It's frustrating. And it's not just 343. Execs have been fumbling these IPs everywhere. But it's given me a great excuse to play indies I've had on the back burner and experiment with modding.

@@BBKDRAGOON Deadlink has been a blast. Selaco and Sulfur also have demos out right now. Revisiting DRG and Stalker: Anomaly too. But mostly I've been modding the daylights out of Assetto Corsa and running some historic series for fun. If you like arcade racers play New Star GP!! We need more games like it.
It's so annoying with AAA games nowadays releasing with barely any content and then just playing catch up until they get the game into a good state. Then they pull the plug...Battlefield is going through the same thing and it's just sad. Infinite is a really fun Halo game and IMO the best multiplayer Halo 343 put out to date. They need to nail the next title to justify what they're doing with Infinite or I'm done with 343 man.

That "itch" you described is still there for me, I play a lot more indies and retro games day to day but I swear Halo always pulls me back. I love playing some casuals, ranked, then squad/btb all mixed in. The gameplay of infinite is there and imo there's enough stuff for me to chill on for playing a few times a week!

Halo has something special if people keep coming back to play, me included. It’s a game that doesn’t have any competition that feels remotely close (other than Destiny due to shared DNA) to how it plays. I love the world it’s built (hate the retconns), the stories it tells and the possibilities it has for the future, but I can’t help but feel like 343i keeps dropping the ball. Halo Infinite was doing good, seasons were getting better and content was being released in a more timely schedule, but when they shifted to CU’s and I saw the shop content vs. the amount of playable content we were getting, Infinite went from what I played every day to something I maybe play once every week or two. Players are not piggy banks, and we deserve better prices, better content and better games. That may come off as entitled, but I don’t feel like it is. Yes, Infinite is F2P, but most of the hardcore Halo fans that are still playing to this day I can guarantee you paid full price for the campaign that was not worth the money. We still get charged for almost everything and the ‘free’ content we’re allowed to earn is usually the least interesting and half of it more often than not is XP boosts. Competitive in Infinite feels great, but the sandbox is lacking and the forge team and community forgers have literally carried this game. If that content was available from the launch, the population wouldn’t have hemorrhaged as fast as it did. I’m just kind of tired of excuses from 343i and Microsoft. I remember people in the community were comparing Infinite to Reach and saying that Infinite had nowhere near the amount of content and some of the community team were trying to sway opinion and say it wasn’t that bad. Reach literally costed WAY less to make and had like 4x the amount of content and it was pretty much all earnable after the price of admission. When they took the reins of Halo, they knew what they were signing up for. It has a monumental legacy and big shoes to fill, but it’s the price they pay. Everybody will keep comparing the new games to the Bungie games and rightfully so. Those games set standards, they built the pillars and a foundation that we haven’t really seen since Reach. I’ll always be around for Halo, but I really hope they can start making changes instead of more empty promises.
You're comment about Reach being bigger in terms of content and costing less is something I am really thinking about regularly. Smaller teams put together H3 in 3 years.... I recognize game dev is hard, and complex, but so many of the triple a fps games are so content lacking in contrast with what we got 10 years ago and idk, it's not like games have gotten radically better, so I'm just wondering what is causing this shift
I think my main problem is I just can't fathom how the decision to drop the old anti-cheat and swap to EasyAntiCheat was made. The community has been talking about the problems with EAC in MCC for at least a year now. They surely would've known that EAC would open up similar vulnerabilities in Infinite. So the question on my mind is, was this a decision made in order to outsource the maintenance of the anti-cheat? So that they didn't have to use their in-house resources to keep testing/updating the "Arbiter" anti-cheat? This was the first season I decided to grind ranked and I just got to Onyx, encountered essentially 0 OBVIOUS cheaters in ranked before this update but now I have no motivation to play the game. Also, the reporting system is still bad, you have to submit a clip of the player cheating with the gamertag visible but the file size limit makes it hard to submit a clip of significant length.
VERY well said, and that's the first time I've heard that speculation, that it could be to outsource the management of it. Also congrats on Onyx btw! But yeah, I don't understand it, Mint made a bunch of videos warning about this months ago when they did the squad battle network test
I’ve loved halo infinite since day 1 but haven’t played it since October. For a live service game it feels like it’s light years behind other games. Each season lasted way too long and the fact there’s only been one gun added to the sandbox is depressing. I’ll be there to play the next halo game day one but I feel like the IP is just dead now. They can’t attract a new audience with how hard halo can be for new players and just doesn’t have the same weight the old halo name used to have.

It would be wonderful if Microsoft would ask Certain Affinity to make a true classic Halo game, content complete, with nothing but bug fixes as needed and maybe 2 or 3 map packs as far as support goes. Give the classic fans a true game, give the franchise a reset, and give 343 time to develop whatever it is they want to do next.
I think the next game will release with the next gen Xbox in 2028. It sounds like a long time but it's only four years which is very in line with how long good AAA games take to make. They need time to cook if we want it to actually be a good game at release

I have not touched the game in a few days, I played after the new network model was implemented, and a few days after I heard the news about the cheaters, so I decided not to play, because I don't want to encounter any cheaters; I'll just wait until I hear the cheating situation is fixed.
343 knows time is of the essence and we'll have a new Halo experience in a couple years. I'd be shocked if we hear anything this year

I'll always love halo through thick and thin, but as a game dev student, there's this kind of morbid curiosity I get at times like these where I wish I could get behind the curtain and see everything behind the scenes as it's in motion on the pipeline level and dissect it piece by piece.

I've found it shocking that people aren't talking about the dev team shift. All the new shop content and the "dev made" (in forge) maps added in 2024 have all been made by other development studios instead of 343. Microsoft is switch to only contract work for new content. That is such a huge deal concerning the state of the game and nobody is talking about it. Great video as always, Arbiter.

Hey Arbiter! I hope the pc build is going well. I hate to agree with you but I'm also doubting we'll see another Halo anytime soon. The only thing that may speed up the process this time is the change from the Slipspace Engine to an already well established one. This could possibly help with us seeing a game sooner, one can only hope.
Been one of my favorite halo creators for a long time. The one thing that has bothered me about this game is the cross platform. Playing on the Xbox, I can instantly spot a pc player. They just move different. But I'm with you.... will play to the next game.
Definitely will continue to play infinite probably won’t be like an everyday grind but halo will always be a go to game for me… it’s just to ingrained into my gamer DNA
I just hope they can nail the next game at launch for once. They need to make a big splash. Responding to all the questions previously asked with good answers. Playable Elites? Splitscreen? Assassinations? Etc.
I was so excited to come back to Infinite after hearing about the network/server update. Very frustrating when not even a month or two later that all these rampant cheating just put me off the game.
You DID describe it well. I like listening to you talk. You have a very chill relaxing voice. I agree. Halo and infinite is in a strange spot. Wish they would have given us a couple more seasons before they switched to just selling everything in the shop. But overall, it’s a solid game. Infinite is easily the best halo 343 has put out. And in MY opinion, it’s my favorite halo multiplayer of all time. The aesthetic, the gameplay, everything just feels super smooth and fluid. I like it and will always play it.

Getting rid of battle passes and completely switching to short event passes doesn't feel as rewarding because they're removing long term rewards from the game in favor of limited time short term rewards. I personally don't want some lack luster pass with 1 set of armor and a bunch of filler items that I can earn within a few days of playing because if it is easy to get, everyone will be using it and decrease the sentimental value of it. Same with the store items. I want something I can equip my spartan with to show off like "Hey I like this game and put a lot of effort into it, this armor set shows that!" Pretty much the only long term rewards in the game now worth grinding for that is like that is the Hero Rank rewards which is the Mk 6 gen 3 kit and the coatings. Which are amazing rewards, but to be the only one for SUCH a long term goal it really feels like an impossible feat and not worth it to most players.
The cutoff of the redemption arc really does sting. I'm glad they kept HCS for season 3, but Infinite will be really dead after this season and they never announce another. I still play, but being low diamond I'm not running into cheaters. Arbiter.

I enjoy Infinite a lot and play everyday. I havent run into any cheaters yet, (though maybe 1 or 2). I enjoy the game very much. 343 dropped the ball on a lot with this game. Even now after how much better it has been since launch. Whatever the next Halo game is I just hope it runs on the SteamDeck.
They could follow in the example of rockstar and keep adding stuff like they did and still do even with a new game announcement . I would like to see store items converted into battle passes. Like imagine an all weapons battle pass where it’s all the weapon variations that have been added with some cosmetics thrown in. I would still like to see cosmetics for banished weapons and vehicles. Easy peasy. Put it in a pass
I’m in a sort of limbo state, I play infinite a lot, but the hidden mmr really sucks, I play social, and my lobbies are WAY to lopsided. I’m dropping 40+ in husky to my teammates 10 kills. almost Impossible to win at times, then I play ranked and I feel like my hidden mmr follows me there as well. Trying to reach hero, and after that idk what to do. I love infinite but the low player count sucks.

What do you think is better, a game where you can always see your enemies health, or where you can’t see it at all? What if halo always showed you how many shots your enemy could take based off current weapon?
I don't think it's that necessary in Halo, the shield mechanic handles that, you can see how close you are to popping the enemies shield or if their shield is popped, I think from a design perspective bungie and 343 have done a decent job in this remark telegraphing to players the state the enemy is quickly without a ui element
@@BBKDRAGOONat :43 you throw a grenade then go to clean up the guy but it’s not immediately obvious if the grenade had effect. Got me thinking how would it change the game if you always saw a big 4 or 5 next to your enemy and knew how tough they were, or none at all. And what is an overall funner mechanic 🤔
have about 150 since release in infinite tempted to do the hero grind then put it down until the next halo comes out just ready for something new
I play one game, a few days a week, FF. Fifteen minutes at most. I haven't touched PVP in weeks and feel no inclination to. I used to play daily for an hour at minimum, and now I don't even care if I go without playing for days. Nothing worth earning in the game because everything is in the shop, Gruntpocalypse is a quick bit of xp but is mindnumbingly boring compared to regular FF, and the game just isn't exciting anymore. Also, what was the issue with the Arbiter anticheat? I don't remember hearing about cheating nearly as much as I do now with EAC.

They really had finally gained momentum at the end of season 5 and then they just pulled the plug for no good reason. Maybe the whales are buying all the new bundles, but a battlepass would have really helped with player retention and been a sign of good faith that they are still supporting the game in spite of them moving to future projects.
At this point, I think they need to rollback the update and go back to the previous system, since we won't get much help from 343 moving forward.

Personally I'm very frustrated with infinite, it really feels like it's been limping along or just getting by (as you said in the video) and not taking any major strides. Since day 1 this game feels like it's been on life support and then, just as 343 were hitting some sort of stride with season 4 & 5, they ditch seasons and start doing shop updates..... I loved playing this game for a long time but now more than ever it feels like 343 doesn't respect it's fan base at all. If they did they'd continue their 10 year halo infinite plan as they planned to and do whatever it takes to get this game out of the gutters like they did for mcc.
Yeah, it's tough. In some ways they may have the vision to recognize that the tools and challenge of supporting infinite any longer will hamstring their ability to deliver a solid new game on UE5. I think getting out of the Slipspace engine is key, that seems like such a disaster
@@BBKDRAGOON Yeah I think you're right on 343 needing to ditch Slipspace, I just personally love a lot of the pieces that infinite has like it's detailed forge and customisation. It kinda feels like a waste to throw it all away so soon and I wish they'd fix the game so it can be realised but I know that won't happen 🥲 Anyway keep up the videos man I love watching your stuff!
Gonna say something that might sound weird but I hope for the next Halo game they scale things back in the sense they don't shoot for getting better looking graphics that Infinite. We're at the point of if Halo stayed looking the way it is for the next ten years I don't think anyone would bat an eye. Get Halo running smooth, give us the features and content that we've been asking for, couch multiplayer is deeply missed these days. And of course if they can get an anti-cheat that keeps the integrity of online multiplayer that would be great

I uninstalled last week , I can’t play the same 5 ranked maps for the next 3 years.
It sucks, but I think people cheat because of the more competitive nature of the game that is now apparent compared to the previous versions of Halo. And I think maybe they should do a thousand matches before you can play rank. Legitimately you have to be at a certain level before you should even try ranked. Arbiter

The lack of social modes, social options in infinite still missing is bothering me to the point that I feel not to play this often anymore. Also I'm busy with school but still, if you compare Halo 5 crunch with sandbox additions to infinite it feels like a joke to me, still if we get a big announcement and this is a big if. I would love to see the story continued with infinite..

I'm taking a break. I live in Australia and the is no population. I thought yhe game was getting better but now I'm not so sure. I have been forcing myself to play it, rather than enjoy it. Maybe after a month off it will be fun but for now I'll hand up my gloves

I don't hate infinte but at some point with the whole cheating situation and the fact that they have moved on to a whole new game which may take another 6 years who knows this is the modern era im not sure i care about halo or the modern AAA anymore. I have been more happy emulating older games like fire emblem path of radiance and have felt much more happier with my hobby thanks to the emulation community than the AAA of today love you BBK great vid.

It's all games not just halo. The cheats are more advanced than the games because they have ACTIVE DEVELOPERS
Infinite is the only game i play religiously (i switch to titanfall 2/Doom when ping is bad but barely). With that said, i dont care if i get seasons or CU or whatever. The problem i have with the game is the repetitiveness of it.. I play fiesta mainly and the map rotation is boring af. I dont understand how hard can it be to "port" some forge maps into the playlist. Also the SBMM.. Pff. But most of all they need to adress the weapons as some are useless or they behave differently to their campaign counterparts and give us some new ones. So that's my problem with it but nonetheless i play it daily (not now because i broke my left elbow but alas..).

I'm oblivious to the problems. I play every day. I avoid ranked which seems to be where the cheaters like to spend most of their time. I try other games for a few weeks but ultimately I'm addicted to the Halo infinite game loop. I'd probably just play bots in academy if I had to... To get my fix. Maybe it's BECAUSE it's so broken, I'm trying to constantly tweak settings to find the perfect sens etc. I'm a pc nerd... I chase tiny, incremental progress in fps, network performance, driver frame time etc. It's a sickness Halo infinite feeds 😂😂😂
I like that, chasing those gains wherever possible! I just upgraded my CPU and it's made a world of difference over my old 7700k, there's something satisfying about it. Have you seen Gamesager's latest videos about optimizations? Specifically his tips on fps limiters helped me substantially
@@BBKDRAGOON yup. I applied what I could but I'm on the Gamepass version so rtss can't see the exe. But did everthing else and it definitely smoothed out gameplay.
I still mainly just play mcc ... infinite is cool it just doesn't take its place for me atleast. I get a bit bored whereas in mcc I can play all night and not notice
We really need an option to turn off cross play if we don’t already have one. I haven’t played in a while, but this is still saddening.
If I remember right in their first outcomes blog when this question came up they mentioned not wanting to add it as it would negatively impact population

I beat halo infinite campaign about a few weeks ago. And most multiplayer achievements. I'm just grinding the arena. 🤷♂️ Getting my gains in, watching the pros.. it's a small eco system but honestly, the games fun.
I don't care how big the eco system is. I wanna support the franchise. Get better, my routine is literally, work, workout, watch twitch of ogre, or spartan of sen 😂 go home practice on halo 😂 there could be 100 players. I'll be here till Halo 7 🤣
Have you noticed the halo esports page? They are putting some love on its fronts for the lack of popularity and coverage. I can't help but feel 343i pays attention to that and bases it's development projects around that 🤷♂️

I just want Halo 5 on PC. Infinite was DOA and other than Firefight, it has nothing for me. I would happily buy Halo 5 to play Warzone.
Halo Infinite isnt going to see any more brighter days. The only solution imo is to take a clean slate n make new game take the good stuff Infinite has and what it omitted

For me it's like...even if there was literally no cheating I'd still have fallen off because it's just not halo to me. This game is like what an alien AI thinks halo is. Close, but not close enough.
The AI comment made me laugh because yeah, GPT in a nutshell, it get's things about 80% of the way there but still feels off haha

remember when people thought 343 actually “fixed” halo with the net code update? i was laughing when people said it then, and im laughing even harder now
it's hard because some matches feel so much better, but the high ping ones on the servers that jump in latency can feel awful
Talk about modes that are gone due to crying. Attrition needs to come back. Covert one flag needs its on list. It worked on every map. Now it's stuck to 2 maps in a terrible playlist. I would even like Last Spartan Standing to come back.
I just don't care about halo multiplayer anymore. Maybe it's nostalgia but I've just been playing halo ce learning all the new speed running tricks and it's just a fun game. I used to be heavily into competitive multiplayer during halo 3, then was into the casual community side during reach, now there's no point to play. If I want a competitive shooter I'll play cs2
YO CE speedruns are amazing. I learned that easy any% route back in about 2015, never got that good, but loved it. Also how is Counterstrike 2, I need to check it out
@@BBKDRAGOON CS has it's problems, especially cheating, but imo it's the most fair and competitive game on the market. It seems like root level access for anti-cheat like valorant is the way to go.

I am slowly becoming a part of the bungie stans 😂, Its not really funny but the thing is I hate bungie stans that will consume and praise bungie for everything they did good with Halo.
My faith was renewed in 343 once season 4 came out, saw that infection was out and wanted to try it, Season 5 came out and then it started to get hype.
Then there was no Season six, season seven, season eight, etc.
343 doesn't bother to add things to their game to make it better bc "We don't get money from it" -_-.

The thing is 343 doesn't bother adding the few things infinite still really needs bc they're lazy, If 343 doesn't make a solid next game that was at least at the level of H4, I'm gonna quit the Halo community, and just start making cringe fanfics.

When you mentioned needing to make money, I fully agree. It's obvious, that every title needs to be monetarily successful, and yet look at so many of the competitor FPS games and they have left Halo in the dust in terms of content. CoD may be a horrific microtransaction machine, but the amount of maps, updates, the free battle royale, yearly release they deliver... idk it's just hard seeing that and then seeing hundreds of dollars of skins in the Infinite shop, with just forge maps being added slowly

Very well said and precisely what I'm feeling. Ranked needs some new forge maps asap. the limit of the 2 ranked playlists is because population is just gone, they can't support more than two without making search times insane. And yes, I don't really play social because of AR/Sidekick starts, it's just not that fun imo. Even on MCC you can pick the precision starts playlist for slayer.
I really don't understand 343. This is a serious problem. The game is broken after the last update. It's definitely a situation where they should rollback the last patch and go back to the last rev. This is not rocket science. Happens all the time. That's why devs use version control. Why they are not reverting back until they can fix the cheating and network issues is beyond me.

343 should turn off mandatory crossplay, at least xbox can play without cheaters. Pc can be cheater vs cheaters type game. It is a pretty easy fix. Crossplay is killing the game
If forced Cross Play across the entire game is turned On, and no input based matchmaking, then I just don't really care anymore about Infinite. Halo was cool without the PC Port of players ruining the experience for everyone else. I get there's tons of players on PC, but they're an endless number of cheaters as well. Right now, all I play is Halo 5 Custom Games and MCC Custom Games through the browser. I enjoy playing Halo 5 more though because of the experience of feeling like a super soldier, and it has the biggest sandbox out of all the Halo games. But going forward Halo needs to evolve past this Competitive Tactical Warfare being it’s main focus instead of just making the game fun for everyone and actually rewarding players with something that feels satisfying not some stupid nameplate, and cosmetics that isn’t interesting. Hopefully, 343 learns from their past mistakes with releasing MCC in a broken state, Halo 5 false advertisements and horrible campaign, and Infinite Multiplayer being a baby of Halo 3 and Reach. Halo has so much potential, but the developers need to move on from this same game experience logic and make something special for the future.

I’m against it. They destroyed their own game by rushing development and after launch not being honest with the community. And now, instead of winning back our trust, they slap us in the face and say, “you aren’t buying enough stuff in the shop”. So disappointing. Arbiter.

Lot's of games running into it in different aspect. EAC is kernel level, and has ways around it. The trade off has not been worth it at all imo

I think at this point I've honestly become so disillusioned with how the gaming industry operates that it's hard for me to feel particularly hopeful or passionate about any large IP, Halo especially. I'll always be a fan of the series, and I still log onto Infinite regularly for Forge, Firefight and to gawk at my digital action figures. But when you A) realize how much of what makes your favorite game great is due to the teamwork behind it, and B) piece together how Microsoft does things, it leaves me with little hope for the future.
