Poor visibility due to heavy snow..... Fast and Hard landing breaks the cockpit part and engines are still working 😭 Condolences to all the family's who lost their love ones
Wonder if a more modern construction would have survived the landing. I know the video can't really give a realistic picture of the extreme forces a bomber jet must endure during touching the ground with higher than expected vertical speed, but still - the nose and cockpit broke off like it was tin-soldered in it's place.
As far as I can understand construction, the bomber is not purposed to survive heavy G-forces. It should be able to carry tons of bombs and fuel, but under gentle handling. Notice that landing gears survived the initial touch, but because the whole construction allowed G is only 2.5G, the center section broken.
The initial report of this mishap indicated that the ILS (Instrument Landing System) at the airfield was inoperative and as such, it is very likely that the pilots were being guided by what is known as a GCA (Ground Controlled Approach) which is a precision radar type approach assisted by the air traffic controllers on the ground. In this case it appears the pilot may have misjudged his glideslope (angle to the runway) and reduced power too much. This is indicated by the abnormally high sink rate (descent rate) which led to the high vertical impact which broke apart the aircraft (which no aircraft could have survived a landing with such a high descent rate). If this ends up being the case, it's likely the cause will be attributed to Pilot Error with contributing factors being the near zero visibility instrument meteorological conditions and lack of an operable ILS. Despite good training and experience of aircrews (regardless of their nation of origin), sadly such mishaps still happen from time to time.
No enlighted pistes there? No braking parachuttes at all? Overloaded bomber fly machins landings under this wind conditions should have been more carfully planned! RIP for the families!
