Couple's Cozy Log Cabin Home Built from Scratch with 40 Trees from the Land

- This couple built a small log cabin from scratch using trees from their land. Rémi and Noémie call themselves the Wildcrafters because they make everything by hand, including their homes. They started off by building a tiny house with reclaimed materials and lived in it for around 5 years, and then they built this incredible tiny log cabin with a greenhouse attached and they live in it full time.

The log cabin is about 600 square feet and has 3 floors. The main floor has a bathroom, kitchen, living and dining room, the second-floor loft has 2 bedrooms, and the third-floor attic is an artist studio for Noémie.
In addition to building their own home, the couple also plans to become more self-sufficient with their food production and have already started preparing large gardens as well as a greenhouse with raised beds and a rainwater collection tote. They have a well, they collect firewood from the land, they are connected to the province's hydro electric grid, and they use a composting toilet and an outhouse.
The couple is thriving in their rural and remote lifestyle but they admit that it isn't always easy. These projects are all a lot of work so they are trying to pace themselves after realizing they can't make their dream a reality all at once. So they're pacing themselves and developing patience :)

Noemie and Remi have created an amazing space using so few purchased resources, and with their own hands. They are both exquisite artists and craftspeople! I was thinking as they talked about the challenges of doing everything themselves that they need a small community there... so much easier when we can work together and share the resources, and share the workload! Personally, I would be scared of bears... but I'm a wuss who's always lived in the city 😂 This is beautiful and SO impressive 😯 I really hope these lovely people will manage to attract like-minded folks to create a tiny house community on their land. I belong to a Woods & Forest Charity I’m was well impressed to here how carefully they chose the trees they wanted! The Cabin is wonderful it’s abit like treehouse the way it goes up 3 levels. Great Craftsmanship between them 😊

This is wonderful and the fact that they have done all of it with their own hands make is very meaningful for them. I think that what makes it harder is the location that although, is beautiful it is also harsh with the strong winters they get.

Fabulous people, fabulous place. IThe craftsmanship and the passion is inspiring. I also appreciated very much their openness and their honesty and how they explained that this lifestyle takes a lot of work, energy and good health and it is hard when they are not in the condition to sustain it. I think this is the biggest weakness of this type of lifestyle in our day and age: that it is an individual/couple choice. In the past the lifestyle was sustained within big families and communities, that type of mutual support is key. They are living their dream, I wish them lots of happiness

This place is a true artistry. The love and attention to detail really shines through. I love it.
Love your video. From experience when you have smoke coming out of your chimney. You are losing heat. Which means your wood is not cured. The more mosture in the wood the less efficient heat and wood usage. Plus you have to stoke your stove more. Did you ever thought of an outdoor woodstove furnace system. We switched over to it snd it was wonderful. Great video once again. Love the art work on your fridge and wall. I had to smile my mom had the same sofa as yours.

Very nice, looks like they build an entryway so cold air doesn't come directly inside. See so many cold off grid cabins that don't do that !
wow what a nice house, and the surroundings are just breathtaking.
I love it when art and off-grid life is combined. I'm an artist (nowhere near her skill, but I draw for myself and aim to make a living as a sculptor), and it's so lovely to see homes, cabins, homesteads, be made beautiful, instead of just throwing some plywood and wire together because "it works".
I'm 33 in California this is my plan to be able to have a slice of paradise here in the US . Buying a home is out of the question so we're opting to buy a lot and build a small home to start out with hopefully it works out but kudos !!!!

Incredible, gorgeous home & life for you two! (Important note about MS: in case you have not heard, please look into the connection between MS and Jugular Vein Thrombosis. Many people with MS find out that with an ultrasound test of their jugular veins, that they have clotting in that area. There is a procedure that can remove the clotting and many MS folk have found it improves their health and they have less MS symptoms and flare ups. Just something to investigate if you have not already.) Much love to you all!

When I saw the thumbnail for this vid, showing the lean-to , I thought "oh no, there's another 'whoops it's too small house'! (I think 99.9% of people who build their homes, and even when purchasing a prebuilt home, they realise it's too small; common problem). But after watching your little documentary, it makes sense for you, and it's shaping up well. Very admirable what you have done, and well done! And yes, that spot looks beautiful.
Thank you! We are very pleased with the size of our house even years after building it :) I think the key is really have a good idea of what is it that is non negotiable in terms of needs from a house before building a small home, then make the space adaptable so it can evolve over time !
