  • From the Radiolab podcast: Maybe “normal” exists. Maybe it doesn’t. Maybe the only “normal” thing is change.
This episode -first released in 2009 and then again in 2015, with an update - asks, what is “normal”? Maybe it exists, maybe not. We examine peace-loving baboons with Stanford neuroscientist Robert Sapolsky, talk to Stu Rasmussen, whose preferred pronouns were he/him (zpr.io/nUdsZawNmhwt), and his neighbors in Silverton, Oregon about how a town chooses its community over outsider opinions. And lastly, we speak with an evolutionary anthropologist, Duke University’s own Brian Hare, and an evolutionary biologist Tecumseh Fitch, then at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, now at the University of Vienna, Austria, about foxes who love to snuggle.
And what we find is that normal - maybe the only normal - is change.
    Episode Segments:
    00:00 Peaceful baboons?
    24:48 New Stu - Silverton's two-times mayor was a trans woman.
    49:27 The evolution of foxes

If you search Ken Hale in Ashland, VA you'll find a story of a married man who dresses as a woman and is a daily spectacle riding a bicycle around town every day. The bike is decked out in bells, and he's known as "Jingles." Also a loved local citizen!

Listening to the baboon/fox parts: Sadly this might be an argument for the death penalty... though maybe it should be an argument for some sterilization...? Which of course is not something we can do. Though there are many that I wish would take that choice on themselves...

The fox theory explains why the most aggressive dogs such as Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Cane Corsos, Mastiffs, Boerboels, Dogo Argentinos, Rhodesian Ridgebacks etc. all have naturally pointy ears.
    Except none do.
Rather, if you select against aggression, you are selecting against the intelligence to perceive threats and opportunities and the hormones that cause confidence and aggression such as testosterone. This is unnatural and dysgenic in the real world and therefore will never continue on its own. Life sustains itself by eliminating the least well adapted which in any natural environment means the weak and timid. The most intelligent and aggressive will always get what they want first, which includes breeding, so they will always be the alphas.
Aside from such stupid theories advanced by this podcast, this podcast and those who produced it must be condemned for the extremely violent, tyrannical and dysgenic social policy it clearly advocates through a thin vail - i.e. we should kill all the alpha males and let the women rule. That is a beta male fantasy that not even women want because even they loath the idea of mating with stupid weak beta men.
    What a mid-wit production.

I enjoyed this production of Radio Lab, as I have enjoyed all that I have heard.
I have never heard of, "mid-wit," but I am quite confident that the folks who create Radio Lab are no more stupid than your typical brilliant and creative and scientifically sound person. So, you awesome people at Radio Lab, keep up the great work.

@@allamp6052 The propensity of the masses to follow blindly based on emotion rather than critical thinking, and to reflexively and vapidly attack those who critique their heroes, are the exact human flaws that tempts elites of every generation to manipulate and exploit the masses. The end result is our second rate human condition. They are the sheeple, and you lady are of them. Baaaaaaaaaaa!

"the most intelligent and aggressive will always get what they want first"
The stories didn't really address intelligence, so it's somewhat telling that you sought to conflate the two in your response.
Are you sure you're not just subscribing to this 'alpha male' worldview as a way to avoid confronting your anger management problems rather than working through them?

@@suzyb7718 I wrote “if you select against aggression, you are selecting against the intelligence to perceive threats and opportunities and the hormones that cause confidence and aggression such as testosterone.”
So while the video is about aggression, I assert it’s a function of both intelligence and confidence inducing hormones. Thus, I did not conflate aggression and intelligence as you claim, rather I asserted they are connected. Big difference.
Maybe you should spend more time reading comments carefully and less venting your resentments at alpha-males because they completely lack interest in you. :p
