      What is the wonder of science? I think atoms and life evolving everywhere in the universe in galaxies and solar systems with biological compounds evolving into complex life such as humans. The elements of life are present everywhere in the universe so the universe must the littered with life everywhere. We’ve already discovered planets with life and some humans have travelled there.

    Some find the thought that there will never be an end to the questions disturbing, so they come to these "answers" given to them by a book. I find the idea of infinite questions endlessly interesting and enthralling, for there would always something to learn or discover! Unending questions also means unending answers!

    • @light819
      @light819 9 лет назад +2

      kelly wilson whitehead science is what we can see and religion is what we believe don't try to say science is superior to religion, it isn't if you consider we are right for a moment you will see that from our perspective an unimaginably powerful being created the universe and because of that all science is simply us cataloging the world already created. Science and religion are not separate scientists simply seem to jump to conclusions on what can be, at best nothing but barely educated guesses. This world has no guide to tell anyone what is what all we do is look and try to make an educated guess based on what we see and observe.
      At a base level science has no side it is just a field of people trying to learn more about the world in the only way they can just because the majority of the scientific community chooses to say the world was made in the big bang and assuming carbon dating is accurate (we can't accurately predict half-lives stable decline over such an unfathomably large time period) this is exactly what always happens, people latch into an idea they like the sound of and then start seeing what they want to see in their work. Now I doubt I changed anyone's mind after all we are all pretty hard headed when it comes to what we as a species believe in. But I simply wanted to try to convey that one perspective is almost never entirely accurate and your animosity towards religion is completely uncalled for I believe we have the right to make our own choices so do what you want but try to be a bit more civil if you could after all how is progress ever made when no one is civil and everyone is yelling. progress is made when people calmly talk out their differences and agree to disagree

    • @callo3
      @callo3 9 лет назад +10

      light819 No scientist believes Earth was made in the big bang. They know the approximate age of the universe based on the speed of light and how far we can see. The Earth and the sun are nowhere near as old as the universe itself... The big mystery is that of all the species on Earth, humans have developed to a point where they are capable of understanding the universe and how it works, and yet there are those that are so afraid of not knowing the answers that they create an all powerful deity to put their minds at ease. Because for some, the immensity that is the universe is difficult to understand. How tiny and insignificant Earth is on the galactic scale, let alone the universal scale. And then what is beyond the edges of our universe? Nothing? Another universe or universes? People fear what they cannot understand. Death is one of those things. That's why humans have created things like an afterlife and reincarnation. Because the thought that at some point they will no longer be here, that there is an end, frightens them to their very core. But everything dies eventually. If it weren't for that fact, you and I would not have been able to have this argument right here and now on RUclips. Just because there is an end to life does not mean that life is meaningless. The very fact that there IS an end gives all the meaning humanity needs to their lives. It drives them to continue advancing themselves, bettering themselves. It is probably one of the biggest drivers of their curiosity. That drives them to understand the universe around them. A human life is not even a blip in the cosmic timeline. Yet because of this, humanity is capable of achieving so much if they could just stop being dicks to one another for 5 minutes... When it comes to the why, there may never be an answer that humanity likes. It may be too simple for their complex thought processes to accept or that there might just not be answer. Like Neil said, 'As I galaxy-gaze through time upon their diversity of colors, shapes, sizes, brightnesses, and structural detail, the boundary between knowledge and ignorance calls to me. When I reach for the edge of the universe, I do it knowing that along some paths of cosmic discovery, there are times when, at least for now, one must be content to love the questions themselves.'

    Even if this is it! Even if this is peak of secular experience, and this period is the ultima of human knowledge, it will have all be worth it. If you could show this video to Galileo, or told Newton, or any one of the other of the great scientific minds, who spend their lives, sowing the fruits that we reap today, even the most basic things we know today, they would have been moved to tears, as I am.
    I know most people in the world will never feel what i feel, listening to this song, and learning about the universe, and it doesn't matter. To the end of my days, I will feel privileged, to have walked in the footsteps of giants, and I hope that one day, I will have inspired a fraction of the people I know Neil, Bill, Brian, Carl and all the others have inspired. To look back and marvel at the greatness of those who came before us, and hopefully use their hard earned knowledge, and answer some of the questions they left us.
    I pray, being none-religious, that one day, we'll have a secular society. Where we won't focus on how to exploit one another, but where we represent each other, and our common interests in this world. Where we focus on learning everything we can about the world we live in, and want to further the knowledge we have of it, instead of denying it. Where we strive towards learning, not for profit or pride, but for curiosity and exploration.
    Such a world might never come to be, and thats okay. Even if todays representatives of reality is the best we will ever have, every step since our ancesters made the first jewel, or the first spear head, will have been all worth it. Everyone us today, live in a world so unbelievable, that even if this it, we have achieved more (and maybe enough), then any other species ever have, and as far as we know, ever will.
    I hope we go further, and I hope this world is but the first page of many in our golden history. But even if isn't, having had the privilege to exist in the time that I have, is more the enough.
    Marry Christmas, and happy new year.

      Brooke Blake We can't stop it because we all have an independent mind which thinks different than anybody else. The only fighting today is suppressing the people that doesnt't think about human liberties (but of course there's probably fights that doesn't promote human liberties)
      What we could do is create an international community that protects scientists and give education for everyone. It would collect an amount of money to every countries and give food + shelter. I personally think that would be a good move.

    • @Jenkkimie

      I am not so sure Loi Duchesne, violence all over the world has been gradually decreasing in total. Yes it still happens daily but we live in the safest times ever recorded to history of mankind.
      That does also not mean we can't or won't evolve beyond physical violence to sort our differences trough open debate via. the academic style, as so many of us already do.
      I know it may not seem like it now, but I wouldn't put it past humanity, and I am not quite as jaded to think otherwise.

      +Nicolas Reali When you watch something truly amazing, and you feel that sense of wonder, you're more likely to want to share it than to ridicule others.
      That is the sense of wonder that science brings; a true knowledge about ourselves, and the reality we live in.

      +Nicolas Reali my comment posted last year had almost 100 likes and many many replies. Shame the 2 new earth creationists came along trolling about how the earth is flat and no photo of a round earth exists and even if it did they would call it doctored. Soooooo I deleted my comment. It was great while it lasted. Despite, I still have hope that the future of mankind includes such great feats as space travel and a cure for cancer.
      And I still truly believe "We are only looking at what one day our children may touch."

  • @woodenslave
    @woodenslave 11 лет назад +22

    Let us all bow our heads in a moment of silence for the less unfortunate dwellers of the M82 galaxy.
    If we had know earlier that in all the solar systems of the M82 galaxy were going to vanish in a blink of an eye, we could have helped and sent aid to them or at least the refugees from the event.
    Communications, as of right now, are down and are only open through time and light. That time and light are shown to us as smoke signal were to the Native Americans.
    We were too late so save anything.
    All we can do now, is watch in horror as the remains of all the inhabitants are dissolved into ash, smoke, fire , and death.
    Let us work together to resolve the misfortune of others.

    • @Argoon1981
      @Argoon1981 11 лет назад +2

      Matheus Adorni Dardenne If there was a SOS call is was certainly fake, M82 is 12 millions years from us and even if theres was a supernova there that killed all the inhabitants on the planets near it and on a incredible radius around it, then we are 12 million years late to do anything about it. And if you have to think of anything think that we are also on the same path and until we humans find a way to get of this planet and even of this solar system them we are screwed, because when our sun starts is path to supernova (grow in size) all the planets near it including earth will be history.

    • @matheusdardenne
