In Finland we do not have a culture of smalltalk. If you ask someone "how are you", in Finland you are expected to give an honest answer to that. If you don't really care, you just say "hi" and "goodbye", without questions. That is respect when you only ask what you really want to hear. Silence is perfectly fine, if you don't feel like talking. We Finns will get invested, if you talk to us, so respect that dedication.
Ummmkay
more true in the deep south USA... How are you is question there.... not so much in the north
No one cares. Islam will swallow you too. Have more kids.
I AGREE MADDY!!! Such a prophetic song, in it’s day, no one could imagine what it would by like today, back then😂
Right!!
I agree. It was, is and will always be pure magic. No matter who covers this classic song.
🌸
Anyone that covers this , should be be in jail, it is theirs, and should remain so, go write your own classic !! I don't want to hear someone ruin ' losing my religion ' , and I know REM fans would agree, there are certain songs that should be one offs, this is one.
Correct, the original is better.
Just love when youngins finally hear our music 🎶
💖
It’s not ‘our music’ it is ‘music.’
95% any decades ‘music’ is just random noise, monkeys hitting dust bin lids with broken bones, random words. I can rhyme. I do it all the time, it’s not skill. It makes me ill.
@@marksaunderson3042 speak for yourself 😆
@marksaunderson3042. Here we go 🙄 another "enlightened one."
And find out they love it.
The classic is the best and i have heard both. This song crosses the decades because you are right and people text but do not speak. i am good dealing with doctors and helping my 80 year old neighbor. I am also listening to you and great classics .Simon and Garfunkel are were a great duo "The Boxer" and "Bridge over Troubled Waters" are favorites. So thank you for this classic and have a great day..
Simon & Garfunkel were (and still are) such a gift to the world. If you like acoustic, please check out Band-Maid's many acoustic songs, like Catharsis from their Christmas concert. Thx, Maddy!
Oh nice!!
You can never have too much Band Maid 💕 🧹
@@MusicMike747 I've listened to so much Band-Maid over the past nine years that I bet it's more than all the other band I've listened to during that time, combined! Seriously.🤘😂
You have great musical taste! Paul Simon wrote this fantastic song. One of the greatest songs ever Yes, one of the greatest duos ever. So are the Righteous Brothers, have you reacted to any of their great songs? Best of success on yr channel
Such a powerhouse of a tune❤ Garfunkel's voice is amazing🔥
Their music we used at my high school graduation ! How am i ? Stage 4 cancer , but fighting !
Great reaction !
Blessings be with you !
Sending hugs, warrior 🤗💖💖💖
Blessings and Heavanly winged angels will greet you….
Keep up the fight, brother. God bless.
🙏
I'm really surprised that you enjoyed the original versus Disturbs version. Classic songs seem to never die. You are proof in the pudding. Thank you Maddy.
🤗🤗🤗 yes I like the realness of this one!
The original is far, far superior!
Do you think they ever sing that and at the end they're like "holy shit we were good." Like obviously they know the songs, they've sung together for decades... but still, they had a huge stage here, and totally nailed it. They have to feel it to their bones that they totally nailed it in front of a bigass audience.
I can't imagine my life without their music. My mom played them in the home and I loved them immediately as a child. I was a teenager when they did their absolutely amazing reunion concert in Central Park where hundreds of thousands showed up. Garfunkel in Bridge Over Troubled Water might be one of the best vocals ever recorded. And Simon's lyrics are poetry. I miss artistry like this.
Oh wow!! They definitely are!
Would you say 10000 people maybe more?
@@jsamuelsen It’s funny to hear the audience laugh at that line. I’ve actually heard estimates of the crowd size ranging from 400,000 to a million people. Hard to tell when it was a free concert in Central Park.
Legendary artist for sure, great song! Don't stop smiling it brightens my day .may you have a blessed day .❤😊😊
🤗💖🤗
You are a BRILLIANT, BEAUTIFUL young woman, and you just proved it. I don't see what anyone sees in the Disturbed version, other than it's a tribute to this one. This has always been a magical song, and the Disturbed version, to me, just can't hold a candle to it. Accept for the words, I feel it's a completely different song and not even in the same class as this one.
I agree it's better than the painful disturbed version. Try the PTX version.
Yesss
Darlin', it is a beautiful day that the Lord has made, and I am glad in it. One of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed. One of the most Iconic songs of my generation. I am really happy that you enjoyed it so much, like I have for so many years.
I too prefer this original, by far! Thanks, Maddy.
🤗💖
Definitely check out their, Concert in Central Park, not only is the concert something incredibly special, but their voices were at their peak. While I recommend the whole concert, Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Sound of Silence are major highlights.
Nice!
Simon & Garfunkel are the greats! Truly they are the original and much better. But you have to do Pentatonix version. It's amazing for a acapella group! And you'll be blown away!
Oooh
Yes, I agree. Pentatonix will blow your mind ❤❤
Great reaction Maddy! They were a truly amazing singing duo! As a youngster, I had many of their LPs and played each one so many times, I wore deep grooves into the record.
Love it!!
I agree to me there is no comparison. They are the creators and it is their music and no one does it better.
No one can beat the original version. It is such a classic song that will continue to awe people. As mentioned in the comments, you should check out the album version. It's a little bit different but more powerful than this live version. You are one of a few that really like the older version versus the Disturbed version. As always keep up the good work girl.
I consider this to be one of the greatest songs ever written and Paul Simon who wrote this song did it twice he did it with the song Sound of Silence Andy wrote another one of the best iconic songs of all-time called Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Who's Andy?
I grew up with this song, and in spite of how skillfully the Disturbed version may be, I simply couldn't recognize it or relate to it. This is a foreboding song, but not despondent. The Disturbed version was just way too dark. The original, and the live version performed here is soooooo much better. It's as if it's a warning, which holds out hope, rather than a conclusive statement of doom. A great reaction by Ms. MaddyReactions, no hate, only kudos and gratitude from me--she nailed it.
💖💖💖
EXACTLY! This song gives a glimmer of hope. You can sense a glimmer in the slightly higher pitch when they end certain lines. It makes me want to listen.
With the Disturbed version, all hope is lost. There's nothing to pull me in. It's all doom and gloom and sadness.
It's True the creators of this Epic Work is absolutely amazing & the Harmonies
The Difference between Simon & Garfunkel's version has way more Harmonies versus Disturbs Raw power & Grit !!! However I do enjoy both Versions & it Came With Paul Simons Blessings 😊
I like this one more too
I prefer this version myself, but then I grew up during this era.
Original is clearly better.
However, compare Simon and Garfunkel's "Hazy Shade of Winter with the Bangles cover...
Oh really?
I feel it sounded great!
@@MaddyReactions I feel the original "The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel' is better than the cover by Disturbed.
How am I? Well that is a loaded question lol 😆. I’m at the age where all my athletic injuries and pushing past the pain to compete, with myself or others, has caught up to me. But pushing past obstacles is what I truly know.
Having grown up with this song, and Simon and Garfunkel generally, this is the way to really listen to the song for me. Yes there are amazing covers by groups like Disturbed and Pentatonix that are great but for me, this is it.
Simon and Garfunkel greatly influenced my song writing. For my high school graduation I sang Bridge Over Troubled Water for my classmates.
A song I highly recommend of them is The Boxer. They were true storytellers in all their music.
I truly wish you a bright and wonderful day.
💖💖💖
🎼🎼🎸🔥🎸🎼🎼 .... hey Maddy. I am very pleased to see you went back to the original artists. Simon & Garfunkel express things in a magical way. You are right back in my karaoke file .. actually I play this one on the keyboards with my bandmates. I say "Wow !" to this version every time I watch it .. which is in the hundreds of times by now. The harmonies get under your skin , in a good way. Thanks for taking the time to react to the creators of this timeless piece. Very, very, very good minutes of my day. 🎼🎈💢🎈🎼
So awesome
What a beautiful, heartfelt reaction, Maddy. ❤
And truth be told, I've actually had an epic day. Life has simply been phenomenal lately -- which is a joy to say as a 71-year-old, solo male.
Thanks for sincerely asking. 🥰
🤍🤍🤍
Great reaction..
Paul Simon is a poet.!!!
Art Garfunkel has a TREMENDOUS voice...
Best American songwriters..
I have:
#1 Bob Dylan
#2 Paul Simon
#3,#4,#5..who cares...!!!
I have..
🤩 you took the Wayback Machine and listened to the original!
Live. No autotune. All talent.
You like acoustic? Remember your “Puzzle” reaction from Band Maid?
“Puzzle,” 2018 Live at Zepp Tokyo
Kanami and Saiki alone. An emotional experience
Niceee
Caught them in chicago back in that era - simply awesome & have always been a favorite all my long life.
Want to see their great harmony, look up a you-tube with S&G performing Scarborough Fair w/ Andy Williams from 1967 on the Andy William Show.
Three great voices, one acoustic guitar and all around one microphone. Doesn't get much better. 😉
This performance was 45 years after the original release in 1964. How good are you now(or will be) at something you created 45 years in the past?
Simon & Garfunkel are a beautiful change from my usual rock - it puts you in such a relaxed state.
Check out them doing "Scarborough Fair" with Andy Williams on his show in 1968: ruclips.net/video/MOHOLaV6U4Q/видео.html
More:"The Boxer", "The 59th Street Bridge Song", "America", "Homeward Bound"(live from GH album).
I'm sure you've heard "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (one of the best songs of all time).
Awesome

You should check out their Concert from Central Park, in 1981. Purely acoustic for this song. They were about to turn 40 then. The whole concert was fantastic.
Paul Simon is underrated as a guitarist. It may be too deep of a track for a reaction but if you like acoustic guitar music, check out his song, "Anji". It is a acoustic guitar solo and it's amazing. It's hard to believe that it is one guitar as there are like three things going on at once. I've been playing guitar for 50 years and have been meaning to try to learn to play it but have been procrastinating on it for about 45 years.😅
Oh nice!
I grew up listening to S&G but I’ve come to appreciate Paul’s guitar work much more since I’ve been watching these reaction videos. We were so spoiled back then! The standards were so high that we didn’t realize just how good the successful musicians were. But Paul on the acoustic guitar . . . That is special.
This is one of those tunes that stays with you. The Disturbed version is awesome, but the purity of the original lifts it way above.
I love this song. I must have played this song a hundred times. Thank you for playing it. Again, I am so glad that the younger generation is experiencing the music that their parents love❤
So awesome
For real, Maddy, I am doing well today, thanks for asking! Better, after seeing a couple of your reactions so thank you for that!!
Hugs 🤍
As a team they've made so many fantastic songs together. I hope you get a chance to Is enjoy so many other songs. You won't regret it. Thank you😊
Me too!
Paul Simon's solo career is just as worthy of your attention. He's a standout performer and songwriter, but really he's a poet.
Disturbed version is to angry. Never liked it. THhs is more thought provoking and peaceful. I was 17 when it came out. Thanks for reviewing it. Peace & Love, Maddy.
This song stands the test of time, Simon and Garfunkel are the GOAT!
Definitely!!!
the version of Central Park in '85 make me almost cry every time.
Las versiones originales siempre las mejores. Una maravilla de esta legendaria pareja de artistas. Gracias por tu reacción, preciosa.
99% of the time, the original is always better and my day has been fine😉
I'm glad you prefer this one!!!
I love it! I
Yal. I felt it in the beginning
Do yourself a favor and listen to the studio version, wow 45 years ago! Also the studio version of Bridge over troubled water...can't be beaten, even live it's not the same though still good. Such a gorgeous song. ❤
🤍
Let them hate then,Simon and Garfunkel are awesome, and I grew up on classic rock 🥰
Agreed
@@MaddyReactions like I said I grew up on classic rock Aerosmith,Boston,Guns and Rose's,Journey,REO Speedwagon,ELO,the list go's on....but Simon and Garfunkel have pur talent,I even like the Carpenters,LOL 🤔
Great reaction! I had to subscribe. Wonderful to see someone who gets the music from when I was young. Look forward to watching more.
🤍🤍🤍
I'm not religious, but what ever higher being or evolutional twist gave mankind the ability to create and enjoy music, THANKS. This is one of the songs that bring me to tears every time, just because it's so beautiful.
And yes, Disturbed did a good job with the cover-version, but performances by Simon & Garfunkel are unmatched.
Fantastic performance, singing a fantastic song...
Agreed
This song made me always emotional, I never tired of it, I saw your video twenty times already, thanks for share Maddy@@MaddyReactions
You should watch the movie "The Graduate." Besides being an excellent movie, it's entire soundtrack is Simon & Garfunkel. Doesn't get better than that.
Originally The Sounds of Silence, was on their first album in 1964. It was originally recorded without drums, as in this video, the album did not do well and forced the pair to disband. Though the album failed, the song got airtime and their producer remixed it and overdubbed drums and electric guitars and didn't let the duo know until after it was released. The song hit #1 in 1966, leading them to reunite and work on their second album.
I prefer the original acoustic version, without percussion, but both are amazing. I also like the versions by Disturbed and Pentatonix, both awesome.
Stunning! While I prefer this version as well, Disturbed’s version made me think about the song differently.
I am with you on this but I may be prejudice because I was here when it was first released. Quite young then but I've been a fan of Simon&Garfunkel from the start. I think Disturbs version fits today and I think highly of it too. Many have covered this song and I would say Disturbs take is close to it. I like you love the simply acoustic take of S&G more. Thanks for you lovely reactions to not just this but many of the songs I grew up to and with. Your a delightful person and most assured a beautiful soul. I covered about a half dozen of your reactions through this sleepless night and felt the true emotion of hearing them again as if it were the first time. You have a new sub here and this ol heart of mine was touched! All the best!!!
You should listen to the studio version. The Instrumentals are amazing. Way Fuller sound. Peace ✌️
Oooh
hi i survived my last mental crash ..still climbing back up out of that hole but interaction with the world outside my cave is part of how i have learned to survive,, it helps thanks for tolerating me..
very few live versions of anything are better mostly because of the inability to control the sound as well as in the studio and in my opinion this was done more for nostalgic purposes than musical as we get older we like to see some things survive..
i had to re listen to disturbed's version again to recall my view and luckily found your vid for that .. when i originally heard disturbed version i had great hopes for it and though it's not a bad version i find that the potential for there version was never reached i feel that they should have built the song up more at the end and possibly brought in another vocal possibly to achieve that without getting too far away from the original message since it was a 2 vocal song to begin with ,, thank you
Amazing! Keep climbing, friend! 🌸💖
I discovered my parents’ Simon and Garfunkel records when I was a teenager in the 90s and got way into them and never stopped listening to them. One of my all-time favorites for sure.
Those two and The Beatles were just great at writing music, harmonies, melodies, lyrics.
Maddy,do you know Simon & Garfunkel song Bridge Over Troubled Water? One of their finnest song👌
And the Beatles reccomendation would be She's Leaving Home for the start,i do not know if you are familiar with them.Anyway, have a nice day✌️
💖💖💖
My wife has the gift of being able to talk to anybody for as long as they care to talk and genuinely care about what they are saying.
People seem to sense that and total strangers tell her their life's stories whenever we are out in public.
🩷
This song became famous in Europe by the movie : The graduate. Nobody knows the movie any more; but we all still know the song. So let's name it : a monument.
Good Morning Maddy... Really love your page, and all the classics you have commented on. This song here,
" Sound Of Silence." I have heard thousands of times off the Simon and Garfunkel's ( Greatest Hits. ) Album from back in the day. But I don't ever remember hearing this version, with Paul Simon opening up on guitar. 😮😍... I thought it was awesome. 😉 Thank you for reacting to this version of an already classic performance by these two.
I Love your page and all your comments, keep em coming. 👍
If Maddy would like some performances better than the original, I suggest "Stone Cold," "Never Enough," and "Rise Up," by Morissette
And if Maddy likes harmonies - Try Home Free's. "Man of Constant Sorrow," "Ring of Fire," -- Almost any of their songs.
💖💖💖
At his bar mitzvah in 1954, Garfunkel performed as a cantor, singing over four hours of his repertoire for his family.
This is how I think of the 3 versions I like the most.
Simon and Garfunkels original Sound of Silence, of course, is the ultimate rendition...
It is a warning about Capitalism and Corporate take over of the government. (How I read the lyrics)
Disturbed's version is how "We"... that heeded the reality of their words... feel right now... anger and frustration of the current issues we face as a country...
And Pentatonix version is the hope that the younger generation have lived the Previous versions and will actually activate to change the Corrupt system.
Over thanking? NOT IMHO... its the reality of the quagmire of Crony Corporate Capitalism.
Ooooh wow
Thank you for your wonderful reaction video to 'two old guys' singing 'The Sound of Silence' - Simon and Garfunkel. I just got off of my shift as cashier in a supermarket ... I always greet the next person in line with a warm and concerned "How's your morning going?" If he/she/they reply with some honest-sounding quip ... I give back with what's happened to me. I'm 72 by the way. You really got the intrinsic meaning of Simon's lyrics. See ya on your next reaction.
Hugs 🤗🤗🤗 thanks for caring, and hope your day is ACTUALLY “good” 🌸💖
I was fortunate to see them September 1981 in Central Park. I was 19. Your reactions are great 👍
In the late 60s/early 70s, when I was stationed at Reese Air Force Base, this was my go-to song that I'd sing, out loud, while riding my BMW motorcycle back from Lubbock, TX to the base. There was nothing else on that 10 mile stretch of highway except cotton fields and a wide open, starry sky. Disturb's cover was aptly named. I was so disturbed after the first sentence that I couldn't watch it any further. That guy just creeped me out.
Oh wow!
"How are you doing?" "Good". "Everybody asks how your day is...". I've been thinking about that all week. I've decided I might sing them the chorus to John Denver's "Some Days Are Diamond Some Days Are Stone". (Weird, right?) I'm sure they will laugh in my face but maybe one person will get it.
"Some days are diamonds
Some days are stone
Sometimes these hard times
Won't leave me alone
Sometimes the cold wind
Blows a chill in my bones
Some days are diamonds
Some days are stone"

What makes this song so incredibly awesome is it's simplicity...
Simon & Garfunkel are amazing. Paul Simon went on to more solo acclaim but I really love the song 'All I Know' by Garfunkel. Give it a listen if you've never heard it before.😊
Oooh
When Simon and Garfunkel came out with this (and many other songs) it spoke to a generation. It meant something. They were as powerful as Dylan in Paul's writings and we savored every moment. 1000 years from now people will be listening to the original. I'm not sure about Disturbed's version (though I think it was great too).
Definitely
I would not call them as powerful as Bob Dylan. Gross overstatement.
The Boxer by Simon & Garfunkel...❤
Great start for the day
Thanks Maddy
You're so welcome!
I remember this song, it runs so deep, a time when my mother had met a very bad man, drugs, drink and serious violence ensued, both toward my mother and the three of us kids(I was 10). I will never forget having to help the nurse stitch my mums head together. Crazy times, scarring times. Last time I saw this man in my home, two police officers grabbed him to the floor after he had threatened my mum with an axe. I saw him years later, he was frail and old, I wanted to stop my car and beat him, but I stopped myself. Apologies Maddie your reactions are always lovely , love to you both from UK
It’s been a very long time since I’ve listened to this, but it reminds me of how good they really were!
Great reaction 🌹
Who could possibly prefer the Disturbed version over this?
You need to check out their concert in Central Park. My favorite.
Great heartfelt reaction. Simon & Garfunkel are one of the most important artists, you couldn’t be more right about their version being the best. Art Garfunkel has the voice of an angel. If you haven’t already done so, you should check out the original studio version of Bridge Over Troubled Water. I think you would love it.
There are 3 things that i like in this world,.. the sun, the moon, and you,..the sun for the day, the moon for the night and you forever 🤣🤣, always success for your channels Maddy ,today, tomorrow and in the future...👌👍🥂🌷
Thank you ☺️
A Cue Stick?! How many strings does a cue stick have? Art Garfunkel's cover of I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU (1975) is another great.
Nice!
Queen - Love of My Life. Wembley ''86. 223M views. Freddie singing accompanied by Brian May on acoustic guitar in front of a stadium crowd.

I also love the S&G version and acoustic music the best in a lot of songs. Though electric has its place in a good share of songs. How am I doing? Continuing to try and discover the best in this world though it can get challenging at times. That's one of the reasons I listen to music and watching channels like yours-to hear others doing their best to find and share the wonders that strike them. And how are you?
Oooh
I'm feeling good today. I am watching your video a couple weeks later. I am really enjoying your videos thank you. That's how I feel.😊😊😊😊
Wonderful!
At the oldest, yet my favourite rendition.
I'm doing well Maddy, really well. My wife of 22 yrs transitioned this past January and even tho we had a roller coaster relationship, we did love each other. I can finally say now that I'm finally moving on, that I feel I've turned that emotional corner. One of the things that brings happiness to this 69 yr old guy is when young people such as yourself find joy in the music of our past so thank you Maddy! (And thanks for asking!) How are you today?
Welcome to my childhood! Born in in 1963!
💖💖💖
of course it's the best... they wrote it!!!
Great Reaction again and i always mean it if i ask how your doing only people who care about people care Proud of you for that,
"People talking without speaking." There is communication among people without speaking -- not just small talk, but no talk. Mimes passing mimes on a sidewalk crowded.
Since you’re loving Pentatonix, I suggest also checking out their cover of this song. I love the original but also love the Ptx version.

Watch BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER from the same concert! 🙂 Bring tissues!
It was 1966, I was a 19-year-old kid 1500 miles from home watching the snow fall through a barracks window in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and hearing this song for the first time. The falling snow was the sound of silence for me. Peaceful memory.
Thank you for your service 🩷🩷🩷
Simon and Garfunkel spend a year or so in England in 1960s and wrote a song about a girl he met there. She did not stay with him for long, (Simon) and that broke his heart. I think it was Kathy's home. ruclips.net/video/ylCGvOUL938/видео.html
The "original" concert of S&G in Madison Square Garden was in 1981 - it was a benefit concert for renewing the rotten MS Garden. They had more than 500.000 visitors that evening.
Thanks Maddy, beautiful reaction 😊 I haven’t listened to S & G for a while and needed reminding how amazing they are. By the way I’m good 😂😂😂 no, I really am and also happy watching you react. See you next time 😊
