I've got to say that your videos are making me re-evaluate my approach to water colour. To my mind it's quite radical but the final effects are stunning. Thank you.
Having painted in pastels and oils I have noticed that the other watercolor artists on YT do not talk that much about the underpainting process and how it affects the outcome. In pastels, the underpainting is critical to the outcome, just like watercolor is too. Great insights Gary. I will work a little more at using the initial colors to enhance my paintings, with less emphasis on copying the reference's colors. Great lessons! Thank you.
Gary, I greatly enjoy your instructional videos and purposeful commentary. It has helped me enormously. Thank you for sharing your experience and being such an inspiration.
Your motiff, as you put it, is amazing. You really capture the light. And making it look effortless shows your mastery of the art form. When you showed the colours layered at the beginning it clicked in my head. It looked like coloured glass on top of one another. It made sense about the light. Great stuff, and thanks for your videos, I have watched a few and I want to have a go at one. Can you do a pre-beginner lesson that is not too big and has no more than three layers, and maybe only three colours? (I jest.)
Thank you for your detailed commentary in each video. There are so many elements that combine to create a successful watercolour painting and your descriptions of your process are very helpful. Your students are fortunate to have you as their teacher. Please consider visiting and offering some workshops in Australia!
I know you are having a couple of classes in France this year (2019) which I am unable to attend. Do you have any plans to come over next year as I would like to get my name down if your dates are suitable for me. Thank you for your video classes, they are so helpful. Paul Richardson
