- Sick of beautiful terrain? Need something more disgusting and unpleasant? Well look no further, this swampland Witches Cabin is perfect. Who doesnt love a strange encounter with a hag coven?
Set deep in the marshland, inside a looming and dark forest sits this unassuming wooden shack. Surrounded by twisting trees covered in vines and stinking bog water, this unpleasant scene greets you but not before the foetid smell that hangs in the air assaults your senses. The atmosphere thick and heavy, mist sitting low against the earth. The mud beneath your feet is cloying, but that smudge of warm light in the dim meets your eyes, coming from a small window up ahead. Time to investigate? Whats the worst that can happen?

Now you have a real looking Louisanna swamp hut. I love it.
Thanks its just in case my campaigns take place in the American south 😅
Thanks for watching 🙂
Nice build... love me a hags hut!
It's a classic, can't believe I've not made one before now 😅 thanks for watching buddy
now, that's a beautiful tree
Cheers my dude 😀👍🏻 go get some florist wire and give it a shot
@@irongryphon oh, i will
Awesome build man, really organic feeling and detailed! Nice to see someone else using balsa wood too, it's such an underused material 😅
Cheers bud, It's a great material, like a mix of foam and wood. And super easy to work with 👍🏻🙂
Using Vallejo texture for thé tree is a good idea. For Green skins, swamp is the place to be !
Thanks 😀👍🏻 it seemed easier than using clay or something
This is just absolutely phenomenal
Thanks so much, I absolutely agree 😅
So modest 😂
May I suggest using gesso to creat the bark of the tree it's cheeper in the long run and if you want a gritty texture you can always add fine sand, the sand they sell in pet shops for chinchillas is very very fine and works a treat, and is usually quite cheap
Thanks, great tip. I'll certainly give that a try 🙂👍🏻
"Or you could be normal" This is the part i've spitted my soda on my monitor. Thanks man, i needet that laugh. Great job as always!
Haha sorry about your monitor 😅
reminds me of my garden house in the village
Sounds like a charming little place 😅
Cool build love to see you do more swamp themed builds
Thanks dude 👍🏻🙂 I'll see what else I can come up with
That looks amazing mate, you've really managed to capture the ambiance of a witches hut. However I do have blackaddder in my head now lol.
Hahah thanks mate, appreciate you watching
That base is so captivating, I just want to keep looking at it. The details make such a difference.
Thanks 🙂👍🏻 I like to have details that draw the eye, and treat each scene or diorama or terrain piece like a crimescene. The more you look, the more you notice 😀
Yeeeeah I would NOT want to be stumbling across this place.....without well armed back up...
Creepily awesome!
Gather your party, you have to investigate 😈
@@irongryphon can I just.....you know....stay at camp and cook dinner?
Or bring an amphibious tank.......
Another material that was often used as roofing material was tree bark. Some trees can have their bark stripped as huge sheets from the trees (which were often felled to make the building in the first place). Lay the bark sheets out flat for a season, and they're ready to be nailed to the roof.
Anyway, lovely build. Good job.
I like that idea, not sure how I'd replicate that in 28mm scale though, maybe just with a thin sheet of foam🤔 I'll give it some thought. Thanks for watching 🙂👍🏻
AllI can say is .....WOW...👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much, I really enjoyed building this piece, and it's both practical and cool looking. Thank you for watching 🙂
@@irongryphon I really love watching very talented people..🙂
I was going to say, "you have the wrong channel then" 😅 but I'll just take the compliment instead...thank you very much, you're too kind.
Nice build.
Much appreciated 👍🏻 thanks for watching
Woah, this is a really nice piece. I'ld love to "meet" a green hag there during an encounter. The fact that the build open on itself to reveal a playable area is a good addition. With a odd shape roof, the tree, the swamp, this build feel so organic.
Thanks buddy, I might need to build the rest of the swamp now 😅
@@irongryphon What a wonderful idea xD Your words, not mine ;p
Since the hut itself can be removed, the platform can also be topped with other kinds of buildings or structures. Modular terrain.
Suggestions include, but are not limited to: a trading post, a better maintained cabin, a blasphemous altar, or a short wooden watchtower.
@@Bluecho4 Dude... That's a crazy awesome idea
All great ideas 😁
Amazing mate love it
Cheers mate 👍🏻🙂 thanks for watching
This looks awesome. You are right about the moss bringing it to life. It really comes to life after you put that on. The tree looks really good as well. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks very much, adding in the nature element is one of my favourite steps to any build, I enjoy merging man made structures with nature 👍🏻🙂
Gives me creeps just thinking about the narrative potential. Awesome job 👌
Everyone loves a hag coven 😅
Beautiful
Much appreciated 👍🏻🙂
I love this take on a hags hut, it really reminds me of the witches hut in Majora's Mask.
Thanks very much, glad you liked it 🙂👍🏻
Awesome work as usual matey :)
& thanks for the shout out.
Cheers boyo, you're welcome 👍🏻😬 thanks for the barrels 😅
Oh cool!
Cheers 😬
Ahhh, i like it rough and dirty - also terrainwise. Really awesome! And a great combination of different materials and cryfting styles, coming together beautifully.
That tree is something extra, with that wire build.... sweeet! The King of Moss giving the final touches to his craft, as he should. Perfecto! Cheers mate
😅 good to know.
Glad you liked it, I tried a few new techniques here and I've been meaning to build a witches cabin for a while 😬
Amazing build Allen!! Seriously loving the technique with the first roof, using the brush bristles and tissue paper for the hide. I’ve never seen using tissue paper for the hide before… Very believable piece!
Thanks dude 👍🏻 I'm all about trying new techniques
@@irongryphon That’s why I enjoy watching your videos! Techniques that I use now, because you’ve introduced me to them.
Beautiful..
Cheers mate 😀 thanks for watching
@@irongryphon you're welcome, sir. You make such wonderful things...creativity at its best!! Thx for sharing .
I've seen the twisted wire tree idea before but using earth texture paste to give it detail is brilliant! I'm definitely going to give that a try!
Just keep applying that paste until youre happy with it. And use a brush you aren't fond of 😅 I think about 2 coats for the tree is enough
Fantastic. This may be your best build yet.
Why thank you kindly. I'm fairly proud of it myself 😏😅
I want to try my hand at this kind of modeling. It combines so many of my artistic interests into one project. Incredible work! Cheers!
Thank you kindly.
Give it a go, collect lots of materials and see what you can make. Pick an idea that inspires you, and run with it. Very best of luck to you, and hope to see your progress 🙂👍🏻
Looks great, man! I love the stilts, the hides, the playable interior, and the experimentation with the thatch and the vines on the trees. Pushing the hobby, great job!
Thanks mate 👍🏻 just anything to add some character to what would otherwise be just another wooden shack 👍🏻😅
Subscribed! This is a great build! All the details really make it pop! I love the fact that you kept it playable.
Playable is key. I'm not much of a diorama modeller, I make terrain because I want to use it 🙂👍🏻and it has to be durable enough to withstand models
Mate, this is high-quality, I hope you know that. The little details like the little bottles makes it live. Congratulations, I really hope we can see a lot more! ;) High-five!
✋🏻 cheers mate 😀 Im a big fan of those little details, seems to be a common theme in my builds. Thank you for watching
This is fantastic!
Thanks very much 😀👍🏻 I'm pretty pleased with it 😅
@@irongryphon watching you make this actually really inspired me. My own first diorama build was a swamp build and felt it needed a few extra touches. I went and bought a few more supplies thanks to your vid for my next idea for my new channel which will be for my incoming Kobolds
Sorry I made you spend more money 😅
Is this new channel a RUclips channel?
@@irongryphon No need to apologize at all! I needed to buy that stuff anyway, you just reminded me how awesome it can be used. This is my new channel (No content yet, as I'm currently working on the intro which involves animation XD)
Subbed 👍🏻😀 best of luck with your projects
I love your videos, and they are all great. But this one is easily my favorite. Phenomenal build.
Thanks so much dude 👍🏻😀 welcome to the channel. Always appreciate feedback so keep on watching 😅👍🏻
Really like how it came together. Real good job.
Thanks, me too 😅 I guess I never know if it'll come together at all until it does.
Outstanding man, your channel is quick becoming my favorite
Thanks buddy 👍🏻🙂 really appreciate you taking the time to watch
I am so happy I stumbled upon this channel, the builds are awesome.
Aww thanks dude 😀👍🏻 glad to have you watching
@@irongryphon just going through your videos now absolutely masterful.
You're too kind 👍🏻🙂 thank you for binge watching 😅 if you copy any ideas feel free to share them with me on my Instagram
This looks so good! Can't wait to play dnd with you tonight 😊
Thanks 😊 it's gonna be awesome X😬
absolutely beautiful piece
Cheers 😀 thanks for watching
Wow. I can just hear the fantasy version of _Dueling Banjoes,_ or would that be _Dueling Lutes?_
Definitely dueling lutes 😅
Thanks for watching buddy 👍🏻
Love it!
Cheers bud 🙂👍🏻
Nice
Thanks dude 🙂👍🏻
bloody hell mate, that looks like something that could have been used as a movie set :D loving the tree vines.
on an unrelated note, have you tried using magnetic paint as an undercoat in any of your builds before? i recently found some in B&Q for about £15 and have been having a little play with it. it takes about 3 coats, each taking about 10mins each to dry. the end result is a magnetic surface that any magnet can stick too. i got the mat black "blackboard" paint and i have taken to putting little magnets in the backs of all my old wall deco bits.
Thanks dude, I really like this build.
I hadn't actually considered magnetic paint. It could be something interesting to look into though 👍🏻😀
Awesome... gonna try to copy that as good as i can :-) hope u dont mind :-)
Not at all, go for it 😅👍🏻 glad I can inspire you
@@irongryphon id die to be part of ur pen and paper group bro... u seem to be such a good person... love ur videos... :-) have a good one my friend
Thanks buddy, you too. Glad to have you watching my videos
That is a great build. You have inspired me to work on my hag's hut I started a while ago. What did you use for resin?
Thanks very muchly 😬
I believe I used CFS two part epoxy water clear resin, however some cheaper options are now available on Amazon so check there first.
Glad I was able to inspire your progress 🙂👍🏻 happy crafting
Where do you find the rectangle things you use to stamp in rock texture?
That's a great build, mate. You've used a few techniques that i havent seem before too. Quick question, what brand was the moss you used?
Thanks very much mate 👍🏻
It's woodland scenics fine turf (green) mixed with PVA glue into a kind of paste. And then just spread it wherever you like. Check out my other videos for even more moss spreading 😅👍🏻
@@irongryphon ha! I do love me some more spreading 😉 Thanks for the info.
STELLAR!!
Thanks bud 👍🏻😬
Just the right amount of decrepidtude !!! Well met.
Decrepitude, excellent word 👌🏻
why u skip the flocking huhu i wanted to see the flocking, pls dont skip the flocking huhu
Haha sorry, I feel like I've shown alot of flocking in older videos, and I don't want people to get bored of it. if you're interested, feel free to check out my other videos 😬👍🏻
What is the material you use for moss?
Woodland scenics fine turf 🙂 mixed with some PVA glue 👍🏻
@@irongryphon Cool! Thanks Matt!
This channel would be perfect for binge watching while crafting or just kicking back... if it wasn't for the disharmony between the video and the intro. Every now and then you fly out of your chair because of that metal riff played at 6-7X the decibel compared to the rest of the content.
Haha my apologies 😂 I'll try to fix that for future videos
