@@arthurgordon6072 Yeah, there is a lot wrong about the "new" format. There was nothing really amiss with the old opening titles, but the theme music has always been incredibly annoying. So, which gets kept and which gets thrown out? Also the old set was constructed in such a way that when one team was placed on top of each other it was impossible to "see the join" to quote Eric Morecambe -- now it looks like a poorly executed low buget film special effect. And yes, to your point, I agree, I don't think the new set serves Amol at all well. And the decision to drop the cards in favour of the monitor also serves to diminish him and we lose that incredible dynamic of Paxo tossing the cards aside and always making eye contact with the teams. Still he's doing a great job and the way he talks to the losing team will I think quickly become his hallmark.
Very unusual to not only have all 8 players get one, but two starters :). Nice to see although the dominant buzzers are always fun to watch. Alas, for the losers, I don't think that score will be enough for the HSL bracket given how the series has gone - those four penalties potentially costing them so so dear :(.
Izzatdust? Gold dust, more likely. Two very good teams, but the winners are definitely a stronger lineup. Impressed with Sawh's quick buzzes, when she's sure of her answer she will just scorch it. Might bring some crucial points in the future. And they had good teamwork, assembled some of the double answers from two players' suggestions.
Agreed, he was lovable in a way I get that, but he was a bit much at times. Needlessly irritated 24/7, "let's just get on with it shall we", apparently he's got better places to be!
First off thanks again, CosmicPumpkin! The winning team seemed unbeatable early on, buzzing in quick and efficiently answering all the bonus questions correctly. They then cooled off a bit, and let their opponents back into it. The losing team was just a little slower on the buzzer, and at times were their own worst enemy. They also took way too long to confer, even when it was apparent that none of them knew the answer. That said, good effort by both teams, and my best to each individual.
I am also happy UCL won, but for no other reason that Ward looked down the lens of the camera when answering. Both creepy and bad manners. He should be addressing the quiz master.
Thanks for the upload Pumpkin! This was an exciting match! It’s pretty rare to see matches where every single person contributes. Hoping we can see King’s again, a bit unlikely but we never know haha
The university where I teach has around 60.000 students (not including other few thousands postgrad students), but then again my country has 220 million people, so I guess that doesn't feel as huge as it would feel in the UK 😊
Great match. Two comments: 1. Don't see why "telegram" wasn't acceptable. 2. As an American, I have to point out that Mackinac is pronounced "Mackinaw."
the island is pronounced mackinaw, but i think historically the strait is typically pronounced “mackinack” with the hard k sound at the end (that’s how i always heard them anyway)
I was surprised they thought The Faerie Queen was based on Henry V, and blew a question that required the answer Becky Sharp. And they don't listen -- I thought I saw one guy mouth "Sontag" to a question featuring the words "she" and "her" in the question, then they answered "Harold Bloom." Not strong on music, either, classical or pop.
the first picture round [indonesian islands and regions] seemed a bit too easy? the islands are either one of the major ones [sumatra, sulawesi/celebes] or really popular [bali for tourist reasons, mollucas for historical reasons]. ....then again i might be really biased because i live in indonesia and it's something that got drilled into our heads at grade school, so it might be bit harder for them.
Speaking as someone who's never been to Indonesia, the only ones of those I had ever heard of was Sumatra and Bali, so I don't think is that easy for non-Indonesians 😊 (But I do feel that same you do about questions on my own country 😅)
I wonder if "et cetera" would have been an acceptable alternative for "and so on" on the USW [und so weiter] question. Celebes is an acceptable alternative name for Sulawesi.
Amol frequently adds "of course" after confirming a correct response - - an unfortunate habit which makes the winner's knowledge seem less impressive, while give the impression that Arnol himself knows it all.
Have to say, Amol is a fantastic presenter and has really given the show a true lift.
He speeds up significantly during the last few minutes and I love it because it just seems like he wants everyone to do as much quizzing as possible 🥹
@@shanazucker8772 Agreed on all counts, but Paxo did do that for 25 years (and only slowed in the last couple.) But Amol is doing a wonderful job!
I just wish the set designer hadn't put him behind such a large desk and in a large chair. It really makes him look like a little boy.

@@NeilRossHistoryComedyPoetry I have to disagree on the theme music - i love it!
Loved how all 8 members were into the match. And UCL has an amazing team dynamic. The way they support each other's answers is commendable.
Well said!

Good catch!
You beautiful person you. I've got a cold, and only 3 hours sleep last night, so this is exactly what I needed to cheer myself up 😃
Very impressed with Sawh, quick confident and definitely not afraid to buzz early.WD
Potentially the most attractive contestant in the series' history too.
she is married, very common in their culture to do at a younger age
@@jodo6329 Definitely the most attractive of the last five years or so, which is the extent of my experience with the show.

everyone getting at least 2 starters is so rare

Your point taken, IzzatDost is literally: RespectFriend(of)
Amol is a much friendlier presenter than Paxman was.....Jezza used to sneer at some of the answers students gave.
particularly friendly to the Cambridge team- just checked to see where he went...
And that's why we loved him
It's so much better without Paxman.
Agreed, he was lovable in a way I get that, but he was a bit much at times. Needlessly irritated 24/7, "let's just get on with it shall we", apparently he's got better places to be!
UCL look strong!
Sawh is a boss!

Always happy to see a red brick Uni beat an Oxbridge!

Heavy London/Surrey representation there.

Leipzig on the Danube? 😅
Trust music questions to make one feel old (Joy Division).
It gets intense halfway. Thanks for uploading cosmicpumpkin
I really love the host....amazing UCL
Excellent stuff
The winner could possibly go far if they listen to the bonus question fully .
Sawh - beauty and brains indeed. Hall is brilliant
42000 students??? How does that work? It's twice the size of my town!
students are stackable
@@wesleyhopmans Sorry I don't understand, never having been to university myself.

Indonesia mentioned!!
Great match. Two comments:

The technology was the telegraph. A telegram was something sent using the telegraph.

Thank you.
King Zachariah😅 - one of the royal combination
Thanks CosmicPumpkin!
Thank you Hope Cambridge make it back. Genevieve Antwerp
Genesis or Rush?!
Thanks
It's "Drosophila", Amol. Not "Drosphilia"
"Mackinac" is actually pronounced "Mackinaw." Not something a non-Michigander would likely know.

I was shocked that as a chemist I had forgotten all about these journals and was at a complete loss. Definitely getting old and losing brain cells...

I got RAE Spanish question
Sometimes I'm convinced that students come to the show just to make it hard for Roger Tilling
Every match seems to have a question on Hinduism…

Celebes is an acceptable alternative name for Sulawesi.
I see they don't know their prog bands. Genesis & Rush? Oof.
Hall is so cute hahahaha
How don't you know Bizet? Thats one of the most popular pieces of classical music.
She did know it, just seemed to misremember that Bizet had been a correct answer to an earlier question.
Sawh is simply gorgeous 😍
This is so weird! The presenter's changed and no paper cards, that box looks so bad!
It’s ironic that a place called King’s College, founded by Henry VI, has “a reputation for republicanism.”
So what if the alumni is a cricketer ??? Sport ?? What's that got to do with education??
It doesn't matter if it's Manet or Monet, it's money
where is Paxman?
Retired
If he is smart on one of those Indonesian islands
I got Uruguay
I'm glad that my alma mater did so well
