Hi Laura, I just wanted to thank you and let you know how your videos have been a blessing to my family. My mother has stage four breast cancer after having had a relapse after 8 years of being cancer free. She has always had a green thumb and loves plants. We found your channel a few years ago when we were looking for succulent inspiration. She is not very tech savvy but learned how to use RUclips just to watch your videos. I don’t think she’s missed a video since then. She loves to go in her back yard and apply new tip and tricks from your videos. She’ll have my dad order plant food online when she can’t find it in our local garden centers lol We hear a lot of “ well Laura says you need to” . I’m glad we found your channel because gardening is something she has a huge passion for and watching her work in the backyard you’d never be able to tell that she has stage four cancer. She even tries to have little garden shows for our family (: We appreciate you guys and are very thankful for all the knowledge that you share. We love watching how happy she with her growing garden. I wish you , Aaron, and little Benjamin all the best and hope you have an amazing day. 🌸
What a beautiful post, Corina! Please tell your sweet Mama that a fellow garden (& Garden Answer) lover from Texas is praying for her! Much love and happy planting ❤💕
That's heart breaking, but her being able to garden it's a huge help for her. Check this out for your mom, maybe it helps. God bless 🙏 www.chrisbeatcancer.com/james-templeton-30-year-stage-iv-melanoma-survivor/
So sorry to hear about your mum. Plants help the mind so much and I hope this keeps you positive. My friend had breast cancer three times and has now been clear for 15 years. Never think your mum won’t win. Love and kindness to your family 💕❤️
Channels like yours are so informational to people like me, who live in Norway. Because the gardencenters here don't offer information. We have a few big companies only, and they don't hire people with experience, or even interest. They're just hired to work in a store. It's too bad. I am so happy that I have RUclips and the internet to educate myself.
Same here in the Netherlands. They are inexpierenced, can never answer my questions. Most plants have no tags, barely a name so most of the times I don't even know if I'm dealing with an annual or perennial. It drives me nuts.
Thank you for all the great information. People are noticing the difference in my flowers and garden and asking how come. I tell them to watch your videos and they will get inspired to do more. A lot of them have and we sit around and talk about what you covered that we like. We are all in our 60's and can't believe how much energy you have. Also the fact that it is so hot there and it doesn't seem to phase you. I don't know how you do it. We are all definitely enjoying our Laura club!
I really appreciate that you explained what happens to soil with an iron deficiency! You put it in such a nice simple way that I got it. Thanks for always trying to educate us!!
What a positive energy person you are Laura!! You have no idea how much positive energy I do get from watching your videos!!! God bless your heart and your family 🙂🌹
Strictly speaking, chlorosis is *any* yellowing of leaves due to loss of chlorophyll. The chlorosis in Laura's plants - with yellow tissue but bright green veins - is an iron deficiency, but other types of chlorosis (overall yellowing vs spots vs green veins) or chlorosis affecting certain parts of the plants (only new leaves or only older leaves) will have other causes, as Laura mentioned - typically over/underwatering, nutrient deficiency, nutrient unavailability (too high or too low pH - most plants like a pH between 6.0 and 7.0 - that is, a slightly acidic soil). For instance, in my area, the most common cause of chlorosis is a lack of nitrogen (you'll see yellowing in the older leaves and the veins will be same color as the leaf tissue) and the second most common reason is a lack of iron (you will see yellowing in newer leaves and the veins will be bright green). As Laura said, if you aren't *sure* what your plant is lacking, contact your local county's Master Gardeners or a local garden center.
Thank you for helping me finally understand why just adding iron may not do the trick. I also have a high alkaline soil living in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Definitely going to get me some Espoma Acidifier and Irontone! Thank you Laura!
Very informative! I'm sure there are lots of GA followers who will benefit from this video! Espoma REALLY has great products & I've been using them for years! FYI! Either THAT Red Pointe maple has a crooked trunk or it's leaning! On a side note...Shame on whoever misspelled Deere in the description! Btw, John Deere might not be as "forgiving" about this error as I am! Lol! Thanks for another educational video, guys!🌾💜
Hey Laura, did those Crocosmia ever bloom? You know, the ones you planted behind the greenhouse in those cedar beds? Just curious to know when they bloom and for how long. Thanks!
So weird i was just talking to my mom yesterday about one of my plants going yellow like this...and i didn't know why....thanks so much for the video it solved my problem 😊
Thank you for doing all these wonderful planting videos. It changes my life, I can now plant my own garden after watching all your video from knowing nothing until now
You look so adorable riding your tractor! I love the story that Corina Hernandez shared about her mother. I'm so sorry to hear about her mother, but I'm happy that she can still enjoy some gardening. I'm on a disability retirement and 60,, and cant do everything I'd like to, but THANK YOU LAURA, you inspire us to get out in the yard. I live in zone 9 and I deal with riverbed soil, alot of prep work! I do a lot of containers!!! Thank you and bless you and your family for what you bring to us. (A h&k for Benjamin).
This is just a heads up for anyone dealing with chlorosis as well. Some times it's not soil related. This year, we here in Iowa are experiencing a very hot and dry summer and this is causing me to water my gardens daily by hand. I started seeing the telltale signs of chlorosis and when I asked my local nursery for help, she informed me that our town's water has very high levels of sodium which can also cause chlorosis. In a normal year the spring rains wash this sodium away. I'm treating it as recommended by Laura and hope that it will correct itself when our weather gets back to normal.
I'm dealing with a lot of iron and ph issues in my hard clay soil. Most of the plants I've put in do ok, but there are several that look just like the ones you showed. I've treated them once last year...now I know I need to keep doing it. Thank you for all of the great information!
Really good explanation of getting the soil right in order to treat the problem correctly and successfully. Very easy to follow, especially with the example. Teach one, see one, do one. Excellent. Tfs. I am going to try this on my shrubs. They are really showing those signs. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great timing. I just had a tree expert come out and look at our trees and I have been trying to decide what and how to apply the iron he told me the trees needed.
Thank you for videos like this one! I adore your garden tours and can’t wait to see another one, but these informational videos are the bomb too! Just what I needed to learn today. 😊🌺
That was a big help! I just recently noticed my limelight hydrangea standard's leaves were starting to look like this. I thought it was due to the amount of rain we've neen getting in NJ. I will discuss with a gatden center.
Hey Laura, I was curious what would be the affects if you added this to plants that possibly didn’t need it, or added to much. Would there be a negative affect? The iron-tone is the one I’m asking about. Thanks.
I told someone about "romancing the ordinary". Isn't it a wonderful thing that we have this thing called internet. Not only can your mother pass her wisdom to you but you can pass it to others with whom you wouldn't have prior to this amazing tech. Thank your mama for me for one that I will pass to my daughter.
HI Laura, I realized through this video on chlorosis that my hydrangea and butterfly bush both had it. So I treated with soil acidifier and iron tone and it is like magic! Thank you so much! (our soil is high alkaline so I think the acidifier is good for it anyway).
Thank you for this! I noticed some of my plant's leaves looking that way and wondered what was going on. Now I know how to fix it! You guys are great! I love your videos!
Thanks Laura for answering the "why" questions when it comes to using various products. The info really helps especially when my neighbors ask me how I get my plants looking so good!
I have terrible soil & it's slowly gotten a little better, but I do have iron issues in alot of my beds & calcium issues in my garden. 🤦♀️ Espoma is the only thing I'll use & I love that stuff because even though it is a "slow release" fertilizer, it doesn't take long to see the effects of it working on your plants. And I love that!
Hi Laura. Thank you so much for explaining about the types of soils and what I can use on my plants and grass to help them grow healthier. I actually understand it now.
Earlier this year, on my hydrangeas, roses and blueberries, I had what seemed to be an iron deficiency, but also we had a ton of rain (everyday for 2 months). I couldn’t find iron-tone, so I used Holly-tone instead. Applied just once this year and it fixed my problem fast. Espoma is just the best out there.
I’m dealing with this also, plus blossom end rot on my tomatoes🤦♀️. I believe it’s the watering, because it has rained so much and then very hot and humid days. 🌻
Laura I used iron tone for the very first time. It was on my hydrangea and it worked. I still have a little bit of yellowing but it's so much better. Thank you
Thank you for all of this! I like that you explained the product and the timing when you might see change. And you demonstration and showed examples. So great! I'm a visual learner and this just super duper!
Thank you, Laura! So timely! I just mentioned to my husband this morning that I was going to buy some of this fertilizer for our oldest Nikko Blue Hydrangea. It has lime green leaves while the others have deep dark green.
Great video! I have a ???? Could iron and gypsum be added to a lawn at the same time? We have clay soil (MN) but it’s also very hot and humid weather right now. I’m thinking the soil could use a little cocktail. 🍸
Here in the Boise, we are having the same problem throughout the area. Many trees are yellow and getting curly leaves. I believe is due to the heavy rain we had in spring. The grasses are not performing as well either. Your video is so informative and helpful.
Hi Laura and Aaron! This was a very informative and useful video. I love the way you always explain things and why you use them, instead of just recommending it and leaving the research for us to do. Thank you for sharing!
This may seem like a silly question. If you live in an area that gets very little rainfall and your garden is on drip irrigation, what, after the initial watering in, gets the iron into the soil? If the drip is at the rootball wouldn’t it miss the drip line of the tree or shrub? Do I need to water the area by hose after applying the iron for the rest of the season.
Thank you!!! this is just in time for my poor camellias! I am in super alkaline southern cal and have been dealing with unhappy acid lovers. i'm going to home depot tonight and treating tomorrow!
Here in Indiana, chlorosis is most problematic in Red Maples and Pin Oaks. I have seen it very little in other tree species. I have major chlorosis problems in my Rhododendron. I have slightly alkaline soils. They like acidic soils. I have been adding HollyTone to help lower the pH.
Hi Laura, can you tell me if the darker, maroon leaf plants get chlorosis? If they do would you let us know what those leafs might look like? Thank you for sharing so much knowledge with us, you’ve helped me so much!

Holy crap, your knowledge of gardening is incredible.! Thanks for sharing it with us, I am Sooo Thankful I found you last fall searching for info about African Violets, I watched a marathon of Garden Answer videos last winter, wishing it was spring.
Hi Laura! I love watching your videos. I have a South and East border of Lilacs around my house and the leaves are turning brown. It did it last year and lost most of the leaves in August. Is there anything I can do? I absolutely love my backyard and it's just heartbreaking to watch. BTW, I live in zone 5 ( Iowa ) if it matters. No other plants are going through this.
This video is really helpful! I knew you had talked about chlorosis once before, so how timely that it is the subject of today's video--I had just purchased some iron tone! I think I will do a ph test this morning too, since you had talked about availability at the lower ph. Maybe I need another run to the garden center.
Thanks i learned something being i just created my containers with good garden soil or potting mix o don't have that problem this year. No yard but someday it might be a issue if i do
Thank you for your video. Now I know why two of my plants are turning yellow. I'm new to gardening, how can I found out what my PH balance is in my soil.
Your videos are golden!! 🥇⭐️👏🏼✨🙌 I learn so much from you, and appreciate the variety of information you put out as well as your thorough explanation of everything. Thank you!!-- stay cool, safe, and hydrated today!! 🥵🌞💚🌳😎
Laura, I’ve recently discovered your videos and absolutely love them and have learnt so much. I live in the UK and was wondering if Espoma trade under a different name here as I can’t find of the products you are referring to in your videos. Thanks and keep up the great work 😊
Thank you for the information. I'm in a zone 6 and we have clay soil. My crabapple is in bad shape. Leaves are yellow with dark veining but its also dropping its leaves. This tree is close to 47 yrs old. Its planted in the south part of our yard which is in full sun.
@@patricialucas6358 Any ideas on what I should do? Remember my area had an unusually wet spring this year. I plan on stopping at s local nursey as well.
I’m having this issue on some container citrus plants. I was about to order some iron tone from amazon when I saw this video! Will it be fine for container plants too? I guess just use a lot less.

Janice Sisson Try Ironite, which is what I have been using and works great. for acid, check out your local nursery.
No yard but someday it might be a issue if i do
Thanks for that information my one hydrange some of the leaves are yellow on the ends so I will have to get some for it!
Great explanation! Now I understand more about the products and how they relate! Thank you!
Extremely helpful thank you.
Would you use this by itself or with other fertilizers? Example a rose that needs iron and a rose tone?
Thank you for your video. Now I know why two of my plants are turning yellow. I'm new to gardening, how can I found out what my PH balance is in my soil.
Just the information I needed. Thanks!
Hi Laura. Wondering if you can add the iron tone on top of landscape fabric? Thank you 🙏

Michelle Brady that sounds like apple scab with the spots and leaf drop
@@patricialucas6358 Any ideas on what I should do? Remember my area had an unusually wet spring this year. I plan on stopping at s local nursey as well.
What would be a good perennial to use as a hedge? Part shade is the area and in zone 5 and 6
Hi Laura can I use this on my cucumbers and zucchini plants? I have yellow leaves on them
Interesting. When I had another home I had plants everywhere and had that yellowing. Did not know what to do with it.
I’m having this issue on some container citrus plants. I was about to order some iron tone from amazon when I saw this video! Will it be fine for container plants too? I guess just use a lot less.
Thank you!!!!! This video was extremely helpful!!!
OMGosh!. This was the exact kind of info I was looking for. You rock! Thank you sooooo much!
