      @judyoh9008 2 года назад

      Sorry, I disagree that peanuts are part of standard ingredient for nasi lemak. It only become a standard ingredient now because many just follow. Peanuts and anchovies were not served on nasi lemak in Penang years ago, and I love my nasi lemak that way, without anything crunchy such as peanuts and anchovies. Now when I order nasi lemak I have to specially request them not to add any peanuts and anchovies on the plate.

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens 2 года назад +2

      Sadly you kind of stand alone Judy, every reference I can find says it is served with both? And to be honest, you are hard pressed to find it sold without either. So while you may say it's not traditional, you stand a better chance of removing pasta from the Italian diet than Peanuts and Anchovies from Malaysias National Dish.. It might be safer to say, you don't like it perhaps.. Unless you have some concrete reference to say it's not part of the dish but even then, what will that change? In many ways, your own suggestion that you have to always request them "not to add" it probably sinks your own statement.. ? I appreciate your thoughts though.. Any one else want to (politely) chime in?

My personal preference is fragrance coconut rice with a side of crunchy fried chicken, spicy sambal that brings a slight sweetness(just VERY little), ikan bilis(anchovies), a soft-boiled egg, and the best part of the dish is another bowl of fish and chicken curry mixed together to bring everything together.

      the landmark is Balai Polis Komuniti Jalan Raja Bot.

      you will notice a stall with a "Nasi Lemak" at the corner and at a junction. That's not the one.The right stall is further up and you know you are on the right nasi lemak stall if it is next to a stall selling grated coconut.
      you have overwalked if you see fruit stalls on your left.
      just retrace your steps.
      its worth it, dont take my words, do try the sambal prawn
      the rice is grainy and full of coconut fragrance.

    Middle eastern food on the rise now in Kuala Lumpur because Malaysia take in a lot of refugee from middle east,,,from Syria, Yemen, Kurdish, Iran ,Iraq , Lebanon etc etc,,,you even can find Rohingya food here ,,,some of them became rich selling food,,,in Ramadan bazaar they make millions of ringgit selling middle eastern rice,infact they don't want to go back home to their own country anymore,,,
    Stay safe and stay happy 🇲🇾😁

    As malaysian. Wanjo nasi lemak is not the best but the way they serve, hygiene, effectiveness is perfect. Thats what attract people to eat there. Coconut rice, fried chicken and everything is good but the only problem is the sambal taste a little bit off to me not so yummy. Once you find the best sambal & the best coconut rice, that is the perfect nasi lemak.
    By the way. You dont need to raise your elbow when eating nasi with bare hand 😃

    eating Baklava in KL is a bit like eating Nasi Lemak in Brazil or Bolivia.. be fare to the Lady.. they are probably just starting out.. i'm sure things will improved once she has excess to proper middle eastern ingredients once it takes hold and the competitions really gets going.. i've seen sausages now being malayanised.. they starting to put chillies and lemongrass in them.. as before it was never part of Malays cuisines.. as for the long que's for the Baklava.. Malaysian are still new to real Middle eastern sweet pastries cuisines.. things will improved.. but i believe there's a middle eastern patisseries somewhere in KL.. in fact there's one in the pavilion posh mall..

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens 2 года назад +6

      Thank you for your well intentioned comment but sorry you are wrong.
      If I started to sell Nasi Lemak in Brazil, you might expect I chose that dish for a reason? not just for giggles. So I might expect the person selling Nasi Lemak to have a passion for the original food and try to recreate it, would that be fair to say ? I might even expect it to taste similar to Nasi Lemak.
      So when I see someone selling Baklava in KL and there is a fascinating interest and a queue even, I would hope that seller has the passion to recreate a credible dish.. After all, if you are passionate? you would want your audience to experience Baklava.. This was about as far from Baklava as I have ever tasted and I have had great Baklava in Mexico, Scotland, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, the USA to name a few..
      So No! I choose not to give someone a pass, when I suspect they are just milking money out of the public, because a food is in fashion, while making no effort to study their craft. If I were to make Baklava here in KL for the Malaysian public, you can be sure it would at least make an attempt to transport the eater through a gastronomical journey. In truth, this tasted like a piece of stale cake.. If the people in that queue said mmmmm! they were doing it out of conforming habit not involuntary surprise..
      It's a very poor and defeatist attitude to say eating Baklava in KL is like eating Nasi Lemak in Brazil. It's as if you are in some way insinuate that, why would one expect either to be good? If I take the ingredients for Nasi Lemak and cook it in a far off land, it will taste as awesome there as it does here, unless I truly haven't a clue what I'm doing, which is the case here, I suspect..
      I should add, you talk as if the young lady is the producer? I suspect she has very little to do with that process. and as for access to ingredients, there is nothing in a good Baklava that is not readily available in the shops here.
      Excuse my reply but you will find I am too passionate and knowledgeable about my food to let that slide..

    • @alihms
      @alihms 2 года назад +1

      I do agree with Steve. If one wants to make a baklava, do it properly, do it with passion.
      But.. there is always a but.
      Sellers like this won't care. They are in the business to make a living; not to go for authenticity. They don't care if the taste is butchered. So long people keep buying them, they will keep selling them. Once the trend fades away and a new one comes in, they will switch to that new food trend.
      If you notice, there are so many takoyaki sellers now, because it in trend. I bet in another 3-4 years, you can hardly find one any longer. These same sellers will then sell a Brazilian or a Romanian dish or whatever that will be popular here then.
