@@willsy444 true but I'd argue Cain's character change is more drastic since he just went from a little scheming scally who who was also a child groomer and was mostly the runt of the litter when it came to his family to nowadays being a kinda badass anti hero hardman who has old fashioned traditional family values which very much were not present during his early years ( just look at how often he used to smack about Charity and his daughter ) compared to phil who went from a local del boy type criminal who just got involved in the odd dodgy job and only fought when he had to to a bald angry guy who threatens to kill people over minor annoyances and who treats his family like shit a lot of the time and who punches people over the most minor things I'd argue Phil's character change isn't too drastic and sorta makes sense from a bad writing perspective where this is the sorta direction you could imagine him going when the character had been around for too many years and got stale and less complex. but Cain's character change is honestly frigging baffling its like he is literally a different character just played by the same actor tbh.
Brilliant video! I've come to realise there's no point in me saying "There were clips I didn't know about" anymore as there are loads from Emmerdale! Cain really wasn't likeable at all back then, he was like a mixture of Sean Slater and Nick Cotton and I rooted for almost everyone else in this vid. He also wasn't as tough during this stint, I think he'd do well to make a top 20 soap hardman list and the top 10 for ED
Thanks so much for your response mate! I agree Cain was a nasty git during this stint and he wasn’t really a Hardman, just a greasy tough guy who knew when he couldn’t beat somebody. For example, him not retaliating against Matthew & Jimmy and not fighting with Eli after he punched him twice 😂 that’s honestly a perfect comparison mate! Remember, requests are always allowed!
Missing a few small bits but cracking vid what a character he was on that 2000s stint shouldn’t have really brought him back tbf they have borderline ruined cain as have multiple other characters been aswell in the show since thier peak of the 2000s
Thanks so much for your response mate. Cain was easily such a psychopath in this stint. They ruined his spark so bad nowadays he’s nothing but a joke really. lol sorry for that error.
@@Hate_JJYT I view him more as a sociopath, I don't think he's a psychopath at all, when Angie dies you can see plenty of emotion from Cain. I think he was a problematic sociopath with a lot of trauma that he carried and as life went on he mellowed out, which isn't exactly unrealistic. Cain isn't the same these days, I think they should have used him as a Nick Cotton type character and had him appear for stints and disappear, but I think Jeff Hordley was an excellent actor and they wanted him full time.
Younger people who have only started watching the show in the last few years must be shocked when they see old clips of “fan favourite” Cain in the 00s, was one of the nastiest characters ever on the show, just a slimy, animal abusing child groomer and he was pretty much despised by the entire village and seen as a scumbag except for by his family (who he still treated like shit most of the time). He was also a lot more cowardly, always bullied wimps like Sam and Marlon but backed down against guys he knew he couldn’t beat. Tbh he was still like this when he returned in 09-11 (just much more well groomed than before), it was only after Zak nearly killed him that he started to change
Amazing analysis mate! As a 19 year old, my whole life I really watched Emmerdale so I was absent during his first stint. It wasn’t about a year ago people were telling me about how terrible Cain was in his “prime era” He was a nasty pedophile alright. When Cain returned he didn’t change at all. But in 2011, Cain was at his nastiest. Cheating on Charity with Faye, Grooming a 17 year old Amy Wyatt, slept with Jai’s sister Priya & had a full blown affair with Moira. I don’t know why all the women was crazy over him anyway it’s the same mystery with Max Branning
Cain has probably had the most drastic character growth of any main soap Hardman over the years tbh.
True to that.
Character change
Phil Mitchell comes close

to nowadays being a kinda badass anti hero hardman who has old fashioned traditional family values which very much were not present during his early years ( just look at how often he used to smack about Charity and his daughter )

to a bald angry guy who threatens to kill people over minor annoyances and who treats his family like shit a lot of the time and who punches people over the most minor things

Did they do a crossover with coronation street or did one or two of the actors around the 42 minute mark be in both shows?
They did a small crossover years and years ago with some of the soaps

Cain Dingle from Emmerdale vs Nick Cotton from Eastenders. Who's the better villain ?
