"He is kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned"
Yup. You have to teach a new generation WHY we like Superman in the first place. They did it with Captain America and look how that turned out. Make being kind look cool!
especially for the younger generations who are coming up in an era where kindness and empathy is being twisted into a bad thing, a "political agenda" among many in society over the last decade or so, so characters like Superman & Captain America are even more important now than they ever were before.
the background for the Kinda Funny DCU set is 10/10 🔥
Brave and the Bold and Lanterns is all I’ve ever wanted. Also, Tom King being an architect is insane. Easily my favorite writer right now
Sheriff of Babylon is powerful and devastating
I like everything but Heroes in Crisis. Poor Wally West
One could only hope, maybe DC will finally get its well-deserved dues. Fingers 🤞
God I hope we see Dick Grayson as Nightwing in Brave and the Bold. I'm SO excited to finally see the bat family on the big screen. It's long past time.
Yes a whole hourlong Screen Cast on this! Thanks, guys!
Greg, you need to read “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and The American Way?” It’s one of Superman’s best and most iconic stories and centers around Superman’s conflict with The Authority.
Guys, Brave and the Bold sounds like everything I've ever wanted
Hearing Greg spout off decades of DC comics history off the cuff is always a treat.
Green Lantern as a series rather than a film is such a great idea. The Green Lantern Corps lends itself so much better to longform storytelling, and I'm very excited to see what they do with it.
i hate it
@@boochtron Why, you want another Green Lantern 2011?
I’m cool with starting with Damian only if it means this is a Batman with history and has had the other Robins, leaving the door open for Nightwing and telling the Red Hood story. I love the idea of part of Batman’s arc in the DCU being about fatherhood.
Leaving the door open for Gal Gadot, Mamoa’s Aquaman, and Ezra’s Flash and NOT Cavill is really weird to me though tbh
They need to get rid of Ezra, period. And though I agree because I LOVE Cavill, I guess it’s because they’re redoing Superman altogether.
@@Lauren-zx3gx agreed. Ezra can’t stay but they won’t say anything until after the movie is out
I totally agree! I believe the follow up film after the brave and the bold must be a Red hood adaptation. If the themes of the bat family are present throughout the entire dcu, then this is what it’s gotta be.
@@AlexLove631 they shouldn’t have put all their eggs in a basket… what’s crazy is that his stuff aren’t allegations, either. But oh well.
@@brandom5007 that’s all I want. Jason/Bruce’s story is beautiful and tragic and full of emotion. One major fuck up Snyder did, other than murderer Batman, is have a veteran Batman without a batfamily. Affleck would’ve owned the red hood story IMO
Greg's face when Tim mentioned The Authority is gold
Wonder Woman Historia proves that you can tell an amazing story about Thymescara without Wonder Woman. Everyone forgets how steeped in Greek Mythology Wonder Woman is, and we could get so much fantastical mythological shit in Paradise Lost.
LOVE the use of the of the screens for these! Looks great when they're made for these special events
If that Authority movie sets up an adaptation of “What’s so funny about truth, justice, and the American way?” I will ascend
Voila Davis as Amanda Waller always reminds me of Patrick Stewart as Prof X. A fantastic actor and pitch perfect casting that transcends the mediocre movies they've been in. She's too perfect not to keep in the DCU
Everything looks super fun! I’m excited that Reeves is going forward with his Batman universe as well. Hyped as a DC fan for this content to finally come together.
Weird seeing people be so dismissive of the Authority when it's one of the greatest comic runs ever. Created by Warren Ellis, one of the best comic writers of all time across Marvel, DC, Image, etc. And yes, it may sound kinda like "The Seven" from The Boys, but The Authority comics released a full 10 years before The boys hit the stands.
There is a reason this is labeled as James Gunns passion project. It could become many folks favorite comic book film once it's done and released. Especially if it gets the hard R rating it needs to faithfully tell the story.
Also, of note to Greg. The 2nd volume of The Authority was written by Mark Millar (Superman: Red Son, The Ultimates, Ultimate X-Men, Wanted, Kick-Ass, Kingsman, and many others). Volume 3 of The Authority was written by Grant Morrison. Sadly the series was literally abandoned as DC launched "The New 52" and Grant had to much involvement in that to worry about The Authority.
So for The Authority to get 3 of the greatest comic writers of all time, and also some of the best artists... it meant something. It was special. ;)
I'm happy with what was announced. Superman, TBATB, Supergirl and Lanterns are my highlights. I hadn't heard about the architects before this video though so that has me crazy happy!
Honestly, I am just excited for Greg with all this information. Greg and all the DC fans deserve some damn good news man.
Damian Wayne has been my favorite Robin since he was created. He’s like a kid version of Vegeta, in that he is an arrogant little shit but he can back it up. He doesn’t just talk the talk he walks the walk.
The future is bright for DC
Great use of the set for this one!
Always a pleasure nerd out with the best friends!!
Congrats on hitting 300k Subs
Will you guys be shelving DCEU In Review and starting fresh with the new movies and shows?
I'm really looking forward to the Lanterns show. I've been a huge Green Lantern fan since the Justice League cartoon and while we still get lots of good comic book stories the fact that we haven't gotten a movie or show since the Ryan Reynolds movie makes me so sad. While I have some reservations about jumping so far into the Batman timeline that Damian is a factor I trust Jame's vision.
Would be interesting to see the way they would treat Cyborg in this universe especially since the approach they’re taking is very character driven and I feel like that would help make some really emotional Cyborg content
I was hoping you guys would react to this! Thank you!
hearing they're doing the Authority makes me wish someone would finally make a film or animation adaptation of Judge Dredd's "America" story. DC briefly had the license years ago, wish they could go back to that well one more time, as it's one of the greatest Mega-City stories and one that's more relevant than ever before. such a missed opportunity.
I love the rainy video wall!
that background is amazing for TIm and Greg.
Nightwing just peak over Greg’s shoulder like Nick Scarpino going “Teehee”
As stoked as I am for this new approach, I am a little bummed that Shazam and Aquaman are presumably going to the chopping block.
Been excited ever since they made it official that Gunn would take over and so far this looks promising. I actually didn’t know that Xolo was cast as Blue Beetle; that’s awesome. I’m looking forward to Lanterns the most out of everything announced.
Don’t know if Greg reads the comments but I’m curious as to his take on Clark in Superman & Lois. I love that series.
I was just about to sit down and watch the announcement and this notification popped up
I'm excited for all this stuff but still sad because I'm so hyped for the Blue Beetle movie and I don't know how/if he'll fit in with the DCU.
It can easily fit in the dcu, we don't know the overall story so i think including him wont be that hare since booster gold is there
The Brave and The Bold is about to be the ultimate Batman movie
2:17 ah my favorite Beck song
I interpreted as Flash resets the universe which is followed by everything else being a part of DCU other than elseworlds projects. Which gets messy like Tim said because Aquaman 2.
Very surprised there wasn’t a Lobo movie or TV show confirmed since thats the prevailing rumor for Jason Momoa. Love the DC background for this though! Excited for the new DCU and more 4 hour In Reviews! 😂
You NEED to watch the newest SHAZAM trailer gentlemen. Might make you more excited.
I look forward to them adding Elseworlds to future seasons of Superman & Lois in the CW, and also on the upcoming Suicide Squad game from Rocksteady. Plus also the Harley Quinn series on HBO Max and everything else JG already mentioned in his video today (Batman 2, Joker 2, Teen Titans Go).
My favorite thing that James Gunn said was that unless someone does something horrendously evil, they will not fire nor disown an actor or crew member for saying something that they disagree with, so for all those people that are suddenly in support of Pfizer you can back down. Don't know why people are so quick to defend the most evil pharmaceutical company around but it's pathetic.
This ^ 100,000,000%. James Gunn knows first hand too as he's been through the ringer himself. I fully am for and support vaccines, modern medicine, all science, logic, intelligence and critical thought. But people need to realize the world is not black and white. Grey areas exist. From everything I've ever seen about him, Zachary Levi seems like an amazing person. The most recent episode of Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum shows this even more. It is possible to like and support someone yet disagree with them at the same time.
@@IcemanDrake7 absolutely, and so many people were anti big pharmaceutical until it involved the COViD Vaccine and the dogmatic views of some people do not allow them to accept any criticism of that. I'm all for all of that, modern Medicine and vaccines are the reason millions, if not a billion people are alive today.
Starting with Damian is awesome. He is such an interesting little shit. Love it. A Robin that will straight up murder you. His redemption arc is awesome. Although I think introducing him lessens the impact of Red Hood especially if they do Damian's death [the first time he died] A 10 year old arrows raining down on him while facing down a giant adult enhanced version of himself. Damian refuses to back down and continues sassing the Heretic even as he's beaten to death. Brutal, gruesome and so sad.
I love Tom King. Idk if it would work, but I would love Mister Miracle to be adapted
You read my mind friend 😊
That background is fire.
I’m definitely most excited for Lanterns! I love Green Lantern and the fact that it’s both Hal and John is perfect. I never watched True Detective so I can’t say that idea is exactly what I would want but if it gets an HBO budget and quality then I’m all in.
this is not the lineup i was ever expecting of the new Gunn-led era of DC media, but i kinda like the chaotic energy he's bringing to things, just straight up changing pretty-much everything while only keeping a handful of things to anchor the new stuff, and making disparate works like The Batman & Joker "elseworlds" titles seems like a cool idea, opens the door for more unique stories to be told that don't have to be tied into the new DCU.
Tom king is fantastic. Very excited about him being involved
DC is so back! I’m back to the days of between TDKR and MoS levels of hype! Let’s gooooo
Anyone else think they will also introduce young John Kent? Live action SuperSons
One thing I'm most excited for are the costumes. James Gunn has shown that he knows how to make comic book costumes work in real life. Batman and Superman will have trunks, mark my words.
If James Gunn can do for DC what Kevin Feige did for marvel I am very excited for the next ten years of DC
It would be amazing if you could try a daily movie news show like Game Daily at some point.
They tried that with Screencast and the community just didn’t watch it. The community really only shows up for the legacy IP titles when it comes to movies and TV in regards to news. This pertains to stuff like Star Wars and Marvel. General movie news just didn’t move the needle.
The problem is that will they be able to retain any sort of audience effort until Superman comes out ? I would have opened with that to get the biggest audience possible to launch this new universe, going with small things that people might not care about is a bit risky
The Superman movie and the things he said about it afterwards have me so excited. I’ve been waiting for so long to see a positive, kind, and loving Superman on the big screen again
HOLY SHIT THIS IS MY FAVORITE SET DESGIN EVER!! Looks SO DOPE!!
Jesus Christ that background is 🔥
Super excited for Brave and the bold. Not to be the comparing everything to marvel but way more a DC fan than marvel though so my hype is at an all time high.
With all of the story synopses so far I truly hope they adapt the Heroes in Crisis story. That could let DC differentiate itself from Marvel in a huge way.
Tim saying fucking perverts. Absolutely hilarious
I know I’m a DC hater BUT something truly original they could do they haven’t done or MCU hasn’t done is Nightwing vs RedHood have a movie where nightwing kinda daredevil-lite hunts down the killer punisher-lite Red Hood & turns him so they are both hero/anti-heroes
Odd the only thing DC has MCU doesn't is the Trinity & James Gunn's 8-10 year plan does not include the Trinity I think mainly because we don't know the status of Gal Gadot yet is she in or out
Greg nailed it about WW fans. It sucks there’s just a prequel but hopefully it does lead up to something bigger for her
I am hyped for superman if done right. Then The mosted excited is the Latterns.
Hyped for this new DCU! I don't think they are including Comics like Tim said. I could be wrong though.
I always tend to have a different opinion then Gregg but im glad hes happy, i for one would love a wildstorms (image comics) shared universe movie, give me wildcats, give me cybernary, give me team 7, give me deathblow, heck even lesser known ones like stormwatch... i need these man... how cool would a witchblade and darkness crossover movie series be... damn.. i need this stuff
I would love to see swamp thing interact with Batman. I liked that Batman comic with him a lot
The Authority was wide-screen comics with Warren Ellis and Bryan Hutch. How the hell do you not get excited...sigh...
Wrong about the dates. We didn't only get a release date for Superman. We got a release date for the Batman Part 2
Does anyone know where Kevin has gone? Never see or hear him anymore
Creature commandos, Superman Legacy, Lantern TV show have peaked my interest and curiosity. The other stuff is very much lets see what happens, more so than the other stuff mentioned.
(I don't think I have the time anymore for more interconnected universes anymore, not to say they shouldn't make it, all I'm saying is that I need more content that is able to be taken as stand alone).
If they're recasting Batman and Superman then they have to recast WW as well.
They should of waited until at least 1 movie is out. Lot of this can still be canceled with the current WB CEO.
My literal only trepidation with any of this is tying the video games into all of this. I like the freedom of the games to be whatever they want have room to breathe story-wise and also just development time-wise. Also, I REALLY hope they recast Jason Mamoa as Swamp Thing!
I'm genuinely excited for Superman: Legacy, The Brave and The Bold, Lanterns, Booster Gold, Swamp Thing and of course The Batman Part II
After nolans batman nd current matt reeves batman the only batman movie thatll get me excited is either a batman beyond movie or a batman and robin(esp damien wayne) movie. And james gunn seems to understand what batman fans want. We need our live action robin and the rest of the batfamily. Thanks james 👌
Now i just need the batman beyond down the pipeline anniuncement.
Interesting note from Greg on the differences between Marvel and DC when talking about DC's characters being Gods and needing Monsters to fight. But I read it differently. DC's characters could be both Gods AND Monsters, depending on your point of view.
I agree about this reset thing being really messy, because they clearly want to have their cake and eat it, too. That The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker are being kept makes sense in that Gunn made those. But also it doesn't because The Suicide Squad was a sequel to Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker had DCEU characters in it.
And there IS a difference between an HBO show and an HBO Max show. HBO Max shows don't show up on the HBO cable network. Now did Gunn actually INTEND that difference? Hard to say.
I'm as skeptical as anyone, but I've been hearing for a long while now that The Flash is going to surprise people with how legitimately incredible it is, which goes a long way to explain why WB/DC has been so indeterminate on whether Ezra is in or out. Past that, though, this lineup is ridiculously exciting for me, having followed Gunn's career since Dawn of the Dead. Whether any of this stuff comes together, who knows, but I know James genuinely cares about every single one of these projects. He wouldn't have committed to something like The Authority is he didn't have a vision for it not just as a standalone project, but as a part of the larger DCU. The big one to me, though, is Brave and the Bold. If we're starting from a point of a seasoned Bruce who, assumedly, has already had multiple Robins and Barbara and an established Rogues Gallery...THAT is exactly what I wanted from the Snyderverse. No origins, no time wasted setting everything up so we have to spend years building to the basic status quo, we're just jumping straight in and the audience can figure it out. That's the approach DC has always needed to take and I am 100% here for it.
Fuck yeah Greg’s a fellow Tim drake stan
Shame we will never get Jonathon Majors as John Stewart.
That would be a great casting honestly
Start the 10 year reboot clock right…..now! 😂
DCU is in the same boat as Xbox once all these projects fall into place it’s going to be crazy
James Gunn is saying the movies in 2023 are connected to the DCU because they still have to promote these movies. I only expect Blue Beetle to be considered a part of the DCU if it’s popular. The others have a small chance but I can’t see Flash, Shazam, and Aquaman to be a part of the DCU.
As a MCU stan…
I’m more than excited for this super hero renaissance to keep on trucking. SKOOOO
Flash will hopefully answer all our questions.
"I don't like the american way, I like a better tomorrow--" ya we get it greg
I loved Tom Kings run on Vision and Grayson, don't really like his Batman run was kinda lame I think he does much better with smaller characters
Second time that Greg has sung CAKE on a podcast… i mean sure he thought it was BECK last time… but CAKE slaps.
The characters introduced is definitely making want a Justice League International TV show.
Kinda want to see Felix Faust and Hades in Paradise Lost
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a nuanced story of Supergirl following the aftermath of genocide and war crimes, and about finding strength in the face of horrifying crimes. It's one of the best comics of the last three years, and it has that IT factor, but it's a really hard book to read. Very depressing.
Greg, Gunn specifically said Blue beetle is DCU
I guarantee you, we’ll see who else gets killed after this year. Ezra looks like a safe bet if the movie really is that good. I bet Shazam gets canned within first 6 months of 23, flash could stay, aquaman and blue beatle will be box office dependant but I reckon they get canned too.
To be honest this is messy af. How do we know what’s happened, has the new superman met aquaman or flash? I guess we’ll see. All of this is new and exciting but can’t help but wish we got a full (and simple) reboot. I guess dc has a year of movies to put out so it’s not quite that simple.
I'm surprised gunn didn't announce the casting of the DC heroes
Baffles me how greg still doesn’t understand Wanda’s character in multiverse of madness. At the end of wandavision she is literally researching dark magic Hahahah.
To think what started this off was James Gunn getting (pretty briefly) fired from Marvel, good for him and hope DC fans get movies they and we all deserve
The possibility of Jon Hamm as Batman LIVES AGAIN!!
Damn son, look at that background
I feel like such a stick in the mud after these announcements. While I am excited to see all the projects, I feel like this is just as unfocused a slate as ever for DC. And I still don't understand where any of it is supposed to fit in a plan. It all sounds great, and with Gunn at the lead probably will be. But I am every bit as confused, if not more, than ever about where DC is going. Could absolutely change as these projects are released, but for now I still feel baffled.
In Drew Goddard we trust. Made the GOAT that is Daredevil.
