    So many people have told me that Village Park Restaurant serves the best Nasi Lemak in Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 I had to go and try it for myself. Will it live up to expectations and will the early morning visit be worthwhile?

    For the ayam goreng berempah, no batter is used. The crispy part are the spices that were use to marinate the chicken. Usually people use lemongrass, coriander (seed), cumin, fennel (seed), a little bit of curry powder, ginger, shallot, garlic, chilli powder and turmeric.

      Tbh.. love them all, the high ends and lows, each with thier own pros & cons.. but I'd always come back to the rm1/2 banana leaf parcelled ones.. (vendors, stalls & cafés) Although from miscellaneous cooks, deep insight into it.. I could feel behind the scenes scenarios of love and passion of a person trying their best to make ends meet/side income for a family.. 😢
      The only cons is it's usually served as a cold bundle.

    That looks very delicious with all the flavors as expected, and the peanuts too. Maybe try a few more places just for comparison ? ;)) it looks like the chicken has a coating of marinade then gets tossed in the deep fry. I think it stays moist by cooking it in larger pieces, then hacking it.

    Yes Steve. Belacan for chili sambal is made from shrimp paste. You need to cut a slice 1cm thick of belacan, tamarind paste, chili paste mixed and cook well in the work with little vege oil, onions, garlic with bit of salt for nice taste. You may add some sugar or brown sugar or palm sugar according to your taste. Awesome Bro!! Only in Malaysia + cucumber + egg + peanuts + bilis ...

    I like ur narrative/descriptions. “The rice has to be perfect”, “The symphony of….”
    If the rice is a little less coconuty, it might be, just might be, ….locals can get coconut flavour in many other types of food, so it may not be a strong preference of local.
    For me, if i can pay for that nasi lemak here in Spore, i will be willing to pay more than double the price

    Their fried chicken is next level. You could bread cardboard with that marinade/crust and it would taste great. I could just go there for that. Off the hook. 10/10. I think the egg is plain boiled along with cucumbers almost as a palate cleanser or to balance the fattiness and spiciness of the dish. If not it’s just too cloy. Usually I dislike cucumbers due to its lack of flavour but in nasi lemak it’s essential to offset the oil in the chicken and sambal and the richness in rice.

    Steve don't you think the potion is a bit small.. but having said that its very well presented with a banana leaf lining to give it that touch of traditional aesthetic.. as for the sambal.. all good traditional Malay sambal should have Belacan ( shrimp paste ) as a foundations in the Sambal paste.. but i prefer the Siamese style sambal made with fish sauce as a substitute to Belacan.. but you only find these in the north.. i.e. in Penang and Kedah and in all the southern Thai Malay state.. but i also heard there's a really good posh breakfast place in Bangsar.. ( not sure if its still there ) worth checking that out..

    Steve, I did not realise you have a mohican hair do
    Just joking, I have less hair than you lol
    That nasi lemak looked scrumptious
    If too much coconut milk, it will not be absorbed by the rice, it will stick to the outside of the rice & make the rice goes off quicker
    🤣🤣🤣

    This is definitely not as hyped just like the famous hyped cendol in Penang. This is tasty but just average or below average nasi lemak. A Simple packet of authentic real Kampung nasi lemak from any mak cik is pure heaven. If you take a drive down any old road around Malaysia you will find it. This is marketing that's all.

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  2 года назад

      Yes, I was going to say our Malaccan nasik lemak must have kangkung (morning glory), ikan bilis and peanuts. In Singapore their nasi lemak have none of the three but replaced by otak otak, and fish cake and fried ikan kuning, I stopped eating their nasi lemak.
