Fantastiche👏👏👏👏
I saw this production several times at the ROH and I found it really refreshing. Stage directions went a bit too far, however, and the singers'acting (Quickly and Flastaff himself when sung by Terfel) got the audience roaring with laughter, which spoilt the atmosphere and the enjoyment of the music. Especially in an opera where every suble nuance in the orchestra shouldn't be missed. Maestri's Falstaff was considerably more restrained and resolved the character especially in musical terms, which was by far a better choice.
I saw this production a few years ago. Robert Carsen is a gift to Opera! Directing the singers like actors. Run to see this if you can. :-)
You seem to be unfamiliar with other Carsen's staging works. Otherwise you wouldn't be so optimistic about his style.
@@operafairy taste and opinions... I have 3 of his productions in NYC and TO and I can say that 2 were in my top 5 productions I have ever seen. Again... that is MY opinion. I hope you see stuff you like too. cheers
@@oyvey764 I've watched about 14 Carson productions for European theaters and 80% of them are typical Eurotrash, except for his older works from 30 years ago, which are as good as this Falstaff. it's just that for operas in the U.S. he still chooses a more bourgeois style, while for Europe stages his manner has been radicalized for 20 years. The same thing was with Vick.
Going tonight!
Consider correcting mispelled title. It's not "t'affro" but "t'offro": Fulgida Alice, amor t'offro: Radiant Alice, my love I offer to you.
While current Norma is still running please post the clip of Michael Spyres entrance scene. His Pollione is a must.
Mrs. Cano is one of the clearest voices on the Met roster...such clean pitch. Ailyn is showing off that she has 4 or 5 different voices these days it seems to me...
Why did you replace Golda
