Oh sweetie… this recipe for sauerkraut is the first time I’ve seen anyone use my mamas sauerkraut recipe. Apple, onion and brown sugar. This is delicious! Mama always cooked it with pork loin. Keep up the good work. God bless y’all
Growing up in an American German home, my mother made her sauerkraut very similar, and always served it with mashed potatoes. I love mixing the kraut and potatoes together. Great memories from childhood.
Thank you Mandy. I love crockpot meals. I am 74 and when I do crockpot meals when supper time comes it’s all done without having to go in and cook something up. I actually am making Taco soup in my crockpot today. It’s been all rainy in Houston for several days and now Supper is done.❤️
Hi Mandy I'm from Ohio and always put apple in my suarkraut. I'm like you love suarkraut. Love your videos and your family. I'm 78 and have been watching you for about a year. So glad I found you. God a bless you all 🙏🙏♥️
Mandy, cut the garlic in half down the middle so you have a top section and bottom section. Each individual garlic clove in half with one cut. Put both halves in unpeeled and take out when done cooking. Might be tender enough to spread on bread or toss. Love your videos.
You have no idea how you just made me the happiest lady on the planet. I absolutely LOVE you all, I have been watching you for years. Long story, short version, I was fighting cancer and laid on my couch for 2 rough years with very difficult treatment and surgeries. I only have a smart tv in my room and became obsessed with RUclips. I am a blogger who has known for years I need to dive more into RUclips but never had the time to learn or understand RUclips. I started to watch since I had a lot of time on my hands while fighting cancer. I had to slow down and I would watch hours and hours of RUclips. I fell in LOVE with so many creators and still just obsessively watch RUclips. You are one of the people I watch all the time! I have binge-watched your RUclips many days while not feeling my best. So you and your beautiful family have a special place in my heart. You have kept my mind occupied many days. So once I saw I was getting views on one of my all-time favorite recipes, from RUclips and I have not made a video yet since I am slowly getting back into working (I kicked cancer's butt!!!) I started to hunt around and when I found that it was you that had made my recipe, I nearly screamed!!! The fact that you both loved it, just literally made my world after some truly trying times. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. And seriously.....OMG Mandy in the Making made my recipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So darn exciting!! 🥰
We spent a total of 7 yrs in Germany on my hubby's tours for the Army. I learned how to make sourkraut the Germany way with apples, white wine and caraway seeds and let it cook all day. Now the faster method is same but use apple sauce or apple juice. My hubby still likes it out of the can. 😂
My father was also stationed in Germany. Mom learned to use apples in saurkraut. You can use dried apples or apple sauce. I think it is used to reduce acid in the saurkraut.
Tip I found to be sooo convenient is to take corn in the husk and put in a bag and put it in microwave, three minutes per ear. Then cut the opposite end from the silks and then squeeze from the silk in out the open part and most of the silk will be left behind and it does pre-cook your corn
Has anyone else ever mentioned that your hubby Steve looks like Mr Edwards from Little House in the Prairie ? Handsome and younger, of course. Love your recipes. You two are great 😊
The peach dessert... add a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar to the peaches. And a little brandy mixed with powder sugar and drizzle over ice cream and peach when served.
When I make sauerkraut and kielbasa, I use a 32 Oz. bag or jar of sauerkraut drained and rinsed, a 1 lb. package of kielbasa, sliced, 1 medium diced onion, 2 cloves of garlic, minced, 1 1/4 cup of V-8 Juice and 1/2 cup of chicken broth. I layer it into a buttered casserole dish, covered. Bake at 350°F for 2 hours. I don't have a crock pot, but I'm sure it can be adapted to a crock pot. It smells heavenly while it's cooking. Oh, I also put a bit of Sweet Baby Ray's brown sugar and hickory BBQ sauce on the side of my plate to lightly dip each fork full into. When I gave this recipe to my 80 yr. old brother, he said, "Where has this been all my life?" 😊
I miss seeing y’all eat at the dinner table. I don’t know why, but I just do, love y’all. And I love Cait love her she makes me laugh. She is funny. She’s sweet. The family seems awesome. Thanks for introducing us to her.
While I can't do the heat thing either, I'm being forced tonight to crank my oven to 500°F, just so I can make an upside down pizza in a cast iron pan. My wife is making me do it. Apple Pro-Tip: Mix the apples with ~1 Tbsp of lemon juice. It keeps them from browning on you. When you're ready to use them, give 'em a good rinse, and use as you normally would.
I love sausage and sauerkraut but I can't eat it the 1st day after cooking. The flavor is too strong for me, but after it has set in the refrigerator overnight, even reheated it's so much better.
I like to rinse my sauerkraut. But to the sauerkraut, I will add water, the brown sugar, onion, some garlic powder, pepper, bacon grease, and caraway seeds. I’ll add the apple the next time that I make it. It sounds delicious!
Hi Mandy ! I really like the idea of the peach cobbler in the crockpot. I think that would be pretty interesting. Thanks for a new idea idea on making desserts without heating up an already hot kitchen , that's great ! Hope your friend has a speedy recovery from their stroke ! Everybody y'all have a great week. p.s loved seeing and hearing Gracie Lou !
Mandy oh mandy you never let me down with a new recipe idea. I watched this video yesterday, and last night i had air fryer everything for dinner. Baked sweet potatoes, steak, and the corn recipe you shared. That was some of the best corn me and my husband have had. I put McCormick's Chipotle Roasted Garlic seasoning on his, and Kinder's Lemon Butter Garlic Seasoning on mine. DELICIOUS! thank you again.
The sauerkraut and kielbasa recipe was one my mother used to make. Brings back good memories. I look for easy crockpot meals, because of the heat here in Florida. Great recipes 😊.
Tysm for these recipes!! I went right out to food lion and bought the stuff for the sausage and cabbage. We had it for dinner tonight 😊 we are from upstate NY and up there I used to mainly use my crock pot in the fall and winter. But then 5 years ago we moved to Pendleton SC and I now own 3 crock pots in different sizes and I use them down here throughout the year. In the summer when it's so hot every day and we are in the pool, I definitely don't want to cook, let alone turn on my oven! So recipes like this seriously save my hide or I'd have a very upset husband. 😂😊 Mandy you are quite the blessing ❤❤
You forgot the vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in that dump cake. Absolutely a must for peach deserts IMO. I made this and I didn't care for the soggy topping, I like a crispy topping. The topping was very tasty but next time I'll do it in my small convection oven.
One of my college roommates was from Germany and she taught us to put a grated apple in our sauerkraut so that’s what I do any time I cook sauerkraut 😋
Your first low country boil was the one that gave me the confidence to make one. It has become one of my favorite things to make. It has been on my mind to make it again very soon. Then I saw this video and I feel like I have to try it in the slow cooker!
Oh I love sauerkraut, but I’m the only one in the house who eats it. That dish sounds amazing! We make a similar dessert in a Dutch oven over a campfire. You can try sprinkling some cinnamon on top of it, it’s really good. Thanks for these great recipes!
I've only tried shrimp for the first time, about 5 years ago. Im still not sure I like it. But Steven describing that shrimp dipped in butter makes me want to try it again!!!!! Crockpot's are for all seasons!!!! Set it and forget it!!!!! Love y'all!!!!
I don't like sauerkraut, but do like cabbage. I've done a similar recipe using chopped cabbage, sausage and carrots. I serve it over rice or egg noodles.
Will definitely use the low boil recipe! My dad's family is from Austria and they put apples in their sauerkraut all the time. We love the taste. Thanks for the recipes today..hot is an understatement ugh, I use my crock pot all year round.
I have a suggestion for the Sauerkraut recipe I think I would add a bag of the small baby potatoes cut in half and placed in the crock pot and cooked at the same time.
Watching your first crockpot recipe reminded me of a casserole that I threw together when my children were young. I cannot remember how to send it in for a possible Subby Supper. I buttered a casserole dish, threw in sliced kielbasa or polish sausage, diced Granny Smith apples with skin on, chopped sweet onion, and washed and quartered baby red skin potatoes. Salt and Pepper to taste. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Oddly enough, a drizzle of organic maple syrup over the top brought it all together. I served it with corn bread and it was devoured. A great fall meal. I'll bet this one could be done in a crockpot as well!
We add Brussel sprouts lemons mushrooms carrots all kinds of veggies. And if I have any left over taters . I make a tater salad with them .. and omgosh it's amazing ❤.. love these recipes I'll be trying them !!!!
Oh I agree with you. I always thought of my Crock-Pot has fall or winter, but now I use it much more in the summer. In fact, I've only started using a Crock-Pot the Last 5 Years or less and I'm in my 70s
We love our saurkraut! Suggestion for some, especially for those who haven't liked sourkraut. Rinse and drain before cooking. Then, use either white wine or apple juice in place of brine. Also, along with apple and onion, grated carrot and caraway seed are also great additions. And, maybe, a spoonfuls of brown sugar. Yep, delicious! That and sausage, with pierogis on the side. Now, I'm hungry!
My Momma taught me to add apple to kraut ♥️. We usually drain it, barely rinse it and fry it with onion, garlic and apple before adding to the crockpot. Takes longer, but I only make it for New Year’s with pork and mashed potatoes 😋. Love your hair!!
Oh, excuse the noise from me smacking my lips.! 😋 Everything thing was fabulous tonight. The brand of sausage you have been using has become my new favorite. My german heritage would substitute the kielbasa for country style pork ribs in the saurkraut dish. Serve it over mashed potatoes. Yeah, it's so good!
Every time Gracie appears and cries for food/attention my Lilly gets super jealous sand clingy. She is in my lap purring away trying to block my view. She was sleeping peacefully in her bed until Gracie meowed.
Use my crockpot all year round love your show you’re so funny both of you especially when you think and Steven’s expression are hilarious love you guys God bless you and family have a wonderful blessed day
Cant wait to try all 3 of these recipes!! Great job Mandy!! I use my crockpot year round...I even take it with us on vacation!! So great to have a yummy meal ready when you get back home for the day!!!
If you add bacon (instead of kielbasa) to the sauerkraut, union & apples and mix it with mashed potatoes, it becomes a Dutch winterdish called zuurkool (=sauerkraut) stamppot. Really yummy. Greetz from the 🇳🇱🇳🇱
Oh Mandy, all 3 are great meals to make.Since May, i decided to leave my crock pot on the counter. Home of 'Old Bay" here in Maryland and it's been so hot ,don't want to turn oven on. I will definitely make all three. Thank you and do some more 😊
All the recipes look so delicious. 😊 I use my crockpot all year round...makes it alot easier and yes, much cooler in the hot months. Thank you for sharing the recipes...low country boil is always a hit in the south lol 👍😋🕊️😊🙂
The apple balances out the acidity and brings out the flavors. It’s amazing when you discover foods that bring your food that was good but only one note. When that ingredient brings it to being a whole song. You are going to start wanting to achieve that with all your dishes. No more one note foods. I love seeing the journey. Keep it! Y’all are my favorite couple to watch on you tube!
Mandy you were the reason why I started cooking. I have been cooking now for several years and never learned as a kid because my mom had chronic illnesses. Your channel inspired me to start my own RUclips channel with some recipes on it. You really make cooking easy and you are so upbeat and funny. I enjoy watching your videos.
I found your channel a few weeks ago! I love your content!!! I've made several recipes of yours already! I've also been bonge watching all your episodes and I love them all! I love using my crackpot in summer and winter!!!
Hi Mandy and Steven, another great Friday video. I love my crock pot and instant pot especially in the heat of Summer. I make that Saurkraut recipe and it is delicious. You can add lemon juice to the water for the apples as well. I use the frozen peaches and do fresh Blueberries wit Bisquik topping, it’s a wonderful dessert. Tomorrow I am making your recipes with the chicken bbq sauce sliders and last week I made the crock pot chicken Quesso tacos. All delicious, keep great recipes coming. Love you all.❤️
Thank you for the video! I lived in Germany for a few years when I was wee and we enjoy kraut and kielbasa in this home, too. I have 2 suggestions for you. 1. Chew a piece of mint gum when cutting or handling the raw onion. 2. Try dipping your kielbasa and kraut in mustard ... OMG, yum! Keep the videos coming. The happiness that you share with everyone is infectious. And Miss Gracie Lou is a scene stealer!
New to the channel and am loving it!! Can’t wait to try some of these recipes. And Gracie is just gorgeous! My Si does the same thing every time I go through the kitchen.
So good! thank you! Mandy, you will LOVE this pro tip. Cut stalk end off of your corn keeping in the husk. Microwave the whole ear for 2-3 minutes, depending on your microwave. Let sit in the microwave to steam for a few minutes and the ear literally slides out of the husk and hardly any silk remains!
Summer/fall. It depends what meal I want. I use it whenever I have a craving for it. If I’m busy running around at the pool or other activities it’s perfect. No matter what time of year.
My Grama taught me the sauerkraut & kielbasa dinner - with a more savory twist .. we fry diced onion & bacon(drain grease) , add the kielbasa slices & a can of drained sliced potatoes & the drained can of kraut & Heat through ~ yum!!
Hi Mandy, we made the sauerkraut with kielbasa and apples today, it turned out great!! Sides were mashed potatoes and corn bread. Thanks for the video. 😃
Fabulous. Welcome to my world of cabbage. My grandpa and mother came from Germany and my other side from Hungary. Cabbage is a staple in our home. Homemade sauerkraut always had a bit of apple and brown sugar. Our red cabbage includes a Granny Smith apple and also brown sugar and some bacon. I’m so glad you liked this recipe. My sister lived on Hilton Head and I love a low country boil. Mandy these are going into my rotation. Use my crockpot all the time! 👍❣️
I love and appreciate you and your videos Mandy♥️ My mama always drained sauerkraut and fried in a skillet with hotdogs or the sausage 😋 I use my crockpot all year.
Apples with anything cabbage is good. Evens out the tart of the saurkraut. You can even substitute regular cabbage for the kraut add some bacon to the apples and onions.

@@MrsAlmaTrumble Where would I find the recipe for that? It sounds delicious!!
@@sharilynn3024 I made it up. It's 2 cans of French onion soup and chicken. Serve it over mashed potatoes or rice.

I use my slow cooker all year long. I love getting it ready in the morning and not having to give another thought to supper. Pure magic in my book.

I have done a pork loin, sauerkraut, apple and onion in the crockpot before. It was yummy and I served it with mashed potatoes.
That sounds good with pork loin
Made pork the same way too. Easy peasy and yummy.
@@lisamerritt979 that is yummy! Even better with Trader Joe’s sauerkraut

My german heritage would substitute the kielbasa for country style pork ribs in the saurkraut dish. Serve it over mashed potatoes. Yeah, it's so good!
That sounds amazing 🤩 yum!
Every time Gracie appears and cries for food/attention my Lilly gets super jealous sand clingy. She is in my lap purring away trying to block my view. She was sleeping peacefully in her bed until Gracie meowed.
I had a coworker that used to make a similar dish, but she used ground beef instead of sausage. I loved it! I will definitely try this dish.
I love sauerkraut, and so does hubby. We can't wait to try this recipe! Also, the peach dump cake looks amazing! Thanks for the recipes ❤
Thank you and do some more 😊
I have now made the low country boil in the Crock-Pot, and the kielbasa/sausage, sauerkraut, and apples. They are fantastic!!! Thank you soooo much
Yummmm! You should've added whole button mushrooms to that shrimp boil. Talk about next level!
Gala apples are my favorite apples. Crisp, juicy and sweet. I'll have to try this recipe.
Thank you so much! :)
New to the channel and am loving it!! Can’t wait to try some of these recipes.
And Gracie is just gorgeous! My Si does the same thing every time I go through the kitchen.
I love your husbands reactions and facial expressions! 😂
So good!
Trying the sauerkraut meal for sure! Apples and brown sugar! Yum I think my picky daughters will actually eat it if is sweet and sour (maybe).
My Grama taught me the sauerkraut & kielbasa dinner - with a more savory twist .. we fry diced onion & bacon(drain grease) , add the kielbasa slices & a can of drained sliced potatoes & the drained can of kraut & Heat through ~ yum!!
Sounds delicious thank ❤
Oh my gosh!!!! I just put sauerkraut and kielbasa in my slow cooker! Lol! It’ll be ready when I need to leave for work tonight!
Hi Mandy, we made the sauerkraut with kielbasa and apples today, it turned out great!! Sides were mashed potatoes and corn bread. Thanks for the video. 😃
I ❤ my crockpot, all year long! Thanks for sharing your yummy recipes!! 😋
Hay Mandy, I loved all three recipes. Going food shopping tomorrow and making the low country boil. Looks amazing
Wow, I cannot even imagine what it's like for anyone to praise your cooking. Good job, Mandy and Steven. Y'all are awesome!
Tillamook vanilla with crushed Oreos 💯. Two years ago I toured the Tillamook factory. The ice cream and cheese are amazing
Instead of water, try using a little apple juice. My mom made it this way and called it sweetcrout. It was the only kind my dad would eat. Delicious!
Im SOOO EXCITED to try the sauerkraut!! Haven’t had it in years but love it!!
Oh my yes! That sauerkraut and sausage is the bomb...
Right on time with this. I've been looking up slow cooker recipes for the last few days. TFS.
The sauerkraut n sausage dish looks amazing. I bet a jalapeño in there would be good too.
I love and appreciate you and your videos Mandy♥️
My mama always drained sauerkraut and fried in a skillet with hotdogs or the sausage 😋
I use my crockpot all year.
Apples with anything cabbage is good. Evens out the tart of the saurkraut. You can even substitute regular cabbage for the kraut add some bacon to the apples and onions.
Take those delicious soft cooked garlic cloves and mash them up to eat with the potatoes! Fabulous!
Ok, y'all sold me on the Kraut and smoked sausage and apple crockpot dish! Thanks! Looks YUMMY!! 😍😍
