The primary issue with westerners is CONSUMPTION. We eat too much, drink too much, over medicate, and live in place that contains more space than we need. Good living is VERY subjective.
Steve, my wife and I appreciate you being real and honest about life in the PI. We are in the waiting mode and hope the country opens before the end of the year. I'm budgeting for a $1,600 / month knowing that my wife and I can make it easily. People who go anywhere and expect to live on $500 / month should have just stayed where they were. Thanks for the good advice.
New sub. Love the straight forward advice, no BS. I grew up in Baguio, joined the US Navy from Subic, now retired. I now work Federal working on that second retirement. Funny that I am now listening to an American for advice in living in the Philippines. In about 5 years more, we will retire. Great job and enjoy brother!
It's all about staying within your budget, and not trying to impress the other expat's with your ability to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at the most expensive places in town. Make sure the wife/girlfriend knows what, and how to budget...prepare for the worst, hope for the best! First time I've watched your channel. Great video, I enjoyed it...Salamat
I grew up in Monterey California, Seafood is my okay everyday thing but where I live it is expensive. When I went to Davao last year and went to the wet market I was in Heaven and cheap also. Love it there.
i live in Phil. for almost 20 years and i agree with this guy. Is the first video of him that im looking but is one of the few in internet who give you a real picture of the life here
That’s one of the best comments that I’ve received. I’m glad I’m getting out the truth of life here. It’s a great place but you gotta make it great for your style. Thanks again for the very kind comments!!!✌️👍❤️💪🙏🏻🇺🇸🇵🇭
I watch several VLOG's about life and living in the Philippines. I just found yours's, and yours's has become my favorite. Your persona is very similar to several people I have met in life, friends, neighbors, and coworkers, so I found that I could easily relate to you and I like your take on lifestyle in the Philippines. Please keep up the good work Steve. Best of luck in all of your endeavors. I will continue to be a devoted viewer.
How much it costs to live in the Philippines mostly depends on where you live (rent) and how much power you use (air-con) and what social life you want. Where you live if you are over 50, the first thing you need is reasonable access to a good medical facility. Work it our from there. In Angeles/Subic you need around 15 - 20 K PHP at least a month for housing. After 6 months acclimatizing I could manage with a fan all year.
Thank you for the straight forward understandable information. I lived there from 2015 to 2018 in Angono Rizal.I was stationed in Subic back in 75-77. Well hopefully you are still making these videos. Thank you for the very good information.
I'm not really a fan of people posting video who share their ideabout how much it cost to live in the Philippines. I just wanna say that i like how honest and practical you share your thoughts bout how to live in the Philippines. Filipino welcomes anyone as long as you respect how they live and its not gonna be hard for you to find a friend, family away from home.
I've been following you since your 1st channel and I do learn alot and appreciate the videos you put out. I'm also a veteran of Marine Corps. I'll be living in Roxas City (western visaya) I have a beautiful home and love the people. I have a very nice family who are taking care of my home there. I'm looking at Sept-Nov of 2021 and ill be there. I like your honesty and help over the year now..
I've watched probably 50 different videos on here! You were the most real I have seen! You sir have a new subscriber! God bless you! You keep doing you!!
I REALLY appreciate your honesty and unassuming frankness. A whole lot of common sense and experience. I am newly divorced after a 38 year marriage and have recently begun to look into the possibilities in the Philippines. Obviously the women are appealing. I'm not wealthy and am still working full time (66 years old). Thank you for your insight.
I love watching your videos...makes me more appreciative of my country..I live in Bulacan, a province north of Manila...while u stay south of Manila...I am as the same age as you..keep making honest, practical videos about the country..makes you more positive living here..God bless..
This is my first time watching your channel and I found your advice on this topic to be reasonable. Those people who say it is so cheap to live here may be living a lifestyle you are not prepared for or willing to live. The best advice is, it is different for everyone's situation! Thanks
Thanks for taking the time to post this. I am a Brit married to a Filippina and will be coming back to Quezon Province as soon as my paperwork clears and the travel restrictions are eased.... God bless you sir.....
Well we are building a house, solar everything, deep well same. So after the initial money paid down, no rent, no electricity, water bill. Living on the outskirts of Puerto princesa, palawan ,low cost area overlooking Honda bay, I think 300 a month is easy to make it on. I'm just a country boy so that life style is not far from what I live now. Plus I love Filipino food so I'm good.
Commenting from NC USA looking forward to retire also in the Philippines this summer. Very honest opinion about the Filipno family culture which is helping each other in time of need. Relate much. I am a new subscriber.
I lived in Cebu City for 10 years on less than 40k (Peso) a month in a middle class neighbourhood. We had holidays, motorcycles and no shortages. The only thing we did not have was AC, we just got used to the heat!
Congrats on the new subscribers. I like your content due to its honesty. It gives me a great insight into living in the PI. I have no plans to move there, but I may want to spend a month or two to immerse myself in the culture. Thanks for the videos.
Steve, been watching your VIds for a while now. Your honest, that is why i watch you. I been to PI back in the early 70's. Kind of looks the same, jungle, bars, and great people that love Americans.
Really like tell straightforward your video was. I’m 55 years young, got hurt and I am on Social Security disability. I get over $1000 a month from that. But I also get money from a structure Settlement every month. Going through a divorce right now, and I should walk away with a little over$ 200,000 in my pocket after the house is sold, I’m not a drinker. And I’m not happy with what’s going on right now in America. The Philippines I have been a place I want to go too for a long time. I need to do more investigating, I will definitely make sure I have medical if I do go there because I do take quite a bit of different medications. Again thank you for the video and God bless
Hey Tommy go to the Philippines you deserve it you’ll never regret it I know what I’m talking about I’ve been divorced three times in America I’ve spent 19 years in the Philippines it is a godsend
yes, I did a budget video.. and come up with $1,300 a month.. on average. But I like Air Conditioning. And this is a budget for two people. Not one. It also includes $77 dollars that i still pay my son's USA cell phone bill. I think you come to the Philippines to Live. Not just stay home. So def. if you plan on travelling.. scuba diving.. eating out. listening to live music, travelling.. $500 isn't going to cut it. but just my opinion. I suppose if you take the bus. Travel somewhere and stay in tent and eat dried fish every day with rice. sure.. you can travel on $500 Pesos a month. But don't expect to stay in a house. Ex. most AirBnb places.. are like 1,500 pesos per night. $30 bucks. in 20 days you would spend $600 just on lodging. You are over budget already for the $500 / month. and you still need to eat. pay for transportation.. did i mention beer money! lol. ;-) I think the Philippine Channel has it right ! about $1,500 per month to live with a gf. And that would be living really good!
My fiancé is a teacher. Well educated. Great family. Yes, poor, but have lots of pride. We fixed Nanay house while I was there. You are right, family is family. You help as you can.
I’m 44 Filipino-American. My family moved to the America when I was 5. I’m contemplating on moving back to the Philippines with my husband. He too is American with an Australian mother (who’s in Australia). We’ll be closer to visit her. 🥰
Hi, i've been watching your videos for a few weeks now, happy for you. I'd like to move to the Philippines but still haven't found the right place to settle, the city is not an option for us (i'm married to a Filipina)...she is happy here in USA but is ok to move back to PH. It's pretty easy to get around the Philippines if you are not in a hurry which you shouldn't be. I was in the Philippines 10 years ago and also the winter of 2020 and it has really changed a lot....many have discovered the beauty there thanks to YT. I love the Philippines but and don't miss America when I'm there at all, I find it refreshing, even though many places are smelly and loud...I like quiet and fresh. I know Palawan and spent most of my time there but still searching...some of the places i liked best have been ruined since my first visit. If you want to have relationship and enjoy I think you do need $1500 a month and as you said you can live there cheap but not a good idea at all, maybe 30 years ago it was different. Hope to come back this winter....take good care.
FYI, you don't have to wear a face SHIELD when your outdoors, it's only when inside buildings where there can be lots of people like groceries or supermarkets and gov't offices because they are required. Other establishments , you can find out from the security guards by the door. Then in jeepneys and buses where it's usually windy, especially at the back. And it's OK to take off or lower down your face MASK once in a while when outdoors if there's nobody around or close to you.
I am a Fil American retired in this country of mine, I do not regret staying in the Phil.I simple life those who interested to come over stay in a gated villages with security of course and be smart that you are not taken advantage, feeding the entire family, just observe how lazy some are, spend your retirement pay for yourself and enjoy avoid scammers too, in here I am not scared of the police. Pray for wisdom
I support a family in Visayas. Have a two story house and that takes a budget more than double of what you mentioned on the upward scale. Be prepared. It's no picnic
Rule#1: Have your income coming from resources abroad. #2: Have Reserve funding #3: Try to live a simple lifestyle #4: Beware of locals who try to scam you with investment deals including Ladies.
May I add #5: Beware of foreigners who easily can gain your trust just because they speak the same language. Happened to me who helped a Swiss Baker's startup, gave a loan against uncovered checks, later I had been busy about one whole year every week at three different trial courts, for each check a separate court trial. Onli in da Pilipines!
I was in the Philippines December 2019 for 3 months. I’ve calculated how much I’ll need to live in the province and I came down to $320 a month. This does not include housing because we have a house in the province. If I choose to live in the city, i will need $500 a month. We also have a house in the city. My calculations include expenses for food, internet, load for cell phone, water, electricity, diesel fuel for my fortuner, gasul for cooking, two-three times a month eat out. The amount only covers me as a single person. Five more years here in NJ and I’ll be retiring early in the Philippines. My traditional IRA (r/o from my previous 401k & 403b) & Roth IRA are more than enough to live well off in the Philippines. When my pension and social security kicks in, It’s even more more more than enough. Thanks by the way for sharing
I must be honest.... That’s very low and living like a Filipino. That’s not including healthcare or insurance. That’s with no going out or getting away to travel. You might get very bored with such a small amount. I highly recommend you rethink the amount you need. I worry when I see such small budgets. It just concerns me that things could go wrong. Do you have a good emergency fund ?

@@RichTravel1010 you're right... that calculation is living like a Filipino. It does not include healthcare, eating out and travel. There's so much to do in the province and i don't think i will be bored. I literally spent a day going around the city and a day in the province looking at the prices of important items that i will need during retirement and that's how i came up with those two amounts (living in the province vs city). There was an article on yahoo about how much you'll need to retire in the philippines and the article stated that all you need is $500/month if social security is the only source of your income. With this amount, most def you'll be living like the locals. My intent on doing this was to know exactly how much I will need to retire in the philippines if i were to depend solely on social security as the only source of income. I know of some filipinos in NJ and NY who don't have any savings for retirement who will be relying solely on social security and I told them the amount they will need to retire in the philippines but they have to live like the locals. Based on my calculations, I can retire early in 6 years and i don't have to depend on my pension and social security. I started saving 8% of my income and slowly increased it to 12% annually for many years and I was very glad i did that. If all goes well, i will have a nest egg of 1.5M when i retire. By that time, i can use my pension and social security benefits to fund someone's schooling (not to brag). I plan to retire in the Philippines. By the way, thanks for your vlog about avoiding taxes on your pension.
Doc Allen yes you can live as a local with your calculated budget and some managed to do that. I just hope you will be able to also adjust to the cultural differences.
another fine video. i am glad you are getting better monetized, honest and realistic advice for everyone who would want to come and live is refreshing. i liked what you said about the rush there will be when the pandemic is over. i think i will not enter until well after that happens, six months or so should do the trick. the people who live there are generally fine people. i'm getting really embarrassed because of the behavior of my fellow citizens. have been looking to expat.watching your channel with interest. was a sub sailor also. almost suicidal when i got out. enjoy that good living.
Rick, retire to the Philippines. People speak English there. Visas in the PH are pain in the back. In Mexico it is a stamp in your passport for 180 days, no hassle. Need Spanish there, more expenses in places where people speak English.
I enjoyed this video . My wife ( Filipina ) and I want to retire in the Philippines but were more into buying a place not renting . I am aware I can’t own land and that’s not a problem . I’m not really interested in living a western life. I would prefer to be more Filipino truthfully
where you going your not aware you can own land here i own mine you own it better here than in the usa in the usa you don't own land or home you think you do but i can prove you wrong can you use skype if so let me know then we can talk i have been here come dec. 20 years
You also have to buy 4 plane tickets. Two one-way and two return tickets. Because when you arrive you dont know when you will return home. So the first return ticket you wont use.
Quality of life is to a huge part a mental thing. Quality of life is not having to spend 10000 pesos extra for a house with a swimming pool and you always need to keep it clean and filled with water. Quality of life is living near a nice mountain river and jump into it whenever you want. Quality of life is not having a big home, it's a burden because it needs to be cleaned and maintained. There is a reason why miniimalism and tiny homes have become the new favorite lifestyle.
You are absolutely 💯 correct! My Ex wife came at me SEVERAL times for things that didn't make since. They even had the nerves to ask me to sponsor vacations
Glad you changed the background. Good video. I have 2k a month but live in Thailand now. I py $200 for my apt. inc. utils. If I have t leave I would choose the PI as my choice.
I try to change it up when I can. I’ll do more outside chats. Sometimes it’s a bit noisy out there so it’s hard to do. I like walking chats too. Keeps it interesting.
I can never understand why an expat would retire to the PH to live like a local Filipino. My goal is to improve my standard of living by moving to the PH. Labor, housing, and medical is inexpensive but everything else is more expensive. My recommended absolute minimum for 2 people is $1200 per month. A more comfortable budget would be $2500 usd per month. Also, add emergency savings of at least $10k usd and health insurance.
I lived there for almost 2 years & it actually cost me about the same to live there than in my home country (USA) & that lifestyle wasn't anywhere as good as in the USA so I went back home. life's just better here, in every possible way. I wasn't happy in the PH at all.. I eventually ended up just drinking myself into a liver-failing, daily drunken stooper... it wasn't good. & you're right about the cost of her family.. that's the main reason my cost of living there was soo high. My rent was free because I had a house built before I even arrived. It was her & her family, the absurdly over priced 2ndhand car prices & the constant visits to the immigration office that cost me so much. I was eating mostly cheap, low quality road-side vendor food.. crap like Pancit, boiled eggs of various little birds & fried chicken.
Some can make and meet the right girl and family and others don’t. I’m sure you would agree though that drinking didn’t help. I’m sorry you had a bad experience here. I’ve been very lucky but I tell my girlfriend exactly what I expect from her. She has always done very well with money here. God Bless
@ SSJG........Sounds like you (1) Don't know how to build your own house. (2) Grow your own food (3) Or how to operate without government issued money.
Sunday at lunch time here in Annapolis Maryland, just subbed! Married to a Filipina for 30 years and checking out all these vids since we may be forced financially to retire to the Philippines someday... I need $3000 to $4,000 a month to retire here in Maryland. We are in our 50s now and don't really have retirement savings yet.
Giday imm from australia ive been liveing here in the phillipines for about 18 mounths and imm married to a philipina we own our home and a few ricefields we are in a province area we live reasonably on 1000 dollars a mounth thats everthing internet food alcahol travel absolutly everything . If you want to eat like vfc you did back home it will cost you m oi re here you have to realise ur a visitor its not urr country it isint going to change CDC to suit you idd agree 1500 a mounth uid live really well
Our monthly budget is 27000php that is what we live on . There is a lot more avaliable but we are not here seeing how much we can spend every month. We live in the province have a nice house to live in life is good here
Im not sure what his situation is but I rent and recommend renting.Check out the video of my rental and see what you get for cheap money. Its crazy cheap.
@@RichTravel1010 You rent is cheaper than my house costs made up of rates, maintenance and insurance. I rent the house out and it makes reasonable returns, but renting makes sense in Philipinnes. Especially the way you have approached it.
Hey Steve, appreciate your channel as you seem to be a genuine and an all around decent guy, I'm Dan from Vancouver B.C. my wife is from PI and we have a home in Las Pinas, hope to retire there within the next 2 yrs or less if possible. In my spare time I will be attempting to do some kind of volunteer work or something like that, I like helping the less fortunate. Be gr8 to bump into you sometime and say hi, maybe have a coffee or ? Anyway take care and keep up the good work !
It is good to see an accurate budget picture presented. During my eight years and counting here in the Republic of the Philippine Islands, I also have run across EX-pats spewing super low living costs. Even worse are the Vloggers disseminating their bad information on a worldwide basis. You are doing potential EX-pats and retirees a great service pointing out the difference between what you can "get by on" and what you need to "live" a quality life-style. There are a lot of variables in the formula. If you purchase a property, you still have maintenance but you can save up that rent money for an emergency and you have flexibility of when to spend. My beautiful bride and I have found eating out is likely cheaper for us due to the value of our time saved. We only eat at a few carefully chosen restaurants that serve food close to the quality of what we serve at home. Labour cost is low so there is not much difference as long as the ingredients meet our home standards. We have noticed large price increases on many goods at the local markets likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Potential future EX-pats should do a deep study before making the move and even better come for a very long visit or trial run. I think far too many people do NOT factor in the reality that we have added expenses ( VISA fees, regular VISA extenditions,ACR card etc) that locals do not have. We can not live cheaper than a Filipino and that is the truth.! For me, one of the biggest attractions is the economic oppertunity here. Once you get past all those pesky lines and the paperwork, it is actually very easy to begin a new business venture. We have launched three business ventures PRE-COVID with our first one now three years old. We used the lockdown time to build and launch three, brand new more "virus proof" business operations. SO, my advise is, come on over and check it out but remember the rules.: "If you want to play, you gotta pay!!!!" Now it is time to go hit the SUB button !!!
Great Comments and a big Thanks for the sub also. We have many great older videos you might want to check out. And if you need help we are always here to answer questions. If we can’t answer we will try to stear you in the right direction. Thanks For Watching !!!✌️❤️👍
Good video, great advice and information. Along with what you state, as someone else mentioned as well as you have before, visiting PI and asking questions while gathering information will make the transition to living there. Finding out all the steps with all the agencies and banking, to me would be the most critical part of a smooth transition as the first steps
Although I appreciate the rundown on how much things cost, I see Americans live in the States on 600 a month. It isnt so uncommon anymore. With the general information I have gathered, I wouldn't move to the Philippines without a minimum of $2000 a month. This being said, I am sure someone will make a life with only 1/10 of that. ...after a couple basic needs are met, happiness isn't measured by wealth.
Good advice. I'll be coming over with my full retirement pay. Pension, county retirement and social security to live with my girlfriend in her place to start.
Warning! You have to save and keep your full retirement money. When you visit your GF. Don't spend them all for her. Save to yourself too. I've just watch in Raffy Tulfo vlog that this foreigner asking help how to get back his money that he invested in building a house to his Gf.because his GF dump him.
It all depends where you choose to live BGC is European prices; just like Makati. If you live in the rural areas or on the islands, surely it's very cheap.
When addressing the general public, I'd agree that it is wise to err on the side of advocating a larger sum like $1500 or whatever a month. Most people are horrifically bad with money, getting deals, and investing. But the funny thing is, is that the type of people that would be most successful at this lifestyle are those that don't pull the trigger, because they, generally in life, are always taking a safer approach than is necessary (safety addicts). I wish I'd flew over there (before covid), and I'm sure I could live on $500 a month, better than I live in Canada currently for far more. Because I find enjoyment in finding deals. I would spend all day on the internet making money, and would buy fresh produce to cook with, and with an $80 apartment, I fail to see where I'd be spending money. If you are this type of person, and without booze and non-stop girls, I fail to see how you wouldn't kill it over there. If I ever get over there, I'd love to buy you an all-you-can-eat steak dinner, sir.
Whenever you want to meet let me know. If you come and need help in the area I’m always here to assist people no charge...... Except the steak you graciously offered!!! 👍✌️❤️💪🇺🇸🇵🇭
Two cold beers a day and stick to one girl, not the multiple girl BS. Keeping one girl funded is enough. Dont forget the 700 peso Red Ribbon birthday cake for each immediate family member's birthday cause they will be looking at YOU. Hopefully you get help on funding the lechon and ice cream also.
right now i am living in arizona and i am getting $1000 a month that i have been living on for a year now here in the states so i know i can live there even with a girl friend on $1000 there in the Philippine and yes i do have ac and run it over 12 hrs a day now 7 days a week for it get in the temps at 105 every day here so no problems there in the Philippine

Hello just saw your video and subscribed. I liked what you said about general living in the Philippines. Im from NY and have been to the Philippines 3 times. i like it very much. Plan to retire there when Im 62. Turning 50 in December. Been married 10 years to a great lady from Leyte. I love Bohol. My favorite place in Philippines. Been to Manila and Cebu. My wife is from Ormoc City. I agree with you that you can live fairly well if you look around and research.
I have been visting Boracay in the past 10 yrs for windsurfing and Kitesurfing. I normally stay there for about 5-7 weeks. Boracay is probably the most expensive place in the Philippines if not in the entire SE Asia. However, even in Boracay, I have seen relatively cheap and practical(!?) lodgings as well. Personally though, I would not try to live in Philippines for a long time unless I am married to Pinay or at least living together as a gf.... By the way, Thank you so much for your honest opinion!!! (^~^)
Been married to a Thai for nearly 20 years. She's from the countryside, dirt poor family. They've never asked me for a red cent in 20 years. However, you marry the girl, you marry the family.
Your right it's all about shopping for the best prices. It's also about family, I had to get used to having family constantly coming and going in our house. Mom, Dad, sisters, brother, niece's, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins. We have a rule if family comes over and if they are hungry, they are welcome to go too our kitchen and make something to eat. I told my girlfriend/fiancé I never ever want to see anyone in our family go hungry.
Not that hard...500 is living like a local...and most cannot...1000 is possible but not much margin for comfort....1500 is a place where most can still not much margin for error....2000 now you have a bit of comfort.
That is utter nonsense. I have, through my consulting work, contact with local people in middle and upper management of decent sized companies. A family of 4 and an income of 50.000 peso net is a very good income and they live comfortable. 2000 $ you will not have any worries. In Europe, to have 2000 net you'll have to have 3200 before tax. And 2000 pension not many people have. Now I am reasonably well off but I would not ever spend 1000 $ a month. Not here. Of course, if you go every day to the restaurant, you buy imported food in S&R , which makes you sick and fat, then you spend a lot. But if you have a brain that is not only enough to keep arms and legs moving, you have a hobby, you eat healthy home cooked food and not this fast food garbage, work out, live a healthy life, you could make it easily with 500$. And you save a lot because you dont need to see the doctor because you are fat and unhealthy.
Theres a lot of Filipina in the province that have stable job well educated and coming from good family. And be frank with the ladies at the start Let them understand what you want and set your limits.Filipinos are pretty much understanding even for ladies at the provinces even middle class but educated are much better. But make sure that you set your limits. And whats the problem with eating Filipino breakfast?Filipinos are much oriented with the Western culture. And you have to build your own house if you need privacy and set limits.Let the family understand especially on money matters.Once you have a house then 1000.00 US dollars is enough but you are right consider where you live and global health insurance. And back up money .Your own car and.maintenance...Building a decent house in the Philippines you need at least 60K US dollars for a start.Im a Filipino American and retired early.Meet the ladies and really live in the Philippines for at least 6 to 8 wks.Observe and really know them and their Families as remember No divorce in the Philippines. Some.poor Filipinas are also pretty much decent.Avoid those who ask money and wantes a goodtime right away they are red flags.
Another excellent, informative video. As Americans, or western expats, we are accustomed to a certain lifestyle. I think you can do well with 1,500 dollars a month. That's my personal goal. To make around 1,500 dollars a month online teaching or something else. Personally, the e-begging thing is shameful and it's not a sustainable way of living. The idea is not to just live, but to feel alive. 10,000 dollars in savings seems reasonable.
Here are a few ideas for you. 1. Maybe interview some guys that are having a tough time at it, or guys that are doing well. 2. Everyday occurrence videos, such as shopping, eating out. 3. Different places for rent, perhaps a tour of some of the rental units. You may be able to strike up a deal with a realtor as well.
Please be careful running the AC. Electricity in the Philippines is much more expensive than the United States. You can easily hit $150+ a month if your not careful.
Really good video- down to earth and informative. Much appreciated. I am about 4.5 years away from hopefully taking the leap to the Philippines. I have vacationed there numerous times, and I love it. I will have to make some personal life changes before I pull the plug. . wish me luck.
Michael Stewart do you have a Filipino wife? Also I am caucusing but I like living cheap . I challenge my self to live good on less. You will never see me at Starbucks. Cooking your own food is the way to go.
I appreciate your honesty, thanks for sharing your time and knowledge, I have a question how easy it is for a American couple to retire in the Philippines?
I’ll tell you what you’re pretty cool giving out information for free talking to other experts on the phone for free because there’s RUclips bloggers out there like Henry Reekay ( life beyond the Sea ) charges $45 an hour I’ve never paid it but that’s what he charges that’s part of how he makes a living traveling the way he does , i’ve actually lived in Cebu now for many years and I travel to many Islands so it’s a cool place over here there laws and regulations are pretty stupid most of them are never enforced but it is what it is
I just got tired of seeing people fail here and thought it might help to offer my time to help others fulfill their dream here. As a RUclipsr you don't make a lot......lol..... But Im ok financially. Thank God !!
Hello there, I just stumbled across your channel and wanna thank you with what you do & giving good information. Shout out from Philadelphia & Happy New Year!!!
They ask money but you are not obligated, save your hardearned
Thank you. You are by far the best of all the expats to tell about the Philippines thats a matter of fact. Thank you.
Thank You for the kind comments!!✌️❤️👍🇺🇸🇵🇭
@@RichTravel1010 Im been watching about 10 expats here from Philippines i mean it.
@kurtEkman brother how are you
I grew up in Monterey California, Seafood is my okay everyday thing but where I live it is expensive. When I went to Davao last year and went to the wet market I was in Heaven and cheap also. Love it there.
i live in Phil. for almost 20 years and i agree with this guy. Is the first video of him that im looking but is one of the few in internet who give you a real picture of the life here
Thanks
Best of luck in all
of your endeavors. I will continue to be a devoted viewer.
Thanks
You and Sunshine are the best vloggers in the Philippines
Giving the straight truth and the real of living in the Philippines

I'm not really a fan of people posting video who share their ideabout how much it cost to live in the Philippines. I just wanna say that i like how honest and practical you share your thoughts bout how to live in the Philippines. Filipino welcomes anyone as long as you respect how they live and its not gonna be hard for you to find a friend, family away from home.

This is my first time watching your channel and I found your advice on this topic to be reasonable. Those people who say it is so cheap to live here may be living a lifestyle you are not prepared for or willing to live. The best advice is, it is different for everyone's situation!

You are in a good position
Hey Tommy go to the Philippines you deserve it you’ll never regret it I know what I’m talking about I’ve been divorced three times in America I’ve spent 19 years in the Philippines it is a godsend
Kenny H Kenny how about six or eight months there and the rest of the time in America if I have an American address?
yes, I did a budget video.. and come up with $1,300 a month..
Thanks for sharing and your comments. It will vary from place to place here also.

I agree, I think $1500 would be a good amount for living in a medium city and afford you to travel and shopping/dining out.
It’s a great starting point for sure. More dollars is more fun and enjoyment here.
@@RichTravel1010 I think $1000 is the minimum (single) $1500 is ideal! I was stationed in Angels City ( Air Force)!

I would never advise ANYONE to come to Philippines to live without having at least $2000 USD a month income, every month.
I support a family in Visayas. Have a two story house and that takes a budget more than double of what you mentioned on the upward scale. Be prepared. It's no picnic
Rule#1: Have your income coming from resources abroad.
#2: Have Reserve funding
#3: Try to live a simple lifestyle
#4: Beware of locals who try to scam you with investment deals including Ladies.
You're right on the $1500USD/month. You're also right about helping your GF's family out financially. Great content! Keep up the good work!
Thanks
True. Otherwise you can not help anyone, and you don't have any friends.
@@RichTravel1010 yes, I did a budget video.. and come up with $1,300 a month.. on average.

Doc is the man with a plan. Good luck.

I've said it for years... there's a big difference between "surviving" and "living." The "Simple Life" does not always equate to "Quality of Life."
@@llothar68
Fantastically well said, I 100% totally agree.

Many live on less and are happy too. But always be safe with your budgets
That is very conservative. I say $2000 min.
Such a great video. Great explanations. Love that it’s straight forward compared to all the other fluff you see. Hope to see you there one day bro.
Thanks
God Bless
Sorry but it sounds like you eat yourself up, try it again and pass on the drinking.

Thanks for watching
Although I appreciate the rundown on how much things cost, I see Americans live in the States on 600 a month. It isnt so uncommon anymore. With the general information I have gathered, I wouldn't move to the Philippines without a minimum of $2000 a month. This being said, I am sure someone will make a life with only 1/10 of that. ...after a couple basic needs are met, happiness isn't measured by wealth.
Good point Sir ,. Good reaction to Filipino family style
Good advice. I'll be coming over with my full retirement pay. Pension, county retirement and social security to live with my girlfriend in her place to start.
Have you met her?
Just stumbled on your channel. I liked that you said you’re willing to help others with a phone call or info. I’m impressed. And subscribed..!
Thanks 🙏🏻
right now i am living in arizona and i am getting $1000 a month that i have been living on for a year now here in the states so i know i can live there even with a girl friend on $1000 there in the Philippine and yes i do have ac and run it over 12 hrs a day now 7 days a week for it get in the temps at 105 every day here so no problems there in the Philippine
That should be fine but only if you are not a big drinker and you reside in housing like mine and live frugal but decent. Sounds like a good plan.
@@RichTravel1010 hi i like the way you say a big drinker and not like how most people just come out say alcoholic for there is a big difference between the two for i do come from a family that was a big drinkers in no way they were alcoholic. alcoholic can not control there drinking in the first place and big drinkers can
Hello just saw your video and subscribed.
Good info...I like Steven....he is a straight shooter
Thanks Big John !!!
Thanks, most honest info on the subject!!
Thanks for the comments
Thanks Steve to share the video, cheers and hulaluia...
Been married to a Thai for nearly 20 years. She's from the countryside, dirt poor family. They've never asked me for a red cent in 20 years. However, you marry the girl, you marry the family.
Can you enjoy a good life, when you see the family is dirt poor?
It's not living like a local.
Lots of locals live on $200 a month.
It depends where you live, Cebu, Dumaggette, and davao is expensive. Where I live you can live nicely and save a lil money on $800 a month
@@supermario2201 $500 is very correct.
@@supermario2201 who are you to spread crazy rumours that $500 is enough? You would be living a pretty sad life. Trust me, I’ve been there a while
Thank you for your honest assessment.
With money you can live anywhere in the world!
I just stumbled across your site, very interesting - I'm a new subscriber. I look forward to watching the rest of your vids. Thank you
Thanks for watching
I like the province area over the city - less noise - less pollution
Yes, the province is good. I was in the area near Tanay for 4 and a half months. We lived well.
Salamat! You had me On your Amazing info # subscribed 😀🇵🇭 as I got older I’m becoming a minimalist I would love to retire in PI. Stay safe stay well
Theres a lot of Filipina in the province that have stable job well educated and coming from good family.
Thanks for the comments.
So true
You are a good man. I would do the same. I am 55 and starting to make my plans. There or Thailand are in the front, but still looking.
If I saw or heard from an e-beggar I would LMAO @ them.
Great to see a realistic video on cost of living!
Thanks for the tips!
Great video. Appreciate your straight forward honesty. Just subscribed.
Thanks for watching and commenting Randy !!!🙏🏻👍✌️
Paint, Toilet Seats & AC window unit - ok got it
BYO toilet paper also.
You can do it!
@@RichTravel1010 Thanks for the encouragement. I might take you up on a call down the road a while. Take care.
Anytime.
my wife and i live very well on 1000 dollars per month
Many do and do it well. 👍❤️✌️
Michael Stewart do you have a Filipino wife? Also I am caucusing but I like living cheap . I challenge my self to live good on less. You will never see me at Starbucks. Cooking your own food is the way to go.
you are right, sir, true happiness does not depend on material prosperity but depends on satisfying our spiritual needs.
Exactly
When I come there I’d like to meet up with you so you can show me around & give me advice & show me or tell me where the hood women are
I appreciate your honesty, thanks for sharing your time and knowledge, I have a question how easy it is for a American couple to retire in the Philippines?
Very easy
Thanks and welcome
60 dollars a month rent? Thats reasonable enough. One must be having something for back up.
I say it all depends on one's lifestyle and depends which part of the Philippines you are in..
