    This is definitely the weirdest "instrument" I've ever played😬 I came across a video of this guy playing a bagpipe made of a latex glove and straws (or balloon sticks) and decided I wanted to try and make one😂 It was a lot harder than I thought it would be and took 2 days but the result was worth it🙈 Let me know if you want to see more videos like this! Thanks for watching!

    You need a more stretchy glove and most importantly a check valve in the blowpipe

    This is interesting. Bagpipes are an instrument I have severely underestimated for some reason; it's most likely because I rarely hear it in the kinds of music I like listening to, or because it just wasn't presented to me very often. I find it really interesting how they work even if I have no real intention on playing them! :)
    You mentioned how when the airflow starts, you can't really stop it and you can't really "articulate" individual notes. Well, yes, that's how bagpipes work. I don't know if you've really listened to bagpipe music much, but bagpipers use what's called "grace notes" to compensate for this, particularly when 2 or more adjacent instances of the same note exist in the song being played. This is done by having one very short note in between the 2 instances of that repeated note.
    Also, it's worth pointing out that bagpipes are very unique from most other wind-controlled instruments. With something like a saxophone or a clarinet or flute or whatever, the air coming from your mouth is what causes the instrument to make sound. But with bagpipes, the sound is not produced directly with air from your mouth, but rather by the air coming from the bag as you squeeze it; this is why the instrument is even called "bag" pipes to begin with! The only time you use air from your mouth is when you need to regularly re-inflate the bag while playing; the air coming from the bag that operates the actual pipes causes the bag to deflate pretty quickly, so you have to somehow re-inflate it to keep the sound going for any significant time. So I say using your mouth on the blowpipe to inflate the bag is not entirely different from inflating a balloon; the bag inflates with air like a balloon does, and in turn this air is forced through the pipes as the bag is squeezed! :)
    I only point these things out because there are likely some people who don't understand how bagpipes actually work. It sounded like you didn't quite understand it early in the video, but you're not the only one either. I didn't fully understand it myself until I decided to learn about it.

      In croatia there is a instrument similar to bagpipes however it doesn't have drones

    • @justinnaramor6050
      @justinnaramor6050 Год назад

      @@donvito3663 Yeah, I think I've heard of that instrument. Can't remember what it's called though. However, if the instrument you're referring to still uses a bag and one or more pipes, I'd say it's still a bagpipe, not "similar" to bagpipes. I say this because, in reality, "bagpipes" is actually not a name of a specific instrument. Bagpipes are actually a whole category or classification of instruments. Regardless of what you call them by name, they all share the same common trait: they all consist of pipes that are sounded by air emitted from a bag that the player squeezes.

    I was thinking, maybe a check valve for aquariums (you can buy them at pet stores, not very expensive) could help keep the glove inflated a bit longer, or at least give you time to catch your breath... just a thought 🤔

    You should use a membrane system its quite easy and isn't too much about tinkering like the straw 😅
    Edit: It's.easier than the reed system (I think) I am currently using file folders to make a membrane because I don't have clean pvc pipes to use 😅

    • @mariacristinamagtibay9918
