There is a version of “Bridge” floating around RUclips with James Griffin singing and Larry Knechtel (original pianist) playing the piano. Production quality is terrible but they both nail it…
I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel & had a lot of their records. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. You won't find a bad song. They have had so many hits such as "Sound Of Silence", "The Boxer", "Mrs. Robinson", "Scarborough Fair", "At The Zoo", "Cecilia", "America", "I Am A Rock", "Homeward Bound", "El Condor Pasa", "The 59th Street Bridge Song" etc. Paul Simon went on to have a huge solo career with lots of great songs.
Well that makes sense : Our Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST is Jewish too - it's kind of funny , nobody ever thinks of it this way , but while not all Jews are Christians , all Christians are Jews ❤✝️❤✡️❤
I love your comparison to the gospel. People interpret this song differently, but to me it's a representation of the Holy Spirit speaking to an elderly homeless woman living on the street.(the silver girl). He (the Comforter) is a friend who dries her tears and comforts her. He is with her through her pain. In the last verse she's dying. He tells her that it's her time to shine and all her dreams are on their way, and that He's sailing right behind (escorting her to Heaven). That's my interpretation. Beautiful reaction. I loved it.
To me she is the Statue (Goddess) of Liberty - "sailing" (away?) on her lonely island with her torch held high in hand - symbolising the dreams of many people in the US. ( these were troubled times in the US with the civil rights movement, political assassinations and the Vietnam War still raging ). "Sail on silver girl (!) Sail on by Your time has come to shine (!) All your dreams (!) are on their way See how they shine (!) Oh, if you need a friend I'm sailing right behind" Paul would later go on to use this metaphor in his hauntingly beautiful American Tune (1973). "And I dreamt I was flying, and high up above my eyes could clearly see The Statue of Liberty Sailing away to sea ..." It's btw. also a cheeky reference to Paul's first wife, who had just found her first grey hair - and whom he jokingly refered to as "Silver Girl" 😉
My interpretation is the opposite of yours! I see it as a parent sending their daughter into the world on her own. The parent knows there will be lonely times danger and heartache ahead but she must go forth to experience life on her own but the parent will be there in the background for support and love if she asks for it but knows to stay back and let her do life on her own. Sailing right behind being there in spirit
Written by Paul Simon (pictured in the front )and sang magnificently by Art Garfunkel (pictured behind). Bridge Over Troubled Water was nominated along with The Beatles song Let It Be for 'Best Vocal by a Duo, Group or Chorus" in 1970. Both were beaten out by The Carpenters song Close To You. Another wonderful reaction by our beautiful OGO. You know I love it when you sing along!!! Take care Luv. Your pal, RNB
Paul Simon is a lyrical and melodic genius Art Garfunkel sing a like an angel. They knew each other as little boys. They are both Jewish and from Queens New York. Originally known as Tom and Jerry when they were teenagers. I suggest America, The Boxer, Kathy's song. For Emily Wherever She May be. Sounds of Silence is also a lyrical masterpiece.
And to think that this musical open-heart surgery is just the opener of the album, which goes on from there emotionally, and is one of the finest hours of American popular music ever recorded. It’s a masterpiece, from the “bridge”, to the gentle finale. Don’t miss it.
Paul Simon is the songwriter of the duo and, in many of their songs, he sings lead. But in this one, Art Garfunkel sang lead. Art also sings lead in one of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel songs, "Kathy's Song" which has some of the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard.
Agree with everything you said....a gorgeous, timeless song - that we would, as a society, take care of not only our friends, but of those in the shadows of life as well....
It’s my first time watching your reaction and I must say it was a pleasant experience. You let us listen with only a coupe stoppages. I will continue to follow you on your wonderful journey I was fortunate to have seen these and many other iconic bands and artists. Live. What memories. Peace
The song is written by Paul Simon for Art Garfunkel to sing as a solo, only adding a few moments in which he blended his voice with Arts...a very beautiful reaction by you.
And it was written in the middle of their breakup as a group, as a gift from Simon to Garfunkel. Garfunkel was the one that insisted on the third verse with Simon singing as well. Even in the middle of a painful breakup, they still cared for each other.
What a lovely and authentic reaction, my friend. It IS an amazing song... and evokes for many the spirit of the Lord, Who is the Friend above all friends, and Savior... our bridge over the troubled waters of life. Art Garfunkel, the taller one on the album cover, is the lead singer with that pure, angelic voice. Paul Simon, in the foreground of the picture is the legendary songwriter and did the background vocals. The combination made magic!
This always reminds me as a kid, going down a social club with my family and this was playing on the jukebox while i played donkey kong on the sitdown videogame.
Art Garfunkel's voice is heavenly! Makes me cry. It does remind me of what Jesus is saying to us. ❤️❤️❤️ My other favorite song from them is "The Boxer". Please react to the original studio version from the album. It's so much better than the live version (even though their live songs are good).

Elvis’ version was good. Theirs much better. Unlike the song “My Way” written by Paul Anka for Frank Sinatra. Although Sinatra’s version was good, Elvis’ version was much better .
Why is that ironic? Yeshua is Jewish. He's the lion of the tribe of Judah. All the early disciples were Jewish. Or Hebrew. The gospel itself is Jewish. You can't find a more Jewish book than the gospel of Matthew. There's no irony.
@@THEPATRIOT1000 what's that got to do with anything? Do gentiles? Don't ask me dumb questions. The world hates Jesus. Absolutely hates him. Get your silly head out of the mud and don't pretend like you are superior or something. You're not.
Thanks!❤
Thank you so much.
I really appreciate it.
There is no other version of this as good. Not Elvis. Not their live versions. Not anyone else who did it. THIS record is perfection.
Amen!

Very true
Totally agree.
Easily one of the greatest popular music albums of the 20th Century. I can’t imagine my childhood growing up in the ‘70s without it.
🥇🥇🥇
You can cover it all you like, nothing will compare to this original masterpiece ✌
I've loved Simon & Garfunkle for 60 years. This is the most beautiful song ever. ❤
This won All the major Grammy Awards.
It’s an absolute masterpiece…

They and ABBA are the only artists I've yet to find a bad song from.
The whole best of album honestly! I know the order by heart
They are the original artist and they had the best version.
Yes, Art Garfunkle has the voice of an angel. Simon and Garfunkle is in the class of music that is timeless.
Yes, it most certainly it is. You just listen to the one of those beautiful songs ever written!❤
Beautiful song, and very beautiful host.

Such a timely song ❤️☮️💕✌️
Very nice, love this song. I remember hearing it when it was first released still love it after all these years.
It's emotional...damn
Thank you for listening and enjoying the music I grew up with!
This song is so iconic and one of the best ever written. I love Paul's songwriting like my mother does. She grew up listening to them.
Believe, they are the greatest duo on planet earth. Art’s vocals is undoubtedly the best, incomparable as to smoothness , so pure and angelic.
This song is a modern hymnal, beautifully written and beautifully performed.
Paul Simon, master lyric master.

Yes, I have heard this be called the Jesus song by quite a few people...
I can highly recommend the version sung at New York Central Park
Yes, a Jesus song for those who know Him.
You're the first person I think I've heard who made the connection I have always done between the message of this song and that which came from Jesus.

Garfunkel the one with the curly hair singed the song.
Thanks 👍
