I drive a 2005 Ford escape hybrid. 2wd. I'm almost 62 and its nice to know that if I had to I could live in it.
I have the same sheets.
Take some chrome polish to those headlights. It'll clean them up really nicely.
I like that cargo net on the ceiling. Thanks for the idea and the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Do you remember where you got the cargo bungees & net?
The cargo net is genius
I was wondering the same! :) That's awesome
I like the cargo net on the ceiling of the car!
I appreciate it! I haven't seen many people do it and it is definitely one of my best decisions in this conversion!
I’m getting ready to do this cause I see no other way to save money and live best....lol, but seriously I took my first few notes from your video! Thank you. Also mind to lend us a list of things and materials and stores or links to buy these things and some advice on how you got yourself this nice bed to creation.
This minimalist has more shoes than my wife.
Ha relax dude. No one said I'm a "pro" minimalist. Secondly, minimalism isn't defined by your quantity of shoes.
I joke I joke
LBK 1 no need to be rude dude
Triggered
I like how your lipstick color matches your Tshirt
Cargo net on the ceiling! Great idea. I'm short in the saddle and this would work so well! Could even put velcro and insulation as the top layer there. Nice job.
Admire all the work & thought you put into this ! Amazing !! I was planning to give this a try in a KIA SOUL 🚙 much smaller than what you’ve got here !
It will be a challenge & I’ll see how it can go before graduating to a van or bigger maybe down the road .
Thanks for sharing some great advice w/ your tour of van 👍🏼
I coverr my windows with black cardboard from the dollar store , it works fine.
I love this SUV conversion. I'm going to convert my Ford escape
Awesome! Post a video once it's done!
Hi! I have an Escape. 2005!!
Nice build! I love how organized & simple it is and still has all your basics covered too. We too have a storage for our bikes, bike carrier and bench seats that clipped out of my van along with our seasonal items. Having a storage is such a good idea.
Thanks! Yes! It's still a cheap option to keep a great hobby!
I’m bout to be living in my suv too for the first time
Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
That roof bungee was pure genius
Thanks for the compliment!!
Very cool man. I'm Brazilian and I'm working on my Rav4 too. and very soon I must hit the road towards PATAGONIA Argentina. Thanks for sharing.
Every able bodied person who has the resources should live out their vehicle for a while to push rentals demand down thus making it
Affordable when the time comes to rent.
Really nice video and best SUV conversion...You did an awesome job! You deserve more subscribers. I subbed and look forward to more nice videos like this one. Thank you. :))
Thank you very much for subscribing! I hope to post more videos you enjoy!
Wow! I love your conversion. The under the bed drawers are awesome
Thanks so much! 😊
Careful with your everyday bag that has your computer in your passenger seat, that's an easy spot for theft smash and grab - I've had it happen
Very cool man awesome video and thanks for sharing! I'm getting my rig together and recording as much of it as possible for a future Channel. Pretty much similar SUV life but I'm using an Excursion. Thanks for the inspiration and i look forward to more of your videos.
Thanks! And can't wait to see your videos! Definitely share your journey!
Great tour! Yeah interested to know more step by step how you build some of the stuff
Noted! As more interest for it grows, I'll start planning that video!
I think it's a really good setup, actually I might copy you with my car
Cargo net is a great idea, I'm about to take a road trip in my Chevy Tracker, Yes the bed will work in it like yours has, I will remove the one seat leave the other for sitting when weather is bad. I could get away with 65 inches for my mattress, the charcoal mattress is a great idea thanks for sharing. Way to many clothes, I would have to have room for camping stove, and backpack.
Thanks? And good luck? 😅
Ceiling net is brilliant!!!
Thanks! It's definitely come in very handy!
GREAT JOB!!! VERY NEAT AND ORGANIZED!!!!! LOVE IT!!!
Thanks! :)
I have the same pillow case!
You are the first person who has used the roof of the inside of the car with Bungee cords for additional space, smart! . Especially for the fan.
Thanks! And yeah, it's been such a valuable part of my conversion!
I love this conversion! I also have a Rav4 and have a sleeping build out in the back. I love the net that you use for the ceiling, and clicked on the link that you have given for it... by any chance do you know the length of the bungies that you used? Did you cut out your own window coverings out of reflectix too? Those are really great!
Thank you! And I can measure them and get back to you! I got the bungie cords from home depot. it was like a bundle of random bungies in a screw-top plastic jar. I did cut out the coverings on my own! It was slightly tricky but just start big and trim as needed!
bro im about to start living in my honda crv, was looking for videos on cooling and found you, awsome videos great ideas that dont break the bank, witch is the hole reason to live in your car to save money,, right lol
Yup! Big part of living in your car, but honestly it's also just a fun story!
Super cool! I want to do something like this for camping, but I've got kids so I cant take the seats out. I'm thinking of getting a tent that attaches but I want to really make good use of the space of the trunk. Thanks for the ideas!
No problem! And try checking out this! I love this for purely weekend camping trips:
ruclips.net/video/qqjWo6W-Apo/видео.html
Awesome details! I’m going to borrow more from this than I have any other video!
Thanks! Glad you found my video helpful! Good luck!
Wow. Really nice design for your Suv. I might use this to build a similar design for my Tahoe. Thank you.
Thanks! and let me know when/if you do! I'd love to see your video of it!
There's no point raising the bed to get to the storage underneath when you can just slide it out. But, i guess you wanted to demonstrate that the bed was 'liftable'.
Great video. I hope SUV life is still good. :)
Yup! And after lifting the bed up, the passenger seat is way more comfortable for people to sit in
awsome videos , great ideas, wish you all the best, greetings from Croatia!
Mike, where did you get that bed pad? Love your roof cargo net...unique and serviceable!
I see your answer to this question below. Thanks!
Hey Mikee- amazing setup. Would you be able to explain how you loop the cargo net and bar in the back cargo area of your car? At 3:47. I looked up pictures of the 2005 Rav4 and it didn't look like there's anything there to loop into. Did you have to cut through the cloth/plastic interior to get to the metal frame? Or is there some other magic to it?
Also, could you link to the bar you're using to hang your clothes? I couldn't find any tension bars that have the grippy plastic/rubber that yours appears to have.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
I have a old , and I do mean old , Isuzu Trooper that I would like to convert to a expedition home away from home, thanks for some awesome ideas, and good luck brother
Thank you for watching! Let me know if you want to see anything particular for my next videos!
I have a 93 trooper im thinking of doing the same thing
You have a great set up! I was wondering, what do you use for power?
Smart love this video.
Thank you!
Thank you. This is perfect.
What are the car specs (year, engine, etc) and what do you do when it needs to go in for maintenance? Have you run into any big repairs?
What parking lots would you prefer sleeping in because I know some places don’t allow campers to park in their parking spaces unless they’re shopping, Or staying on the party.
Great video, lots of ideas that are very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Glad they're helpful for you!
Best set up for people like me. Pretty clean set up bud.
Thank you! If you ever build your own, send it to me! Would love to see how you do it!
wow I'm inspired and i have the same Toyota rav. I'm wondering if you can provide a link for the cargo net. I see that it covers the whole ceiling of your car. i would really like the same one so I can install. thank you for your videos I'm subscribing
How do you eat? Cook? Looks good but no kitchen. I want to go mostly raw when I move into my Suv. Maybe just eat thinks like oatmeal & granola bars with my salads fruits & nuts.
Haha sounds like you already got it figured out! I'll either stop by the grocery store every day or so, or just buy food and keep them at my office
Great ideas. But what about cooking, bathroom, etc.?
For #2 there are special 5 gallons bucket on Amazon , same as for cooking .
Hi, cool set up! How do you set up that cloth rack with two holes on the side. I see the hole on my rav4 don't know how to use it
God bless you as you travel. Thanks fir sharing..🌷
Thank you!
this is so interesting
I'm working on a similar design for my explorer, instead of drawers under the bed I'm planning on having the bed be a lot shorter than yours and just lift up with a single hinge going sideways. Hopefully that made sense. I also want to find a way to put a solar panel, an extra deep cycle/lithium battery or two on a separate circuit than the main car battery, and an inverter to run a small air conditioner in anything else I might want to power. Where I live it gets really hot in the summer and my work shift is at night so it doesn't work very well to stay cool, and a cooler with a fan full of ice doesn't work very well past the melting point of the ice lol
Sounds like you got it figured out! Would love to hear back once you have finished your conversion!
@@MinimalistMikee thanks, I'll try to upload a video of it. There's still a lot of gray area where I'm not sure what I want to do, especially for air conditioning. I've mostly used it for travelling for work so I don't have to pay for a hotel or something but since my shift is always at night the vehicle gets HOT when I'm trying to sleep. Right now I made a cheap adapter from spade connecters to plug a cordless drill battery into a computer fan and blow air through a cooler full of ice, but that barely keeps up in the average days and barely makes a dent on the temperatures on the hottest days. Any suggestions on that? I have all my windows lined with either reflective survival blankets or those reflective window shades that I cut to size. Also gives good privacy.
First, I'm not an authority on solar, or AC units BUT, I think with current technology it's going to be difficult, if not impossible, to get enough solar on a (Ford) Explorer AND fit enough batteries, to power an AC unit for... let's say 8 hrs. Also, cost (of current systems) would be pretty steep. BUT, I could be wrong!
Before you spend any $ on goods, I highly recommend Will Prowse's channel to learn all you can about what's available, what it can do, and how to possibly save some cash by building your own system. The guy really knows this stuff, and gives honest reviews on products.
A very clever way of saving $. Do you use solar energy?
Good use of space and set up. Do you have a mini cooker?
Kinda, I use a mini portable camper stove and gas can
Can you go over really quick how you put the cloth rack up at the rear of the car? Interested in how you did it with paracord. Thanks!
Ok! Hopefully this helps, but if not, let me know. So inside the RAV4 there are caps on the roof. Pop those off and you'll find a metal frame with two holes on the metal frame of the car. I took a short line of paracord and tied the ends together to make a loop with a knot on the end. I somehow fished the loop through one hole and out the other. The knot at the end was large enough to catch and stay against the hole I fished the loop through. This gave me a loop of paracord attached to the frame of the car which I then simply hung the rack on the loops
@@MinimalistMikee Ahh i see. I'll give this a try. Thanks!

How does the fans work ? Battery operated,? Or solar and do they keep you cool ? I'm thinking about using my 2006 envoy in this way great job bro
Both battery and AC adaptors. They keep me cool enough! Check out my video on staying cool in your car: ruclips.net/video/dTtJOMx2N3E/видео.html
How about installing some solar panels? Talking about electronic daily needs
I'm thinking about it. As of right now, I haven't found it as a necessity but possibly in the future for convenience!
@@MinimalistMikee Building that on a van could be better.. for a suv its like an over kill
Bro nice video but there is no head room imo.
Very nice!👍
Thank you sir!
Ms. 😅
@@myjoyquest oh haha my bad, awkward XD
Is your fan battery operated?
I have those sheets!!
0:27 Well this guy's a Marine
Hi there! Great SUV tour and setup, I'm looking to do something like that in my Santa Fe. Did you put the holes in the mattress? Or did it come that way? Will be interesting to see how that holds up and if it does not get mold. Not much of a kitchen setup, do you eat out most off the time? Nice bungee top setup and netting.
How do you like the cargo top carrier lock on the back verses on the side? Might be easier to reach things from the back that way.
Subbed, looking forward to your future videos. :)
Tina
Hey! I did not, the mattress had holes already in it. I got it on Amazon; just look up bamboo charcoal mattress topper. So far nothing wrong but it's only been 1.5 weeks haha. I do not actually. So right now the meals are PB&J Tacos haha and eating out. However, I will be getting an ultralight/compact stove and gas tank with a small pan to cook. I'll update y'all when I do and how it works out!
Looked back on this and realized I didn't answer your last question! It is much easier to access and open my cargo box from the back because on side of my car is blocked out because of my bed!
Minimalist Mikee I’m currently looking for this mattress on Amazon. I see in your comment about not cutting holes but did you cut the mattress? Thanks
Very nice!
Thank you! If you have a chance, check my other videos and let me know your thoughts!
Hi where do you get the mattress topper, the "ceiling" net, and the metal rod for the curtain?

AWESOME.. best of luck to you..
Thanks man!
Hello greetings. the link for bicycle racks and for the cargo box. thanks.

Although I recommend a better cargo box if you have the money
What about cooking and restroom needs?
I have a video for cooking! I use the restroom early morning before my workout at the gym or at my office. The office or coffee shop I'm at throughout the rest of the day. Then gym if I stay the night nearby it
ruclips.net/video/L0183HKbv3M/видео.html
What size cargo net is it? it looks bigger than a standard one?
It's 48" by 60" but you can tell I overstretch it just a little
How much did your gas mileage decrease with the carrier? Thanks
I couldn't give you exact number but it definitely has decreased maybe 1 or even 2 miles per gallon :\
Y
I haven't taken the time to calculate the difference
HOW CAN YOU SLEPP IN HOT SUMMER! WHERE AIR CONDITION ?
I hardly do haha 😅

nice ! can u give me link for fan ?
For sure! I bought it at Walmart www.walmart.com/ip/O2COOL-10-inch-Battery-or-Electric-Portable-Fan/49332866?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=1088&adid=22222222228037939268&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=80425570129&wl4=aud-482018033502:pla-177659365489&wl5=9014048&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=49332866&wl13=1088&veh=sem&gclid=CjwKCAjw3qDeBRBkEiwAsqeO7r9yzPNx-SmLdm_Bp9TVvzXUSrXAWxg1h8ot46ZGI24ScDopTrToQBoCxv0QAvD_BwE
How did you make those drawers?
Bought 1" thick board, cut it to size to fit the sides, back and top for my car, then cut, stapled, and glued together. Then got 1/4" thick plywood, cut, stapled, glued those to normal boxes with no top. Lastly, bought a long metal L bracket, cut it to inside dimensions, screwed them in and the drawers slide on the bracket
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
recognize the license plate stlye... what part of texas bro?
Haha nice, but prefer not to say. Hope you can understand
Nice....
Thanks!
was wondering why you don;t have soem sort of cookingstove or so... hope you are safe and OK in your car; it seems quite small amd limited; and what is with all these shoes!??!?
It is very small haha I do have a camping cooking stove! and I have a lot of hobbies that need different shoes but I've reduced it recently haha
How long do the batteries last in that fan it must take several D batteries
Honestly not very long! About 2 weeks best. Currently looking for alternative means. I'll let y'all know if I find a solid solution!
Can u give the link to the roof net
www.autozone.com/cargo-boxes-bags-and-storage/cargo-net/highland-bulkhead-trunk-storage-net/120619_0_0
Congratulations! Nice basic build, practical and inexpensive. As you make trips and travel more, you will come up with ideas for things you would like to add to your build. Larger container for water, flashlight or two, first aid kit, a propane stove with basic pot/pan/dishes. Also, you might want something to carry for you personal safety...I will leave that choice up to you. Best wishes, and thanks for sharing your build with us.
Ha yeah, I'll definitely have my personal safety covered! But yeah! I plan to get a compact propane stove to use both for backpacking and cooking in my car! Should be coming in the end of the week so a video will include how well that turns out!
Any chance on a link for the cargo net?
Super late but here you go! www.autozone.com/cargo-boxes-bags-and-storage/cargo-net/highland-bulkhead-trunk-storage-net/120619_0_0

Hey! So I got it at autozone! I believe this is the right one:

possibly could be this one though:

Nice
Thanks!
You need fitted sheets and a washing machine. Dump all the shoes
Ha thanks for your opinion. The sheet I have now is more than enough and I wash at public washes or friends so I'm good

Lives in world’s smallest camper conversion. Loses a fan. Clearly that rig is too big when you are losing stuff in it...
Seriously though - nice clean minimal build. Good job.
Thanks man! Greatly appreciate! I have slightly modified my setup and will have to make a new tour video soon!
hi mikee
lol
where can l get that mattress
On Amazon! Look up bamboo charcoal mattress topper
6
could someone who is 6'1 sleep in a rav4?
Yes, just a longer bed build out and/or a full bed so you can sleep diagonally if needed
Remove or build a bed out over front passenger seat. Check out people living in Priuses
Where do u eat dude ?
In my car or at the office. Usually at the office since I work early and stay late.
Sound taller when you say 67”
I agree. Had to think about it for a sec. He's 5'5.
@@jadetheadventurer5476 haha not 5'5" you might want to check your math

Sorry, I hit the dislike by accident, I wanted to see what these guys problem was haha, I’m a old 50 year old nerd....
you can hit the dislike again to remove it and then hit the like.
Minimalist would be a sleeping bag and memory foam. This is far from minimal.
Haha sure 👍🏽
Feel that bed mmm
STAHHPPP
Very good set up...except, where do you poop and pee, shower, cook, eat.....you know, every day things like that.....
Haha it was really funny reading your comment. To answer it, I typically go to the gym in the mornings which covers my morning hygiene. I'm a workaholic, so I stay late at work and will usually cover most my evening hygiene there
You can pee in a 500ml plastic bottle and throw out the pee, then rinse bottle with disinfectant and water to be ready for next pee use.
For poop kakaing, you do it in the public bathouses and toilets.

Have I seen this? I'll know if I see you feet.(think I saw one like this he had on flops or bare feet.)
My nigga u leaving in a car get ride of all them extra shoes ..
There are some things one can just not let go of haha
Hang a shirt you don't care about near the window or the sun will bleach out your clothes.
With the front sun shade and blacked out tint, my clothes have actually not bleached! Good tip though!
