I didn't hear this mentioned anywhere. I replaced my 2017 VW GTI battery today. It takes a Group H5 size battery for anyone looking for that information. As others have mentioned, lots of warning lights for a couple minutes, then they all just went away. Very easy to do yourself.
To reset the Christmas tree of dash lights after changing the battery, just turn the steering wheel all the way right, then all the way left, and then back to center again. That way you don’t have to worry about them during your initial drive.
Did everything work fine after? I’m changing my tomorrow but the dude at the auto part store said I had to take it to a dealership so it can register to the computer. Idk
@@oscarrojas9809 This might be necessary if you switch battery types. The original batteries in these cars are EFB batteries, and they do sell AGM replacements. I've read a good amount in the last two days (because my battery died and I'm about to do this) and I bought an EFB battery, almost identical to the one here in this video, but maybe one size larger (H5). From what I've read, you won't need to do any coding unless you switch battery types.
I didn’t update battery management. I actually didn’t even know about that. All I did was what you saw in the video. Remove and replace the car battery. No error codes or anything. Been running fine ever since.
I didn’t have any error codes after changing the battery in my GTI. It just worked just like in my other cars. But I’ve seen people comment here and on other videos that an error code needs to be reset. So I’m not sure what is the correct answer. Again I didn’t have an error code and still doesn’t. Hope this helps.
I had just changed my car batt recently and my fuel range info was displayed instead of the usual digital speedometer. How do I change this back again? My steering wheel have no buttons to navigate this by the way.
I didn’t have any issues changing the battery in the GTI. No error codes or anything. It’s been 2 years since I installed the new battery. No issues. I’ve seen people talking about recoding the battery but I’m not sure what they are referring to? It would be a hassle to change a dead battery if you had to do some kind of programming every time you do it.
I didn’t even think about having anyone change the car battery. I always do it on my own on my vehicles. I didn’t have any problems with warning messages on the GTI after I replaced my battery. And I don’t know anything about needing to program the computer afterwards. But if you go to an auto parts store like AutoZone or O’Reilly’s for example they’ll help you replace the battery no problem. And I think they do it for free after purchase. Hope this helps!
Terrible installation. This is the reason you should leave it to a PRO. Battery terminals must be roughed up, otherwise it's not making a good connection.

Followed these steps on a 2015 VW GTI. Lights came on, but went away after parking it to a different spot. Thank you for the video.

Lifesaver 👌
Holy shit you are a legend
❤❤❤❤
It’s still on what do I do?
Thanks for that comment 🙏🏻
Very helpful video, thanks for sharing! Replaced my battery in like 5 minutes.
Thank you so much for this video sir. You saved my life🙏🏾
This video was very helpful , as I'm about to chance my MK7 Golf battery. Thank you sir. 🙏
You’re welcome! I’m sure you’ll be able to change your GTI battery no problem! Thanks for watching!

Super helpful and great video! Thank you so much 🙏
Did you not update the Battery management system to tell the car you installed a new battery?
I didn’t update battery management. I actually didn’t even know about that. All I did was what you saw in the video. Remove and replace the car battery. No error codes or anything. Been running fine ever since.
Yes you do! Dealers want $125 if you can do it yourself....
I lost that bolt. What should I buy instead
Hi, do we have to do battery adaptation? Would there be showing any error code after replacing the battery?

What about battery adaptation ?

Is the process the same for a 2020 model?
The process to change the battery on a 2020 GTI/Golf should be very similar. I’m sure you can follow my guide for a 2020 model. Hope this helps!
@TheRenderQ yeah it was exactly the same, thanks. I'm glad they didn't make it unecessarily difficult in these cars

U need to reprogram the software don’t do this … take it to the dealership for sure
Wrong.

My 2017 died a few days ago…thanks!🫡
