In 2001 I had a chance to meet with Zem at his office. When I was studying Economics at Addis Ababa University, he was gracious enough to be interviewed for my senior essay which was on a topic about the need for the establishment of a capital market in Ethiopia. That encounter was inspirational and has been part of my professional journey. Thank you Zem for being a shining light to me all those years ago and inspiring the young generation today and in the future.

እጅግ የሚገርም ሁለት የ "ዳዊት ድሪምስ" ን ፕሮግራሞችን ለመጀመሪያ ጊዜ ካየሁ በሁዋላ "ይህም አለ ለካ" አልኩኝ :: ከብዙ ቅዠት አንድ እውነተኛ ሕልም ኖሮኝ ቢሆን ኖሮ ጥሩ ነበር ::

በመሆኑ መጭው ዘመን የኢትዮጵያ ነው
በጣም አድናቂዉ ነኝ ብዙ እነማርበተለን ግን ብዙ ኢትዮጵያዊ ጋረ ተደረሸ እንዲሆን ባማረኛ ነበረ ማዉራት የነበረበት በብዙዉን እንግሊዘኛ ነዉ የሚያወራው ነማንኛዉም አመሰግናለሁ
እኔ በጣም የሚገርመኝ ይህ የሐገራችን ድቅ ሰዉ በምርአባት አገራት የሱ professionalism በጣም ከፍተኛ መአረግ ያለዉ ሰዉ ነው። እዛዉ እየኖረ የራሱን ኑሮ መኖር ችላል።ግን በጣም የሚገርመዉና የተገነዘኩት ነገር ስለሱ ሁሉን ነገር ትቶ ከአሁን በሃላ ለሀገሬ ባለኝ አቅም ሙያ አገሬን ማገልግል አለብኝ ብሎ መስዋት አድጐ ዶሄን ሁሉ ስላረገ ከፍተኛ አክብሮት እሰጠዋለው። every time I started watching you mad my day! What I like about Zemedeneh is that he is genuine and positive about life. Four years ago, I was lucky to seat with him on a flight from DC to Addis and chatted for more than 10 hours. I am so glad to learn that his blessed with children and new life. Keep up your positive message, my big brother Zemedeneh.
There is nothing genuine about this leba. Yes, he does talk and flaunt about how he met his wife ( it is ONLY thanks to her he is where he is today). Yet, why doesn’t he mention how he beat his late wife’s daughter (with the accomplice of his current wife) , or his on going court case with his lates wife children? Why not mention how he bribed his way through for not getting arrested to what he did to the daughter? Why not mention his huge debt with Ernst & Young? Yet he is sitting at interviews as if he’s this great “economist” when he’s not but a corrupt greedy thief. @Dawit Dreams you should do some background checks before hosting a woman beater and a criminal on your show.

Very very true. We Ethiopians are hard workers, smarts,loyal/honest, and talented. I witness it. The only thing is, we don’t trust we have all those blessings. The change in Ethiopian airlines is because of Girma Wake and after him, Tewelde also did remarkable things for the institution
That was exactly my question. What was his role at EAL to take all this credit? I am sure he is very successful somewhere else and he deserves all that. But could someone enlighten me with his actual contribution to the success of EAL and if that surpasses that of the Girma or Tewelde?

I was very young when I attended his Vision for Ethiopian Airlines @ Bahir Dar ET sponsored workshop. And I remember at that time it was a crazy and ambitios vision for ET by consultancy firm of Young and Earnest. But achieved with dramatic fashion.

In 1968 at HSIU Coll of Business an American professor asked how long will it take to Ethiopianize EAL. Someone answered 25 years, for which he was ridiculed, as wishful thinking. I came from the Army and confronted the prof. If we could run the Air Force why not the airline? I said we can run it in fewer years if a proper program is developed.
Now I feel redeemed and hope there are some of our classmates who remember the incident still alive.

Dear Zemedeneh Negatu it’s a wonderful state of mind to be optimistic and hopeful for the future. Nevertheless, the road and the building you are talking about built with corruption and substandard quality. On top of that with astronomical foreign debt. What you’d advice the government if after all listen to you is that to have a road mgt, upgrading the street so that it can be part of the traffic mgt, focusing on quality and standards instead of quantity, for Ethiopian airlines, to diversify their product/service offering in a different sector which can complement the business for example ya you can think of sth. Last but not list is that Haile Gebrselassie said “YECHALALE” YES WE CAN! Many years before Barack Obama used the phrase.
