There is no building a story in Bring Your Own Book. Everyone grabs a book, and then someone reads a prompt. Everyone else races to find a phrase in their book that satisfies the prompt. Then (like apples to apples) the prompt reader chooses his favorite. Every time someone wins two prompts everyone passes their book to the left. It is very fun!
Just played this one the other day, and I was stuck with "Financial Sanity: How to Manage Your Personal Finances" and boy, did I have to make some creative choices XD
Chiming in with Paperback! The book/author theme is pretty secondary, but the word-crafting/deck-building aspect should work great for anyone who considers themselves a wordsmith 😁
Yes, but what about books for board game lovers? How long do you think it will be before we get board game lit, similar to litrpg? Where there is a story about someone inside a board game? And we follow along with baited breath while they order their meeples around and bump tracks?
Great video as always! Let me just add Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle, this is one of my family’s favorite games, a really great cooperative deck building game!
I have been diving into books in 2024 more than ever and it has been a blast. My partner and I have been playing a TON of Artisans of Splendent Vale and I'm so happy to see it on this list, it is the perfect game for book lovers :) We've even been playing it from the comfort of our couch which has been great. I also just bought Eila and Something Shiny so I'm excited to crack that open soon!
Thanks for the list! Definitely a few games I want to check out that I didn’t know about or had overlooked (like Call to Adventure). One recommendation that hasn’t been made is The Witcher: Old World. I love that game and the novels are good as well!
Love it when I come across overlap of my favorite things. Big fan of Brandon Sanderson. I have Call to Adventure Stormlight Archive, but how did I miss Reckoners?? Love this topic to tie together books and games, great idea!!
Mild confession, I saw yall at level up, u were literally the first table of people I saw when we walked in on Friday afternoon. Immediately upon deciding to come say hi and introduce myself, yall looked right at me lol annnnddd "oh nooo, gotta go".... next event I promise I will say hi. Really appreciate u guys implementing "positive mental health" into your program. I know many people suffer far worse than myself, so I try not to harp on it. Either way, love the channel and all the content. Thank you for being you!
Sorry if I missed this suggestion but Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective is great for book readers. It’s a mystery solving game where you’re reading newspapers and questioning witnesses to try to beat Sherlock to the answer. I never beat him but it’s still a lot of fun. Great list!
Love the stormlight archive! I am also just reading oathbringer again. Got rhythm of war a couple months ago but completely forgot what had happened so I had to read it again 😅
@@FostertheMeeple that is absolutely hilarious! Re-reading 3500 pages definitely seemed questionable at the beginning, but it's totally worth it, I love everything about this series!
yay!! bookshelf tour?!?!! pleeeeease 😊 I think booklovers would also enjoy a good abstract game like Qawale… also Spires End: Hildegard is a fav solo story game of mine, and there’s Mind MGMT and Once Upon a Time is fun. Our family loves playing Bring Your Own Book over zoom! Great game 💕
While watching this with the wifey on the tv, I had to pull up the phone app just to comment +10,000 to Jeff's enjoyment of the Stormlight Archive! I love anything by Brandon Sanderson!
Mother of Frankenstein is set in the world of Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein. It is a little more escape room than board game. There are three volumes! We have enjoyed the first and got the next two for Valentine’s Day. Great video! Can’t wait to check out book club :)
This was a great one - I have read almost all of Brandon Sanderson's books. I am reading through The Sigma Force Books by James Rollins and the Orphan X series by Gregg Hurwitz. I really like Thrillers as well!
Love the subject matter of this video! You guys as a couple still leave me happy at the end of the night. I would add: the dwarves big box , novels by Markus heitz
Black Sonata & Red Rising are two of my favorites. Of Lord of Rings games, "The Confrontation" by Reiner Knizia is my favorite. It is a very asymmetric game like Stratego. And a book channel? Nice! I read a variety of books; I just finished "Resistance" by Jennifer Nielsen (read with my daughter) and I am now reading the Formula 1 book "How to Build a Car" by Adrian Newey. I recently finished the third "Red Rising" book and it was terrific.
Any Jane Austen as she wrote in the Regency era and Obsession board game as it takes place in the Regency era. I personally would recommend Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility but really any of her novels are excellent. Those are also her most popular and most familiar books to most people, and I think the two that have the most on-screen adaptations.
The Name Of The Rose is supposed to be pretty fun, based on the book. I would like to see one based on The Island Of The Day Before. If I designed it, it would have hidden movement on the ship, a trip to the island using underwater gear (to win or lose the game), and a time-shifting mechanic centered around the international dateline. Anyway, I thought of it first, so this is proof of concept.
Can anyone recommend a publisher that would help me get this made? Kickstarter first? Edit: In two weeks time, I've made a fully functioning game based on this book. Now, it's time to play test it.
Trick taking is a mechanism in card games where all the players play one card, and the person who played the best card wins “the trick”, by taking the cards and counting them together as one “trick.” Classics trick-taking card games are bridge, hearts, spades, or my family played pitch. Modern trick-takers include Fox in the Forest, the Crew, and Brian Boru (and many more!). I love trick-taking games!
@@ValorantRivals no, I think it would technically be considered a “shedding” game. Not everyone has to play one card per round and decides who wins that round (aka the trick).
@@ValorantRivals it’s one of my favorites for sure. It’s a layer of strategy and has a little bit of pushing your luck, trying to predict what others might have, even a little bit of trying to read the faces of the other players. If you want to buy a cheap one, Fox in the Forest is very cheap and everyone I have played it with has at least liked it. Another game that has gone over well with every group I have played it with is Cat in the Box.
Artisans of Splendent Vale looks so cool 😯 Are you going to get Undaunted 2200 Callisto? Btw! I have the same DJI mics and they just came out with an official DJI lavalier that you might check out!
Oathbringer is amazing. Unfortunately book 4 is very slow and weird. Alot of side plots. Incredible ending though. I really hope book 5 delivers! December cant get here fast enough

Red Rising is my all-time favourite book series (fandom, really). I would not say it is young adult, though. The first book is borderline young adult but things quickly escalate and by the second part of the series (Iron Gold, Dark Age, Lightbringer) it is definitely not young adult. The Stonemaier game is fine. The interactions between the characters (the heart and soul of the series) is very thematic. However, I do wish it were more epic in feel. The books range across the solar system and have epic space battles and land battles and is full of political intrigue. Admittedly, that's difficult to capture in a board game but this is a series that deserves something more along the lines of a TI4 scope rather than a card game with some extra bits. I like the game but because I LOVE the books I was still a little disappointed. On the other hand, I think The Reckoners is the ideal for all book-based games to strive for. It's incredible and feels epic. Did you know that there is an expansion for it? Steelslayer. It basically adds the second and third books in. I haven't played the expansion yet but I recently played the base game and it was a huge hit, again.

Well, I used to watch those book videos and they were amazing! I was surprised when I found you doing board game stuff!
Hahah we were so young
Great list! Also love the stickers that show which games are on BGA. A couple of others I would add are Paperback and Hardcover!
Thanks!!

There’s so many great games to explore!
Mythic Mischief is also a great game with a library related theme.

Stormlight archive is wonderful… although those books are so much more of a commitment than his mistborn set or the lovely “stand alone” 🤫😉 one s.
LOVE Mistborn. You’re right though, the Archives are for sure his epic series.
