow for a cone attack?! Did they lose the cone AOE somewhere?). Why do all encounters nowadays just have AOE spam as a mechanic? Just but AOEs everywhere, shoot orbs out all the time, so you have to run away from the fight all the time instead of actually fighting, some AOEs are just straight up missing indicators where a mechanic will appear, so you will either have a really hard time doing the achievements or you have to cheese them. And the fight drags on way too long. It is not a fractal, but they threw a raid encounter, a strike encounter and a story encounter together, nerfed their abilities and called it a day. There is no threwline, no teaching gamers mechanics with gameplay... nothing like that. I don't think it is good design at all.
cool video but im not even new to raiding and it feels impossible to get into to anything for W1 -W4. I have literally everything for my legendary armor except the last stuff for W4 and defeating demos Even sneb’s guild and raid academy only have stuff for W6 - W7.
I'm not saying this is the case for you, specifically, but typically when people say that they've gone into Skein Gang and can't find a group, it means they weren't able to find a group that fits their specific schedule. If that's the case, all you have to do is start up a conversation about creating a new team. You are the master of your own destiny. You might find it curious that W1-W4 static groups outnumber the other groups by around 2:1. It is very possible to get a group, but sometimes you have to make a group. If you're not willing to put yourself out there and make a group, you will be forever reliant on someone else making a group.
Despite the spears being very cool, I don’t think I’ll be coming back for JW. I’m a little tired of Anet chronically biting off more than they can chew. It feels like a perpetual cycle where Anet shifts gears and then we talk for months about how they’re doing something new and we need to give them some leniency. The new model didn’t sell me. The amount of content was stretched so thin I just decided to take a break. The QA on the expac is why I won’t return. They’re releasing JW this year! They’re already moving on. The pace they’ve set themselves doesn’t allow for the level of polish we want from the product. They can’t fix all the issues with Soto because they’re going to be busy fixing JW.

I think the "Open World Raid", is just them explaining what a "Meta" is to outsiders. It will just be the raid but in "Meta" form.

Make the housing like Wildstar. Let us get furniture from doing old stuff like killing Modremoth to get...something for our homesteads.
There are so many ways they could revitalize old content like this. Very exciting!
