    I looked after my elderly Mum during the last 5 years of her life. When she died I was 55 years old and decided to take control of my own health before I became unwell. I joined a gym with exercise classes even though I thought I hated exercise. It was so surprising to me that I became motivated to improve my diet as well as exercise. I made friends at the classes too. I think the classes should be prescribed by doctors

      A prescription won't make a person exercise if he she is not motivated or feels like doing it. Anyone can exercise .

    The VERY BEST kind of exercise...is the kind you DO!

    There are three main takeaways here: Make sure you exercise regularly, consistently and longitudinally, practice good nutrition (educate yourself from credible sources) and try to get enough sleep... oh and make sure you exercise enough.

    • @JamesFoxFiles
      @JamesFoxFiles 2 года назад

      You may never see this as your comment is two years old, but what does it mean to exercise longitudinally?

    • @lennasser2198
      @lennasser2198 2 года назад

      I’m guessing here: longitudinally may mean over the years, or maybe he means several different types of exercise-moderate intensity, higher intensity, weightlifting, etc.

    Great lecture! - I deal with older patients all day and many have not taken care of themselves and their quality of life sucks. They need to hear this message at a young age so that their quality of life is better in old age. Very well done!

    My exercise is about 90 minutes brisk walking in the fields each day - about 5 miles. I don’t slow down on the hills and don’t seem to get out of breath. About 13 or 14 thousand steps. This means I reach the official 150 minutes in two days and do the same thing for the other 5! I missed 26 days since Feb 2020 due to weather. None of this is particularly difficult and I do my best thinking while walking.
    What is the effect? Blood pressure 117/72 this morning. Rest heart rate 54 bpm. Blood oxygen (SpO2) 98%. BMI 22.7. No medications at all. Sleep 7 to 8 hours.
    I did some courses on mindfulness a few years ago, and learned that stress isn’t a thing - you can mentally turn it off!
    But I don’t seem to fit on the curves anywhere - I am 77 years old!

      Good to hear. At 70 I work hard and love my work. I get my 150 just about every day and then some. We need to move!

  • @vincentanguoni8938
    @vincentanguoni8938 2 года назад +2

    We must keep moving. I need to do today what I could do yesterday.
    At 70 I still work. I'm a builder. If I take a week off I will have muscle pain when I start work again. No doubt I can not do the hours I once did. I have no plans to retire... Just slow down.... Inevitably...

      I think consistency is vwry important. Rather do a little every day than a whole lot in one day n not do any exercises fr th rest of th week. It applies with many things like, fr example, practicing th piano, do a little every day than packing it all in in one day, that's why kids hv to go to school every day, they cant learn it all in a day or a year, it takes time, everything in increments
