I followed your advice over a year ago. I took 6 cuttings from a poinsettia I had been given , they all took. & were flowering along with the mother plant in December. I think one contribution to success is that they live in a bright conservatory with AC in summer. They don’t seem to appreciate fluctuations in temperature. Thank you for your very informative videos . Your
I trimmed some of mine and I am in the process of propagating now but I have found out that it’s taking a really long time to root compared to other plants even though I use rooting hormone.
Gary - I'm wondering how the little poinsettias worked out, did they make red for Christmas? Also, did you figure out what the problem with the well water was vs distilled? I have city water but never would think to use distilled to begin with. Thanks for doing the video, I think I'll try this with my 2021 Costco poinsettia, it's starting to struggle a bit, it's the end of Jan. 2024 now and the plant has made a bunch of small 2-3" bracts but is struggling to keep its leaves - I can't seem to dial in on the watering schedule for it - but this happens every year. My 2014 poinsettia died in Nov. so now I'm down to just one.
Gary. Interesting you mentioned about well water on your poinsettias. I am on a well and have been having many unusual problems but mainly moss and algae. Do you use well water for your outdoor plants?
Gary my dad went to MSU. Anyways thanks for the video, I have some poinsettias and want to propagate them. Is it possible to start with a larger piece as a cutting or is it limited in its size. Could you use an 8-10 inch piece as a cutting? Thank you, Eric. GO GREEN!
Poinsettias will remain green until the are exposed to uninterrupted darkness for for about 15 hours. Start at the beginning of October and continue for 8 weeks until you see the bracts (modified leaves) starting to turn. Each time they are exposed to light when they should be in darkness will delay the onset of flowering. Thanks for watching.
@@GaryHeilig oh! I planted it outside and I am in kenya where we have equinox,12 hours sun,12 hours darkness. It means I should trans plan them in pots?

Hello Gary! Will you be uploading more videos in the future? I would love to see some on your fruit trees.
Thank you for sharing. How often do you water the plants after they set in the hydroponic? Happy New Year!
