Seems like a nice man who likes making fishing lures. He is proof that you do not have to use tons of advertising to sell something that works. He is a humble fishing Hero who you never see too much about. Thank you for getting him to fish with you so people get to meet a fishing ledgend.
@a10warthog61 I get what you're saying, but there is professional fishermen out there, and honestly there is training involved. Training is practicing. Professional sports require practicing. Not everyone can be a professional athlete, not anyone can be a professional angler. You have to be good at it, so it requires skill, so does regular athletics. In college a fishing scholarship is considered an athletic scholarship. A regular Joe can't be a professional angler, you have to have skill, and be able to consistently win money in those tournaments. I believe professional angling is by all definition a sport. There's plenty of sports that there isn't a draft for. I think the closest comparison would be tennis or golf. In those respects they're identical, golf and fishing that is. You take the same path to become professionals. You start out in highschool, then you get a scholarship, or try out for your college team, then you practice and do tournaments, and when you leave college, if you're good enough you go on to professional tournaments, and if you're good enough you make a living traveling the country doing it. If you're not good enough, then you either end up teaching it, or working in the industry somehow. So my stance is this, if you don't consider fishing a sport, then you don't consider golf or tennis a sport. So then you should tell Sarina Williams, tiger woods, Roger Federer, and Kevin Van Dam that they aren't playing a sport.
Mr. Houston I don't know how much you do this or if it's a regular feature, but I think it's awesome. I could listen to men talk about their careers in fishing for as long as I could sit still. I'm fifty years old so of course I've seen you on tv for years. My buddy and I were talking about how our fishing has been influenced, by the likes of you, Roland Martin, Bill Dance, Hank Parker, and others, in ways we probably don't recall. We were both raised by dad's who fished so of course we learned a lot from them, but I mimicked my worm fishing from Bill, line watching from Roland, and you taught me how to roll cast a spinner bait. I mean straight watched your show and by the end of a mornings fishing I was dinging dock poles at will. I know I'm running on but oh well, I'm still gonna recite what I remember. You said to keep your elbow into your side, and turn your wrist like you turning a knob on a door, son of a gun if it didn't work. So thanks, I'm sure you get thanked all the time but you deserve it. You've helped a lot of people in a lot of ways. Keep making these videos with your old buddies they're stories are too good not to share.
*Overall **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I feel the Shadowfire 360 offers excellent value for those who are new to tenkara and don't want to break the bank on their first rod purchase.*
Mr Houston would you please do just a short video on how Mr Yamamoto tied that rig in detail my wife and I are trying and we cant get it. Thank You Kevin long time fan.
Kevin Carpenter it’s a hook by Gamakatsu called “Finesse Wide Gap Weedless”. Just tie your line to this hook (Gary uses a snell knot) and that’s it. Also, you can buy this hook on Gary’s website. Good luck!
Not only did I just rediscover Jimmy Houston again (I used to watch him growing up as a kid), he's even doing a video with Mr. Yamamoto. This is so awesome.
What an amazing video of two legends I feel so fortunate to have soaked in some knowledge from just this 7min video what I would give to be a fly on the wall to just listen to these two
You two are two of my all time fishing heroes, besides my Dad. I started using the Hulu Grubs in 81 on Bull Shoals Lake in Northern Arkansas and it totally switched me from a jig and pig or jig and twin tail to the grubs. And Jimmy you are one awesome fisherman and spokesperson for the sport and art of fishing. Thank you both. Peace.
Loved this vid, 2 Legends just out enjoying life and fishing. I can't even remember the year I had to watch Jimmy on Saturday mornings "Jimmy Houston Outdoors" I know exactly when I started buying Yamamoto baits from Page Lake Powell Arizona. Only way to buy them was from his warehouse by phone . This was 1986 for me. Watermelon and the Black blue flake Hula Grubs were my tourney winners and go to baits. I switched from Slugo's to Senko's almost immediately when they hit the market. Thank you for the life time of memories Jimmy and Gary as I pass down my stories to my family
Appreciate you hanging with us. Bob, all these years. 1986 was a good one for us as well. Won my second BASS Angler if the Year title that year. Have a great one!! God Bless!! jimmy
This is fantastic, Jimmy! Thank you. I do remember the hula grub from Gene Larew, it was a bait I used a lot. Of course the slug-o... wow, how awesome to hear about the history and the bic pen!
I just put up a vid with me catching a good-sized bass out of a little bridge Creek using your Jimmy Houston camo rod. Loved you since I was a kid, remember watching you with my grandpa hes passed but I appreciate the great memories I had with him thank you for the great rods also
I agree this one could have been 20 minutes longer even if they just were sitting on the dock having a sweet tea. I could listen to good life stories from legends anytime.
I don't know why pros don't use more senco worms it's a great way to catch a lot of fish and to keep it more simple. You don't need a dozen boxes full of tackle to catch fish
Terry Wilson because now their job is to convince you that you DO need all those lures. The lure companies can't make money if you aren't buying them. Plus all the cry babies who say senkos are cheating.
Yeah, slugo's worked good and 10in black power worm used to be my go to. My go to soft bait now is Strike King Shim E Stick green pumpkin chatruese swirl,or Strike King Rage Tail 4in Menace summer craw. They seem to work pretty good. And I put a little Pro Cure green bass scent on too. I'm not really a perch or trout Fisherman but sometimes even a big trout or a perch will eat those. I've even caught a turtle and 2 bull frogs off them things. Bull frogs can scream, really really loud almost like a woman screaming. Freaked me out when I was taking the hook out.
If im not mistaken , that applies to any public body of water. They are fishing (if not mistaken) on gary's own private lake. He can move the fish anywhere he pleases on his own property.
Thank you for setting me straight. Wasn't trying to tell you be what to do. In Texas all but one of our lakes are man-made, I'm 72 so my hearing isn't great. I just heard save it and we will put it in another pond. In Maryland, people have put aquarium fish in their own ponds and after flooding, those fish are now in public waters...last one was be the snake head fish? Anyway, no be hard, no foul.
All those young RUclips bass guys could learn something fron Mr. Yamamoto. You dont need to put all your body weight and yank the hookset like youre pulling in a 300lb shark.
Mr. Yamamoto out here using spinning set ups and these pro fishermen all use baitcaster and setting hooks like they catching sharks. Living legend! 💯
L . O . R well it depends on what there fishing most pros when fishing a light bait and different finesse baits lily a senko
He uses spinning reels because it’s too hard for him to use a bait caster since he’s getting old
H and M Fishing lmao that doesn’t make any sense
@@Texaspotato Baitcasters are for pussies. He knows what's up
@@TwinEagleRanch super awesome coming on here and hitting the nail on the head sir

Yamamoto is such a legend he doesn't even set the hook, the fish just hook themselves
They fish know they can’t mess with him and might as well hook themselves
As long as Gary Yamamoto baits have been around this is the first time I've actually seen him. Thanks Jimmy.
He’s a real Gentleman, John, and great friend!! May God Bless! jimmy
"Did it have a "bic" printed on it?" That was pretty funny as well as him laughing so hard at his own joke, love it
I imagine it probably did. N B. Gary is a great gentleman. Thanks. May God Bless. jimmy
Two Legends of the Sport! Awesome to see y’all fishing together!!
@a10warthog61 fishing is every bit of a sport
a10warthog61 you’re saying this but in reality I bet you’re the unathletic one you’re talking about 😂

a10warthog61 i gotta scholarship for bass fishing ?

I love when jimmi starts laughing he improves my mood
It's spelled Jimmy like me always bothes me when people misspell my name.
Bass fishing was never the same after the Senko was introduced. The original do nothing bait.
Mr. Houston I took your laugh and made it slow mo through a phone application, and it is the single most greatest thing ive ever heard
Mr Houston would you please do just a short video on how Mr Yamamoto tied that rig in detail my wife and I are trying and we cant get it.

Love hearing these stories of how fishing veterans started their biz.

I am 60 , so I want to thank you for the hope!
Mr Yamamoto is one of the best lure designers ever.
Debatable

Bic pen...It makes sense now that I think about it.

Wow, that is just so cool. I could have gained a lot of knowledge and insight sitting in that boat. God bless!

Bass fishing is a multi billion dollar industry so the pros jobs are to entice you to buy as many lures as you can.
Yep it’s not about fishing anymore it’s about selling you lures
Great video on bass history!!!
What hook is Mr. Yamamoto using?
I believe he’s using a 1/0 Owner, Offset!! Thanks. May God Bless. jimmy
I caught a ton of fish on the Slugo in the early 90s.....bring em back
Yeah, slugo's worked good and 10in black power worm used to be my go to. God bless spread his word!
Fantastic!!
love it
Uncle Danny needs to get out there and fish with you guys. Get him out of the office jimmy!!!
I wish senkos weren’t so expensive though
You just can’t beat a senko
Jimmy, I think it is or was maybe, illegal to restock another fishery from another body of water in Texas.
If im not mistaken , that applies to any public body of water.
They are fishing (if not mistaken) on gary's own private lake. He can move the fish anywhere he pleases on his own property.
Gary has multiple ponds on his own property

Everyone is fishing Texas rigs while this guy is just catching them off a nose hooked senko
All those young RUclips bass guys could learn something fron Mr. Yamamoto. You dont need to put all your body weight and yank the hookset like youre pulling in a 300lb shark.
He gave me some worms today idek who he was like he just gave them to me
Great friend and great man. Thanks. God Bless. jimmy
