I am 54 years old... I can only say... I had the honor and privilege of listening and growing up with the music of the 80s. That time, that music is unrepeatable.
Snap - I'm 55 this year and likewise thoroughly enjoyed the 80's music, makes me feel old now watching them
Me 2, 55 years old!
56. The 80's will never be beat as far as music goes.
I'm 53. I didn't listen to this song when I was young, but holy cow, I had no idea what I was missing! I've been listening to it for two years now. There is nothing better. And, the video for this song, in my opinion, is the very best video that has ever been made.
Ditto!
I lost my eldest son and grandson. I then lost my dad. Recently I lost my husband. I feel so sad and alone. Then I came upon this song. Brought back so many memories of my younger days and how I felt when I first heard it all those years ago. It still brings tears to my eyes. Life can be an absolute bummer sometimes. I'm so happy to see Jimmy still singing and going strong. What an amazing voice and what an incredible life he has lead. Small-town Boy gives me the strength I need to carry on when I think all hope is gone. I can listen to it over and over again.....love this man ❤❤❤❤❤
my English is not so good. I wish you all the best from my heart.
@@johanvdend Many thanks ❤❤❤❤❤
Дай вам бог сил!
Обнимаю вас и даю свои силы.
Stay strong 💚 if you would like I can make you a playlist of songs like this from that era
@@TheSadSpeaker you are very kind. I've actually done this but am extremely grateful to you for your offer. Sometimes I feel so low I suppose like many others who have lost someone they love. It was our 21st wedding anniversary on the day he had a heart attack. He truly was my everything and knowing that there are lovely people in this world like yourself gives me the strength to make it through another day without him. Sending you a big hug and ❤
I feel sorry for my grandkids they will never realize how incredible the 70s and 80s were.
I was born in 89 and I feel like I missed the party
They will literally have access to every song and album from those decades, what are you on about?
@@Mayonnaisesucks730 don’t be so dense…. he’s not just talking about the music. It was definitely a time to be alive.
@@bradycintron7819 the irony of you calling anyone else dense while pretending those decades were magically happier and safer to live in, like there weren’t also horrendous things going on. Your dementia fuels your nostalgia, all this is is revisionist history. Go take your pills.
I'm a 2010s kid (almost, born in 2008) and I grew up listening to this music because of my mum, still listen to alot of it because it just sounds awesome
This song hasnt aged and neither has its singer. Top notch.
His voice definitely have. My ears 😭

I am sorry, but there hasn't been another decade of music that has even come close to the eighties. Truly amazing
Yep no kidding age of consent what an album or Cassette back then still rocks today tc stay safe
dance music was the BEST then! todays so called "singers" can't carry a tune without auto tune ,fireworks, and dancers to hide them
so true ...................chite today
What are you sorry about dude opinions are like assholes we all have one don't we!
Don't be sorry just fact
TELL ME WHY can he in this age, sing so clear and controled, respect for Mr. Somerville - lovely song!!
Because Jimmy is quality and quality stands the test of time 🥰
Those from the UK are something else. Rob Halford is the same way. He can still hit his music from the 1970's
Agree ! RESPECT is the perfect word for him 👍❤️🤩👏
Perhaps the answer are in the hormones, like the case of the ancien "castrato".
lol!@@manuelcvaz
In the 80s, they didn't have autotune, that's why they sound divine live! The voice as on a record! 😍
40 years have passed since this song released and I still get chills from that angel voice in 2024 ... I am so glad I grew up in that era of music
I was right there with you …
That synth line is pure gold and pure nostalgia!! I miss the 80’s

I left home as a teenager heading to London on the train with this playing on my Walkman-and it's never left my memory..Classic.

I watched the video, many times ,even though my sons don’t talk to me sometimes I never would kick them out of house

Yeah he’s lovely, if you’re into aliens, from outer space 👽
38 years , this song is as haunting , emotional and touching as the first time I heard it , and still get tears in my eyes every time , such an anthem for anyone feeling the torture of simply being born outside the world everyone else created. one love.
I hadn’t heard this in many yrs and it made me cry. I feel so alone in this world

Great tune.......great voice,......I'm 60, and remember when MTV was born....(1981),.....I still have their vid in my head from back in the day.....!!
Yeah me too,,,,
Probably the most evocative and melancholic intro ever composed.
Twenty notes that defined a generation.
This guy is young at heart, he will never grow old. I could see him at 100 years old and still performing.
So 100 is not old?
zimmer frame away, zimmer frame away, zimmer frame away. Joking aside, agree with the sentiment of your comment. An amazing song that I had no chance of understanding the meaning of aged 13, and still popular 35 yrs on as in this video
That voice is timeless.

Умер наш кумир😥😣
It's amazing that he can still sing in such a high voice, this really sounds just like it did back in the 80s.
Jimmy rules
It's called falsetto.
The bee gee's and brian wilson also sing like it.
@@Thiborfirenz Thank you, clown.
far more confident - finally.

Straight but bullied kid. The Age Of Consent album helped me finally face my bullies and man up. Jimmy and Bronski Beat drummed a drum. I heard it.
When he was younger he looked like an old man, now he’s older he looks like a young boy, he was literally born 40yrs old and has remained that way. My grandmother was obsessed with him, she’d scream in delight when he appeared on tv

Dude still got pipes. Worth bearing in mind that when he came out and proud it was to a much more prejudiced world where it might have killed his career. He's not only got pipes, he's got stones!

Nah…this one of Britain’s favourite songs.
Hairy arsed trucker ??? Expect a call from Jimmy!
Im 56 now and the 80s was the best years of my life. 😃 Bring back the 80s 👍
As a gay man, the same age as Jimmy, his music has been the soundtrack to my life and I am thankful for it.
He's saved many lives of younger people borne gay who couldn't see any future for themselves. Teen suicide among LGBT was always triple that of straight kids. Men like Johnny and Morrissey helped open many eyes to hope.
What a voice. He still has the range. Brilliant band.

I remember hearing this for the very first time in 1984 blaring out of a speakers outside a bar in Ibiza as I was walking by. It made me stop. I had to find out who it was as I had never heard anything like it before..It still makes me stop when I hear it even today..38 years on. What a song , what a voice, unique in the music world. The one , the only, Jimmy Somerville.
Yeah it's cracker. Nice comment btw
How was Ibiza in the 80s?
He should be revered for his incredible voice a lot more by the masses. What a song and vocals!
Agree!!
Goosebumps…his voice remains same…so freaking talented!
Had the pleasure of meeting him once, a head smaller then me, but for me… the greatest artist ever. He literally saved my life as a teenager. ♥️

Such a great moving song. Still so good 40 years later. One of my all time favourite. And Jimmy still rocking, what a fantastic singer.
This is still an absolute belter of a tune. It has never aged and will sound good in another 38 years time.
Just wow, how a song can relight so much nostalgia is amazing, growing up surround by bands like this sure makes me miss the 80s so much, recording the charts to a cassette and rewinding it by spinning it around on a pen because the rewind button had broken, and often pulling yards of tape out, kids these days will never know the struggle, i just can't listen to the sh!t that's in the charts now a day's. In the 80's i was a long haired, hetrosexual biker listening to heavy metal and i heard this on the radio and bought the LP. I played it to death purely because of Jmmy's voice and the emotion in every song. I think i was 17'ish then.....i'm now 56 and still love rock music but this guy still hits you 40 years on.
Those of us who have been through so many hard times will find this song very emotional...and his singing live is Amazing. I wish I could see the video but tears..so much 😢
I cannot agree more. It's true, it's moving and very emotional for me....sooo touching! I admire him singing at his age so very well! Only LOVE!
Impresionante Jimmy!!...con 63 años y canta igual que en sus años jóvenes de los 80's...y sin ayudas electrónicas ni nada....mis respetos 👏👏👏👏❤️

Memories of escaping to London from a rural community, early 20s, pink hair, rara skirt, leg warmers, DMs. Freedom, parties, new friends, new experiences.
The 80’s were different! I was young and we grew up fast but I feel blessed to have experience it.
He has a fantastic voice would of loved to have seen him live
I’m 46 years old. This song was played just before closing time at every goth club I went to. I always associate it now with the party being over. Should put this on my funeral playlist! So beautiful.
I was around 14 or 15 when this came out. I wasn’t out to myself or anyone, but I was bullied nonstop at school and abused at home. I knew I had to run away, but back then in the 1980’s things were so different & I didn’t know of any resources or places to help (especially if you were Black like me). I identified with the song and original video so much - of being assaulted and then blamed for it, of being given a few quid instead of a hug. It’s almost 30 years since I finally ran away & I’m out as bi and nonbinary now, but this song will always resonate with my life. Thank you, Jimmy for this tune.
I grew up with 80's music..such happy times and unforgettable music..Ireland salutes the 80's
I was a small town boy back in 84. Aged 16. Best years of my life hands down. ✌️😇
